@gheko I have had my picc line in for a week and only had my first chemo today. My veins are small so this has been amazing for me. Get a shower cover for it as you have to keep it dry. No real issues doesnt get in the way. Only ball ache is I have to do over a 2 hour round trip every week to get it flushed. But everyone has their own views. For me its not a problem. Took paracetomal day I had it in good luck with your first ec Thursday
Hi @bird25 I havent got to this point yet. I did have my long hair cut into a pixie cut in preparation.
Been told my hair will start coming out maybe 2nd cycle. I will be braving the shave as well. My hubby is bald so he said we can twin and my 18 year old son wants to shave his off but said no.
Hair is a big thing but it doesnt define us. So you rock those head scarves and your wig
Wore my wig out Saturday night felt weird so will only use that when Im back at work.
Hey all. ( 2 many names to mention. ). Got my wig today (real hair ). Shampoo /conditioner stand brush. etc €1700 . Also got my radium plan for after chemo. So chemo every 2 weeks for 8 cycles starting Monday. Finishing May 25 th. One month break. Start radium for 3 weeks. 15 lots. So not too bad. I thought it b 20/30 how’s everyone else getting on ?? Anyone starting Monday. I’m traumatized
So today was my first chemo of EC as you know. I am back home (well been back about 3 hours but had lunch) I had a lady called Gill take care of me she was wonderful as I was so upset. Had to have another ecg done (but they did it) as doctor hadnt signed off and computers were down. So Gill did it and took it to him said she didnt want to keep me waiting. My anti sickness was a drip for an hour, going forward they said that would be just half hour. I had downloaded The Crown to watch but Gill was with me for all my chemo as it came in injections that she had to fed into machine.
Im feeling ok. Long may that continue 1 down 5 to go. Thank you all for your kind messages of support and love.
Hi @mai3 I started today and currently Im feeling ok. Ladies were lovely ..
WOW you already have your radiation plan. I have got to be reffered for that mid way through my chemo. Why did you think it would be 20 plus sessions?? If you dont mind me asking. Im hoping and praying for just the 15 (or less) like you.
Ladies on here will give you so much support as they have for me xx
@sammy75 youve got started and it all went well so hopefully you’ll feel less worries going forward. Gotta tick them off ! Sounds like you were in excellent hands and Gill did you proud.
Hey @mai3 you’ll be fine. As many women in this thread will tell you, the anticipation is worse than the reality and once you get started it’ll feel easier. I was dreading chemo as I watched my dad have it for 6 months before he died (pancreatic ) and what it did to him but so far my experience has been quite different, I’ve not felt sick, I’m eating well and have good energy. Second cycle this Friday and I know things might change but I’m staying positive. Worst things for me have been some headaches, steroid-induced insomnia, and feeling slightly below par as far as tiredness goes, but not enough to stop me living my life. Hopefully it’ll be the same for you . Anyway we’re all here for you. We do sometimes have some laughs too as well as doing the serious side of support and sharing info and experiences. So ask away (and we’ll all be amazed how much your wig cost !)
Hi @bird25 mine hasn’t started coming out yet but I know it will. I went for a bob not a pixie but when the time comes I’ll just shave it. I’ve been on Etsy (lovely stuff) and ordered a few different caps and hats including one with a bandana. Only cost about a tenner each. I’ve decided not to bother with a wig - I don’t work any more and if people want to stare they can. I’ve taken the same approach to my mastectomy - not getting a prosthesis and not sticking a fake one in my crop top. I have cancer and whilst it’s fecking awful I personally don’t want to hide it. But that’s just me and I appreciate I’m probably a bit of an outlier . Whatever you choose you’ll work it out
Hi @hopefull60 (love the name). I just decided to do it the day before my 1st chemo, do when it is right for you, I have heard various durations that hair loss starts from day13 to day21. All the absolute best for your first chemo
@sam1204 thank you so much for your kind words. Yes first one done. I was in a room with 7 men all over the age of 70. But Gill made it nice for me. I did have a little cry to start. Feeling ok at the moment. Done a liitle bit of ironing as daughter off to concert tonight
My son failed one majir for not moving his head enough WTF. The examiner said to my son he had done the best drive from a learner that he has took in a while. SO PASS HIM THEN. He is gutted and cant get another test till July. So we have paid £35 for a cancellation notification app. Its my daughters test tomorrow. God help me
I have a fake boob from NHS but brought one from Boost. I dont wear them at all. I will wear when I go back to work as I have a customer facing managers role (well 75% customer facing) and I think my company will want me to present myself in a certain way. I wore it to my sickness review meeting but wont now they have gone to monthly video calls. I will wear a hat not wig for the calls
But currently I dont wear either. I do get scared how my husband sees me. But I know he loves me and supports me. This isnt forever …
