Hi kketchup
I’ve just finished fec x6 after WLE and ANC this summer but live in Torquay so wanted to post so you feel there is someone sort of local out there. Any questions however small then just post or PM and I’ll reply asap. Just off to your neck of the woods today to meet one of the bc ladies for coffee I met via this site who is having her LGFB session at exeter today. My session is booked for 29th Jan and they give help and advice on how to apply eye liner and pencil in eyebrows and also LOTS of freebies. Telephone number is 01392 406154 if you’re interested.
If you read some of the other posts you will see a common thread that the waiting and thought of the first chemo is far worse than the actual event. Take something to munch on, I used to take rich tea and drink plenty of water.
Take care
Ali.

thanks Ali, your post made me sob! So good to know that i’m not alone, and that there is support out there. Will definately get to one of those sessions. Yes, the thought of starting is awful…just want to get it over with now. Have got to go to preassessment tomorrow at the rd&e , so am going out now to spend my last day shopping and treating myself to lunch!!!
Have you got to have any more treatment?
Kathy x

Hi Kathy
have sent you a pm

Hi there Kathy.
The thought of chemo is often worse than the event. You will find that the nurses put you at ease.
I had my 5th FEC yesterday and aprt from having to watch that I don’t mispell stuff in this post, lol, I am generally ok.
Speak up if you have problems with Ses as the guys have loads of stuff to help. So far I have not suffered nausea, I told onc that I didn’t want to and he made sure I didnt.
The best advise I can give you is to drink plenty. Load up on fluids the day before, and then during chemo if you can. It just helps to flush the toxins out. Your wee will turn pink after chemo, thats the E bit, and should return to normal within 24 hrs. I sort of take that as a barometer of how well hydrated I am and my record to having clear wee is about 8 hours. Good grief, how graphic lol.
Try to relax, easier said than done. i take my iPod in as I have found that music distracts me and helps me chill out.
Hope that helps a bit, thinking of you. x sarah

Hello!

I am not a million miles from Exeter and a load of us wicked women are having a meet up for lunch on 15th Dec at 1pmish at The Eagle Tavern on the A303 near Buckland St Mary (which is between Honiton and Chard sort of direction) please come if you are free and you can have a good chat to us all as we are at lots of differing stages from just starting to well finished! Let me know!

Hi, thanks Ali for the pm…

hi Sarah, i am really nervous about being sick so will mention that at my preassessment appt in the morning. Ive got to have 3 doses of the fec , and then 3 doses of the ‘t’. I just want to be able to function, as i’ve got 2 girls to look after ; school runs/ clubs etc. The thought of being bedbound is scary! Thanks for your advice! kathy x

hi ‘lostinfrance’; thanks so much for invite…am hoping that that means i could b functioning by then?!! so scary not knowing how i’m going to react. Shall def let u know if i’m up to it, thanku x

Hello hunni, im also just up the motorway from you, i had my 1st fec 2 weeks ago and it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be, i know everyone is different, i had a snack before i went and took a large bottle of flavoured water with me which i drank, just listen to your body and if you`re tired rest up hunni, i know its hard with little ones, i know im not long into this journey but if you want a rant and get things of your chest ( so to speak  ) everyone will be here for you, hugs julie xxx

Hello again! I am on FEC-T and had dose 3 last Thursday and was buzzing around Exeter today…you will be ok, just believe it! Also if worried ask urgently…no don’t ask…demand stuff called Emend which is the holy grail of anti sick stuff! you will feel a bit odd but you should be up to a lunch out by the 15th…heres hoping…be great to see you!
PS I have kids too and have 8 year old to collect so don’t worry too much!

Hi
I am also from Exeter and had 3rd dose of FEC 10 days ago I have my fourth dose on the 29th December they have given me a week off for xmas or maybe good behaviour lol…
I have to say other than feeling queezy, the odd sore mouth from time to time not bad at all. I had a portacath fitted and that was easy no problems. I am maintaining a reasonable life with horses and dogs so if you have the same sort of time as me its very doable.
There seems to be a lot of us from Exeter we may all end up meeting for a chemo party on Cherrybrook. Arent the staff just great on there so very kind and considerate?

Hi, had my preassessment this morning on cherrybrook: nurse was lovely and i feel a little bit more positive. Am going to friends tonight for meal so hopefully i wont have to think about tomorrow!!!

Hi julie, so good to hear it wasnt as bad as u thought…the imagination runs riot! Have u had any bad sideeffects so far? nausea/sore mouth etc? x

Hi lostinfrance…cant believe youve been buzzing round exeter (there is hope!) . Really encouraging to hear.Ive got my girls prezzies sorted and wrapped up safely in the attic out of prying eyes, so can forget about cmas!!! x

Hi Hatty, i too am having second dose due on 29th so might even cu there. Just abit scared about being neutropenic and getting some nasty infection! I know i need to b positive but i think im going to b a real hypochondriac! Yes, it seems very friendly on the ward x

Hi Hatty…Want to come on 15th too…let me know…will be wicked!

would have loved to and many thanks for the invite but i am tied with dogs and horses. Terry my partner is having a biopsy today and if he has cancer then between us we are in a muddle lol… Have a great time and will be thinking of you all having a smash of a time.

Good luck-from another Cherrybrook patient! The staff are superb, but so very busy at the moment, so go prepared for delays. They do their utmost to get everyone through in good time-but with so many patients and staff shortages, delyas are inevitable. Some days are better than others-there’s no way of telling in advance -epecially at the moment, when there are quite often emergencies who also need tended, in addition to those booked in for treatment. Most of us are patient and accept it can’t be helped, but have heard people complain before now-yes, it’s stressful, but we all get there eventually.

Don’t even think of side effects/complications until (“if”), they happen. There’s no way of telling in advance who will react and who won’t-if you do run into problems there will be plenty of advice forthcoming-but don’t imagine problems on yourself!

Hi all, just a thought
there is no reason why you should have nasty complications if you have been ok so far. Drink lots and rest as much as you can. Try to eat good stuff, as well as cake(my downfall).
Have as good a Christmas as you can
xxxxxx
I have my next treatment on 29th Dec, just had FEC 5 on Monday.
sarah

hi kketchup, i did feel sick but the anti sickness were great, also had sore mouth and eyes and indigestion, think im one of the lucky ones  hugs julie xxx
