December 2017 Chemo Starters

Aww Cathsin - good of you to take one for the team this week re A&E! Hope they have sorted you out and are feeling better. I had my first paclataxol on Thursday after four EC and I just can’t believe the difference in side effects. No nausea, and for someone who has felt sick every day for the last two months, this is an amazing feeling! I was dreading going in each time simply because of the horrendous side effects but I have been fine apart from a bit of indigestion, aches and pains and tingly hands (so far, I know, I know). Hell I even had a Guinness last night (for the iron, you understand) which is the first time I have been able to contemplate alcohol. And with three more to go I finally feel for the first time I can see the chequered flag. Good luck to everyone who is back in the chair this week or receiving results, we must all be pretty much at or approaching the half way mark. We couldn’t have imagined this eight weeks ago and look at us now. Esp those of us who have faced major wobbles, allergic reactions and moments of wanting to just run away. Keep strong ladies and enjoy your weekends xxx

Sorry to hear you’ve had a trip to A&E Cathsin but at least you’re being treated with antibiotics and should start feeling better soon!

Dramamix - My Onc has mentioned Pacxitol to me as alternative to Docx but still undecided until I have my meeting with him on 12th Feb prior to cycle 4. Im having a real rough time with the side effects of EC especially the unrelenting nausea and tiredness. The change of antisickness meds and half steriod dose havent better it better, in fact it feels worse! Hope you continue with better results!

Day 3 / cycle 3 of 1st docetaxel and I’m not feeling too bad. I had awful side effects and allergic reaction to both FEC so I am keeping my fingers crossed I will be one of those that fares better on the T. I have a very sore mouth and I am achey but coping with that with Gelclair and OTC cocodamols. Even managed a short visit to my very poorly mum with my auntie this morning. Sofa afternoon now though. Hang in there lovelies…xxx

Camilla good luck with scan today and Cathsin hope you feel better soon xx

I arrived at my scan appt an hour early and I was seen straight away, results will be sent to my Oncologist.
Then had lovely drive through rolling Kent countryside, watched Federer in Aus Tennis Open and now in front of log fire while husband cooks dinner.
Bloods and assessment tomorrow and 3rd chemo Weds, so calm before the storm!
Really dreading the docetaxel chemo 4 as se’s sound horrendous…

Good luck for wed Camilla x

Has anyone still taken their period while getting the chemo.
I took one and it’s really heavy

Back to work for me today for some normality until round 2 on the 8/2. Hope you’re all doing ok and good lick to those having treatment this week. xx

Fingers crossed for your results camilla ?

Hope the return to work is kind to you rabbit

Hope you’re feeling better cathsin.

Karebear I had one period quite soon after my first cycle but it’s not appeared since. Chemo put me the menopause last year but my periods returned in July. I have certainly not missed the hot flushes!!

Good to hear you’re side effects aren’t too awful dramaminx.

Hope everyone is ok xx

Hi all,

Well the hair hung on well til this weekend, it’s coming out in handfuls and the back looked slightly moth eaten this am so am going to give it a no 3 clipper tonight. Another gift this weekend has been nosebleeds. Not lasting long but a couple a day since Friday, has anyone else had this ? I’m back again Wed so can ask nurses on unit if it’s something to be concerned about or not.

Hope everyone’s weekend went uneventfully and was enjoyed by all.

Cathsin- hope you’re on the mend and the antibiotics have done their stuff.

Camilla - good luck for scan results and next dose this week.

Dramaminx - make sure you let them know about the hands, they’ve lowered my dose as at 6/12 my fingertips we’re going pins and needles numb. It’s a side effect but my dose reduced as it can be permanent ?. Onc said that as I’m halfway better to reduce and complete than continue on full and have to stop sooner.  Please mention to docs before you get your next one. ?

Morning ladies, hope everyone is managing ok. Quick question, does anyone else suffer with a sore tongue a few days after chemo? I have difflam & nystatin. Eating pineapple too. It almost feels swollen & painful to swallow. I know it’ll settle by next week but it’s so hard to drink when it’s so painful ?

Hope shaving your hair wasn’t too traumatic Fiona ? I’ve not had nosebleeds as such but blood when I blow my nose which is frequently as it runs all the time! Especially when it’s so cold!! Xx

I’ve had an almost permanent feeling of having drunk a too hot drink with my tongue and tried various mouthwashes prescribed and not. It’s not as bad if I suck a sweet or chew gum but never really goes away.
Definitely feeling the draft today? I also bumped into BCN doing bloods today and nosebleeds not uncommon but she’s going to get them to do a clotting bloood test before chemo tomorrow. Feel better for knowing it’s not out of the ordinary and easily checked out tomorrow.
Hope everyone else is doing ok this week.
Fiona

Hi Fiona…I get the same with my mouth and was given Gelclair and that has helped. I was also advised sucking on boiled sweets and I do think it helps with keeping saliva so mouth doesn’t get so dry.
Nikki xx

That’s chemo 3 done.
Hopefully I can cope with the side effects and no new ones appear.
Xx

???well done karebear :heart::heart:Get the fluids down you lovely and keep ???:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Hi ladies need some advice I have spent nearly 5 days in bed shattered no appetite drinking water ok any ideas what I can do to snap out of it x

Cathsin :heart:And hug. Have you managed to eat any food at all? What day of the cycle are you on too please? ??:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Oh that’s horrid Cathsin, have you got someone around who can make you some veggie soup all blitzed up or just 2 or 3 titbit nibbles? I’ve been lucky and not had that feeling but it must be awful. Even if you have a nibble on a digestive biccie every couple of hours it may help. Really hope you manage something as the less you eat the less you want to. Wish you a speedy upturn ?? Fiona x

Sorry to hear you’re feeling awful cathsin. Big hug ? Have you got a temperature? As Fiona said, is anyone around to make you something? What about a few salt & vinegar crisps? Not very healthy or nutritious but they always still taste the same & might get your appetite going? Sometimes when you eat your body realises how hungry it is! I know it sounds daft & it’s hard when you’ve no energy but doing something sometimes helps to take the focus off of feeling so awful. I had cycle 3 on Thursday last week & when I walked my daughter to school yesterday I thought I was going to pass out I felt so weak, I did feel feel better for it in the afternoon though. Have a bath for a change of scenery. I’m rambling on aren’t I!! Hope you feel more human very soon xx

Well done karebear, hope you’re feeling ok xx

Glad you got to talk to someone about your nosebleeds Fiona.

I got some of that gel stuff for my mouth when I had my kind flush today, hope it works. I’ve been sucking the boiled sweets which was a good tip…thank you xx

Cathsin, don’t underestimate your trip to A&E at the weekend, it will have knocked you out so you’ve got that to recover from as well as everything else that’s going on. But it is important to try to get up and get dressed each day, even if you spend all day on the sofa, otherwise it gets more and more difficult to get motivated. I find ginger nut biscuits are good to nibble on if you don’t really fancy anything.

Camilla, thinking of you today, let us know how it goes.

And we haven’t heard from DrBex for ages - are you ok?

On a different note, I am getting mightily fed up with this windy weather!! Definitely not wig friendly!!
