Films and TV

Hi everyone,

I find going to the cinema and watching TV and DVDs a great distraction. I’m always on the look out for new films and TV programmes to watch.  I noticed that Scratch on the Bone Mets thread recently recommded Zootropolis. I went to see it today and loved it. It is suitable for all ages and is really funny and clever too. Julzd also on the Bone Mets thread recommended the new Eddie the Eagle film. I haven’t seen it yet but might try to get along to it soon.Tonight I will be watching the last two episodes of Game of Thrones series 2. Can’t wait! Anyone else seen anything good lately. xxx

I’m afraid I’m not a film buff as I can’t sit still for long!
I like old movies like old Hollywood ones with Doris dayetc. At least at home I can pause a DVD or freeze on sky box!
Both my son’s have really enjoyed the new star wars film but its like marmite …love it or hate it.

I am the same can’t focus on films or books at the moment and it frustrates me so much as I used to always have a book in hand. I love old black and white films too, my most favourite is Harvey with Jimmy Stewart . I loved it so much my son bought the DVD for me so I still can giggle at it! There was a film some years ago with Patrick Swaze and Wesley Snipes called if I have it right Too Wong Foo and thanks for the memory Julie Nemar, sorry brain freeze at the mo but it was one I watched with my daughter which made us laugh and cheer, I know most people would say Dirty Dancing but believe me Patrick Swaze and Wesley Snipes make incredible looking women! what a good question it’s certainly brought some good memories back!!

Hi

If you can concentrate on a book I can recommend ‘The little coffee shop of Kabul’, written by Deborah Rodriguez. Nice little read.

Hi

I think you can get it on kindle, my friend got it after I told her about it. I’m still on paperback lol.

I’ve struggled with reading since Christmas, too much stress and things going on. I’m a lot calmer now. Apt on 14th April to see if Letrozole is working, but think it’s too early to know. I’ve only been on it since 4th March and had bloods done Tuesday. Had headaches, achey bones, stronger Tropical moments’, but am hopeful things will settle.

Enjoy your read if you can, I couldn’t put it down.

Take care x

Hi

i enjoy the books by Dianne Chamberlain.   Easy reading and each story has it’s own little twist.

Hiya. Must confess I read rubbish. Danielle Steele, Susan Lewis etc BUT I bought the new book by Sophie savage …the cancer whisperer. I’m half way thru it and its padded out to fill pages but I’m hoping to get some inspiration as I progress.it’s beautifully written and an easy read but will I cure my cancer by reading it? Don’t think so. Will keep u all posted.

I have just read the review for the little coffee shop of Kabul, I will download it later, it sounds like a good read. I always used to fall asleep reading at night so it will be a good way of nodding off again.

Carolyn your our photo is lovely, it’s nice to see you.  Would be interested in your review of the cancer whisperer but not sure I will read it.

I find it it easier to concentrate on my teenage girls rubbish books at the minute … Who doesn’t want to read  about olly Murs and little mix ?. X

That’s why I read rubbish. Can’t concentrate on thrillers or who done its!
Olly murs …that’s a good relax book.

Hi

I’ll check out Diane Chamberlain sounds right up my street. Michael Murpurgos an easy read. I’ll look out for Cancer whisperer too. My friends bought me books on BC and BC connected to Iodine but all a bit deep and serious for me at bedtime. I used to like Danielle Steel too. Hope you enjoy Coffee shop in Kabul.

My usual oncologist said 12 wks to find out if Letrozole is working, but saw his boss last time and she said she’d see me sooner! But am sure it’s too soon as only been taking it from 4th March and had bloods done 29th! I think you’re right with 3mths.

I’m still ploughing through this cancer whisperer book…not sure what inspiration I’m supposing to be getting from it yet. I don’t normally get into these sort of things so it’s a bit of a new challenge for me but after I saw the author on breakfast tv thought I would give it a whirl.

It’s so nice to have waitress service in a cafe when its hard to carry coffee etc when I have my crutch but we have been lucky with m and s haven’t we as good staff. Monday’s still looking good.
Just stopped by your new flat …it’s going to b so nice for you there. you just need the legal stuff completed soon.
I haven’t been cinema since I saw mama mia which was yonks ago!

I’m in a book club, seriously recommend it!

We could start a virtual one here if we like.

Phillippa Gregory? Classics, I decided I want to read more Austin or Eliot etc before I go.

Hi Samantha,
What a great idea! I 'd love to be in a book club. Anyone else want to join? xxx

Excuse me gatecrashing but why don’t you set up a new thread here " book club" and then post your reviews on books you are reading etc.
I’m sure there would b a lot of interest as so many of us secondary ladies do read a lot.

Hi ladies, I’m not a great reader so can’t really contribute…but must say I enjoyed the Fifty Shades of Grey books! ?.

TV wise I love Law and Order SVU, and Criminal Minds is also good. Movie wise I enjoy stuff that makes me laugh, Rush Hour, The Heat (soo funny) .

Janette xxxx

Jeanette … you are so like me. Love the rush hour films and the heat too. I read rubbish too…don’t like anything I have to concentrate on ! Still often play dvds coyote ugly, mama mia and dirty dancing when I need to chill out.

Are you a letrozole lady as well? not keen on Luther although he’s very popular …but fond of Gerald butler ( ps .I love you and Olympus has fallen both good films) still don’t mind Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham …
No we can still look and dream !!

I am a big fan of Jason Statham too Pretty much like all his films except Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrels.xxx

Hi ladies, not posted on here for a while.  I’ve just finished watching the first series of Happy Valley on Netflix and agree it’s brilliant! Sarah Lancashire is a fantastic actress, can’t wait to watch the second series.

Has anyone been watching the new series Brief Encounters?  It’s set in the 80s and has some really good 80s music thrown in…well worth a watch!

Went to watch Ab Fab last week at the cinema, it was ok but not as funny as I thought it would be.
