Hi ladies
I think your weather has ended up here Carole A very frosty and foggy morning. What an awful drive you must have had, and seeing an accident is never a good thing. Glad you got back OK and also managed to achieve your aim of finishing a door. I know what that’s like as I’ve done loads in the past in other houses that we’ve lived in. Good luck with the last one. As to floor tiles we have them in the hall and kitchen. Slightly textured and scream coloured with flecks in. I use an all purpose cleaner - the bright yellow stuff - diluted in water and it works really well. Get muddy cat prints up a treat and isn’t slippery.
Dipstick/Christine - I’m so sorry you are back on this forum with your lung mets. I know just how scary it is when you get a secondary dx so do PM me if you want to. As to lung mets, as you say, there is a thread on here - which some of us bone mets ladies go in and out of as well - which is really supportive so I’m sure you will get help and advice from them. There are so many of us on here with secondaries that you won’t be in a lonely place and, as ever, we’re all here to listen, support and be ranted at Good Luck with Tax and sorry you have this to deal with when it sounds like it wasn’t great the 1st time round. As to Arimidex not working, that can happen but it doesn’t mean there are no other hormone treatments left after you’ve finished with chemo.
Lily - will they ever learn? Guess not!
Hi to everyone else. Luckily nothing bad happened to any of us on Friday 13th. Just a normal quiet day - well, to be honest the 1st quiet day on my own I’ve had in a month, so it was very nice Just all the chores to do
Have a great weekend everyone, let’s hope the sun comes out sooner or later.
Nicky xxx
Lily I am not surprised at your girl students dressing the way they did on a very cold day! Half the time I have to complain to my YD about what she decides to wear, but the trouble is at that age (what age are your students?) it is hard to advise them what to do. She is the same; it doesn’t matter if we are running late she can’t leave the house without make up on.
Lisa enjoy the glasses of wine over the weekend, you did really well to go 5 days without. Hope your icy weather doesn’t stop you from going out over the weekend.
Nicky and Lily thanks for your tips on tile cleaning, I do use an old towel by the door for the dogs but Taz our old boy (11) is a large dog and very powerful, it is difficult to get him to stay still while you wipe him off. He goes out and rolls over on the muddy ground making a silly “dog ecstasy” noise, probably because he’s got itchy skin.
I am fed up : they say things happen in 3’s. Well our toaster has been playing up for a few days and finally decided to dish out hot bread instead of toasted bread (moan no 1), it is only just over a year old! Then our new dishwasher delivered the week before Christmas is playing up, it only seems to rinse things off in cold water regardless of what setting you put it on (moan no 2), then to cap it all off today I put a wash load into our old machine that is sitting out in the unfinished garage, and it seems to be getting stuck whatever programme I put it on so I ended up having to drain off the water manually and getting a machine load of wet (but not clean) washing! Why oh why do these things always happen when Mr P is away??? I’m jinxed, that’s for sure. I’m also fed up with our new products having every language in the manuals EXCEPT English, grrrhhh!!!
Sorry for the moans, some people have more to worry about than my problems.
Hope the weather brightens up for you all, take care Carole xx
Hi,
P have you looked on the internet as people keep telling me, when they have bought secondhand goods they looked the instructions up on the net? Our new integrated dishwasher is annoying me as it does not fit in as much or wash as well as our really old stand alone one did.Victor says it is the programmes as the new one will only use on prog if you have 3 in one tablets. I am not sure that is true but it was on for 3 hours after son tried another setting so not keen to try others after that! I wonder if it is set for a cold feed like washing machines are these days instead of using your hot water out of the tank? I hope your run of breakages is at the end now. The students I mentioned are 14 or 15. A thought, can’t you use a translator online for your instruction booklets? My washing machine used to stick if you moved the programmer round or stopped it mid cycle. Try using something simple like a rinse and spin or just spin afterwards to se if it gets back in step. Good luck.
Nicky, I agree I have scrapped my car three days now and fed up already of the colder weather but no fog over here. What are you plans now you have the house to yourself again?
Lisa I always copy my post as I know you are out there hiding waiting to catch me out!!! What are you up to this weekend?
Well I popped in to our local town early this morning so I could dash around withour queuing. I wanted to buy baby a St Christopher for his christening so both boys have the same pressy to keep. Apparently they don’t exist any more! Well to be exact in all the jewellers in our town there were 8 to choose from unless I went to argos, which I didn’t want to do. Out of those there were 2 I liked and both were a lot more than they should realistically have been. Still I have what I wanted now and can rest easy. One shop said no madam we don’t keep any but we can show your our brochure and order one in within a week. Then he said I’m afraid we have no prices either as they are closed today but I could tell you on monday!!! I thought I was hearing things, buy jewellery from a brochure with no prices. I said that, unfortunately is too little information to buy anything!and left. I got a few bargains in BHS that have rows of clothes that have been reduced loads of times and many were £5. Strangely ( as I told Victor when I got home as he eyed my mountain of bags suspiciously) a pile of travel brochures leapt into my bag as I walked past. ED said exactly the same thing happened to me as I walked past one too! I amd euse I picked up one entitled premier holidays as that is bound to make him curious He has also very foolishly agreed to me arranging a surprise break for his 60th in the summer. He he he Victor completely forgot to say no passports
Night

Morning ladies - or ‘night ladies’ as it will be when you read this
P - I hate it when machinery goes wrong, grrr. And it is right to moan as all in all they cause such a pain in the butt when they do go wrong. We normally have things go in 3’s as well so I hope they are all done and you can get them fixed or understood quickly. The most annoying one is the washing machine though as you can’t really do the job any other way. I’ll now have flashbacks about the emptying of not clean clothes that I’ve had to do on many an occasion. Hope you don’t have to do it for too long
Lily - you little bargain hunter I’ve also been searching a few sales and actually picked up some bargains at Boden - who are normally way too expensive. Plus I got my ‘proper’ walking boots and some other boots - both at half price and both just what I was after. Job done
How odd that you can’t get a St Christopher anymore - or not easily. I guess it’s not the trend or the style anymore? My elder brother has one and wears his every day. When is the christening? I haven’t come up with a song to use as I couldn’t think of any. Have you sorted it now? Good luck with the brochures and booking a lovely surprise for Victor - hope it’s something he likes though LOL
As to me, now the house is quiet, I should do some decorating but I need to get a bit more enthusiastic before I start. OH is travelling quite a bit in Feb so I may have a go then when I’ve got nothing else to do. Or maybe I’ll have a job by then, who knows? We did a lovely walk yesterday afternoon and were both pleasantly tired out after it. So a relaxing night in, watching what we wanted to watch, eating what we wanted to eat - bliss Don’t get me wrong, we do miss both our D’s when they are away but also enjoy being back to just the 2 of us after 20 odd years of childrearing/teenage/young adult years!
Hope everyone had a good weekend and that next week isn’t too grotty weatherwise.

Hi All
The Onc has put me on Tax again as he said it did a good job first time round, although I thought I remebered something about it usually being a different one. I will see what he says when I see him. On 23rd am having a nuclear body scan again and then waiting for Tax date. Just recently been in a lot of lung pain too so am on blood thinning inj in stomache till I have a scan tomorrow to see if there is a blood clot in lung.
Sadly I lost both my old dogs over the last couple of years but last April have got two black rescue greyhounds, one is six (Owen) and Sinni (4). Not my name choice !!!. They are the laziest dogs so great esp now.
Nicky thanks for your input x
Where did that weekend go??? I haven’t even done anything and yet it has been and gone.
Lily, thanks for your tips, yes I did look to try and find English instructions but our machines seem to have unique reference numbers which only apply in France, Germany, Netherlands and Poland! I did find a very similar one on the net so that was relatively useful. Anyway I have a man coming here tomorrow and it will probably be something very simple that I could have sorted out myself – isn’t it always the way. The washing machine and the toaster are definitely DED!I know what it’s like when all those travel brochures seem to fall into your bag, I’m sure Victor will be convinced. How strange that St Christopher necklaces aren’t readily available these days – we bought our son one many years ago.
Dipstick the worse thing about starting Tax again is that you know what it does to you, but I hope this time around it is a bit kinder, maybe they can reduce the dose a bit to make it more tolerable.
Nicky you and I can compare notes with decorating it seems, but perhaps you’ll have an excuse by way of a job offer.
I thought you might like my new profile pic – our ginger chicken follows me around the field like a lost sheep she is so food motivated she is like a dog! I’ve managed to clean most of the windows today as I bought a new sponge/window scraper which seems to do the trick – I’ll see what the windows look like tomorrow when the sun comes out.
Hello to Val (1), Lisa, Bev and everyone else who pop in from time to time
Hi Girls, I blinked and weekend flew by for me too Peacock and I haven’t been doing much. I enjoyed the programme midwifes on BB TV tonight. Any of you watch it?
It was frosty here nearly all day and the cold spell is to linger for a few days for most of us I see.
I haven’t much news that is why a low profile. Seeing my Oncologist at end of month. Next week it is my Zolidronate infusion for my old bones. St Christopher’s… I am sure I have seen them for sale in the South West in Devon…any contacts there Lily?
Nicky glad to see you are doing a spot of retail therapy. I managed to buy a beautiful brand new dressy velvet jacket from Marie Curie shop plus a long velvet/silk skirt from Hobbs…total spend…£20… I love the shops here in Edin as many of the residents are affluent…except me!
Love to you all, Val
PS not feeling 100%. Mentally I am good but when I go a walk etc I tire very easily with lots of aches and pains…want to do stuff but body not good…hoping Oncologist can help out.
Hi,
Val I watched that prog tonight too and enjoyed it. I have it on series link so sky records it as victor was not nearly so keen!I thought it was very cold today even with the heating belting out.I hope your treatment next week goes smoothly and helps with the bone pain. I read that the week before the next one is due, it can be more uncomfortable, not sure if that happens to you. Brilliant to get bargains and help such a good cause at the same time I hope your onc can give you some extra help too without making you too sleepy to do things you want from drugs. You need to make something, to have a project going, what have you been meaning to do and not got round to?
P - yes weekends are like that grrrr.Hope the bloke fixes the machine and loved the hen story.
Chris I think it depends why they think it recurred. I cannot remember your first dx sorry but have in my mind that you were all having chemo first to shrink lumps before surgery? In that case they can actually see the tumours shrinking and get a much better insight into its activity and what kicks it in the nuts!I did not realise you had lung pain, that sounds horrible and injections too yuk but if they do the trick then worth giving it a go. We lost our dog too and have a young pup of the same breed. Thats the part of pets I find hard but such love from the 2 new ones I am sure. Do you have some support from the hospital or BCN because the hospices usually have a lot to offer too and macmillan if you need some help or someone to talk to about anything.Thinking of you x.
Nicky the vicar decided it had to be a hymn after I spent ages thinking of a modern tune (can you feel the love tonight from lion king by elton). So it is ‘bring me joy in your heart in the morning’ as the girls used to sing it at sunday school and little chap sings it at school too.We had a practice in the car singing the chorus ‘sing hosanna’ as loud as we could, hilarious. I wanted to get the boys the same present to keep from nanna and pop and was surprised that there were so few and not many jewellery shops to go in either. All internet these days. It is quite a trendy one in an unusual shape and has the modern twist of a plane, train, car, etc on the back to wear facing the other way if you wish.Victor and I ought to do more things like walks together. He is currently building the window seat, which is the last thing to be done in the extension so otherwise occupied.
Lisa you are clearly lurking out in cyber space to get me, hope you had a nice weekend.
I have a horrible tummy bug and have spent rather more time than I would wish in the bog! At least it is not sick too this time but so urgent that I may have to take a sicky tomorrow. That will be the first since I went back after treatment I think. I couldn’t go to footy or eat anything as even drinking squash is proving difficult.Feel very weary and hope it is improved tomorrow and not too many dashes in the dark tonight.
Take care
Lily x
Poor you Lily, nothing worse, well you know what I mean, I had it for about 4 days over xmas, this it was excess food and drink only plus side was I lost a couple of pounds.
Val, hope oncologist can help ease some of your pain, remember you need to be out and about to find me a nice scottish wee man!!!
Nicky, decorating, oh you got me excited now!!!
Peacock, hope the weather is a bit better and thanks enjoyed the wine.
Lily, I like the premier holiday idea, go for it, a wee break he said, could be anywhere!
Well this lack of drink, although have had a small number of glasses Sat and sun, and diet is making me feel bit livlier. I’ve taken Harry for a wash, paid for wash lol, but did come back and hoover him and clean the inside, tidied my bedroom but a proper one, it was a mess, but tackled those shelves inside wardrobe which contain all my make up and crap, now everything in nice neat boxes and bags, changed all bits in bathroom to cheery lime, made food for weekend and lunches so all organised and washed for england. Albeit I have decided jogging to wii fit aint for me, dog went to hide under table must of been my puffing lol!!!
Arrggh those weekends are far too short! Busy week again and roll on weigh in as need to loose it fast, hospital on 17th Feb and op on 28th Feb xx
oh my god it’s freezing and feeling tad out of sorts, dunno prob just tired, achy arms and crampy sort of feeling in fingers, prob working too much as done a few hours tonight. Ha damn that wii fit, probably not used to exercising.
Hi,
well woke up to tummy trouble again and wasn’t sure I’d even make it to work so called in sick. I planned a long lie in, slow bath and then daytime tv to try to take my mind off not eating. However I have to phone in, if sick, before 7 am and then had to let pup out. Managed a long laze in the bath, which was lovely. Then the telephone calls started from everyone to see how I was, several times each! Now I love to hear from them all but not so much fun when you have to take the phone to the bathroom with you!! Made soem progress today and managed to eat a tiny bit but I think the dehydration has triggered a headache and very shivery so think I will take a second day off or will be miserable at work. Also everyone will tell me off for coming back to soon and giving it to them. YD had a home visit from the midwife and she is concerned as bp up, swelling and high protein count in sample. Pre eclampsia runs in our family and I had it each time, but to a lesser degree each pregnancy. They have taken a lot of blood to test urgently and she gets the call tomorrow. I have told her to expect to go in and stay but we are still hoping for the best. Home birth has gone out of the window and she is showing as 44 weeks now with 3 weeks to go! I will be very pleased when this little chap is here safe and hopefully very soon. Will keep you posted.
Lisa I will check my weight but disappointing if it goes straight back up when I manage to eat again properly. You have been busy with jobs Thats extra calories used up too. Re hols I am going to look for some short break companies so I can do it all in one go. Anyone used any of these firms as I am not sure who to try? Yes I am cold too, thanks for the bump
Lily x
Freezing here as well, brrrrrr. Lovely to look at when everything is sparkly and sunny but takes your breath away (literally) when you go outside.
Poor you Lily (V3) - bloody bugs. If anything this cold spell might knock a few of them out. Although the days off work should be nice they’re no fun or good whatsoever if you can’t move away from the bathroom! Hope you are on the mend soon. And also that YD doesn’t get the dreaded pre-eclampsia. I was so ill with it with D No1 so I know how much anxiety it can cause. At least she’s close to the birth date whereas I went in at 10 weeks to go - not much fun at all. I haven’t use any of the short breaks companies, we tend to book independently, however if you look at the BA sale (which is on till 24th) they may have some good deals and are often cheaper than some of the other ‘cheaper’ places if you see what I mean. They also can sort the transfers out so it is all booked and dealt with by one company. Plus they fly to pretty much all the European cities every day so there’s more choice.
Lisa - you’re doing really well - loads of energy as well so it can’t all be bad Good luck with the weigh in this week, fingers crossed all your hard efforts are paying off.
Hi Val (No 1) sorry you are feeling full of aches and pains. As you say, hope your one can sort it out - especially after your recent op, I expect you’d hoped that would all be gone by now - or at least a lot better. Warm hugs to you, you must be even colder than the rest of us
Hi to everyone else as well, hope everything is going well for you.
Nicky xx
Lisa and Lily, sorry to hear you are both under the weather – I suppose it is the time of year for all the bugs to fly about. Lily you need to get your bug out of the way so you can be on top form for helping out with the baby and birth (are you going to stay with her?), it sounds like we will have news very soon of the new birth.
Lisa also hope you are feeling better today and the shivers have gone?
Yesterday was very cold here but bright, although today it hasn’t been as cold and it has been grey and dismal. I think we have rain for the next few days.
I had to take our old dog to the vets this morning, he couldn’t stand on his legs or walk about and was in obvious discomfort when you tried to touch him. As he is some 32 kg of dog I was unable to lift him so called a couple of friends to help. We had to shuffle him onto a quilt and carry him like a hammock, he was distressed and yelping. When we got to the vet’s I went in to get the vet to come and look at him in the car, so he scooped him up and carried him onto his table. I don’t particularly like this vet, I just find him a bit uncaring but when needs must I didn’t have much choice. Anyway to cut down the story a bit, Taz ended up having 2 injections and the vet confirmed he has arthritis in his knees and hips. Fortunately these injections seemed to do the trick and by the time we got back home with him he could stand and walk. I’ve got anti-inflammatory pills to give him for 2 weeks, I can see that being a problem as even though he’s a big tough dog, he hates taking pills (especially ones big enough for horses). I’ll cut the pills up and try to disguise them in cheese, or crush them up with an egg, that worked before the last time he needed pills.
So that’s about it for my day, I feel quite fatigued (and it’s not bed time yet).
hi all, early post for me so I can go and snuggle up on the sofa, soooo cold and still a bit fuzzy and dizzy (what’s new) hoping its just a mix of things and nothing sinister, mind Lily, think it’s catching, spent the last hour in the loo with stomach pains and scared to move, maybe a 1/2 pound lighter would help though… lol.
Lily, hope you feel a bit better tomorrow and hope daugthers bloods come back okay and he comes along shortly, you will be so excited, albeit a bit nervous right now. I havent used any package companies like Nicky I tend to book all the bits seperately, I love doing it and looking for places to stay, jeleous right now lol!
Nicky, it is sooooo cold here, must be even colder for you Val. How’s the decorating plans? any ideas?
Peacock, poor dog, so glad the pills worked though, why do dogs never want to take pills, mine is the same too… Hope you get some rest.
Hi,
P - I can’t see what your new pic is, is it the poorly chap? My heart was in my mouth as I thought you were going to say it was the one way walk! So I personally was quite relieved he got to come home again. Try rolling the pills in something like marmite or jam as they pick the scent up and avoid them. Good luck!I have to be ok or I won’t be able to visit bub when he arrives!Going back to your doggy, can you give them the joint tablets that people have to help? I was told animals respond very well to homeopathic tablets and they are very cheap for a big tub. Just an idea to think about.
Nicky I can join you in enjoying the sparkly frost but only until tonight as tomorrow it will be the dreaded scraping of the car due to sparkly stuff . Its strange how many people have pre eclampsia seeing as they still say it is unusual. It runs in our family, in fact MD is the first one to avoid it. I was ordered to stay in hospital and not move from the bed and given valium so I don’t remember anything of that time. They say the tests have come back ok despite her having a very high protein reading of 3 points I think she said. They have sent off full kidney and liver function tests so I guess if they come back ok we should feel better. She thinks she is back on for a home birth but I disagree and think it is maybe a little more likely, but feel they will just keep worrying unless some of her symptoms vanish, which is not likely. Her bp started at 50 so she has a lot of room for it to zoom before it reaches numbers they worry about. Thank you for the BA tip off, I was on expedia tonight and 3 days in Turin was £2330 each!! for b & b only so we won’t be going there!
LISA!!! You are hereforth banned from using the s(inister) word!! Last time I checked feeling cold was not a symptom of BC!! You need to start sorting out plans for when you go in. Who has Robbie, pjs packed, books to read, maybe a kindle would be easier to hold? Then planning things to do when back out and all done Chin up, all of them ha ha.
Well hooray tummy bug seems to have gone even though it left me with the sniffs and a sore throat I can’t decide if I am hot or cold either. Had a lazy day in bed and then did a bit of work as tomorrow is very busy at school and a late night meeting too. My alarm better be on extra loud as I would have missed it today. Pup has enjoyed snuggling on the blanket and seems to have got every toy it owns to drop at my feet in the hope I will play throw and return. She is in my good books after going out on her own for the last few days and then running straight back so I didn’t have to go out in the garden, shiny or not Nick it was freezing;)
Well happy car scraping everyone
Lily x
No car scraping today - we’ve got Carole’s weather! All wet and misty Can’t be bothered to go out walking in this.
Sorry I missed that you’d been feeling under the weather (see the connection?) Lisa. Hope both you and Lily perk up soon. And, as Mum No 2 has said - I can’t remember the link between colds and BC - but do remind me LOL
Decorating is just an idea ha ha, I’m not that committed yet but maybe after OH goes off on his second business trip in Feb. The 1st one I’ll use to get completely bored so I’m ready to do something during the second one! I’ll only do the cloakroom or something easy, with no furniture to move as I’ll have no-one to help me. But I may just get on and do it if you keep nagging me, missy!
P - I also thought the vet bit wasn’t going to have a happy ending - thank good ness it did! My poor old cat from many years ago had arthritis and it’s so much more difficult to get a cat to take a pill! They did help her loads though - but were expensive as she was on them from about 10 years old - and she lived to 17!!!
Well, our news is that luckily OH’s job has just turned into a permanent role, so that’s a big sigh of relief! He (and we) had hoped it might happen but, going on what had not happened back in October we weren’t holding our breaths until the contract was signed sealed and delivered! Which it has been - so big cheers all round He was going on these business trips anyway but it may mean he has a few more during the year so I’d better get used to decorating more! Or even get a job myself to keep me busy - don’t worry I am trying, there’s just not that much around.
Hope everyone else is doing OK.
Nicky xx
I am pleased to report that our old boy Taz is considerably better this morning, he is up and about walking again and having a good old sniff at all the tree stumps in the field. He enjoyed his tablet which I crushed up and mixed with a few of his biscuits and an egg - woof, it was gone!
The photo is of him, I’ll try to find a better one.
Have a good day all xxx
PS it is my birthday today - another year older - is it time to start going backwards with age???
Me again, I’m back, can you believe it, my birthday and I am snuggled up in bed, watching TV, and writing to you? Mr P is back around midnight tonight, YD spent most of the afternoon in her bedroom rather than spending time with me so today has been just like any other day. I did receive 2 bunches of lovely flowers via interflora from son and my lovely nephew, who never forgets my birthday. Tomorrow though hopefully I will be having a special day and I did have lots of Skype calls today with both the UK children, my sister and my wonderful Mum.
Nicky great news for you and OH’s job, you must be relieved and well done to him as it hasn’t really been that long has it? Perhaps he can take the strain of you remaining a lady of leisure for a little while longer. I know what you mean about decorating around furniture, we have that problem too as well as Ikea kitchen boxes and Ikea wardrobe boxes all over the place, gloss painting the 2 internal doors is about as much as I can do for now.
Lily good news that the initial tests for YD were ok, I suppose it’s a case of wait and see if she will be able to have a home birth. Don’t forget “one born every minute” is on again tonight.
Lisa, did you go to this week’s weigh in? Hope it was sliding down the scale after all your hard work.
We still have problems with the water pressure, ended up with a lukewarm shower today so don’t know what that is all about, the plumber was supposed to be coming to put a valve on the mains water but he didn’t turn up, so tomorrow I think I will be off to the launderette as I have so much washing to do, even with just the 2 of us for 2 weeks there is still the beds and the towels as well as general washing.
Hope you can see Taz better in the new picture, you might even be able to see the bald patch on his leg where the vet had to inject, he’s a chow chow so full of fluff. Love Carole xx
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR CAROLE HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HIP HIP HORRAY XXXXXX
So glad i popped in early otherwise I would have missed your birthday, sorry it wasnt too exxciting but glad Mr P back later and hope he brings you a nice pressie back. Glad pooch is okay, he looks lovely and so happy he’s a bit brighter today bless him.
Hope you have found something nice to watch on tv xxx
Nicky, CONGRATULATIONS xxxx very pleased for your hubby and you, im sure you wont get too bored lol!!
Lily, glad you are a bit better and hope daughter gets what she wants but as long as all are safe and healthy which is the main thing. Back to work, I bet you hardly sleep tonight.
Soz for twine yesterday it was just a wierd dizzy fuzzy head that i keep getting and worrying about such a big op and how overweight and unfit I am, lost another 2.5lb but that’s still only 6lb so im sure they wont be too happy but I am okay about it but had been soooo good and last time I lost 5lb in first two weeks each week so was hoping for similar, but shouldnt complaint. So busy at work have a trainee to help but also trying to train her and show boss what he needs to do and wants a plan for who’s doing what when I’m away…
anyhow off for cereal bar and wee cuppa tea, boy do I fancy wine chocolate and nuts. Get one day off a week on Saturday when off with girls to preston for my birthday, cant diet that day but defo save up during the week for it.
