Collaborator - woman who slept with enemy and after war was over had hair roughly chopped off. I did my own hair hence collaborator look. They were sometimes tarred an feathered but I’ve not gone that far. Might save me being indecisive about jacket though and going out in odd shoes.
I’m in the growing old disgracefully camp too. I’d rather be a dire warning than a good example. I can only find a few dangly earrings and they’re all odd ones so I’ll try the odd earring look to complement my shoes.
Sooo funny! having been throwing up every 45 minutes through the night, I am looking and feeling a bit rough! (understatement,) however much better that 12 hours ago!! OH done all the housework so the best bit of the day so far wa answering the door to the postman… I don’t know who got the bigger shock ( he is regular postie, young chap) him or me when I realised , hey I’ve just answered the door with my head…well not with my head but you know what I mean!!! Jxx
I had mine shaved off few days ago. I had some hair loss but I wanted to do this before more started falling out. Probably the decision is the difficult part.
Anyone seen/heard of that film called splice? I look so much like the girl in the film! LOL! Well still have some humour left in me! I shall take a pic when I feel better:)
I hope hair would start to grow back soon after chemo as I am planning on keeping it shaved for a while thereafter to encourage it tad bit more!
I went commando out of doors for the first time today for my chemo 2. I’ve got a thinning grade 3 all over. I channelled dangly earrings and plenty of eyeliner and I think I got away with it
Oh! Ninja, I also went commando for my FEC2 yesterday. It was so much more comfortable, though I was the only commando in the chemo unit. Its interesting how your scalp is soo warm yet your body gets so cold during chemo…
On the other hand hubby said I look like the bald kid from the last airbender, Adding it to my list of lookalikes!
Ladies let`s always remember that with or without hair we are all beautiful:) and our golden or brown locks will show themselves soon enough
I was the only person commando in the oncy room - the others had varying amounts of hair or a wig. Then again, I was the youngest one in there…maybe the older ladies would find going without their ‘do’ to be a bridge too far for them on top of all the other distress.
The nurses complimented my on my scrape. Maybe they were being kind as they’re used to seeing my with long blonde styled hair…
I’ve only seen one other going commando in the chemo room as well and I agree it’s probably an age thing - even at 45 I’ve always been far away the youngest in there.
On my first visit I thought eveyone else had hair until the nurse told me most of them were wearing wigs. Now I’ve got my eye in I can spot a wig at 100 paces but it just goes to show how most of the unitiated can’t tell the difference.
am now 2 weeks past fec1 and yesterday my hair started to ‘thin’, every time i touch it more comes out, OH and son are waiting for me to give the nod and they will have fun shaving it!!!..today i’m sat here with a pretty scarf on getting use to the look. Not sure if i can go for the big dangle earrings… i hardly both with any earrings normally!
Mmy facebook status today reads…“roll up roll up get your hair souviers here, only avaible while stock lasts!!”. one friend said she didnt want it as its too gray!
Hi all and thanks for some great tips and for making me laugh. I’m waiting for my hair to fall out and i keep tugging at it but it’s still there at the mo. Have been wearing scarves around the house so I can get used to the way I will look. I also have a lovely wig which looks loads better than my actual hair and doesn’t have white roots! My daughter said we should give it a name and came up with Hairy McClary which isn’t very complementary but is very funny cos when you see it on the floor by itself it does look like a dog. My dog growls at it and is very scared of it. She just can’t understand why it doesn’t bark at her or eat her treats!! But I want to wear the scarves and hats most of the time cos I’ve spent so much money on them!! Don’t know wheteher I’ll go commando though as my girls are teens and don’t like the idea. The youngest one says I will look like Voldemort!!!
I’m just waiting to see!!

Thank you thank you all for the laughs. I’m on day 14 Fec1 and have also been tugging at my hair for days and it’s still on my head. Thought the lady garden might thought it was autumn but only ‘normal’ shedding. I too have been practising with scarves to try and get used to the look. Haven’t got used to it. Dangly earrings at the ready hats bought, wig waiting. !"£%^&*( formerly know as Ermintrude (my wig) is roosting on my tiger on the chair in the bedroom looking menacing. I just love the dog barking at your wig. Thought I’d stick mine on top of those hamster things that Kids have and let it run around the room It’s nice to have a pet.
Have told my family that I’m the only one allowed to make jokes about it. They have to keep telling me what a ‘lovely shaped head’ I have and how I have a startling resemblance to the beautiful Sinead.
Oh dear hipchick, a lovely shaped head AND looking like Sinead? It’s only two more steps down the slippery slope now and you’ll have really joined the club…
…If you want full membership you’ve also got to be told that you’re brave and then also that you’re inspirational.
And just think, a few more sessions of chemo and steroids and you’ll be able to join us in our Matt Lucas lookie likey competition!!! ( I can hear your whoops of anticipatory glee from waaaay over here
At least I think (well, I hope) that the dangly earrings have prevented me from bearing too much of a resemblance to Uncle Fester but I’d have to let others be the judge of that. And then of course there’s Zippy…
Well, on your photo you loook lovely, but I can understand the trauma, Ive got this to come as I start treatment next week. This will make you laff though- before I came to work today I decided to shave one of my eyebrows to see how it would look ( I dont have much hair to my eyebrows anyway) I then began to pencil it in as best I could… not bad I thought, and the guys at work couldnt tell the difference. I do dread the clumps of hair falling out though, but its got to happen, and as you say if the chemo does what it should then your on your way!!! GOOD LUCK, take care and you know what they say… Get Better, Not Bitter, as there is always a bottle of wine to be drinking…x
Outrace, sorry to disillusion you but my photo is the lovely Sinead. Not yet been told I’m brave or inspirational but have been applauded about my positive attitude. Must try harder to get the set. I’ll practice my saintly look in the mirror and wear floaty clothing.
When I’m bald I’ll have a go at recreating the Sinead pose and see if anyone can tell the difference.
Hey hipchick, I with u on the Sinead part, I have been likened to her re nice shaped head, eyes and eyebrows, i had waist length hair then had cut short, i did as u have, i was tugging at my hair after first fec wondering, is today the day it goes, i kept my hair, periods, nails and eyebrows. now im about the start TAX on Tues next week and my nails and eyebrows and lashes may go. hair went before fec2, it began to moult,so took the plunge and Sinead imerged… was better to shave as the moulting was distressing, not as bad as the first cut from waist length tho… I have my bald pic on facebook and on my sponsorship page but not on here yet as u can see from photo… just wanted to write and share that with u as u are mirroring how i was feeling re Sinead…lots of love, Shar xx
Hipchick, I am soooo disillusioned that it isn’t you! Was so impressed with how cool you looked!
I am a little further down the line, FEC finished January and have, oh, at least 1.5cms of hair now.
Two doorstep stories.
Had my hair loss in the depths of winter and had a fetching beanie with F*** Cancer which gave me backbone on tough days. Was wearing it one day when the doorbell rang and remembered just in time before I opened the door, and twirled it round so the words didn’t show.
Opened door last week to a “friend” canvassing for local parish elections “Oh, you’ve had your hair cut” she said-as if anyone would cut their hair this short apart from Sinead. Lost a vote!
Hi lavender. I want one of those hats! Don’t think I should wear it to school though. Half the kids in my class can’t read, but I bet they’d read that!!
I’m still tugging away but not moulting yet. In a funny way I can’t wait for it to go, yet I’m dreading it too!
Hipchick, I sing too much to the embarrasment of my kids, usually in the supermarket. We should form a duet sometime!!!
Just had a thought, I play the harp at weddings in a ballgown. Gonna look very scary with no hair. I guess I’ll have to wear Hairy McClary. Very tempting to whip him off in the bit where they say “if anyone has any reason…”
