February 2026 chemo starters

Hi @elisac not got much to add to what others have said. I’m having weekly Pax so can’t have cold cap (no time). Only had one cycle so far but I’d mostly say take something to do/read and if you don’t like hospital tea, coffee and biscuits take your own drinks and snacks! And headphones if you don’t like generic local radio! I had no nausea and was glad I’d had a small breakfast before I went. Make sure you have someone to bring you home after as you’ll feel a bit weird.

There are so many posts on here now it’s overwhelming but best thing to do is if you have a specific question just ask it and even if it’s been covered previously someone will reply! We’re all here for each other as much as we can be (given there’s a life to be lived outside of chemo!!)

It was fab @sam1204 only a couple of things where the picc felt a bit weird but I just adapted, there was only me and my partner there so that was good. Ive got a 2 wk break now because shes away next week and following week is a bit of a yuk day for after chemo. It really helped mastectomy side, got some good stretches in :flexed_biceps:xxx

Been doing some strength exercises at home from that book I mentioned in an earlier post and they’ve felt good too xxx

@sam1204 thank you so much
Didnt want to be that person who freaked out over nothing. Temperature has been holding around 36.4 all day

Im also rubbish on no sleep as it adds to my anxiety. But brought myself a fold away bed for downstairs so I start in bed to try and sleep but when hubby starts snooring  i go downstairs hubby puts bed out every night in case I need it.

@visla_mum. Glad your first treatment went well. I cold capped - it was a weird experience but I didn’t mind it. It’s just all the extra time it takes but worth it if it works.

Hope you’re feeling okay. I found resting and drinking plenty of water seemed to work. First injection this evening which I’m not looking forward to :see_no_evil_monkey:

I’m just feeling a bit yucky! How did you sleep in your first night?

Well done @vizsla_mum first one down and cold capping

Get some rest now. Looks like a few of us wont be sleeping tonight with these wonderful steriods :see_no_evil_monkey:

I had no sleep at all last night @vizsla_mum (sorry) and i took a sleeping tablet :see_no_evil_monkey: got three more nights of steriods too. I drank plently of water and today just had a chill dsy as been raining cats and dogs here. But Miss Motivator @ariella I walked 20 mins in living room

Try and relax tonight

@vizsla_mum I didn’t sleep well at all the first night my mind was in overdrive. Not sure if it was the build up of the day and/or steroids. I slept fine last night though. First night of injections today so no idea how tonight will go

Hopefully you’ll manage to get some rest even if you can’t sleep too well x

I’ve spent a few nights in the spare room after surgery etc. I’m trying to make it into a little sanctuary room to relax in if I’m not feeling too good. But so far have felt fine and not needed it

2 EC down, 2 to go! Forgot about the red pee until I went to the toilet before I left, was quite the shock untiL I remembered!

My first one was in the morning whereas this was was afternoon so wondering if steroids will affect my sleep more - I have an empty house today so no one to annoy me (apart from the dog but she now gets a new bone on chemo evening).

I’m going to have a student dinner of pasta and cheese just because I can :joy:

Hopefully mine will go as well as urs x

I only had one sleepless night which was the night of the treatment. I just had steroids in the infusion and none to take home with me. Got about 3 hours sleep that night but caught up on next two nights. Now I know what to expect I’m prepared (in spare bedroom with books and water!). I hate not sleeping but I guess overall small price to pay.

@mai3 fingers crossed it will. The main thing is to stay as hydrated as you can and rest as much as possible. I’m tending to take it one day at a time x

So, I slept not too bad. I took bucket to bed as was sure i was going to throw up.(I didn’t).

I had drank as much water as I could , during the day but unable to really pee before bed, but I had to get up to pee 5 times during the night to pee!

Weird!

I am feeling less yucky this morning thank God!

Good morning everyone, hope you are all feeling ok. been off the forum for a few days so lots to catch up on

I’ve got my date to start 18/02 and have my PIcc line in tomorrow morning / originally it was the morning before the 1st treatment.

Any hints & tips for over the weekend (I’ve got my shower cover & a soft cover) & then I’ll be in work with it Monday & Tuesday - will it be noticeable underclothes?

x

Morning @daisyd dont panic if it feels a little tender it takes a bit to settle, wear loose clothes if you dont want it to be seen, if you do wear something fitted it may show as a little bump and thats mainly from where they tape up the 2 bits that they attach to the infusions ( dont know what the technical term is for them!) They’re the bulkiest bits! Xxx

Glad you’re ok @vizsla_mum xxx
