I’m not going to persevere with the scalp coolers. I don’t tolerate cold well and I was shivering during chemo, despite 2 blankets and three heat packs and it made me feel weepy and thoroughly miserable. That coupled with greasy hair that I can’t wash much, headaches etc etc means that I’d rather have it off (ooh-err missus).
I’m going to have it off too. Cut my shoulder length hair myself 4 weeks ago. Copied Emma WAtson photo but sadly didn’t look much like her, or the lovely Sinead either, more like a tranny. I was amazed how much of it there was. Do I shave it off before it starts to come out or do I wait? Day 11 of FEC 1.
Well, I will be clipping, not shaving. Have you ever done any errrmm… ‘landscaping’ of your lady garden in the past? Barber’s rash is going to be an avoidable extra here.
Edit: arrghhh. I just went to peg out and when the wind caught my hair, it hurt.
Landscaping my lady garden, or topiary as we in the trade call it, is a hobby of mine. Hearts very easy, but a bit twee. Landing strip looks good but a bit too many Nazi overtones, Brazillian too Paedo, so I’ve settled for the natural bush, with just a little trim on the inner thighs as the hairy fringe doesn’t really go with my red Italian bikini.
I shall clip as shaving verboten due to possible infection risk. When I’m done I shall howl to the moon, weep and wail and gnash my teeth, then get over it.
I had mine clippered off at around day 14 as was coming out in handfuls & such a sore scalp, I then wet shaved the rest about 10 days later & painful/sore scalp now not a problem.
Ninja, lady garden vanished 1st for me, few days before hair started falling from head, am awaiting fec 6 & eylashes & eyebrows made a bolt for it between fec 4 & 5 although i do have half an eybrow on 1 eye but am afraid to shave it off for some absurd reason.
Hipchick, i dont look very Sinead O Connor either, more Matt Lucas, shame as the 1st 2 of my 4 children are called Sinead & Connor, should of called the 3rd & 4th O & apostrophe
Sarah
Love the name links -brought a smile to my face; glad you still have a sense of humour too in this tough world of hair loss. It does grow back so hang on in there (I’m on third regrowth and it always excites me…)

In the words of Mr Brightside, I have “taken control”.
I decided to do an “out, damned spot” to my falling hair. I started by hacking at the long parts with scissors. Just then the doorbell rang - the loss adjuster for the car insurance for the break-in 2 weeks ago. He didn’t mention my hacked hair, but it much have looked weird. Actually, it looked bloody awful. hee hee.
I am now the proud owner of a grade 3. And no tears yet…
I have just had a no 2… and it looks SO much better! I shall go egg-head more often I think… doesn’t look any worse than the scarves/buffs/bandanas! Just a warmth thing sometimes - oh,and I still love my little cotton sunhat with hearts from Annabandana (to my surprise!) Useful in the garden for protection… copying Choccie (I think) and exposing the white of the egg(head) to soft sun for short periods to see if it turns into a brown egg! Too soon to say, but I’ll have a go!
Hi everyone, just thought I would add my bit, I started to loose my hair just before FEC2 and had it cut from waist length to short and i hated it with a vengance!it started to moult after a week and a half and that was awful so my hairdresser god bless her came back to my house and shaved it off so now I am doint my Sinead O’Connor and right now have some lovely black patches growing back but sure it will soon re fall out! I know its hard i truly do but i know now its done i dont have to do that part of the bc journey again, and I have been very luck with my wig - Lola she is called. I wore her the other night and a friend told me the next day that someone had commnented on how well i look and “she still has all of her hair” i was so pleased cos Lola is very like my own hair but i yearn for the day to feel the wind in my hair again. i have been advised to shave it off when grows back as will be full of chemo and to also exfoliate my scalf and massage with almond oil and to use the excess on my nails to keep them nourished especially for the upcoming TAX next Tuesday… i have so far managed to keep my nails long and strong plus eyebrows and eyelashes! hope it continues… my lady garden tho gone gone gone so saves maintenance!!!xxxxx its a tough journey totally c***p at times and thats being polite but glad we are all here to lean on for support it really does help. keep posting everyone - all my positive thoughts Shar xx
I just went to fetch in the washing. I accidentally caught myself in the reflection in the window. I’d forgotten how short my hair is now. The scraped head and the dark shadows under my eyes made me look like someone from a concentration camp :o(
my hair was due to be choccie’d that is attacked with a bic coz it’s so sore but after FEC 2 today can’t be bothered, feelin too rough!!! on a posotive hair note my little boy (many of you knoe he’s 9 years old and autistic) i’m lying in bed looking and feeling rotten, no hat or wig and he brought the wig to me and tried to put it on my head put this on mum he said you look beautiful when you’ve got this on…bless… now that’s progress as he would usually say you look horrible bald!!! thats an autistic kid doing his best to be sensative xxxx love to all j xx
Aww, J that’s so cute! And I’m impressed that I’ve turned into a verb, very cool, that! (MILES better than “doing an SB”, woodlanders know what I mean, if you don’t know, don’t ask…)
I wet shave in the shower, when it starts to get spikey. And someone asked me if I was sleeping with Mr Sheen, my head’s so shiny. Definite snooker ball.
I have been toying with the notion of decorating it with henna, I think that could look very chic, but I’d have to choose carefully who I’d let do it - I can just imagine what my kids would do if I let them loose on my baldy head, I’d end up HAVING to wear a buff or wig all the time, just to cover up the rude comments they’d write!
50something, did you get any good pics of your hubbie? I definitely think you need to arm yourself with some suitable amunition, just in case…
I still have the ‘collaborator’ look as haven’t had the courage yet to go for the buzz. The dangly earring tip is a good. My wig lady told me I should be wearing bigger earrings. More of a discreet pearl girl but will go hunting for some big dangly jobbies. Spotted some 4" long on ebay. Too dangly?
Ninja, you seem to have your enlightening moments when you’re pegging out or bringing in. I have mine whe I catch sight of myself in the kettle.
My kettle doesn’t do that - it one of those new colour-changing LED ones. I love it, although I haven’t found a mojito hiding inside it yet.
I have taken the advice and fetched out some dangly earrings. My ears are double-pierced (I got the second hole when I decided to grow old disgracefully when I was 40) so currently I’m channelling the hippy social worker look, which is better than Belsen refugee. I’m expecting the house purchaser’s surveyor today so I’m going commando in public for the first time. Hope I don’t scare him!
4" hmmm. Sounds good to me but try to avoid the Pat Butcher look. What is the ‘collaborator’ look?
