Diagnosed with Breast Cancer two days ago, how am I meant to feel?

Welcome. Firstly I just want to reassure you that I felt exactly the same when first diagnosed. Once the treatment started it became easier because I was no longer in limbo. Breast cancer treatment and longevity has improved dramatically. I’m 8 years down the line now. Keep the faith. Eat well, plenty of fresh foods and I was told to cut down on red meat as its a strain on the body to digest and contains many toxins. Take CBD drops which helps with anti inflammatory. Your body needs to be nourished with high value green vegetables and vitamin C. I’ve no idea if the advice I received made any difference, but I’m still here! Best wishes and bless you. :raising_hands:

i can relate. I was told on 11/12/25. I went alone. I wanted everyone to have a good Christmas and have no idea how I’ve kept going. I shared with my brother and best friend and chose not to share with My husband who just got home from working abroad and has no clue. I must be great at masking. I was told on that day that I have a grade 3 HER2 positive multi focal tumors with involved lymph nodes and I’ve not cried but feel maybe I need to. I just want to start treatment and that’s not for another 2 weeks today I was informed that the plan remains chemo , surgery and radiation with a curative plan even though the CT showed a micro single lesion on my lung. Maybe it’s not scary because I have come I. Here and have hope. Thank you all for sharing and for the comfort of knowing I’m not alone. My next appointment is on 5/1/26 and then I’ll share with my children and remaining siblings. My husband I’ll tell once the new year is over. I’m hopeful and optimistic. I’m also learning how tough chemo can be so to be prepared.

Hi sorry to crash so late… but I keep hearing this about Lobular and Chemo.. is it that it doesn’t respond so well to it? Am awaiting margins & nodes results post xmas surgery on 23rd. So hoping to avoid chemo…

Did you have any in situ stuff also or was the 58mm that all tumour? Sorry hope you don’t mind me asking. My tumour is 10mm but there’s 26mm high grade in situ round it.. makes me anxious about margins…

I had 2 tumours removed by lumpectomy the 58mm was both tumours & tissue in between. I have appointment on Monday 5th to get results from surgery including the 3 lymph nodes removed. I am just hoping all results are back, had surgeon the 9th December.

Hi. @anxiouslyawaiting
I didn’t have any in situ tumours, I had 3 invasive tumours (24mm, 15mm and 10mm) which covered an area of 6.5cm - so mastectomy and reconstruction..lobular tends to have low oncotype scores, as it doesn’t generally respond to chemo. If nodes are involved however, depending on menopause status, chemo is sometimes recommended. I hope that makes sense?! Fingers crossed you get clear margins and nodes :crossed_fingers: Keep us posted - the waiting is horrid :face_blowing_a_kiss: xx

Thank you for your reply and Good Luck for the 9th :folded_hands:t3: my surgery wasn’t till December 23rd. They told results one to two weeks but that’s like now. I think it will be longer x

Because I had a mastectomy with clear margins, I didn’t have radiotherapy. I’m on letrozole.
I’m doing very well thank you and have had 2 ‘satisfactory’ mammograms on my real boob - so all good! xx

Hi Diddy, yes got the results on Monday & was back in yesterday for mo surgery & they didn’t get clear margins. Good news it hasn’t spread to my lymph nodes. They have sent off sample for onco test and said if don’t get clear margins this time next conversation will be mastectomy. They found a third small tumour & pleomorphic LCIS is present as well. Can anyone else here had these results & what was your treatment. Is there a chance of high onco core because of pleomorphic LCIS

That’s great news about your lymph nodes @nancy7 but so sorry that you’ve needed more surgery… fingers crossed for clear margins this time.

My understanding of pleomorphic LCIS is that it’s an in-situ cancer/ pre-cancer that has a higher potential to become invasive than normal LCIS. Hopefully it doesn’t mean more chance of a higher oncotype :crossed_fingers:The waiting is tough, so be kind to yourself and try not to fret. lots of love xx :hugs::heart:

@nancy7 so sorry you had to have more surgery. Was this because they weren’t aware of the LCIS area pre surgery? But great news on lymph nodes. What a relief. I also had a 30mm area of pleomorphic LCIS (they refer to it as high grade DCIS but my original pathology report says it’s a pleomorphic subtype of my 10mm ILC which is ER8 and HER2 Low. As far as I am aware the In Situ cells do not increase OnCo type score :folded_hands:t3: what size was your ILC and was it HER2 neg and ER pos? Wishing you all the best x

@diddy1 thank you. How are you? My whole area of in situ and invasive was hopefully removed on Dec 23 but I won’t know for sure intil my results. Due to xmas backlog mine are reviwed at next Weds MDM then my appointment will either be after that. Hospital will call me. This waiting time is weird and hard. Normal life goes on.. but results are never far from my mind. I am Still @anxiouslyawaiting :grimacing: x

I am 70 , and consider myself fortunate that i do not have to deal with the emotional consequences of sharing news with children, but nevertheless, when i was diagnosed with breast cancer in October, it felt like a great big juggernaut was coming at me with cancer written on its side. There is no ‘meant to feel’ and lots of well meaning friends will try to make you feel better with stories of various people they have known who survived … ( years/ hair loss/ secondaries… you name it) none of this will make you feel better. Give yourself some space to talk to your breast cancer nurse, or online. get yourself some information-loads around, but accept the feelings you will get, and remember you are very likely to come out of the other side of this .

Hi Diddy, my results are

Tumour. one:

Invasive lobular carcinoma with mixed classic and pleomorphic features, grade 2 (tubules 3, pleomorphism 3, mitoses 1).

Invasive carcinoma measures 37mm in max. dimension

Tumour 2

Invasive lobular carcinoma, grade 2 (tubules 3, pleomorphin 2, mitoses 1) 1

Invasive carcinoma measures 4mm in max. dimension

Tumour three:

Invasive lobular carcinoma, grade 2 (tubules 3, pleomorphism 2, mitoses 1).

Invasive carcinoma measures 3mm in max. dimension

There is a distance of approx. 12mm between tumours one and three.

Invasive carcinoma is also present in the separate superior and lateral margins

No DCIS seen.

Extensive background classic and focally florid and pleomorphic LCIS is present.

Margins (including left breast superior, lateral, inferior, medial and posterior margins):

Invasive carcinoma is present at the final lateral margin (tumour on ink), <1mm from the posterior and final superior margins, 1mm from the anterior margin, and is >2mm from the inferior and medial margins.

Pleomorphic LCIS is <1mm from the final superior margin, 1.5mm from the posterior margin and is

>2mm from all other margins. That is the whole breakdown of findings, Tumours are ostrogen receptor positive, progesterone receptor

It probably makes sense to you, I don’t totally understand it all

I think @anxiouslyawaiting asked about your size and type, but all that baffles me too to be honest @nancy7! I was never given such a detailed histology…(I know a fair bit about lobular, as that was my diagnosis but not in that detail).
All you can do now is wait for your surgery results, and oncotype result and hope that it’s low. I’m sure your BCN can help explain things if you need peace of mind. I’m sorry I can’t help you in that respect, but know that we’re here for you and understand how hard it is waiting… take care and please let us know how you get on xx

Thank you Diddy for your reply, I agree it is all a bit much & hard to understand. I was surprised after appointment for results on Monday I wasn’t brought into room with BCN to go through results as I was for the previous 2 appointments & this was the hardest to understand, it was all very overwhelming to be honest results Monday surgery Tuesday. I did speak to surgeon before surgery & he just said it this didn’t give clear margins the next conversation will be mastectomy. I’ll just have to wait until the 9th February. Thank you so much for your replies
