December 2017 Chemo Starters

Thanks ladies I had chemo 3 last wed so hopefully should be on upturn next few days . Defo the chest infection has not helped . Managed some soup after throwing up the small amount of food I had this morning . Temp is ok have become a bit obsessive after the episode on sat . Will send hubby for some digestives and crisps see if that can kick my appetite you are right I defo need to get a shower x

Hi all, had chemo 3 today and no side effects yet. Next time drugs changed to docetaxel, herceptin and pertuzumab. Have to go in for 2 days this first time. Feel so apprehensive about the docetaxel.
I see my Oncologist on Tues to discuss results of CT scan on the lungs. Fingers crossed.
Sorry you’re feeling so low, Fiona but you must try to eat little, but often. Your body really needs the nutrition to give you some energy and keep up your blood cells.
Think of good as more medicine, whether you want it or not.
Big hugs.

Food, not good!

It’s poor Cathsin that’s feeling so rough. Hope she’s feeling a tad hungrier today. ?

How are you feeling today cathsin?

Rabbit, how are you finding work?

The wind is definitely not wig friendly!!! I remember it well from last year!! All the mums at the school moaning about their hair & I used to think ‘you think you’ve got problems!!!’ ?

Hope everyone is ok xx

Hope you are all feeling ok ladies and side effects being as kind as possible.

The wind is def not wig friendly, I have been going for hats recently

Thats me currently in for cycle 4, herceptin perjeta and docetaxol, currently have the gold plated 10k perjeta drug going in ?? xx

Hi Kirsty,

I switch to exactly the same drugs as you next time. Do let us know how you get on re side effects as all a learning curve!

Was the herceptin injection in the thigh?

Good luck.

I had last FEC To yesterday.

Hi Camilla, I will keep you all posted with any new side effects I get from the switch. No, the herceptin and perjeta were also IV like the chemo as i believe they are given by iv when getting the chemo drugs as well, but after chemo finishes and we all continue on the herceptin only for however many doses it is, that’s when it changes to an injection in leg form.

Hope you are feeling ok after last fec

They havent given me the injections to boost white cells which I thought they gave with tax, but apparently dont need them so thats fine by me

Sam have you had the injections to take home with you with being om tax? X

Hi ladies latest update . Back in hospital was dehydrated and they looking for an infection they not sure of what as yet . In overnight will k ow more tomorrow

Kirsty I have had the injections on perjerta heceptin dozetaxel and carbaplatin

Oh no Cathsin let’s hope that they get you sorted as soon as possible. It’s grim enough feeling ? at home in your own bed nevermind in hospital. Send a big hug ? and get better quick vibes. F x

Oh no cathsin sorry to hear you are back in hospital :frowning: hope they get you sorted and you get home soon!

Ah I see mojan, that’s good then as I dont actually want any injections if I.can get away without them.
It wasnt me that had the sore mouth, one of our other ladies though.

Ive not slept well due to the bloody steroids like usual but feeling fine so far apart from the crappy sleep.

Good luck to anyone having their treatment today xx

Hi Unicorngirlmummy, works not been too bad this week, very busy so the weeks flown by but quite tired in the evenings, looking forward to a break at the weekend.

Saw the oncologist yesterday, shes arranging additional medication to help with side effects for round 2 coming up on Thursday. She’s also increased my cycles from four to six.

Cathsin sorry to hear you are back in hospital and hope you feel better and get home soon.

Kirsty, hope you don’t get too many side effects and a better nights sleep tonight. Are you still managing to work?

Hope everyone else is ok. xx

Glad work is going ok rabbit, enjoy a relaxing weekend though

Well done Kirsty getting cycle 4 done!! Hope it’s being kind to you!

It was my mouth Moijan, it’s almost back to normal. Six months of Tax? Bless you ?

Good to hear work has been ok Rabbit, so much admiration for all of you amazing ladies working through treatment ?

Hope everyone is ok xx

How you feeling today Kirsty?
I just saw your comment and yes I am sent home with an injection … however mine is just one injection that is done 24hrs after chemo and that lasts the full cycle rather than having to do it every day for a week.
Cathsin - hope you feel better pronto! Xx

Hey sam, feeling fine so far today but have a bit.of a dry mouth? Slightly stingy throat but no temp and fine apart from that.
Crappy steroid sleep last night so pretty tired so off to bed shortly and hopefully get a better sleep.

Ah that sounds so much better than daily injections! They havent given me anything this time but apparently my dose maybe gets upped next round ao maybe ill get them then.

Hope your still feeling better/turned a corner coming thru cycle 3 x

Oh hello! Thanks for looking … was working at home up to chemo 2 + CT scan (lung scare - all good … but) Chemo 3 bought me MRI scan for spine (is a hemangioma - benign collection blood cells) which got all clear from on Monday. Also an operation on extra lump on mastectomy site which I watched surgeon extract under local - he’s 99% sure a fatty lump. Slept loads for 2 days, now horrifically wide awake after having first Paclitaxel today … despite getting up 6.30am and being shattered and having taken 50mg of sleeping pills! BUT ‘one treatment at a time’ and about to put Harry Potter on Audible on! Checking in to see how people are doing too! 8 more weekly treatments to go then radiotherapy + tamoxifen. Work also asking what they should be putting me in for teaching wise next academic year - so trying to have those convos + parents are going to help me out with kitchen re-design so planning that! Had a binge catch up on Silent Witness tonight! Xxx

hi ladies hope everyone is coping at moment . My update is still in hospital does not look like I am going anywhere soon as they unsure what is causing the diahorrea relentless it is I am shattered. Keep having iv anti biotics and fluids but there is no let up . Staff are amazing. Got to dash toilet calls x

Cathsin, sorry to hear you still have ??are you on t? T is notorious for ??get someone to smuggle you some foot long subways i so you can up your carbs, upping the carbs can help with the ??. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon for you lovely and keep drinking to keep hydrated ??:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Golly, so many of you absolutely wonderful ladies!  I am a bit of an antique on this trail now, but, a couple of things come to mind re side effects. Like many of you I did work right through ec, then taxotere, which is quite strong, but, there is research evidence to show that people have a better life expectancy after a taxane and so I think this is why the trend is more towards that.

I myself am on taxol now, which is supposed to be a bit easier…will let you know xx I’m sure all the worker bees are aware we are protected by law as cancer patients? So employers have to demonstrate they are being reasonable… and have to accommodate your needs where possible…I’m putting this in because some of you are teachers and I noticed one of you have been approached about work issues…I am aware teaching is very stressful just now, friends and family have told me…so do consult your union reps or even hr…they should want to hold on to you…xx you certainly don’t need stress from them!

cathsin, my heart goes out to you…I hate being in hospital and every now and then I have had cellulitis and had to go in…it’s the wretched veinhunt that I hate…nowadays the nurses are so busy that they don’t always flush the cannula and then it needs resighting…such a pain…as an ex nurse, I m afraid I have tried to remind them to flush it…but it’s difficult.

Re filgrastim,or gcsf. Taxotere can render you nutrapenic which means a hospital stay…so if you are offered it…really, I’d think about snapping it up, the injections are not painful, in fact I was on a different chemo last time and it did really boost the white cells and the red ones which means more energy!

Try and keep mobile ladies…like you I don’t get much sleep, but have already had one DVt  and cancer does make us more prone to them. I got mine whilst studying at uni and sitting too much I think.xx

lastly, just to share that I always, out of habit now take boots ‘Antiseptic wipes’ with me in my bag and if eating anywhere I give the cutlery a once over. Also useful for cleaning my tummy before filgrastim or other injection at home. They are in a blue wipes type wrapper, but you have to search for them.

i also, for years now have used Vicks ‘First defence’ nasal spray which sits in the nose and clots any bugs at the start, so useful agains colds, maybe flu too. So far, (?) I haven’t ever been let down…I always use it in crowded places. Just squirt it inside the outer side of the nose…not up it.

hope this is of use to some of youxx

love and hugs,Moijanx
