Lisa, Yes the rain arrived late last night and it is very wet today and is to remain like this. Boo hoo. Still the garden needs another good soak.Your weekend of fun sounded good. There certainly seemed a lot on to keep everyone interested. You will need another holiday after all that.
Carol, I hope you are feeling okay. I am not sure how long you said you woud be in but I know you may not want to post on here for obvious reasons. How is Mr P?
Lily hope you are having a ball and that you are getting a lot of siteseeing done. never been to Rome but have been to Lake Garda, Tuscany and Venice more that a few times. Hope the weather is good and you managed to recharge your batteries and forget all about the things that are happening at home and let them get on with it. Chill chill chill.
Not got everyone back on here since all the changes. I am spending less and less time on here myself and not answering newbies questions like I used to do because everything is so hard to find compared to before. I even go on to threads that say they have a new post but they have not. Such a waste of precious time. Goodness knows how the site is going to keep new people looking in when there are fewer and fewer of us âoldiesâ posting and sharing our experiences of treatments etc.
Not sure what up to today except want to do a big shope as not been to shops fo food for ages as OH is doing it all in the wee shop nearby AND he is doing all the cooking. Most of it good but some f it experimentalâŠlike the meal I had last night that I wasnât sure if it was chinese or indian inspired, a bit of a mix.
I spoke to my ED last night for ages which was lovely. Took the phone up to my bed and had a great chat and a catch up. I havenât spoken to her since my YD and her man went to visit them for a holiday. Have you seen the news about Legionaire disease where a man had now died and 15 are now critical? I do not live in the area but it is quite nearby and quite a worry especially for those with an underlying health problem like the man who died who was in his 50s. Scary. They are still looking for the source they say but water towers are usually to blame.
Hope you are all okay otherwise. Enjoy your day, Love V
Hi Val, know exactly what you mean, site driving me insane, canât find a lot of my posts to others and kees telling me I have one new message and I donât!!!
Hope everyone else doing okay - hugs xxx
Morning allâŠthread very quiet. I am off to get my bloods done shortly ready for the ward tomorrow for treatment and round 6 of chemo pills to collect. Not raining which is good but very overcast. Legs pealing from overdoing it in the sunâŠseems like a lifetime ago the weather was so lovely. Bird feeders to fill today and I wonder what mischief i can get up to. Need to get out of the house again and have some fun. Hope you are okay Lisa. Feels like I am alone of a raft! Love Val
Hi there ladies, what a lot to catch up on so Iâm sorry if I miss anything and anyone out. I back up the last few comments about this site! I have been back a few days now but, what with feeling a bit yucky the first day, and still cooing with the time difference, I couldnât face trying this site, so Iâm sorry if Iâve been away even longer than I was away - if that makes sense?
So, here goes:
P, hoping you are due for release soon and you have made great friends with your fellow pumpers, or at least got their details for Lisa lol âGoodâ news about your new dx, if you get what I mean, seems very treatable and less of a worry than IBC. Please donât even think about my original dx and how that all didnât go to plan, Iâm still of the opinion there are other factors that have not been found or tested yet that determine what eventually happens with your BC. Anyway, Val and I are still here to show that all is not lost
Val, glad you had a lovely time when you were away, and have commented on the other thread about your lack of tablets feeling I guess the sun isnât shining with you anymore way up in Scotland, it certainly isnât down here
Lisa, the festival sounds fab. I remember years ago going to the Tall Ships as they came into Liverpool, where a lot of my family are, and it was very special. However, thatâs a big port, whereas your town sounds so small, so it mat have been even more spectacular. Howâs things with you? Hoping you are doing well, and great news about the sleeve. I thought youâd got into a fight when you said youâd been punched twice but, when re-reading it I realise what you mean and had to smile
Lily, hope Rome is all that you and Victor hoped for. I love it there, as Iâve said, and I expect the weather was great. Hoping, when you get back thereâs no more measly things going around and your little boys are better.
Well, we did go away. Back to Jamaica! We had a fantastic, relaxing time, sun every day, beach, cocktails great food - what more could you wish for? Weâd read on the internet before that storms and rain were forecast very day and certainly hadnât expected it to be so gorgeous, but it was - sorry, but you should know, ha ha. Well, back to earth with a bump, as usual. Weather lousy, OH and I not feeling great the day after we got back and then me not sleeping well at all, up until today when it all has righted itself. So, Iâm back again for quite a while but with a lot of one off trips to do. Some little treats, like a night away, or other more pressing things like evacuating YD from Paris lol. So, lovely to catch up again and, when this site gets even easier, or back to ânormalâ maybe, like Val, I can join in other threads again, grrrrrr.
Nicky xx
good evening all, All the threads are quite quiet. Been for my infusion and collected chemo pills to start again tomorrow. Met a dear friend I have not seen for some time in the ward. We greeted each other like long lost sisters and it was really great to sit side by side as we have known each other from the ward where we first met 10 years ago. She was having herceptin and I was lying on the day bed next to her and we were reading the same (not wel known) book. Instant friendship started and she invited me along to her book group. Through her I met lots of lovely ladies I would probably not have met. We spent the whole time catching up. I think the ânewbiesâ on the ward were surprised that we knew each other for so long on the ward!
Made a wonderful cake this morningâŠthis is for Lily when she reads itâŠstill on her holsâŠit was a moist apple cake made with sour cream and ground almonds and seved it with light whipped creamâŠyummy. New recipe book from an Italian cookâŠa future favourite recipe for us I think.
My lovely husband made our meal again tonight. Salmon with new potatos from Cornwall followed by strawberries and clotted cream! As I have lost a few pounds since 3 weeks ago I am allowed to have 2 puds in one day! Well thatâs my excuse anyway. Brother in law and his lady coming to visit tomorrow and he has requested we pay a visit to our Curry cafe as he loves the food there and he doesnât live at this side of the country.
Only sad thing going on is that Mum is unwell and is on a drip and was on antibiotics and they have changed them today and she is also been put on steroids. Dad said she didnât speak to him when he visited her this afternoon but she knew he was there. Dad lives on his own so with a wife ill and me having treatment today he has a lot on his plate. Ok for husband and I as we have each other to share the problems life brings. So no booze tonight for me ( not drinking often anyway right now) just incase dad needs me to go over or to see Mum if things change overnight. As they say âLifeâs a bitch and then you dieâ. Not very nice but know you will understand I am not being fickle. Have a good wekkend whatever you are up to. Lisa Found a new mann yet. aye?
Evening all, Iâm back xxxx
Please, please ladies, letâs keep this thread going! I would miss you all so much if we didnât
chat as regularly, especially as I am now going through a new ordeal with the
Big C.
Thanks for all your encouraging messages â as you probably
gather I am now back home momentarily, back into my usual hospital on Tuesday
for lymph scan, ultrasound and on Weds âtheâ operation. Iâve seen the Anaesthetist today, heâs not
sure if it is going to be a mastectomy or lumpectomy but either way the actual
op is only around an hour, with a mx the recovery is a little bit more and 5
days in hospital instead of 48 hours.
It was a difficult week for me this week, having to sit in
on discussions (in French) about using the insulin pump, problems and
everything that goes with it. I do feel
that using this pump will be life enhancing once theyâve got the dosage correct
for me, itâs a bit up and down at the moment and the aim is to have the blood
sugar levels stable (ish). I had 4 men
doing the course with me, but they were all a laugh and made lots of jokes, so
sometimes there was a bit of light relief.
Nights have been busy with nurses
coming in 3 times each night to take blood samples (finger pricks), but as I
said the first night was a full blood test and a nasal swab at 5 a.m.!!! Not what you expect at that time of the
night/morning. Consequently I am tired
and really looking forward to a good sleep in my own bed.
Sorry to hear about the problems with Legionnaireâs Val, I
havenât yet seen the news so will be looking up the BBC online to catch
up. Please, please take extra care if
you are visiting hospitals, medical centres etc. Curry sounds nice.
Lisa I love the Red Arrows, Iâve seen them a few times and am always amazed at their displays.
Lily, Lisa, Nicky hope all is ok with you three ladies â canât
wait to hear all about Lilyâs adventure â when are you off to Venice Lisa?

Hi, well talk about come down to earth with a bump! The weather and the plane. I have had such a lovely few days with fantastic hot weather. Our hotel was in an ideal spot, being right in the middle of many historic sights so on the whole it was a 10 min stroll to most and enabled us to see a lot in a short space of time. The first day we took the metro 5 stops to our furtherest spot, which was St Peters square and the Basilica. This was Victorâs number one spot to visit for the architecture. It was very busy but there was a Papal audience the next day which you had to book, so thats why we shot over there straight after we arrived. I was happy to cool under a column while he dashed around enjoying the chance to photograph somewhere he had always wanted to visit. Had a peek at Vatican City and bought a few gifts for those friends back home who I knew would treasure a gift from there. I always buy a fridge magnet and a christmas tree decoration back from every holiday. I bought a really sweet silver nativity scene which is inside a green velvet bell that opens like a ring box so it can go on the tree. My magnet is a vespa Next day we went to the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Circus Maximus where the gladiators raced but sadly mostly gone now. Then we visited the Trevi fountain in the day and the night later on. That was my favourite place and I threw my coin over my shoulder to make sure I go back on day. I thought it was beautiful and despite it being quite busy I could have sat there for hours as the blue water made the hot day so peaceful. We were supposed to be on a tour that afternoon but they forgot us!!! I was not amused and had a big moan at the local company involved so they sent us on a Rome by night tour instead and said we can have a refund too, which was a hefty price. This took some threats of complaints to the big firm we booked through to arrange with reception helping on the italian speaking parts! Anyway we enjoyed the tour, which took us back to the Trevi fountain and Colesseum which were all lit up and looking beautiful at night. We also sampled the yummy ice creams and visite Piazza Navona and travelled round the city walls and over the roman bridges so gave us a good overall view of the city. The guide was a rather eccentric man who stressed being on time at each stop we made. We had not realised how serious he was until he insisted we drove off without a family of 4 when they were 10 minutes late. Seriously, he just drove off and left them! As you can imagine we were all on time, well early back after that! Next day we packed and left our cases in the hotel and visited Villa Borgese, which was a huge park area, villa and a zoo, although we didnât go in there. We also went to the Spanish steps and saw more other buildings, fountains and sights than I can write down or remember their names. There are historic sights round every corner. Slipped in some excellent pizza, pasta and shopping inbetween. The empty bag was now completely full. I brought the little chaps back Pinnochio wooden puppets where you pull the string and their arms and legs fly out and snow globes of the famous buildings. The girls have Italian blouse/long tops and son has a t shirt and fake Ray Ban glasses! I bought a fab black and white handbag. Coming home the plane was delayed as Gatwick had closed a runway and so our landing slot got cancelled and then we lost the Rome one so we were 90 minutes late leaving. To cheer us up the pilot invited anyone to come and say hello and look at the cockpit. We were right in the front row so I trotted in and what a great experience. They shook my hand and chatted and insisted I sat in the co pilotâs seat to get the feel of the plane! I said wow this is amazing I just donât want to be disillusioned by spotting a bag of jelly sweets in the pocket like I have in my car for when i get bored. He laughed and waved his bag of jellies! We took off after 25 minutes taxiing out to the runway and he must have been putting his foot down, so to speak as we were not as late as expected. We had to fly through a storm and had a very bumpy flight, which always happens to me and I get travel sick very easily yuk. Coming down there were cross winds and he was having to try to constantly balance the plane so we came down with a bang which made me jump out of my skin and shout argghh and embarass myself! So back home to rain and more rain forecast and the heating is back on
My feet will take a week to recover but it was such an amazing place to visit and I felt very safe despite the warnings given about crime. P I hope this distracts you rather than makes you feel worse and hope you get home soon, be brave x. Val I heard about the Legionaires in Scotland, such a horrible condition and a worry as you say. Son caught pneumonia one July, both lungs packed solid and the consultant said if it had been him or me we would have been in intensive care and lucky to make it but he was sitting up and he said he has a very strong constitution fortunately. I hope they find out more very soon to keep people safe. You have made me very envious and I wish Victor could cook but alas he is hopeless because he hates it and so never attempts it. Lisa glad to see you back, was it the weekend with all the bands? Who did you see if it was? Hope your jewellery session goes well x Lily
Hi,well the system took me to way back in our thread and so sorry as I have only answered posts from further back this week and I was rather surprised but pleasantly to find another lot to read! Nicky the holiday sounds fab just sorry to hear you were grotty for a day or two on your return. Are you sure you werenât trying to get out of the washing mountain Babies are fine thank you and smiler has just got his first 2 teeth before his first birthday which is coming up this month. He is attempting to walk but its still a bit too freestyle with a lot of landings! Baby seems to be out of the worry time so we hope he missed the rubella. He is a hair grabber and gets you just at the roots at the back of the neck yowwy. He looks like he will be quite blond unlike the rest of us and grey eyes. Smiler has blue eyes too but we are all brown/green so we must all be carrying the gene. Val good luck with the next dose, let it do its worst to the c and be kind to you. How lovely to meet your friend again like that and the book club sounds like something you will enjoy a lot. The newer ladies will be heartened to hear about âold timersâ (you know what I mean here
)and make them feel much more confident and hopeful. P steady on buddy, you canât shake us off that easily!!! You couldnât shut me up for start ha ha and the others arenât much better
I have made a mental note to never be caught in a french hospital if they do nose picking in the early mornings lol it has to be at least afternoon for me to cope with ha ha take care x x x x
My post last night seemed to cross with everyone, but glad
to see us all back.
Lily your trip to Rome sounds wonderful, all the historical
sights would please me too so Victor planned it well. I canât believe Smiler is almost a year,
maybe those teeth cutting can explain some of his grizzles recently and itâs
good to hear that baby is out of worry now.
Yes make sure if you are ever in a public French hospital, have a nice
clean nose in the early hours ha ha!
Nicky, Jamaica you lucky girl
Lisa, youâve been busy again and out and about which is good - sorry that my men on my course were all married or old!
Hi to Val hope you are coping well with your latest round of chemo, do you know how long you will need to be on it?
A quiet day here for us, I caught up with all the soaps, did a bit of tidying up, watched Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part I and then Part II in 3D, which was weird having to wear the glasses all through the film but the effects were good and we enjoyed it in the comfort of our lounge, some wine and nibbles.
I think Iâm 95% sure that I will ask my surgeon to do a mx - as long as he can assure me of no more cancer in that breast and also along with immediate recon - donât want to be boob less again. What would you ladies do??? Err on the side of caution, prevent it coming back or keep whatâs yours and take your chances? Dilemma or what.
Hope everyone is ok, will pop in tomorrow before off to hospital on Tuesday.xxx
Hi everyone, Had a pleasant but busy weekend.
Mum ill. On drip. On antibiotics. May have CDiff again. Giving Dad day off as he is stressed now.
Chemo ok but spent too much time on the loo in the night! Thank good ness it is near my bedroom.
Hope all ok. Hope you make the right decision for you Peacock. All the best. Val
Arrghhh my post from the other night has totally dissappeared⊠this site is driving me wild!!
Well first Lily you have made me very excited about my italy trip, and Rome is defo going to be my next years aim, it sounds dreamy, I think we are going to give the tour guided excursions a miss apart from Murano and Burano as we like to do things at our own pace the guides sound a bit manic lol!!
Peacock, i think it has to be a totally personal decision for me, I opted for 2nd masectomy and first because as I may know (!!!) I am a panicer and with my BCN we both said that my quality of live would always improve if I reduced my risk further, so having a lumpectomy didnt change my mortality rate but it reduced the risk of reoccurrance and left me feeling more pisitive - if you do defo go for immedicate recon, after all you have gone through would be a shame not to have two boobs, but then thereâs the issue of rads if you need them? Good luck, you are being soooo brave!!
Well can you believe, cant find post so not sure if said, I had won tickets to Coldplay and hadnt picked up my email so missed two complimentiary hospitatily tickets for two at their opening gig in Coventry :_((
This weekend I have almost had a hernia, never been away with my Aunts and thier cousin but by we had more dramas than soft mick and I have laughed so much done me the world of good and my uncle paid for the lot he is so soft but Westlife were amazing and im not a big fan but it they were awsome and to be at the last ever gig they do at MEN arena was amazing and its huge and was a total sell out! All the dramas to follow, I cant write them now at work as I will be tittering too much!!!
XXXXX
Lisa, you watch out, youâll be caught by someone looking over your shoulder Best keep the giggles till later and spill the beans to us when youâre back home. Yes, it is still driving us all wild, aye, especially when you post something and it gets lost in cyber space. What a pain in the butt, to say the least, that you missed the Coldplay gig, I bet you were gutted. However is sounds like Westlife were a good second substitute. Hope you are well, and looking forward to your next hols.
Val, poor Mum, I saw on another thread that she has problems, which also causes confusion with your Dad,. How difficult it must be for you. Hoping the chemo doesnât keep you near the loo and you get out and about a bit, if this stupid weather improves!
Carole, I really donât know what decision I would take but, as you know what it is like to have a mastectomy, I think you can judge better than us that havenât. Youâll know the impact it will have, recovery times etc and, if it gives you peace of mind you should go with what your head is telling you. When has the big decision got to be made? And how soon after that is treatment ie surgery starting? I canât remember now if you will have chemo or not, hopefully not.
Lily, hope the weekend wasnât too full of wet weather for you and that you are still basking in the Rome sun - well, in your mind at least. All the places you went to brought back lots of memories, except the maximus circus, which weâve never got out to see so far. Maybe it means another trip there lol.
No news from soggy Hampshire, canât believe how wet it is this morning. At least the weekend wasnât so bad and I eventually got the end of the holiday washing dried. Luckily a lot of it doesnât need ironing otherwise Iâd be spending this week doing that. Moggy is still holding on, and has improved since her steroid injection, happily purring alongside me right now, so thatâs nice.
Well TTFN
Nicky xx
Oh Lisa, you must be gutted missing the tickets for Coldplay!!
Nicky I will be going into hospital tomorrow afternoon and will need to make the decision then as op on Weds. I think for me it is to reduce the risk of a recurrence in the same breast, as if it did come back I would then have to have a mx anyway.
Not sure what having an immediate recon is all about, like Lisa says I may need rads if any lymphâs are affected as well. He said not chemo this time, but Iâm confused as I thought that if any nodes were affected then it was automatically onto chemo???
So you see I still have questions to ask, and me being me I need the answers NOW
Glad to hear Moggy is recovering nicely Nicky, since I came back from hospital on Friday evening my two moggies wonât get off my lap - still, I love them so itâs nice as I think they missed me.
Carole, Not sure if I am repeating myself but I had LD Flap with immediate reconstruction and that went well for me. I have a scar on my back where they used the muscle but it is hidden by my bra and I was happy with the result and how it looks now. I had no choice at the time. My tumour was 5.5cm and they needed the skin from my back to fil the space where my tumour was. No problems at all now. For a long time I had a funny sensation if Iiscratched my new boob I could feel the sensation on my back and not on the front
Sorry not commenting on anyones elses posts as am heading out to visit Mum who they think may nave developed C Diff. She is on antibiotics, they then changed them and have taken swabs. When she had it befoe it nearly killed her. So dad is having a rest today and i am going in but wil have to be careful with serious hand washing on going in and going out of her room. I have not seen her for several days and whwn I saw her last we had a great old chat as the royal barge was on TV and she recognised the main royals. Speak later. Love Val Yhanks Nicky for your nore about Mum.
Wish me luck ladies, I might pop in during the next week if I can get WiFi
Hope you are all surviving the awful weather, take care ladies
Love Carole xxxx
Carole, thinking of you and looking forward to hearing from you again when your operation is over. Have you made a decsion yet about which op you are going for? I promise you we will all be thinking about you n Wednesday. Much love my dear.
Went to see my Mum who has been really unwell. gave Dad an afternoon off as he has been going in to see Mum over the weekend and she had not been taliking to him as she was so unwell. She looked so much better than I thought she would be and was sitting up in a recliner and although she is not great she looked a while lot better than I thought she would. She asked after my daughters, and asked if my OH was coming back to collect me. I explained that he was at home. I popped in to see my Dad afterwards and he had been sitting in the garden reading and had made up 3 hanging baskets in the afternoon. he was so pleased to hear that Mum was improving. She has run out of PJs so I will be sewing on name tags laterâŠor tomorrow morning. Strange thing is when I used to buy Mum expensive PJs they used to go missing. Now that I am buying them form Primark I have not had to take in any new ones for months and months! I purdchased 6 pairs in Primark months ago for such an occasion so I donât even need to go shopping for some more PJs. I wonder where th expensive PJs went toâŠmakes you think, EH? Love to all, val
Hmmm just re read my post so for Lisaâs sake - BRCA is a totally different ball game and the mx is done to remove the risk. Hope I did not alarm you!!! Keep laughing lily x
Hi buddies, sorry internet went yesterday or I would have popped in before now. P wishing you the very best as you go into hospital for your op. I am not sure if you will read this before it is done, so ignore me if too late! From what I have read you cannot eliminate the risk by having an mx although they always offer this on the second time on the same boob. Some cancers are widespread throughout and not in one small area. If in several areas they have to take the whole lot as not enough structure left after taking them out, same if very large lump. Rads is the most effective treatment there is on the boob itself but obviously only covers the exact area targeted whereas chemo travels almost everywhere if it has moved from the boob. I read that the bc can always come back in that area but after an mx it attaches to the chest wall rather than in breast tissue but if it is going to come back it still can. So thats what I read but they may have different views now or even in France oor between oncs. This was from the top USA onc/doc. Also it depends on the type of bc as lobular is slightly more likely to go to the other side and has been found to be affected more by alcohol (just research I read). best thing is to ask your expert who is looking at your results. personally I would always fight for a lumpectomy if the outcome was judged the same but thats just me. Hugs for hopefully a trouble free op and home soon x . Val sorry to hear about mum and I hope she is fighting the infection now. My mum had cdiff too which caused her stroke, she caught it when having her hysterectomy at our local private hospital. Please be vigilant with your hand washing as it is a tricky bug and maybe take advice on when you really should stay away for your own safety. You should be heading to your low white count, so be very careful. I hope it turns out to be something less dangerous and that she starts fighting it x. Lisa unbelievable you missed the tickets you twit!!! I would have loved it too. Oh what a shame More dramas than soft mick hmmmm is that another one of your sayings? I have no idea who old mick is but would like to hear about the dramas and laughs when you get home
Italy oh what romeos, I was well and truely chatted up by the driver on the way home who thought I was French and was chatting away to me and telling me to chuck Victor and stay with him ha ha. The old dog still has it
Victor said it was my fault for showing off and answering him when he started so he thought I was far better than I am! Victor gave him a big tip so maybe he thought he was selling me lol. Tell us the dramas! nick still waiting to hear about your posh holiday too??? Glad moggy is ticking over, long may she last. Whats happening with the girls now? Well I watched the England game, essential as it is the only thing any boy will be talking about at school tomorrow so helps me keep my street cred with them
Sports day is rained off so no need to have a blue face tomorrow after all
Hugs to everyone Lily xxxx
Another grey, miserable day, what has happened to June? And the rest of the so called Spring and Summer? The only summer I can remember being quite wet and cold was 2008, and some of us know how horrible that was for other reasons as well!
Carole, good luck with all the hospital discussions, prep and actual operation. Speedy recovery and if you can, give us an update. Wishing also for clear margins and no lymph involvement to give you the best possible prognosis
Val, hoping Mum is feeling better soon and, as Lily has said, look after yourself if visiting, you will still have a compromised immune system, even if not on one of the IV chemos. However, Iâm sure I donât need to remind you of that! Keep well yourself.
Lily, well, you little flirt Chatting up the Italian driver, but in French, non? Bet you still wish you were there, not just because of your infatuated fan LOL I canât believe itâs only been one week since we got back and the sun and warmth are a distance memory already. The tan is fading rapidly too
(BTW I limit myself to smilies and winks on here as the tablet version of the new site doesnât show all the other little emoticons that the full version does.) The holiday was fab, beautiful resort, very small, great food and really friendly staff who got to know you, even if we were only there a week. The 2 hour drive (not the 90 minute one, as per the booking) from airport to hotel was hair raising to say the least. Over the middle of the island, which meant up and down mountains. And, did we really need to be told about the minibus that fell in the river? I donât think it helped I can tell you! After that it was really relaxing, just what OH needed as he has been fairly stressed by work, and the travel, since starting in December. Just needed it to be a bit longer, but he couldnât get away for a longer break, still, it was lovely.
As to the girls. ED still hasnât done her 2nd year exams, they are the latest uni to do them. These start on Friday and finish Monday, with one on Saturday, how strange. Iâm sure she will do better than she thinks she will, she is a hard worker and always does do well. YD is still in Paris, getting as wet there as here I think. She is waiting for her results, as we are, but doesnât know when they get them other than in June. I expect we are more nervous than she is. We then have to go out in a few weeks to move her stuff out of her flat, although she is remaining out there for a few more weeks to enjoy Bastille Day staying at a different apartment, then sheâs home for a bit before going back again to work for a bit. Watch this space as I have no idea what sheâs really up to after that!
Nicky xx
Well Lily you did worry me with that comment lol! I do sometimes think about after having masectomy how do they ever check if comes back in chest wall!?!
But I digress⊠hereâs the basic run down from the weekend of fun/hassle whateverâŠ
My aunts and their cousin range from 52 - 62 but they are young at heart and funny and trendy (put me to shameâŠ) I made them all little goodie bags with westlife bits and pieces and treats for on the train which they loved. We all like a few drinks apart from my aunt that doesnt drink and she doesnt approve too much either but boy can she eat⊠so all was good until we got there, we all were like women posseseed in Primarmi - so we had to trot back on Sunday to return stuff that didnt fit.
The apartments looked lovely and right next door to arndale centre and were newly opnened two months ago. Ideally they are for 3 people or even 4 but 5 is tight but hey how 5 star ÂŁ250 which my lovely uncle paid so checked in, fully fitted kitchen rooms, bathrobes, roses, and fully stocked fridge (which prices attached) My aunty hid them all in case we drank all ours and set of on thereâs. Wee co-op next door tooâŠ
Went to Westlife, i like them but not major fan but we were about 4/5 rows from front and were amazing, they even went overhead right to the back to see everyone and they were really emotional as last ever gig at MEN Arena. Well my uncle paid a company ÂŁ100 per ticket to get us seats at the front, they were numbered 11-15 but on closer inspection 4 were row g and one was row j, we thought it must be an error as he ordered 5 seated together - oh no, it was a woman that had come alone, after lots of arguing they asked us to move, we asked as the woman was alone and the seat was only 3 rows back would the woman be willing to take the seat rather than split a family of 5 up and make one sit alone - she wouldnt she was arund 60 and on her own, the whole of the row behind was hissing at her and my aunty may have had a few choice words so one of my autnies sat behind a few rows on her own:_(
So comes the fun, after a fab time we jsut returned home, thought aunt a cuppa and rest of us a nice glass one wine and get our nibbles out etc. PJs and dressing gowns on, kettle wouldnt work, coooker had gone off, as had toaster and microwave and heating in living room/kitchen not working too⊠ouch even worse fridge had gone off lol! Well as they take ÂŁ100 depost in case break anything we wanted to let them know, 24 hour reception lovely lovely bloke (not nice like that) came up and said it had tripped, he tried everything for a hour until 1.30am and couldnt fix it and have no out of hours contractors, he left with our kettle to boil it for us and we had a little wine, some went to bed but some stayed up as he said he would be back at 2.30am to rectify, it was gettign chilly but hey was amusing bless him he had 3 of my aunts all telling him which switch to press etc. He came back at 2.30am and couple of us stayed up (my aunt who doesnt drink was plying me with drink as she doesnt sleep, she wanted me to stay up for horus with her and my other aunt wakes up at 4.30am)⊠he came back to say couldnt do anything and had no apartments to move us to, we wer polite and said okay but to be honest we booked 5 star accommodation and had no kitchen facilities or heating in living/dining area lol! I found it amusing anyhowâŠ
So at 2.45am the others had gone to bed , we had a double bed and a single which was for me and two aunts sharing a sofa bed, I sat up with them and we pulled out the sofa bed and my aunt got into it and it collapsed in the middle and she was stuck in it with the base up in the air, i was hysterical, i litterally was on my knees we had to pull her out and then she said its okay she could sleep in it, the bit where your feet would be was two foot in the air and when my other aunt tried to get in it all four legs where tehir head were was bouncing in air and on floor, at this point everyone was up cos we were laughing so hard what a sight (maybe it was one of those you had to be there), so at 3am we had to phone him again, we could see what had happened the legs underneath were broke as if at some point someone had jumped on them but at 8 weeks old surprising⊠so up he trotted again, he was distraught and at 3.20am he said what can I do, we said nothing really but we needed you to know⊠so my aunt had the sofa to sit on and i moved between two chairs sitting upright and lying on rug with cover over me but bearing in mind there was no heating either, my other aunt got up at 4.30am as she was in my bed and then I got in so we bed swapped so we all got 2 hours sleep⊠can you believe it, so next morning all our breakie supplies were no good as the still couldnt fix.
To top it all my aunt went to pack and opened the 7ft wardrobe and it fell off - i literally wet myself, they were aruging amongst the staff who would come and deal with us ⊠i mean i could go away with my girlfriends and dont have that much trouble.
So they told us management would contact us as really ÂŁ250 for 5 star apartments self catering and we ended up with broken sofa, nowhere for two people to sleep, no heating, broken wardrobe and no self catering facilities - im expecting a full refund for my uncle, letter been sent by email as didnt contact usâŠ
You would think that was an end to it - oh no⊠few wines on way back much to my auntys disgust⊠she was first up approaching carlisle for our change to whitehaven, we got all our bags down and the train we were on was 15 carriages long and ours was the very last, my aunt pressed the open door button 3 times and nothing happened, the train moved slightly which we assume was the front and we thought it was moving up slightly onto the platform⊠oh no⊠it wasnt⊠it didnt let us off⊠we knocked on the door next to us which was the conductors to complain and he said he would get the driver to stop at Lockerbie which is around 10mins on train. We were distraught⊠albeit it hysterical with laughter as espcially the drink couldnt be blamed as aunt who doesnt drink was at the front. The conductor said he would sort it, get the train to stop at Lockerbie, we could catch the train due in back to Carlisle and still catch our home train, he didnt come back out so we kncocked again and he said it was all sorted. Got off at Lockerbie with all our bags, he popped out and said we needed to get up the 50 stairs and across the platforma nd back down, the train was in, we said great thanks for rinigign ahead and getting it to wait for us, he said oh well i did try and ran back in the train, as we unloaded the other train pulled out of lockerbie station⊠Im sorry but could you write this script⊠the conductor on the station was livid as she said she had her radio with her at all times and he hadnt rang to ask her to hold it, she said literally it would have taken 2 minsâŠso we got the next train to stop at lockerbie and get us to carlisle and was told we would have a 2.5hour wait and would get back home at 11.30pm, we kicked off a little but were very nice to the guards at Carlisle as it wasnt their fault - 10 mins later they admitted fault and paid for us a mini bus from carlisle to whitehaven at a cost of well over ÂŁ100 pound to themâŠ
So there you go⊠ha maybe its just us that found it amusing, sorry to bore you⊠catch up tomoz and peacock will be thinkging of you loads. My friend at work has found out her dad has skin cancer last week and her mam breast cancer this week, its crap isnt it and brings back some of the feeligns xxxx
