So, I had first lumpectomy on 2.12.25, followed by two further surgeries to achieve clear margins. My armpit was completely numb which is the weirdest sensation ever.
Anyone tried shaving a numb armpitā¦.itās weird, right?
Secondly, the numbness is fading, but with it I am getting more stabby shooting pains! I assume this is all part of healing process but bloody annoying.
Thirdly, Went for a shower this morning and I was freezing. As I got undressed and about to jump in, I caught myself in the mirror and was covered in goose bumps except for a couple of patches across my boob which had no goosebumps whatsoever. Weird side effects from surgery that I canāt show anybody but found very amusing
@vizsla_mum i had a mastectomy and lymph node removal 2 weeks before your lumpectomy and had exactly the same experience with numb armpit. Mine still isnāt right though I agree itās slightly less numb than before. Completely weird when you shave it, yes!! And also Iām having more stabbing and jabbing all around that area. I believe itās the nerve damage caused by surgery slowly healing itself. I still have almost no feeling at all across my scar.
Easy to forget about all that stuff when youāre in the throes of chemo !
Iām not sure if my scars are numb, canāt really bring myself to touch anything yet. It still freaks me out a bit.
One day youāre fine, the next day your nipples are in a different place!! .
Both boobs have been ātampered withā but the scars are mostly round edge of nipples. Everything just looks a bit abnormal but not really happy with the result but Iāll just need to get used to it. Still lots of healing to be done and Iāve still to go through rads, which can again alter things.
Appreciate the efforts of the NHS, this is not a dig at them
Iāve found mastectomy scar has been proper zingy again since the chemo but itās alright, havenāt attempted to shave so currently looking like a cave woman! I havenāt them since November im hoping the chemo will sort them out!
I have been massaging my scar and using a silicone gel and my scar is looking decent, i saw an nhs physio a couple of weeks ago and she gave my scar a right old massage so ive been less squeamish about it since and I see her again just before my second chemo, shes great, advice anyone to seek out physio if youāve still not got your full movement xxx
I have experienced the same, numbness and I get the stabbing pains. Iāve started to massage the Moogoo Udder Cream into my scars and ithe area is numb. Itās such a strange feeling.
Wow so glad itās not just me! Itās so weird, all the numbness. And youāre total right about the biopsies @vizsla_mum. I tried to explain them to a few people but I think unless youāve had one you canāt begin to imagineā¦
Coincidentally Iāve just booked a scar massage this coming week with a lovely female sports masseuse I know. I have almost my full range of movement so donāt think I need physio (Iām pretty good doing my exercises and I also do Pilates which definitely helps), but the scar does pull and jab and feel tight so I thought a massage might help. Iām not very good at doing it to myself (I get bored ). Good to know others have used massage successfully too .
I second that @vizsla_mum My second biopsy which was a vacuum assisted one which was worst than my mastectomy i screamed the place down! They wanted 6 biopsies from my tiny boob!
The scar massage feels great @sam1204 the physio said i was doing amazing but because of the kind of races I do ( a lot of monkey bar type rigs and rings and getting over 8 foot walls) Im still tight across the scar when I try that full retraction back so im going to keep going as it helps xxx
Exactly same here. Very small boob, clamped in a mammogram machine, me lying on my side, local anaesthetic didnāt work properly and they took several biopsies. Sounded like a machine gun! Felt like hell! Was very bruised till they took it all away. Definitely more painful than the surgery.
Yes in terms of arm movement the main thing I canāt do is fully stretch my arm above my head when lying on my back. Hoping with a bit of massage itāll loosen off. Was back to doing decent weight training and Pilates before chemoā¦..am determined to try to keep it up even if itās just once a week (assuming Iām able to avoid the crowds at the gym and minimise infection risk ).
Am surprised how good my energy levels are (so far). Steroids must have worn off as I slept well last night and did another decent walk this morning. Long may it last . Hope everyone else is having a good day xx
I had a lumpectomy and full lymph node removal and had similar weird sensations while the nerves were repairing themselves. After that I had a mastectomy and the other day had a phantom itchy nipple
@sam1204 get a bit of nhs physio honest to god i felt amazing after first session, i had about 40 mins with her and im back again on the 17th just before 2nd chemo on the 19th. I came across a crossfit woman on Instagram who has been incredible and she said get as much physio as you can nhs and/or private and im so glad I have, got my first reformer pilates booked for Tues night! She only has 4 beds so I can chill without worrying about picking up anything xxx
