February 2026 chemo starters

Hi @fee4 the injections are to stimulate the bone marrow to make more white blood cells. Chemo temporarily knocks your immune system down, and these injections help your body recover faster and reduce the risk of infection. I think everyone has had different dose or none at all, I had 7 days worth which I had to have from day 3, I wasn’t told about these until chemo day so it was big shock to me! They were fine, if you are given them get yourself some Emla cream (numbing cream) that was a great suggestion from one of the girls xxx

@ariella yes! I started back at the gym (spin classes and Pilates) about 3 weeks after op, so around mid December. Had my first chemo last Friday and I went to Pilates this morning. Put myself in a corner away from others but it’s a very high airy studio so I think I’ll be ok. Found it ok at the time but am definitely a bit achy this afternoon which is a bit different from before chemo. I have noticed some minor joint and muscle aches that I wouldn’t normally expect given my high level of exercise - don’t know if it’s the chemo or the herceptin. I won’t have herceptin again for 3 weeks so we’ll see if the aches subside. Chemo again this Friday. Am booked on a Body Balance class (mix of yoga, Pilates and tai chi) on Thursday morning. Am going to keep doing these classes as long as I can. I’m rubbish at sitting still! Though I’m trying to do that most afternoons if I’ve walked or exercised in the morning. Enjoying the Winter Olympics . Hope your Pilates goes well xx

Thanks lovely, i missed last week as I slept all of Tuesday! Just hope the piccs ok but ill be careful, my scar is feeling a less tight after physio so I know I can push that a little more than I could 2 weeks ago. Xxx

I don’t blame you @sammy75 - I suspect if I was still working I might feel a bit different. Also I’m very small (32B) so it’s not like I’ve ever had a cleavage :joy:.

Sorry to hear about the driving test - it’s a nightmare, my stepson had the same issue with getting a test (in the end he just gave up and hasn’t passed yet). My own two kids passed before covid (which seems to be when it all went wrong) so they’re lucky. Am sure your son will bounce back and :crossed_fingers:he gets another test soon. And good luck to your daughter tomorrow

Thanks! I’m going to see what happens. It’s all too much to take in now. One thing at a time.

Thanks ariella they didn’t say what they were for are you having zometa every 6 months xx

@sam1204 thank you so much

I think so @fee4 my plan is a bit skewed because I have kidney cancer as well, i have my kidney op after chemo then back to my breast cancer treatment radiotherapy and all the other joyful medication xxx

Been thinking of you. I have a strong anti sickness tablet that I have to take an hour before treatment. Interesting how it varies between hospitals.

I hope the next few days are kind to you.

@trixie17 thank you. Hope your feeling well xx

Did the hospital provide the Emla cream or did you get it yourself?

I’ll be having them next cycle but they’ve delayed it a week to allow more time for my neutrophils to recover.

@trixie17 i brought one but then got on prescription from my GP.. but currently not being given them :see_no_evil_monkey: which id rather have them x

All good here thanks. Saw the oncologist this afternoon and we discussed options and concluded it’s best to delay cycle 2 by a week to allow neutrophils to recover some more.

Also discussed that if needs be , we’ll reduce to 6 cycles instead of 8 as I’ll be having targeted therapy anyway & this is adjuvant treatment.

Top tips from me @fee4 for your first TC, start rinsing your mouth with a mix of half tsp salt, half tsp bicarbonate of soda in a water bottle, do it every time you eat, if you get up in the night and when ever your mouth feels yukky this really helped me.

I ate the same food I usually eat and day 3 had a pizza BIG mistake, was doubled up with cramp for about an hour, so eat light and low fat.

Walk for at least 30 mins a day even if you feel like shit, i promise it helps.

Get the water down you even though it tastes awful, ive been drinking about 2 and half litres a day.

I lived on cream crackers, porridge and jacket potatoes the first week.

I honestly feel normal and have been since about day 9
