Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi, yes Lisa I had a special deodorant during rads too, something like rock, does that sound familiar? Anyway O google it and you will find the name, then you just have to find a stockist!! Lisa it sounds like a busy time, annoying at work and worrying about your friend. You have to consider how far you have come since your op too  Keep swimming. P - I hope you don’t feel too bad through these rads, just keep chugging along and you will be in double figures before you know it. Remember rads are singularly the most effective treatment for cancer in the breast itself, more so than chemo I read. The rib problem has not really been resolved as you clealry have a weakness of some kind now. It must have been caused by the rads, the tablets, osteoporosis or a combination of them. Then its when you did a particular action that caused the stress. The tablets are new aren’t they so they are unlikely to be the cause? So if it is rads causing the extra problem, you may have to be more careful than usual, with rads on the other side now. I feel it would be worth trying to find out very quickly whether you would be better of having less rads this time. We have 15 over here unless a more serious/advanced/big area and the lasting effects of rads are well known as is the need to not over treat people. It might be a question to raise, do you need 25 to gain the same % results and are the rads actually causing you a rib problem? If they are, then you need to balance out the advantages and disadvantages of each. I feel it might be worth having the conversation or seeing a rads consultant to get a second opinion. You have been seen by more than one hospital and doctor but you alone see the overall picture and history. Anyway just an idea for you to consider  . Val hope you have plans for some nice days this coming week… Nick sorry to hear you have been funding cars too. Well ED paid for hers but I had a lot of running around and phoning. Today I drove her to work and was shattered after I got back, must have been tense when driving through the random fog patches early this morning. At the gym today a lady was saying she gor olympic tickets on wed and paid Ā£295 to see Usain Bolt and got a seat in a low down row. They had tried and tried the site and then some came on at 6 am one morning and they got them. Quite a price though and they got caught for Ā£75 for a few salads and soft drinks there too, so had a very expensive time. Will finish here Lily x

Well proper catch up tomoz but how good was the closing show - think I cried a few times sap I am but very proud XXX

Me too Lisa, very proud Team GB did so well and I thought the closing ceremony was brill

No special deodorant for me, just French armpits LOL. It appears they don’t have anything that deals with the problem, but I’m not surprised as it seems no shame here for people to have body odour. Not me though, I’m washing several times a day and still feel I am smelly.

off to get the skin biopsy results tomorrow, wish me luck I just pray it is nothing. I don’t think I could handle more bad news at the moment, feeling so tired and worn down.

Weather great, hot warm and sunny and set to get warmer through the week. Typical, I have to keep out of the sun when it is glorious.

Sorry, bit of a ā€œmeā€ post, hope you are all feeling well, especially Val, and enjoying whatever makes you happy at the moment.

Para olympics soon to watch, can’t wait. So pleased with our boys and girls.

Take care xxx

Hiya, apparently cornstarch works, I had rads under arm so tried not to use anything and still now I tend to use aluminium free ones. Very strange I noticed that i still dont really sweat under that arm and the hair doesnt grow back very much. I can remember it well, it’s the journey that exhausts you so take care and plenty of rest. Good luck will be thinking of you. xxx

Nothing much happening here but sooooo buzy and trying to get ready for americans visiting and family reunion with lots of strangers - they joys!!
Hope everyone else doing okay.

p.s. Lily what was our first conversation called, I can find some but not that one, very strange !

Hi, well I enjoyed the closing ceremony very much until I fell asleep! I thought team Gb did briliiantly, especially to move up to 3rd place after being so low earlier on. Ed is going to the paralympics athletics and was surprised to find that for a Ā£20 ticket you got free rail and tube travel free, a real bargain. I think it would be a bit emotional for me but a fab event. Lisa the thread was ā€˜chemo kicking off 20 May - any good buddies.’ Maybe I can see it because I started the post? Yup rads killed my armpit off too! Have fun with your yanks. P you do a me post whenever you want,. the rest of us have and I think its the best way to let some of the anxiety and disappointment out. Sometimes good to just know people understand how you are feeling, c is a lonely place withour buddies. I will not be on here to hear your results but will be with you in spirit and hoping for some well deserved good luck. Hugs and everything crossed for you. Speak soon. Lily x

Hi, just spotted Val that you are having your op this week. Just wanted to wish you well and that it all goes smoothly and especially your own room and an early discharge. With you in spirit too - Lily x

Good luck Val xxx When you off Lily ? x

Hi ladies
The whole of the Olympics was great and I enjoyed the closing ceremony more that the opening one. OH and I watched it live (on tv!) until the flag handover and then went to bed. I caught up with the last part yesterday morning. Felt very sad for Gary Barlow. What on earth are we going to watch now? Having said that all the food programmes are back on, so YD and the rest of us will be hooked on those - not quite the same though, ha ha.
Good luck with the results, P, you definitely don’t need any more bad news, just the good stuff please  As you know, we are all used to having a moan, that’s what the rest of us are here for, a cyber shoulder to cry on, so moan away. You have had a lot to deal with and it must be so difficult with Mr P not there all the time. If you are feeling tired from rads then you will be feeling sorry for yourself, and too right! We are here for you.
Val, hoping you have been given a definite date for your op and there’s no further delays, I’m sure you will want to get it out of the way and on the road to recovery. Let us know what the plan is. Hoping you are not too uncomfortable right now though and using crutches isn’t as frustrating as I think it must be.
Lisa, enjoy the out of towners coming to visit! When do they descend? Hope you are saving some of your precious time for YOU and having some fun, you are always so busy for everyone else.
Lily, hope the summer break is being good for you, I know my teacher friend loves the summer hols, but doesn’t enjoy the first day of term feeling - especially, as a primary school teacher, she knows exactly who is in her class for next year!
Not much happening in Nickyland, just a long list of To-Do’s that I keep putting off but do need to work my way through. One shock yesterday was trying to get insurance for a trip OH and I are doing soon, to USA. Obviously all the underwriters have now clamped down for some reason and I can’t get it as ā€˜cheaply’ as before - and that was never cheap. Very very frustrating for us secondary ladies, grrrrrr.
Nicky xx

Hiya
Nicky have you tried insurewith, i know some other people who recommended it, i notice every in my case the one i usually use wouldnt touch me for usa :frowning:

Rellies coming Thur and off tomorrow to see friend in hospital so all go, but hey who cares , its almost the weekend lol xxxx

Love to everyone else xxx

Hi Lisa
I tried them along with many others! Unfortunately they weren’t the cheapest, or maybe wouldn’t even quote - I can’t remember as I phoned so many. I have managed to get insurance but it is ouch expensive - probably as much as the holiday. It’s a shame I won’t be able to afford to go to USA again - so this will be my farewell tour :frowning: Better make it good then  Take care, hope your friend is doing OK on the recovery side. Great to see you so positive that it’s nearly the weekend - I always count that as Thursday not the early hours of Wednesday LOL
Hi to everyone else, hoping all is as well as can be expected. Val - how’s the new kindle going? They are so easy to carry around aren’t they. Are the new, touch screen ones good? I’ve got one of the small ones, without keyboard that I swapped with my YD for the one with the keyboard. I pop it in my handbag whenever I have some waiting around to do.
Nicky xxx

Yes I bought it in JL and it is the touch screen one and I LOVE it. I have always been a real book person and I will continue to buy new paper books but this wil be great for holidays and hospital stays. I have just finished my first book on my Kindle. It was a best seller and was a free book direct from kindle and I have added about 6 other books.
I collect cookery books in real form and will continue to do so. My OH got a free trial of the Telegraph for 2 weeks which gets up dated every day and is of good value. But personally I prefer to scan the real papers pages and read the book reviews and do the crypic crosswords on the real ones so am not sure about the kindle way. But my OH likes it and he likes the screen and how you can increase the type size. I like how this new one helps if you want to check out the meaning of a word in a book. You just touch and hold on the screen and the dictionary gets the extract on the page immediately. So all in all I am hooked. I ordered a leather cover for it frim Kinde but my friend has since told me you can get it cheaper from another sourse. But JL has them at HUGE prices.
The book I finished was called ā€œThe one you loveā€ and is an easy read by very well written thriller that has you guessing throughout.
Love to you all, V

Hi ladies,

Very quiet on here hope everyone is having a super time and too busy to post

My visit to the dermatologist yesterday didn’t result in any bad news, the biopsies, swabs, blood test and anything else all showed negative - nice to hear that word for a change. They’re still baffled, they don’t know what it is or what caused it so are just treating it, ie. the nurse comes in every other day to clean it, scrape away the ā€œfebrineā€ (haven’t worked out what this is yet), put some duoderm gel on it, and redress it. They all said it must be covered whereas I would think if it’s left uncovered that would be better, it would scab over and drop off when the new skin comes. Still they are the experts.

Very tired, really didn’t want to get out of bed today as I didn’t sleep too well last night, but I did and I’ve achieved quite a lot today, general housework, washing and even managed to put a coat of paint on the garage/utility room floor. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight.

I hope all is well with everyone TTFN xxxxx

Hi All, sorry for absence, busy as, well that Lily must be on her holibobs.

I love my kindle, it isnt touch screen but doesnt have key board - just a word of caution, i done fre telepgrah for dad on hols, didnt think aobut cancelling it and got charged:-{
Well mate doing amazing despite nhs, but hopefully home in few days, been down to see her. She’s going to be confied to bed or chair or wheelchaire for 12 weeks, no standing so downstairs living needs a bit or arranging…

Well early to bed for me, had late night last night when armerican relatives arrived, never been here so lots of drinka dn touring today, off to shipley tomorrow to meet 75 distant relatives, but looking forward to 2 canadians been in touch with…

Speak when back on Sunday xxx

Hi Lisa, only us two for the moment

Glad to hear your friend is recovering well from her long op, she is lucky to have your support as I’m sure you’ll be there for her when she needs you.

What a pain to get charged for the kindle paper, hope Val and Nicky who have kindles remember to make cancellations if they sign up.

Very very hot here, 40 degrees today, really too hot to do anything it is very tiring. I want some rain for the plants, just a little bit would be nice.

Nothing going on here, so no news from me, have done 11 days of radiotherapy now, can’t wait for it to finish it’s such a drag!!!

Keep well all xxx

Bone scan was ok, clear of hotspots but since March I’m showing another new fracture! I don’t think I have a rib that hasn’t or isn’t broken now . So results good as far as I’m concerned.

Just think a trip to my GP is in order to instigate some bone strengthening tablets or something. I dread to think how my ribs would manage if I were ever involved in some trauma or accident, if they break living a normal life.

Too hot here, but sweaty can’t be avoided all the time everyone I see is the same - over 40 degrees at the weekend.

All for now, come back soon DBM it’s too quiet without you lol.

Hi Ladies - well Lisa and Carole  Everyone else isn’t here at the moment so it is a bit quiet. I’m also guilty that I haven’t posted but not for proper reasons like Val and Lily. Just this site still. Does anyone else still get the first ever posting (from Lily) on here when they want to add something ie ā€˜Reply’? If I haven’t looged on before I hit the reply button I get that every time, and that’s on the pc, the ipad is still much worse, logging you off (or so it seems) once you’ve posted so I often just give up. The shame is that when I used to log on every morning this thread used to be halfway down the second page, now I can easily find it on the front page (even taking into account hat the first page is longer now) so that means fewer and fewer ladies are posting. Moan over.
Thank goodness your scan was OK, Carole, another worry over with. But, as you say, it’s still a bit worrying that you do have a constant problem with your ribs. I hope some medication can sort it out for you. Maybe there are other factors like low vitamin or mineral levels which mean calcium is not being absorbed from your diet as much as it should? I don’t envy you the heat at the moment. 40 degrees all the time must be very tiring, especailly as you are still having rads - or have you finished now? Can’t quite remember how many you had to have and how far along with that you are.
Hi Lisa - I expect you are busy with your rellies at the moment. I hope the sun is shining up North so they have a lovely time and good memories of their visit. A rainy, cold UK summer is not one to remember fondly.
Talking of the weather it has really played havoc with my veg beds, same as the UK farmers but on a smaller scale! Potatoes not much good, other veg not grown well at all. Just have to wait to see how many courgettes I get and tomatoes - that’s if they ripen this year. Otherwise it’s green tomato chutney time again.
Nothing much happening with me, still looking for jobs but it’s a very quiet time of the year, especially coming up to the Bank Holiday. I will try a bit harder after the school holidays are over and companies know what they need. I’ve had ebnough time off now so I’m quite happy to get busier with the whole job hunting business. Also need to see what YD is doing - Paris or UK? I hate this being up in the air, I just need to know what she will be doing to know what I’ll be doing over the next year. Dealing with her problems in Paris or dealing with them at home. Whilst she was at uni I was handling all her money transactions transferring rent from Uk to Paris, adding money to her Euro card etc and I definitely don’t want to be doing that any more. She’ll just have to get on with it herself if she chooses to go back - as opposed to still being in education when I felt I had to help out as much as possible. ED doesn’t present any problems on that score - back to uni for her final year and already thinking of what she does afterwards - then again she is the oldest and needs to get straight into a job if she wants to move out of home. All change!

Nicky xx

Hi to Nicky and those who are with us still, yes it is quiet but great that some of us are off to other lands or counties and enjoying life. Sorry to hear you are still having problems Nicky, I find the only time it goes back to the first page is after I’ve deleted cookies & temp files, then I have to log on again. I always bookmark my last posting so it brings me back to this page most of the time. I can see people will get really fed up with this, it was working ok so again we ask why did it change??? There does seem to be fewer posts, so BCC ADMIN if you read this please can you sort this problem out?
I’m off to see my GP tomorrow to talk about something to help my bones, other than calcium vit/d which obviously isn’t working. I’m due another blood test for quite a lot of checks, diabetes and so on, usually about 9 vials of blood but I’m dreading it as the last time was so painful and difficult. However the nurse doing the nuclear injection for the bone scan took her time and managed to find a vein which didn’t cause me any pain so it just goes to show, it must depend on who does it. I’m halfway through rads now and have a nice red bronze boob. It’s ok, just tiring mainly because of the travel and the heat here.
Sorry to hear that you’ve had problems with your veggies this year, what a strange summer you’ve had in the UK. Green tomato chutney sounds delicious but what a shame if you don’t get any for your summer salads.

I can imagine your uncertainty with YD, it must be a worry. Hope that something makes the decision soon, ie jobs or YD! And for you, I’m sure something will come up that will suit, it’s hard to believe that August is nearly over and September will soon begin. In the next few months we have to set up our YD with a bank account and start to look for accommodation etc. not something I’m looking forward to, but it will have to be done.

All for now, up early for rads tomorrow and then appointments in the afternoon, I can feel exhaustion creeping up.

Hi buddies, just a quick post to say I am back after a crazy week in Corfu. It was very hot although i am not sure it was the 45 degrees they said it was as I was able to sunbathe, even if I had to leap in the pool every half an hour! We are all very tanned and hoping it will not peel quickly. Diet went out the window but the heat and swimming seems to have limited the damage and I have a week to be good and get some lbs moving. Our hols were shattered by Victor being taken ill and getting taken to hospital in an ambulance for chest pains. The short story is that he was declared ok to travel, hasn’t had a heart attack and was advised to see a cardiologist. In Corfu he had a chest x ray on arrival and was driven for a ct scan within 20 mins of the doc asking for one, as a precaution. This included a drive by ambulance to another town and hospital. We arrived, straight in scan and straight back in ambulance and back again. I ordered him to the gp today as he wants to say it is muscle pain and ignore it. So off for more tests but good old nhs can’t manage an ecg until early sep and that is just at our docs!Amazing crfu instant ct scan, Uk 2 weeks for an ecg!!I just feel sad that those great facilities are clearly not being used for their locals who deserve it too. P so glad skin results ok but sorry to hear about the rib again. Lisa enjoy the relatives. Nick insurance is unbelievable. I went covered for anything except bc but it was Ā£60 to add it so not bad really. Val hugs as I am sure you will be on the mend after your op now, so hope you are managing ok.love brown Lily x

Welcome back BROWN Lily, so glad you had a nice holiday and hope you feel well rested after your break. What a shock for you to have Victor poorly, it just goes to show how quickly things can happen, I mean scans, xrays etc. Hope that he does visit the cardiologist and gets checked out back in blighty, just to be safe.

Yesterday our temperature was 44 degree, it’s continuing hot for at least the next 5 days which means watering plants, sweating or should I say dripping and generally uncomfortable to sleep.

Day 15 of rads today so just 10 more to go. Boob is very red and i’ve developed a rash under the boob on the tummy which i’m not sure is just a heat rash or something to do with rads. I’m using almond oil as the dr suggests. I’ve found out I will be on tamoxifen when the rads finish as it helps the bones rather than any of the others.

As for my bones, I saw my GP yesterday who has booked me in for a drip called Alasta or Aulasta, it is basically zoledronic acid, I’ve been trying to do a search on here as I think many of the bone mets ladies are on something like that. It will be one infusion a year. I’m also off to get some bloods done tomorrow, after my last experience I’m not looking forward to this, so hope it goes ok. If my Vit D level is low my Dr will also give me some supplements for this.

Anyway, not much news from me, I saw Val posted on FB she has had her op so wish her well in recovering.

Love from a very hot and sweaty, but not brown, Carole xx
