Hi Sandra,
I was told to avoid yoghurts and pro biotics drinks while on chemo also, it was because of them containing live bacteria, different hospitals may give different advice though so would check it out with your med team to be on the safe side.

Hi Linda
Thank you l will check with them before l ‘down’ anymore, strange they haven’t told me what l can eat and what l shouldn’t
Hugs
Sandra
Sandra,
did you get a chemo diary on your first appt ? If so it has a list of foods to avoid which is pretty much the same as the one’s they tell you to avoid when pregnant !!
If you haven’t got one let me know and I will pm you with the list that is in mine.
Hope you are still keeping well and se’s not too bad
K x
Hi K
I had a photo copy of a record book, read through it and all it says about food is keep away from takeaways! l will ring them later.
Would love to see the list, if you can
Many Thanks

.
Hi all,
was going to pm sandra with the list but thought it might be better to put it on here. Well this page is entitled How to prevent infections
Avoid
Contact with anyone who has an obvious infection (well that is pretty obvious !!)
Unpasteurised milk and cheese, live yoghurt (so no probiotics girls !!)
Raw or undercooked eggs (maybe we have Edwina Curry to thank for that one !!)
Pate and undercooked food esp chicken and other meats
Take away food
Changing nappies of children who have been recently vaccinated
Getting close to animals and their excreta (posh word for POO !!)
especially cat litter trays and bird cages
Gardening injuries, wear thick gloves
I was also told to avoid spicy foods but not sure why as not in the official list.
Hope this helps
K x
Sandra
I just want to repeat what everyone is saying, I was definitely told no pro-biotic yogurts or drinks, or those pro-biotic spreads (think Flora does one). Have the same list posted above, also remember fresh mayonnaise has raw eggs, so if eating out anything with mayonnaise ask if it’s fresh (jars are O.K apparently)
.
thanks k, thats the stuff i was told tho only verbally, no helpful list.i had a goats cheese and prawn blow out before chemo started, and have avoided changing all nappies as far as possible ( oops, seem to have forgotten abput it being alright if they haven’t recently been vaccinated!)
Bit peed off tonight, had tickets to see comedian john bishop at a very small local comedy club even though he is on telly and doing big venues nowadays, have had to give them up as don’t feel up to it, had to give up my peter kaye tickets a few months ago, par humbug not fair.
Hello Ladies,
Thank you for the information K, have spoken to the nurse on the onc ward. she said it should be no problem to have it! she said just be careful of takeaways! l phoned the helpline and they never knew about not eating certain foods!
But l wont push my luck and will keep away from the mentioned foods, although with two dogs and a tortoise, that bit is a bit difficult, but l always use plastic bags and rubber gloves. Yes l did know about the gardening bit, the bcn went all through that with me, it was just the food and actimel! xxx
Gill, you and me both with the probiotic drinks! so much for that!
Thanks for the pm, yes agree with everything you said. lookout for those pm’s!! No tingles in the head yet for me, but they will come! xxx
Divvy,Goodness me there will be nothing left l like at this rate! xxx
Vickie, And there was someone waiting to make you laugh, and you were feeling too rough to go, poor old you, ok poor young you. perhaps it is a good idea not to get anymore tickets to see anyone for a month or so! Hope you are feeling better very soon xxx
Well l am still good, feel a bit nauseous at times, but that is as far as it has gone, so far! lots of pains in the back, but have been told this is down to the wbc injections, so hope they go sooner rather than later.
Had a wobble today, we went to pick my wig up! doesn’t take much does it! decided l will put the money l would have spent on hair products and cuts to one side and treat the grandchildren when it is all over!
Hugs all around
Sandra xxx
good idea sandra about hair cut money, though maybe you could treat yourself instead!am not too peed off, just one of those things and my friends have gone and its their wedding anniversairy, and they get to sit with my mum and sisters and brother in law, and my mum is cringing at the idea he might be a bit cruder live than on telly ( bet he is too!), still, i get to watch corrie!
I am one of those sad people in life that like to give!! especially to my lovely grandchildren. would get far more pleasure buying them something.
I am sitting watching football! not that l mind it, but it does seem to go on and on, actually hubby looks like he is nodding!! so may be able to turn something else on in a few moments. He keeps asking if l want something else on, but l feel mean as he does love his football. but the eyes are definitely on the ‘blink’!! sleeeeeeep!!! Lol!

Oh Crikey not told any of this and have had 6 x chemos only that I shoulld have a swine flu jab that was back in the winter, rubbish WBC except for GCSF injections so hope all that works and goes well with you all as had I known I would have complied to the letter. Hugs Jackie
i am hungry. this is good news! After first 2 fec cycles i had to force myself to eat for a week minimum, but now day 4/5 i am hungry! New anti sickness meds seem good so far, hurray!i have lost a stone neary since this all started so have some making uo to do!
Hi Everyone,
I’m back on track. I’m sorry I cannot comment on all that has been said while I’ve been wobbling, although I do read a lot, I’m not much good at posting.
Thank goodness we don’t all wobble at the same time (2 boobs, one boob, no boob all wobbling for England at the same time, it does not bear thinking about !)
Sandra, wobble away and accept my hugs, there is even one tucked away with your wig when you get it out next. Leave your OH to watch the foot ball and keep posting here (but mind what you read !!)
Vickie, I’m sorry you had to miss out on a real live show, but there will be another time, I’m sure. And then you will really enjoy it. I’m glad you are hungry now, make the most of it and “Enjoy”.
Well, you have all upset me by banning Probiotic drinks, I started taking then after my op to boost my immune system and have been taking then ever since, no one told me not to and I am still very much alive. First pearly mother was OK, 2nd one not so good, but I feel better now, I am not talking about wobbles but physically.
This is quite an adventure, and I’m so glad I have you lot with me.
Love and Hugs
Maria
Oh No Maria, you have just reminded me, talking about boobs, l am booked to have my silicone one fitted on the 5th July (3 weeks today) but l have my 2nd peachy mother on the 2nd!! will l be fit is the question! really dont want to cancel it, getting a bit fed up with re packing my softie, because it need plumping up! so will take a chance and hope they don’t mind if l have to cancel it at the last minute.
Sandra xxx
That’s the spirit, Sandra. We have a wonderful excuse to cancel at the last minute, to forget things , to wobble, to eat or to not eat pro biotic stuff…all thanks to our friend pearly mother. I cancelled my place on a course for work at the last minute and everyone was lovely and understanding about it.
Hi all
The BCC publication ‘Chemotherapy for breast cancer’ contains some useful information for those undergoing chemotherapy, you can read or order a copy via this link:

Maria-glad you are feeling better
Sandra, I have solvrd the problem in our house about the Telly. I have my own in another room. My OH doesn’t what football but does watch Star Treck and all these old depressing war programs
So pleased you not getting SEs-not even tiredness?
I have not worn my wig for two days-just scarves and my super silk bandana. I have found the wig presses down on my glasses which then hurt my ears. Don’t know what to do about that
Take care
Carolxx
