Wahoo DJ Karen, we’ve missed you! Welcome to the sunbed lounge???
I’d also read that soya wasn’t good for you, but my dad said yesterday he’d read that tofu is good (is that soya I’m not sure) and also a glass of red wine. This diet stuff is so difficult though as you read no dairy, no soya, no red meat, no sugar and you begin to think what the heck can you blooming eat! I was doing the harcombe diet(basically no sugar and no combining carbs and protein) before being diagnosed (she is a bc survivor) and I’ll probably go back to that as i lost weight quite easily and once I knew what to do was fairly easy. I didn’t stick to it religiously as I would have a day off at the weekends and maybe have a piece of cake or fish and chips. I’d also started eating unpasteurised sauerkraut as that is full of probiotics and is supposed to be good for gut health and they reckon that is also really important.
Bean curd/tofu deffo good so I assume soya milk is too. I’ve never been a sweet and sugar person and on the whole eat healthily and Im quite active so often wondered where it came from. Also no BC genes in rhe family but mum had colonic 10 years ago. Anyway, I guess rheres no point in overthinking but just worry for my daughter
To ladies avoiding cows milk/soya milk, give oat milk a try - I moved over to it before chemo just because I found my stomach wasn’t tolerating cows milk very well - never looked back! It doesn’t go well added to hot drinks but then I have black tea/coffee. It can be used for cooking though and of course, on cereal. Even my 14 year old son converted to it!
Firstly though did go over to almond milk - that’s nice but a little too sweet for me personally!
Not tried goat’s so would be interested to hear if anyone has and whether that’s any good added to hot drinks?
Jay68, I’ve been using goats yoghurt in my smoothies but haven’t tried goats milk. I don’t have a lot of milk anyway, just in porridge, and I only drink green and herbal teas no need fir milk with those so can’t help there. The goats yoghurt definitely has a distinct taste but in smoothies it’s fine. I sometimes make my porridge with coconut milk and a teaspoon of coconut oil with some banana, me and OH call it my tropical porridge it’s lovely. For some reason you need the coconut oil to get the coconutty taste.
Coconut milk a d Hazelnut milk is yummy but Ive stopped cooking wuth coconut oil as its used if you want to put on weight and Ive put on enpugh through treatment.
As for alcohol, my Oncologist also said I’m allowed a glass here and there if it makes me feel better. I am Herc+ and if alcohol is not good for me then I’m sure they would say. I don’t drink a lot though anyway. Have had a couple of small Port and wines since I found out my good results! Celebration drinks!
Morning ladies, runnerbean on our Oct thread has come back from rads planning and has had to hold her breath for 20 seconds for the rads to the right side too, new practice, I’m going to speak to my team before I start as didn’t have to do this, has anyone else with rads to right side had to do this? Why aren’t all the trusts following same practices? It does raise the question doesn’t it? Anyway let’s have a bit of surfing USA by the beach boys in the ??rads Sunbed shop this morning, get us ?:female_sign: through the rads ???shi xx

Wow! All this dancing so early!! I’ve got achey legs from a bit of dancing at work last night to karaoke! I went in for 7 hours and enjoyed being out! Drove too but its only 10 mins away and automatic! Bit stiff after resting up for 12 days so it did me good, but I didn’t lift anything with my surgery side!
My onc has brought ny appointment forward due to holidays, so seeing her on 14th to discuss start of rads. This is so like a 6 course Chinese banquet. Rads will be the dessert.xx

Us oct chemo girls have bought a bit of the party over to the rads ???Sunbed shop, hope thats ok, we keep each other ???on this ???shi xx
Thanks Shi for the hints! My friend has given me some natural Aloe Vera gel to put in the fridge and I have been told to slap it on when I get home.
Still need to rest up after op but doing things to keep motivated as my surgeon advised.xx
Signing up here - I start 12/2, 15 days of rads plus boosters for 5 days after WLE.
Had my planning session a few weeks ago so its a long wait - it will be good to get this stage over and done with.
Was interested to read comments about eating/drink healthier - I’ve mostly come off the booze, have switched to unsweetened almond milk and am trying to drink more water. I have managed to keep up my gym routine since recovering from the op - should be interesting to see how I cope when I start rads especially since I also work full time.
Although I’m in no hurry for this to return I also want to live my life the way I want to. I eat healthily and will include some foods which are supposed to be particularly anti breast cancer. Mushrooms black grapes and a few others. I eat loads of fruit and veg anyway . I’m not giving up dairy I enjoy it too much and red wine but only at weekends and in moderation. I’m her2+ and no one has said no alcohol to me. I will go back to eating low carb though except for the odd treat. I need to get OH back on his blood sugar diet so will need to encourage! I’m not going to change my lifestyle radically because I like it as it is and I haven’t gone through this ? to be miserable.
Afternoon ladies, another over from October chemo. Don’t have my times yet but I’ve had my planning meeting and should start on the 19th. I have my moogoo at the ready and will buy some aloe Vera gel before I start to try and avoid the crispy bacon look ??? I have about a 40 minute drive each day so won’t be walking, still a bit breathless from chemo when I overdo things anyway. My new song for Rads is disco inferno can’t get it out of my head today ??? Been practising holding my breath, not sure why no one else is doing this for the right side but I’m just doing what I’m told for a change! xx
