Ooo no one around, I will just make a big log fire in case anyone comes in later, is it too early for mulled wine? Dont like it really but it smells nice!! Dragged in a lovely Christmas tree, ready to be decorated later!! Ive put a lovely big pot of stew in the oven (with dumplings) so help yourselves! Snowing heavily outside - so Im going to pull up that lovely squidgy sofa get my book and just chill out. Hope everyone is keeping well (and warm!!)

Shirley!!! the stew smells marvellous!!!.
I was just passing by and the aroma dragged me in . Oh look at those dumplings…wow.
I will sit up to the table to eat it as I don’t want it down my front…I have a large landing area as you can see.
I will give a hand with the decorating if you like. I am not very good on steps though.I better have the mulled wine later!!
Hi Ladies [and G if he is about]
Fabulous tree and the deccies look lovely. I also like the Christmassy smell of mulled wine but not the taste. I’m a closet Christmas sherry drinker myself [I can’t believe I’ve just come out about that] so will pour myself a large one and sit by the fire for a bit. No snow yet but there’s some on the way apparantly.
Really must get on with some Christmas shopping, oh well soon, honestly I’ll do it soon.
Right AJ - I shall ensure we have a bottle of sherry and these silly wee glasses for you at the Lakes.
Christmas shopping? Wassat?
Christmas… is that something that happens in the rads dept. if not then you’ve lost me
shall we make DDI a Christmas free zone? please!!!
Do I detect a Bar Humbug in the DDI, you can spend Christmas with my OH if you like Anna, worse BH ever!!! I blame his mother, her tree goes up Christmas Eve [one of those plug-in fibre optic thingies] and comes down Boxing Day and this year we aren’t even going for the annual carb fest [otherwise known as a buffet tea].
In his defence he is entering into the spirit this year. Whilst very bored on his last trip away he went shopping on the internet and we are now the proud owners of a set of 9 blue and silver Tottenham Hotspur Christmas tree baubles that, apparantely, are going on my tree!!!
You really should try the Christmas sherry thing, silly little glasses so everyone thinks your not drinking much but it goes down a treat and hits the spot in record time [hic] Merry [hic] Christmas [hic] Everybody
Anyway must get on, I’m at work so not meant to be in here.
Love to all

AJ-
Must try the sherry thing - sounds good. I am getting used to a glass of wine in the evening when I remember…which is very nice indeed.
Annamarie, I am sorry but I cannot condone a Christmas-free area (aka Christmas dmz). It only comes once a year and if we are lucky, we might be able to catch the real spirit at the DDI instead of the materialism.
Prob what you want anyway is a space away from the commercialism. Right. We can do that here.
Owner of the DDI hereby posts:
No selling of gifts, hawking of treats or, in general, being materialistic over the Christmas holiday (from December 24 - January 8 or whenever the Ephipany is this year).
We can offer community drinks, lots of cheer, good food, exchange hand made presents and in general decorate a tree with NON-Commerical trinkets.
EJ then proceeds to go to the corner of the bar and set up the live Christmas Tree, inserting the calico tree skirt handmade by her bgf underneath the tree. She places a box of opened Christmas balls, crafted soldiers from clothepins, soft felt ornaments and candy canes out so folks who wander in can help in decorating the tree. All are welcome, if you are in the mood, go ahead.
I will leave on that note thinking it should be such a wonderful new year.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>stirs some pancake batter and places in the fridge for the morning
>>>>>>>adds in some Vermont maple syrup…just add more of your own if you have it
sets out some whole wheat crackers and a thick wedge of brie for those who can’t sleep at night
jingle bells, jingle bells…jingle all the wayyyyyyyyy

Are you working these days or are you at home or are you just looking?

Hi EJ,
Sorry was doing the daughter thing last night and spent some quality time with my Mum.
The kids are fine, looking forward to Santa coming. Abby fractured her arm 3 weeks ago at her grandparents, but didn’t need a cast and is fine and dandy. It only stopped her sucking her thumb for a few hours LOL. Kyle is in the mist of the dreaded first yr exams and Luke is ploughing along nicely.
My OH got the sack a couple of weeks ago due to “bad time keeping” basically he had taken a few days and hours off for me and they called him in and told him he wasn’t committed to the company. We are going to try to take it further, we see legal advisors this week.
Rads is fine, only getting red now and been given a richer ointment to use to prevent the skin from breaking. It’s been a doddle compared to chemo, I can’t believe that I’m at the end of the road, in regards to hospital stuff.
I’m not working but I am thinking about going back in the New Year, as long as the hair grows a little more.
How are you? How’s your OH? How’s work going? How was thanks giving? Are you seeing your family over the holidays?
Hi to everyone else.
Love and hugs

Leeloo - there was an landmark judgement at the European Court of Justice just recently - some woman had a disabled child and it was decided that she came under the auspices of disability discrimination even though she herself wasn’t disabled, she was discriminated against by association. You must seek advice very quickly. The first thing he has to do is raise a grievance. There are strict time limits, 3 months less 1 day to raise a matter at employment tribunal and employers have 28 days to respond to a grievance - so you’ll have to get a shift on.
Best of luck with it
drops adviser cap on the bar and picks up a black beard
.
well done westie - good concise advice!!
i think it’s frost rather than snow here…but it looks seasonal… i need to ice my christmas cake this week and the following w/end i’ll be making fudge for the family. I only have three more days of work and then i have 2 weeks off.
That tree is looking a bit sparse at the top EJ - has wee tricia been in?? hang on, i’ll pop some bits on near the top.
had my first follow up mamaogram… didn’t take long!!! I met a woman at the breast screening unit who had had a badddd week - she’d argued with a pair of scissors and had a finger all strapped up, she’d had a tooth abscess and then been diagnosed with cancer…
take care all… pass that sherry AJ - stop hogging the bottle!!

well done Jen!!! tree looks much better
Well we must all be swallowed up with Christmas shopping, the bar has been empty for 6 days.
I’ll put the tree lights on, light the fire and warm some mince pies.
Have spent the last week decorating the hall which is now all done except no carpet cos there was a mix up over one of the measurements and it didn’t fit so will now have to wait till 5 Jan to get it done.
My eldest turned 20 yesterday so am feeling very old and in need of a stiff drink so will crack open another bottle of sherry and warm my tootsies by the fire.
Cheers

Ahhh nice fire. Yes we have been busy indeed. Shopping. Cooking. Cleaning (dreaded task that it is…) and in general being far too busy. Well, except for work, which is torturously slooooooooow. I am very tempted to bring a book!
Jen, the tree looks much better with the “bits” on top. AJ, the lights are wonderful. Well, look at that! An entire box of soft ornaments. Let’s see - what have we here. A plump but happy Santa. A seahorse with a wreath wrapped around its neck. An hand-painted elf on balsa wood. A crochet snowflake, still sparkling white. A German Angel hand cut from parchment. Pretty. Hangs up each ornament and invites anyone who is willing to join in decorating the tree. The only thing it needs now is either tinsel or garland. What do you think?
Lights the fire and sits back on the swing for a nice, long look at the tree. Looking good.
::::::::::::::::mix, stir, whip…sets up a batch of cookie dough in case someone gets ambitious and needs that fresh smell of cookies
//////////////////last but not least, brings in cases of champagne for the New Year (it’s not too far away after all a girl has to be prepared!)
deck the halls with boughs of hollllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy…
tissssssssss the season to be joollllllllllyyyyy

Hi all…
I have been away for my boy’s graduation… very proud mum - he got his MA with distinction …as for age …try having a 22yo AJ!! My younger one is 20… both boys and G and I met up for a meal the night before graduation which was lovely. Gareth was sporting a cracker of a black eye after an altercation with a wall… it WASN’T ME GUV- HONEST!! V stylish…
I have finished work for 2 weeks now - but finished off with losing the stone from an amethyst ring I am v fond of, a claw had broken - an hour of searching later - including bins (nice…) i gave up and came home and there it was… on the floor next to the coffee table! i was v pleased to find it - now I just need to get it fixed, but that is better than having to make an insurance claim and not getting such a good stone.
I had the result of my mammogram today - clear - all well and good but so was last year’s when i actually had a tumour and it was palpable but nothing showed… the docs assure me that as i get older the results will become more reliable - the problem is i won’t know when that is - how old do i have to be…
So this weekend will see me making fudge and mince pies, lemon cheese and such like. Cleaning?? pah - that’s men’s work and i have 3 at home now! So. pop in for home made goodies this weekend and i’ll do my best.
lots of love to you all
J xx
