Darling buddies from May - moving on

Hi Lisa, will take a peek at the site in a few weeks as thinking of christmas thingys possibly. If you have done slimming world, then you know exactly what you can and cannoe eat. Get to it or the next thing you will be in a panic if we meet!!!Do not panic. I saw York was flooded so is that a problem? Hi to all buddies love Lily x

Hi - I’m back
We got back (from sunny California, sorry) on Weds lunchtime so I was catching up with jetlag and boring things yesterday although did get to read all the posts, but too tired to add anything. However up bright and breezy today so here goes (sorry if I forget anything but I won’t be able to go back to the beginning of the ‘new’ posts):
Carole - all of that sounds awful - poor you. It does sound a bit of a coincidence that it’s in the same area as the rads were. Is it worth getting a second opinion, if you can? Or is it not worth the hassle? Hoping Mr P got home OK and you can have some TLC - both you and your YD.
Val - the little pill sounds like it’s perked you up, hope it continues. And that all goes well when you go back on the chemo. It sounds like things are heading in the right direction after your op, it still isn’t that long ago is it?
Lily - wow, slimmer of the month, well done you. It must make you feel very pleased with yourself, particularly as I remember when you started that the foods you could and couldn’t have didn’t sound your cup of tea! It’s probably easier now you are in a routine and also back at work, it’s always the holidays that set us off on the wrong path. Hope Victor is still being checked up on by the doctors and something is sorted to get him feeling back to his normal self, and you off his back ha ha.
Lisa - you are always soooo busy, take a breath! I think you may need to remind your boss that you are not SuperWoman and can’t do it all. However if you get to keep your assistant maybe you can give her (him?) some of the workload? Good luck with the jewellery, a busy time coming up? BTW, well done with the fund raising.
As to meeting up, I would love to do it but I’m not sure the exact dates you had in mind. I think it was the last week in October? However I can’t make either of the two weekends of that week, my family (OH, brother and Dad!) birthdays at one end and MIL’s the other. Mid week would be better but I’m not sure how Lisa is fixed? Fill me in with any ideas and let’s see if we can do it
I would give you a ‘trip report’ but I think you might all hate me LOL. Just to say it was lovely and something we had wanted to do last year for OH’s 50th but couldn’t as he wasn’t working at the time so couldn’t afford it. Luckily he is working now so we can pay it all back - ouch. Shame he’s working today though as it’s our wedding anniversary and I think the first day ever he’s had to work :frowning: But we will have a nice evening tonight and enjoy the weekend instead - catching up with Dallas - our guilty viewing secret from our ‘courting’ days  Plus of course Strictly which we both got addicted to last year.
Have a great weekend, it’s nice to be back.
Nicky xx

Hi, welcome back Nicky and yes I am jealous. Keep yourself wrapped up as you will notice the temperature difference. We have had our heating on for a week or so now, in the morning and evenings. Did you stay in one hotel or travel around? I think I can bear to hear the exciting places  so go for it. Mid week is fine for me, how about you Lisa? Have a great weekend everyone love Lily x

Hi all, well what mid week are you thinking about - im prob free, owt to see you lot lol.
Nicky glad you are back.
Well Im am sooooo on my high horse, might be overreacting but raging.
youtube.com/watch?v=sC7zfgCXQFs&feature=player_embedded
watch the above link, i was in tears but with madness, im so for saint johns and first aid but am i over reacting, how DARE they use cancer as there advert play, basciaclly saying well you can go through cancer but still need first aid, yez, but how dare you use cancer process as a selling point…

Will come back when calmer…

Hi Ladies

Yes Nicky, little green monster here too but so glad you had a great time, welcome back and please fill us in with all the details, did you bump into anyone famous?

Val you’ve got to stop losing weight, enough is enough lol. Seriously, you must build you body up ready for the next onslaught of chemo, apart from the tiredness does it usually affect you?

Lily, how are you doing have you got anything planned for the weekend?

Lisa, phew you are so busy but you’re right, Cancer should not be advertised in this way.

I had 2 appointments yesterday, left boob with the hole is clean, draining well and not infected, but the nurse comes in everyday to poke a bit of gauze into it, after cleaning it. It was caused by radiotherapy they confirmed yesterday. The right boob - the one with the longstanding rash - has now progressed to a vaseline treatment but is almost healed, although I don’t think the skin will ever look right. We’ll see, but this is the reconstructed one so I will be eventually having a nipple tatoo which might hide the scarring/blemish up.

Mr P arrived back ok, we’ve been busy with appointments since so hopefully tomorrow a quiet day and if the weather is ok (been raining a lot for 3 days) we might get out to do some gardening.

Anyway ladies have a good weekend, whatever you are doing xxx

Peacock, I am glad that at last your healing is under way and things are improving with your wounds. I haven’t spoken to my daughter but I did wonder if she saw the abducted girls as she walked down the main streets in Bordeaux! maybe they even treid to get a job in her pub!
I am not losing any more weight but Richard is feeding me up best he can with home made soups etc. However today my stomach keeps gurgling and it is most uncomfortable and think it is just me restarting my chemo tablets a few days ago.
My younger daughter had a get-to-gether yesterday to celebrate her 30th birthday and we went along for a couple of hours but the house was getting busy with more freinds arriving so we left them to it. Her hairdresser was meant to come to hightlight her hair the night before but cancelled at the very last minute which was not great. I missed my hairdresser for my overdue haircut on Tuesday as I was stuck in the hospital having my long blood transfusion…may as well grow it dowm to my bum now!
Hope everyone is having a pleasant weeknd and (not) behaving themselves! have a good break form work girls. Love to all, Val

Hi, Lisa I thought it was awful and was particularly unhelpful and thoughtless for those just about to start treatmnent with the patients lined up like that and so depressing looking. I would have been even more scared to go to a chemo ward after that. Mid week would be the start of November, well during the first week as that is half-term. Any good? Although the original plan wa syork and that was terribly flooded recently, did you see it on the news? Carole I too am pleased to hear you sounding more chirpy and that things are at last starting to heal. Hope you get your quiet day  How is your daughter now? Val I hope we can trust you not to ride through the streets naked when your hair gets that long!!! Also hope the gurgling improves. When mine did that they said I probably had thrush through the digestive system (no outwards sign anywhere though) and made me take about 10 thrush tablets in a row, one daily and bingo it went. i think it can also be caused by being bunged up though. Shall I come round with some drain unblocker ha ha  Hope you feel better soon though. Our house is about to get quiet with ED in Turkey and son is off to Eurodisney on one of the free tickets through sky but staying over. I have found Victor a gardener so I am hoping that will make Victor do more managing and less digging and less pains! Puppy is 2 today and an adult really but she is so little she will always be puppy to me. Little chap came shopping and insisted we buy a present. he asked my mum, what do you buy dogs for their birthdays? She said sausages. So we came home with dog sausages and puppy was a very happy little dog. Enjoy Sunday love Lily x

My rant is over, god I was on my soapbox yesterday, not only did it look bad but i think it was aimed at capturing the cancer market to get more hits i.e. 1 in 3 people, shocking use of cancer, argghh!!

Val, oh ive missed a few hair cuts was letting mine grow but cant cope any longer.
Peacock, so glad starting to heal but bad that the rads has caught it and they didnt admit to it x
Lily happy 2nd birthday to pup xx
Nicky, glad your back even though mega jeleous!
Lily anytime that week (if not flooded) is okay with me xxx

Hi, well did any of you watch x factor? I liked the older !! chaps group so I am hoping they get the wild card. I voted ha ha. I have had a really nice day as I got all my marking done and was able to enjoy all the cooking and preparation instead of being in a rush to finish in time. I also won on euromillions. I had been dreaming about the 80 million but won £8.50!! Guess the dream forgot a few zeros! Lisa I will have to get back to you about which days when Victor has sorted out work commitments. He will drive but leave us to it. Nicky can ypu check exact dates too and this is going to happen this time. Carole are you sure you can’t come and Val??? Will get back about that asap. It was a lovely day but the footy was a nightmare, so I was glad son wasn’t there. They were all arguing and there were 3 red cards, meaning 3 players got sent off. Only one from our side but their goaly got sent off. Then another yellow card and 2 penalties. We won but the arguments were terrible. After the match they all started again, even the older men. So I won’t be looking forward to the return match.Hope you all had a more peaceful sunday Lily x

Yeah, Lily let me know potential dates asap and venue so I can check out with work… oh some more zeros would have been good.
I watched x factor, I liked the older group and the older bloke - bit gutted at some of their choices, but always the same.

Hum, calmer weekend lol! Well have a exhibition tomorrow and needed a tree type article, dont ask, so after getting soaked at brothers ended up with some twigs, me and dad went up my road to a barrer area and found ideal tree that would fit in my car (once we had made a base), so sawed it off, too all leaves off and then I went for base, drove back up road to see dad with tree (small mind, just big branches) standing in middle of road next to police van, omg I didnt know what to do, pulled up and got out and he made a slit through gesture, when I got there he knew them from all their visits to hospital and they were just chatting to him, asked what he was doing and had the crack - nearly passed out - highlight of my weekend especially after I had just done a crime survey and said never see police in local area lol!!!
Night all, my plans are at foot for my Alice in Wonderland 40th - pity you are all so far away :frowning:

Hi Alice, well we will all be with you in cyber space for your birthday, remind me of the date? Still waiting for Victor to confirm dates he can escape from the office but will get on to that. I laughed at your story, thought dad was going to get arrested!! The trouble you get your dad into! I am waiting to see if I get a payrise this year. As you know public pay has been kept the same for 3 years but I applied for a promotion to the next level of teaching and await the outcome. Hopefully will hear good news very soon, fingers crossed. Today we ordered some double glazing and I have to say prices are very competitive at the moment so must have been a good month to ask. Most of the house is done but most annoying my bedroom isn’t and it has a huge window and it is aluminium and very old. I have been badgering Victor to do this so I can re-decorate the bedroom. The wallpaper is a bit Laura Ashley and out of date. No doubt we will have a huge debate before we decide on a new colour. My plan is to insist I have to have it pink (I don’t by the way) and then compromise on my 2nd favourite, which will actually be my favourite. Does that make sense? Will keep you posted how the plan goes. Lily x

Ha you should know my birthday, 30th Jan, I think it’s your sons day after? Or am I brain dead. It was very funny my poor dad, today was the hunt for fake mss which doesnt exist where I live, but glad to say all went well and if go ahead this will change the future aspirations of children from 10-16 and their future in our area which is a real problem - can’t wait…
No probs, remind me the week it is so I can double check my diary and try to block some dates/meetings out.
Good luck with the pay rise, the way we work being charitable doesnt result in many pay rises, Im at top of my scale so havent had one for years but gets to me sometimes when I know I go well above and beyond what is expected cos I work for CEO and I know others get paid so much more have no committment and work 9-5!!!
Lily love it, so do tell what is your second choice? Is laura ashley not back in?!? love the vintage type look but havent got it anywhere in my house - dont be tempting me to decorate, no money!!!
Must be twinning posted on same post you did about upcoming 5 year mark, been thinking about it a lot, biut freaked out as 5 yearly marks aint usually been good for me for last 10 odd years, i.e. Graham died 6 years after we met but lot of trouble 5 years, then he died then got cancer 5 years after so bit aprehensive of 5 year mark and being 40?!?

How’s everyone else doing? unusual that Im posting more often. Nicky hope you have recovered from your fab hols, hate it when you dont give us the juice before you go, I like to get exciting - how you arent too jet lagged.
Carole, Val, hope your are doing okay and just trying to chill and take some time out.
Off for some cheese after long work night, nightmares?!?? Hope not xxxx

Hi ladies
Sorry, just a lot of catching up to do since coming back. Hoping everyone is doing OK with abscesses, pay rises, tree hunting and restarting chemo - what a lot to remember and I’m still not quite wide awake enough in the morning to take it all in, was I ever ha ha.
I’m currently back on the job hunting front, with a few more jobs being advertised now we’ve gone past the summer. This may impact whether I can make it or not for our meet up, if I get lucky and start the beginning of November. If we do come up with a suitable date I can only really do one night mid week as I don’t want to leave OH here on his own for too long as he’s not really enjoying his job and the travel gets him down. Coming home to an empty house won’t be much fun for him and he can’t take any time off to come up with me, so I will have to get the train and stay just one night. Keep me up to date with dates that Victor comes up with and I should know soon if I’ve got interviews etc. BTW OH has actually got another job but has to work his 3 month notice, hence the no time off, and this is will be nearer to home so he won’t have the horrible commute anymore.
Ah, yes the 5 year check up. Unfortunately I didn’t get to that one, so didn’t have the worry so to say! Just a lot more to worry about instead, but I hope all goes well and you should try not to think about it too much. I know that’s easy to say, and not to do, but having seen this from the other side of the fence there’s nothing you can do so you should get on and enjoy the moment. Obviously if tablets are stopping next year I suppose there is some anxiety but I’m sure you can talk to your oncs when the time comes? Having said all this I can’t believe that I’m nearly 5 years on from my secondary dx and don’t feel any different than I did 10 years ago when I had my primary dx. Fingers crossed for me when I see my onc next week, but as I’m not having a scan and I don’t feel any different then I don’t think any changes will be made. Believe me this is all very odd to me and I do have to remember I have bone mets half the time and not take my time here for granted.
Well, onto my hols. Sorry Lisa if I don’t give much away beforehand, I guess I’m just suspicious in case I have someone who can identify me on here and know when the house might be empty or what we are planning. We went to California to do our ‘road trip’ down Highway 1 which goes right along the Pacific and has fabulous views. We stayed in San Francisco for 2 nights, doing all the tram rides etc, then 2 nights in the Wine region, a couple of one night stops down Hwy 1 and then into Los Angeles. Lots of driving which poor OH had to do but plenty of stops so we weren’t going all day. Lots (and lots) of great food, plenty of fresh seafood and lots of local wine, which is so far removed from Gallo, Blossom Hill etc you wouldn’t believe. Unfortunately that was the expensive bit, I have no idea why they charge so much when there can’t be any taxes to pay for importing it like we have. Great weather, sat out for lunch every day but chilly at times when we were in the North part but absolutely boiling when we got to LA and Hollywood. Took loads of photos and really had a good time, time that OH needed away from work and travel.
So, keep me up to date with the plans and I hope Carole and Val are doing well as none of us have been on here much recently and Lily and Lisa have been keeping the flow going
Nicky xx

Hi, well mid week is what I need too and I was thinking of one night so that works too. Victor has some business and wants to come along and drive but then go off doing his own thing. What do you think about arriving wed 31 Oct (haloween though) and leave Thurs 1st Nov? I am trying to avoid travelling Friday evening if poss. Assuming we can fix a date, where should we meet? I am in a car so not tied to train routes. We had suggested York but it was terribly flooded so recently, anyone know how it is now? Another option is Nottingham but it looked like a long/expensive journey for you then Lisa. Someone come up with some ideas. I am hoping to visit Newark on the way home if poss to visit someone. That is en route from us to most places. Nicky we will have to see how it goes and although I want you to get a job, I would also love to meet again. Its easier to miss a day of a pre planned trip when working than stall an interview though!I didn’t realise OH was unhappy at work so briliiant he has found somewhere else. Just remind him how long he left you on your own for and leave him some lovely meals in the freezer  Good luck with your appointment and its brilliant that things have gone so well since that second bad day. I think we are sometimes too scared to dare hope that it will go ok in case we jinx ourselves. I have never been as supersticious as I am now.At least Lisa and I won’t have to be jealous of you not having to go to work in the rainy cold weather lol. We will be sympathising with you instead! Good luck and I hope something nice comes up for you. Yes Lisa I do remember your bufday now!!! Brain is hopeless some days. I couldn’t understand what you meant you were looking for ‘a fake mss’. What is THAT? Please speak slowly and clearly when we meet ha ha! Please tell me we won’t have a teeth confession ha ha? We love you just how you are  Not sure on bedroom colour yet, fancied green water silks and heavily patterned wallpaper, a bit decadent. I really need to fall in love with some wallpaper and go from there. Nick the trip sounded wonderful and if the wine was expensive at least you weren’t tempted to trigger your palpatations then. Did you drive over golden gate bridge? I could go to the US every year and still have places I wanted to see. Don’t worry about the appointment! Please give us input on the big meet as I am trying to avoid a blong or difficult journey for either of you if possible. Val and Carole how are you doing. Any chance of joining us? Love Lily x

Hiya, will catch up with all the goss tomorrow, in terms of the date Im okay and one night would be best for me too - I can do York but seems like a bit of a travel for you two potentially. What’s at Newark? I can get there pretty cheap, can get to lots of other places it’s just nottingham that seems expensive… any other ideas, where do you both have to travel from exactly, well any other ideas, what about Derby, Liverpool, leeds, Chester, Stoke on Trent???

Hi
Having eventually looked at a map, and checked train prices, a meeting more central would suit me, however I don’t want it to cost too much for everyone else. The return fare to York would be about £120 and what with the hotel etc it would be quite expensive. I could drive up as far as Derby area but wouldnt want to go much further to go there and back in 2 days. I know that Lisa is coming further but I don’t know what train fares are like. BTW I’m coming up from the top of Hampshire, so quite a long way down to start with. I have had a telephone interview today for a job so I will let you know how I get on. It would be a quick decision I think and so I could let you know what’s happening.
Hi to Val and Carole, hope all is well, although I think you are having some hospital appointments, Val. If so, wishing you good luck and that they don’t keep you waiting around as usual.
Hugs to all
Nicky xx

Hi, Nicky and Lisa I did look at train fares and thats why I wanted you to both check them out. Some were huge amounts more than somewhere that looked about the same distance. I guess some lines charge much higher rates. Also I didn’t want either of you to spend half a day on the train. I have no idea why York comes out so badly and it would be annoying if it was still bad from the floods too. I am going to Newark to visit someone I haven’t seen for ages, so that is after I leave you two.I am completely on the right hand side of the country, travelling from Chelmsford just 40 miles above London so maybe central would be best if better for Nicky too? Lisa can you look on a map and check the fares for you to central areas like Derby, Matlock and see which nice areas you can get to easily by train and we can vote from that. Hope to find a mutually agreable place and then someone can hotel/room hunt. I will start looking online too. Good luck with the interview Nick.
Carole how is the rash and the hole now, hopefully starting to improve day by day. You didn’t tell us, is your daughter any brighter now? I do hope so. Val how is the mmobility going, are you getting better on your crutches yet? I have been out to dinner and eaten a big pie so the diet went out the window today! Looks like salad all week for me :frowning: take care love Lily x

Hello girls, sorry for my absence. Caught up with all your news.
I was at the hospital today to see th Orthopaedic surgeon for my review after 6 weeks. He is very pleased with my progress and says i am mush further on than he thought i would be at this stage. He had 4 medical students in with him and he had talked to them about my case…about my bone cancer and the titanium pn fracturing and how they had to do a complete hip replacement. He had me walking across the room without crutches, standing on each leg while he held on to my forearms and making me try lifting my legs in different ways. We discussed physiotherapy and he had agreed that he will refer me to them to help improve my muscle tone and to aid recovery. My husband asked about the original fracture at the top of the femur but the surgeon said that the bine has been completely replaced by the hip replacement so no fracture at all to cause problems with pain. he did tell me it coud take up to 12 months to get back to a complete recovery but that I was doing well. he will see me agian in 6 months unless I have any problems before that and I have just to phone him. Came out smiling…better than I expected. Now have a big head that I am preogressing fast!
So now almost a 2week break before I go for my bone strengthening infusion, to also pick up my chemo pills again and the same day I get my CT Scan. We are palnning a break away in the caravan next week. perhaps join some firends…perhaps jusy have a break on our own…plans in the making…but not too far away. After the Ct scan we plan to have alonger break in the caravan. Have any f you seen the kind of caravan I have? It is called an ERIBA Troll. Try looking it up, it is quite different to british caravans. Will be interested to hear what you think. Love to all, Val
Peacock are you okay???

Hi Val, good to hear from you and well done for making such good progress. You desrve it as I know it was a difficult time when you had to agree to another op on your hip. Any chance you could caravan down to meet us? Sorry I have not had a look yet but will try to remember. Nicky and Lisa, how would Buxton be? It has a good reputation and it has lots of classical buildings to keep Victor busy. Just one idea and you will need to look at the distances and train journey or car. One hotel kept popping up on the net, called Old hall hotel which is right in the centre but the prices vary according to which site you are on. I have found rooms for £40 going upwards for that date. Anyway please be frank about what you want and other ideas of places if no good. I have looked at so many that I have lost track of where I started looking! Carole how are you???
Sorry just quick tonight love Lily x

Nice to hear from you Val, and your big head. must look at your caravan - will google it.

Lily/Nicky, will look at Buxton, Matlock is lovely been there before too - will have a gander (look) but might not be until Sunday as away at Manchester for Sister Act and Rugby at weekend xxx
