Hi all
I saw my GP yesterday who found it strange that as I’ve been back and forth to the hospital for the last year they hadn’t picked up on this breast lymphoedema earlier - well in fact in April I was given anti inflammatories by my surgeon because it was swollen then. There doesn’t appear to be any type of taping or special compression bra available here in France so my best option is a stretchy support meant for the abdominal area (I still have one after DIEP recon 2 years ago) - this is available on prescription so I’m going to try with the old one first, will cut it down so it fits the bust area better. I was advised to lose weight so diet and exercise started today. I’m having a reflexology session this week to try and help with the lymphatic drainage.
I’m seeing my Oncologist on Monday after my GP arranged a special appointment - neither of us are very happy that I haven’t seen an Onc for 2 years, despite having a second primary cancer a year ago and have now gone 5 years since the first primary cancer.
We’ve got a superb storm going on at the moment, electric just went off for a while (good job battery on laptop was charged up), with fork lightening inside the sheet lightening - I love a storm.
I’m gathering information of my family tree because the Onco Genetic Dr has asked for a family history before I see them on 22 August. It does appear that I had an Aunt who died of either uterine/ovarian/cervical cancer - my Mum isn’t sure which so it might not be much help.
Hi, well crawled into bed at 3am and rather sad that the holiday is over, extremely sad to have a Mount Etna of washing but very excited about the wedding this weekend. It was lovely and very restful holiday, so we are all feeling the benefits. It was my first visit to the Canaries and although I had seen pics, etc I was still quite shocked by the dark and sombre landscape. We went on a tour of the active volcano and they were right it is like being on the moon. Quite unlike anywhere I have seen before and very difficult to get inot the sea withour killing your feet with all the black rocks everywhere. However the contrast makes the sea so bright blue and the sand so white. We went to a little island La Graciosa, which doesn’t have made up roads and is really quite unspoilt ap-art from the marina and shops where you disembark. Such a peaceful place and without any trees to give shade, baking hot but the nearest I have seen to unspoilt nature as we walked around until we got too hot and went into the sea. On the shore are handfulls of fossils and amazing rocks where the volcano caught up things as it went along and part buried them in the molten black. The hotel was very big and we soon got inot their routine to enjot sunbeds and meals while it was quieter before the main rush. They had hand made meringues Another highlight was a camel ride, which has been on my ‘must do’ list for years. Its a wonder I didn’t fall off laughing though as son’s camel behind us clearly wanted to be a leader but was the last inh the line, so he kept trying to push forward. This put his mouth on the back of Victor’s head and he kept bumping his muzzle on Victor or leaning on his shoulder. The photos look like the camel is eating his hair!!! I wasn’t laughing at all when it came to my side and was bumping my pony tail though, had visions of going home with short hair!! Best of all nobody needed medical help this holiday. Anyway back to England with lots of wedding preparations. Went to Yds final dress fit today and it was touch and go but they have managed to let the seams out enough to allow for her expanding tum. I don’t think she would have mad e another week though as looking very preggers now and the dressmaker was chiding her kindly. I am in smile city with a wedding and a new babe on the way and even the old folks have taken this latest news happily and without comment so we are in for a big celebration. I have not tried my dress on again yet, just cutting down in case eeek. Even mum is cheery despit having fallen and broken her arm while I was away I am sad to hear all the poor animal stories and hope they are all still enjoying walkies and dinner time, the sign of a happy dog. Carole I am hoping they will come up with something to help you. I am amazed they have left you for so long as you had inflammatory bc first time didn’t you and it is one of the slightly less common ones over here. You have had so many health appointments I was sure you were being seen very frequently. It should be reassuring to see one of the top bods if stress is a cause as that will hopefully bring you some comfort. Wish it would bring boob comfort too. Could you ask if there are any research trial going on? Lisa, I am TOWIE orange but the real thing lol. I must check out your jewellery again. MD had made a tiara for YD after teaching herself from a leaflet and it is lovely. She wanted a small one on a comb as she has very thick waist length hair which takes a fight to put up from the weight without anything else. She is also maing me a bracelet to match my outfit. All busy over here. Val the food sounds lovely and so does your cheery post that has us all smiling with you. I think the car sounded fab so just watch you don’t get caught speeding road testing it. That pedal still works I hope it is for good reasons that your daughter is back home and how lovley to have her company and someone else to cook for and to enjoy your meals together. Nick hows things? Can you pm me when you are up to it. Well better buzz off as been up for a long time today. Missed you all love Lily xxxxxxxxxxxx
Got a phone call tonight from the Dental hospital to go in tomorrow morning to have biopsy of the exposed bone in upper jaw and I will need stitches so to eat before I go! They want to look under the microscope to see if I do in fact have osteonecrosis of the jaw or if I (only!) have bone mets in my cheeckbone and scull. Hey ho…off we go again. Just when I was enjoying my life too! Val
Wishing Val good luck for the bone biopsy, that doesn’t sound pleasant but does it mean they can give appropriate treatment once they know the results? Knowing you as we do, this hitch won’t stop you enjoying life again, even if for a few days you won’t be able to eat anything except liquids - you can get some very tasty shakes so I’m told LOL. Seriously, thinking of you for tomorrow, let us know how it goes.
Lily have you managed the colossol amount of washing and ironing yet? You describe the Canaries how I’ve often written about them in my travel guides - I’ve never been but your description was interesting and your excursions sound fun. No doubt you are busy with all the wedding preparations so in case you don’t have time to visit here, hope all goes well on Saturday and wish YD a fantastic day.
Nicky how are you - I’m just a little bit concerned that we haven’t seen you for a week or so.
Lisa hope all the jewellery parties brought in loads of business and all your hard work has paid off.
I went for a blood test today, in preparation for the Onc on Monday. Yesterday we had a cute but prickly visitor to the garden - a hoglet. First I spotted him/her running around in our yet to be done swimming pool which had about 2 ins of water on the bottom from all the heavy rain the night before - I wonder if he/she got swept into it with all the torrential rain. Anyway I’m pleased to say after a meal of some cat food, once it started to get dark we let it go in the garden.
No other news from me, take care all and lots of hugs xx
Hi, firstly Val I hope the horrible part of having the procedure is made worth it by leading to them being able to help you to improve your jaw. As you say ironic that it could be ‘just mets’ - unbelievable what comes out of some peoples’ mouths when they don’t think hard enough. Wishing you the very best of luck and hoping it is speedy and the doctor is so good looking and cheery that you are distracted from everything going on. let us know how you are as we will all be thinking of you tomorrow and waiting to hear how you are. Carole thank you for your good wishes and it is very exciting but very busy. i love every moent of it, even the frantic rushing around looking for last minute items. ED is very annoyed to be working and not able to wander around shopping looking for matching hair decorations/dress colours. Tomorrow I am having my nails done with the gel and nail varnish that lasts 3 weeks (bet it doesn’t for me) and would you believe it, I have broken 5 nails doing washing grrr. At least the washing is all done. I have also put on weight as there were no sugar free drinks and also a lot of cakes there. My dress is snug to say the least so will be looking for some shaping underwear to haul it back in I was thinkin git must have been difficult to write about a place you have not seen, a real art to be able to do that. Hope boob is behaving a bit better. I read a few idea online about diet to help lymph, it might be worth a look as a more natural way to try to improve it. Was the blood test ok or are they easier these days? The hoglet sounds so cute, I hope it is ok. Lisa how did the jewelleryparties go? Carole you mentioned Nicky and she has been dropping me a few lines so I hope that reassures you. She has appointments so will update us all when she knows more and has a moment I am sure. Talking about Nicky, she was telling me she was disappointed to be unable to travel abroad for a fortnight as I have done so recently. So can we put our thinking heads on and come up with some interesting/exciting/ great/ unusual places/things to do to put some nice trips on her calendar? I will start by saying a trip on the Orient Express within England ( a bit expensive that one sorry). My next idea is to visit the Eden Centre. get your thinking heads on everyone. Nick hoping this week goes well and maybe we can come up with some ideas for some nice days/short trips that won’t be too tiring x. love to all Lily x
Hi ladies
Just a quick check in to see how everyone is - hope all went ok today Val, Nicky if you’re reading sending hugs, good luck for the wedding Lily hope the sun shines for you all and would love to see a photo sometime. Lisa I see from FB you’ve got a busy weekend.
For Nicky’s UK break how about a spa with thermal springs/waters - they’re very into that here as a remedy for lots of ailments - but take in some relaxation massages, facials have a manicure and pedicure - oohh, I could do with all of those myself.
Have a great weekend ladies xx
Hi, a spa place for me too Carole but after the weekend to recover from too much dancing! Just back from a quiet evening with all 3 of my girls, having a nice chat, occasional wrestle to get the most crisps and sweets and chatting about the wedding and memories from the past. A lovely evening. I have been for a gel nails this afternoon, so my hands at least are looking smart. Washed my hair today as the hairdresser is attempting to get it all up Audrey Hepburn bun style (well thats her plan!)and apparently newly washed hair will not stay up as well. Been moisturising so that my nose, various body parts do not decide to peel tomorrow. Babysitting first thing so that YD can walk her dogs so I will be up to my armpits in bubbles and a bouncy toddler trying to get baby bathed and hairwashed for the big day. Couldn’t think of a better start to the day . Victor has been practising his speech and making a few last minute changes so it flows well and no-one missed out of it. We also picked her wedding dress up, which is hanging upstairs just waiting for tomorrow. So excited. But not forgetting everyone here, hoping today went as well as possible Val, must have been a worry waiting to go in and have it done. Fingers crossed that the results will lead to a remedy for it. Nick keep reading our ideas and hopefully one will catch your eye and give you something nice to look forward to. Lisa enjoy your busy weekend and come back and tell us how it all went. Lily x
hi all, sorry been really busy what with jewellery starting back up, wigan for rugby and jsut got back and trying to book orlando for next easter been manic so feel bad not been around.
Proper catch up tomorrow as im beat right now jsut wanted to say good luck for all those appointments, val sounds painful xx Lily hope you have had an amazing day xxx
Hi ladies
Thanks for the wondering where I am, its been a slightly stressful week! Apart from that I do struggle typing on the iPad, Lisa will back me up on this, so I tend to read all the posts on it but forget to log in on the pc later to reply! Hope the new forum corrects this problem, PM’s are fine - at least it corrects the spelling mistakes properly and doesnt add really wierd combos!
Anyway, a busy week with me having to go as an day (or afternoon, in fact) patient to get my heart shocked into a regular rhythm. So another hospital visit, with preceding blood tests of course, and another fasting day! Procedure went OK and wasnt as scary as it sounds and came out of it with a regular heart beat, hooray. However due to all my problems there was a high chance of it not staying that way. So a lovely day on Friday feeling fine and then that evening it all kicked off again So I’m now back into my irregular rhythm and back to stage one. A chase around GP, cardio unit and NHS 111 service (all by phone yesterday morning) eventually got me the answer I needed to re start one of my heart meds that I was worried about. At times like this you realise that there is no NHS service at the weekend other than A and E so can completely understand all the reports that are in the press at the moment. Other than this on going saga, which now needs to be re examinerd as to what can be done next, I don’t have any news to report, so it’s on to all yours!
Lily - sorry I missed the wedding posts and news, I really havent been with it the last few days. I’m sure the wedding was lovely yesterday and you all had a wonderful time, perfect weather as well I expect - not too hot, phew.
Carole - hope all goes well with all your investigations with the GP and oncology - let’s hope they sort things out to help get you comfortable.
Val - ouch, the bone biopsy sounds painful but expect it’s necessary to really identify what’s going on in your jaw. Hope it’s not stopping you eating and also cooking your delicious food! We (Yd and I) prepared a large unboned pork joint yesterday for slow cooking, very slow cooking, over 5 hours! We are having some of it today and then freezing the rest for pulled pork buns with BBQ sauce (homemade of course) later on - yum, plus a few other recipes as its so big.
Lisa - hope the jewellery making is going a treat and more importantly selling well. Hope the rugby was fun - I know you’ve always enjoyed it but seems so early this year when the summer is still ‘happening’
Thank you for the ideas for trips/treats for me. OH and I have been discussing some anyway and hope to have a couple of short breaks in the next few weeks, or once the school holidays are over. Unfortunately can’t go abroad at the moment as I’m sure there’s no insurance company that would cover me for all my health issues - or not for a reasonable price at least. So its the UK or nothing I think. I avoid spa treatments, however lovely they sound, as they are not keen to treat anyone with BC or heart conditions for that matter although I have gone to hotels with spa pools, relaxation areas etc which is nice.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone.
Nicky x
So sorry for gatecrashing buddies but I’m just seeing how you are Nicky. I’m sorry to read the latest I’d really hoped you were getting to the end of all the investigating medical stuff. It’s quite frightening to hear NHS weekends really are as scary as the newspapers report. I hope you can manage a break away, somewhere lovely and quiet with pretty scenic views and far removed from hospitals. Take Care Nicky, Love Belinda…x
Hi, Nick thanks for the update and I am glad the procedure wasn’t as bad as it sounded but bloody disappointed for you that the effects did not stay. It must have been very stressful to experience normal and then feel it all changing and wonder what was happening. Beats me why they would attempt it at the end of the week when it would be more difficult to get advice and help. Or they could cover all the possible scenarios before you left. A little more care and thought would just make things so much easier. Will they try the heart procedure again? I hope they have another plan that does not involve anything nasty and especially blasted fasting days, horrible for you, they make me feel ill all day as my blood sugar goes bonkers.Thank you for your kind thoughts about our big day, will get back to that in a mo. Lisa was it an exciting match, I didn’t look at the scores? Son went to watch Man Utd play Wigan at the charity shield at Wembley. He was very excited as he is a big Man U fan but only ever sees it from sky tv. He was offered free tickets but the bad thing was that they were in the Wigan seats!!I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t jump up and cheer when M U scored and get in bother. Apparently there were other M U fans who were vocal, well outspoken more and a fight broke out right near him,so that he had no trouble keeping quiet. e always been happy to have anyone chat or join us on our post, saves everyone listening to me so often , so drop in anytime you want. Carole how are things going for you? val hope your mouth is not too uncomfortable and that results are helpful to lead to an improvement. Hi Belinda, always been happy to have anyone chat or join us on our post, saves everyone listening to me so often , so drop in anytime you want.
The wedding was such a lovely day. It started off quite ordinary, as YD wanted with her out walking her dogs in the fields with her friends and I got the job of getting baby breakfast, then a bath and hair wash to try to get his mop going the right direction. She had so much to do I also hoovered, washed the formula bottles and changed the sheets before dashing back for my hair to be done. It was Audrey Hepburn in style with a fring, a little beehive and then a bun. Sounds a bit mad but I had a lot of compliments so must have been ok. Then we all got ready together at a hotel and had our make up done. Lots of food and drinks to keep us going and then photos outside. Victor was chauffeur and fob for the day so the jag was polished and had white ribbons and bows waving in the breeze. I had the job of amusing baby (well he is 17 months now)in the front row of the ceremony. I had toys, books, drinks, you name it but hewas being a pickle and trying to run off so I was quite busy. Not helped by having a straight skirted dress and high heels on which meant he could easily outrun me, and he did! Nanna know best and my hidden cake in my handbag got him sitting still, although we made quite a lot of crumbs. She came in to Bruno Mars ‘think I want to marry you’ song, which apparently is a personal joke between them. I loved it and it had everyone smiling and bouncing in the aisles. The opther songs were all lovely romantic words but wiht a bit of a beat just like her all smiles and very relaxed. Baby had a mini suit like the groom and he was a picture, so cute. Little chap and smiler also had shirts, waistcoats and tie sets and the 3 of them were so cute. YD looked beautiful and smiled all day long but a lot more after the ceremony as she was a little nervous about it. Baby broke the ice by shouting muumy every now and again as he tried to escape my grasp and get to her. Her folwers were purple and creamy white and an informal bouquet as is fashionable at the moment and really pretty. She managed to get her baby tum into the dress and the dress actually flared at that point anyway so was very flattering. She was so happy I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Lovely canapes, speeches and then they evening folk arrived for a huge bbq and lots of salads, etc. Then a really good band and needless to say I overdid the dance moves and have been regretting it all day! victor says it serves me right. he danced to 3 songs, a record for him. son decided he and I should be on the dancefloor straight after the first dance so we were dancing a good 3 and a half hours or more. Great night of mad, crazy, silly and family dancing! I had to drive the car home and I don’t drive it very often so not particularly confidnet on parking as so much bigger than my car. Unfortunately I had forgotten to take my driving glasses so only had my black prescription sunglasses and could barely see a thing driving home so went about 20 most of the way. After a while Victor said why one arth are you driving so slowly? I replied, if you knew how little I could see ahead you would be telling me to go even slower! Fell asleep in 1 second and then a big family brekky at the hotel this morning. Such a lovely lovely weekend and can’t wait to see the photos, apart from he ones he took of us dancing argggh. Better buzz off as still catching up on sleep Lily x
Evening ladies
Nicky your experience with the heart rhythm sounds frightful and it must have been so annoying to go into it again after it had worked, I agree with Lily, maybe it would have been better to do it earlier in the week. Can they not fit you with one of those devices that jolts the heart into the correct rhythm when the electronics know it is going to happen you don’t feel it, it just sorts it out for you – I know a few people who’ve had them and it seems to have helped their health? I don’t mean a pacemaker it’s something else of which the name fails me at this time.
Lily your details of the wedding made me feel like I was there as a guest. The bride sounds as though she had a nervous start but then enjoyed the day and the bride’s mother sounds like she had her hands full LOL. Did you manage to keep your heeled shoes on all day and evening or did you change into some comfortable sandals for the evening? Your lovely grandsons, dressed up in waistcoats etc. superb. Your drive home sounds a bit scary, wasn’t you tempted to get a mini cab? Mind you I don’t think I would have wanted to leave a Jag just anywhere. Are the newlyweds off on honeymoon? I’ve had a giggle to myself at the thought and picture as you describe it of Lily200 dancing.
Hi to newbie Belinda
Lisa apart from the rugby how did your parties go
Val hope you are recovering from your biopsy ok and being looked after by Mr S L.
Not really much in the way of news from me – had my RDV with the Oncologist today who agreed the breast is swollen and doesn’t look right, but he doesn’t know why so is not making a diagnosis until I’ve had a mammogram, ultrasound and probably an MRI. He mentioned it could be a few things, amongst others bruising, seroma, and even the C word – but didn’t think it was – so now I have to wait for all these appointments. Hopefully whatever is hard inside the breast causing the swelling can be safely removed so I can get rid of this discomfort. Is it possible for plain and simple oedema to be hard? This is what he’s calling it anyway.
Well I’m signing off now as I’m about to peer up to the sky to see if I can see any more shooting stars, if I do this time I will remember to make a wish – I forgot last week xxx
Hi all, sorry off to bed with drafted headaches again so will catch up tomorrow, off to docs again as just found a lump on head mind you I could have banged it and can’t remember but still contestant headaches, hopefully just ear infection that hasn’t cleared up!
nicky appointment sounds not nice, hope you get it sorted and can mange some nice weekends away, hum must think of some places mind I’m useless sat how far away things are etc…
carole, hope its just bruising!!
lily, wedding sounds fab, must re.read when more awake!!
well off now, iPad typing gets even worse when tired!
xxx
Hi ladies, and good to see your post Belinda
As you can all imagine I am very frustrated by this failure however it was to be expected and I now need to find out what other procedures will be done, having discussed them already. A pacemaker is one of the options but I think there might be another option in between. The most annoying thing was not knowing what to do over the weekend, as I said, having had no guidelines given to be when discharged. I did go back to the ward yesterday morning, after phoning, and they were very good, giving me an ECG and a lot of reassurance. As OH said its not the staff, its the system!
Lily, the wedding sounds lovely, any photos would be appreciated Audrey
Carole, hope all the tests will give you a good answer and treatment to help this discomfort, must be so frustrating after so long on the surgery treadmill!
Lisa, hope you get sorted out as well with any worries you might have, I’m sure you will also get good answers.
Val, how are you doing? Hopefully OK and enjoying some of the shooting stars that Carole has also mentioned as Ive just read its meteor season and seen photos ofthe ones seen further north than us, in clear skies. Not much luck in the crowded South!
Nicky x
Aw Nicky I can imagine your frustration, fingers crossed for you they get it sorted out pretty quick so you can get on with getting better, what caused the heart problems in the first place is it hereditary?
No such luck here with shooting stars last night, the sky was really cloudy so didn’t see any stars let alone shooting ones I feel so let down today as some of my friends in the UK have reported seeing some!! I’m on the look out tonight just in case.
Lisa sorry to hear you’re troubled by headaches again, is it a sinus problem do you think? The ear infection you had won’t help so maybe you need a double dose of AB’s.
Not much to report this side of the water, just another hot day and lots of plant watering to do. Lily we await your photos.
Hi, well I guess I could email a few photos if anyone wants me to, probably mislaid all email addresses so would need a pm with them on. We only have the amateur family ones at the moment to pass on, so they will not include any embarassing dancing shots. I have to confess to doing nothing this week except going out and about with my little chaps and buying tea or lattte and cakes everywhere. Hence my trousers feeling a little more snug than I would like and another diet likely, when i can face up to it and not cheat. It has been a great week though Carole I had Kurt Geiger shoes with a wedge platform so that helped the angle of my feet. I was ok until son dragged me onto the dance floor and after 3 songs I had to change to some flatties. They were really pretty though, from Next in pale pink with tiny jewels all over and double straps, so a bit Grecian in appearance, most important very comfortable. They go away very soon for a week. I don’t even want to think that you could have another big problem with your boob, that just wouldn’t be fair. Lets insist it is oedema. The other things that could be there and are hard are scar tissue and also maybe a cyst or abscess. None are nice but preferable of course, will keep my fingers crossed for you and you know what to wish if you see a shooting star this time x. Lisa sorry to hear your head is giving you trouble again but I think a lump is a very common thing as I get them occasionally and actually have one at present that sticks right out within my hair. Remember the 2 week rule on symptoms. I had a few headaches (not bad though, just mild and persistent) and realised I had drunk a lot of sugar while away as there were no diet drinks so I had to go through the come off sugar headaches again. Good luck and try not to over think if you can, worrying is definitely bad for you! Nick when do you go back to review what happened with your heart beat? Hope the other results are continuing to improve and move in the right direction. You must feel like you deserve your own parking space at the hospital! Do you have to pay at each one, that used to bug me, always having to have the correct change, without the actual mounting costs of keeping going so often. Well I am off to be. Take care love Audrey x
Hum been about 2 months of headaches now and noises in ear now it’s as thought heartbeat in ear, but hey enough about me, lily wedding sounds fab would love to see photos so will pm you soon.
carole, when do you get your results?! X
XNicky hope the appointments are going upwards in terms of outcomes.
val, bit peckish, any goody stories or are you maybe on hols?
well to bed, things a bit manic at work at the moment and with headaches and jewellery.
poor Robbie has a bug, the dioraehha is not pleasant was everywhere when I got home tonight so he’s been to frets, had a jab and antibiotics tomorrow , that will be fun.
night all, oh I’m off for a pamper in the lakes tomorrow it’s one of my birthday pressies, so wish I could ge a massage might n relax the neco and head xxx
night all xx
Hi, Lisa that sounds so horrible. After my ear drum burst I was struggling to hear in that ear and then when they gave me drops it was far worse as I could hear the liquid swirling its way through. The tinnitus noises did stop but it took quite a while. Any ear trouble sets it off but getting better each time. Just a thought as ears take ages to improve if its gunk behind the ear drum. Sorry it is hanging on so long. Have a nice weekend everyone and don’t forget we will not be able to post from Monday until the new forum starts, so make sure you leave us something to read or a question or something until we chat again. Lily x
