hair loss???

Hi Susanne,
Totally opposite of me too. The only exercise I have is walking round Tesco. But after the past year I think I can tackle things, I wouldn’t have dreamt of before or can I? Who knows?
Andie, just down the road and we had a few spots. I’ll look out for you paddling past!
Kathy

Katemate, what a shame you can’t go never know they might ask you next year? (if they haven’t forgotten about you!!).

Well BCN has been the MX I am having looks well to be quite honest FAB !!!
I am totally gobsmacked by the pics I saw.
What he does is removes the nipple and scoops all the breast tissue out of that hole !!!
gets the muscle/fat from the back tunnels it through and then plugs it back up and later (now I have seen this and it looks amazing) makes you a nipple by the round plug is tattooed then he gets the skin folds it on itself and sews the nipple so it looks like a nipple, and it looks really good I suppose I was most bothered about not having a nipple.

But I might have to see the onc about my legs/feet she said " i’m not saying they will cancel your op but he might want to see you first"
So don’t know there is a chance that my op might get put back??
She is telling him when she gets back to the hospital.

So cos of the way he does the surgery I won’t have any visible scars!
Told you he was out of this world!!!.
I think I am getting quite excited now! (how odd is that?)
well thats all my news.
ANDIE changed my pic again as my legs/feet were not nice to look at!
This one is me and Owen . love caronxx

Caron, that was the biggest worry for me, not having a nipple. didn’t know I was that attached to it! I’m not sure if I’m gonna go down re-con route now. It was the most important thing to me at the beginning but now after several appointments with maxilofacial dept at Georges, they have done wonders and made me the most fabulous false nipple! Its so lifelike you’d never know unless you got up really close to it and as I don’t really intend anyone to do that it’s not a problem! I was lucky I only needed a lumpectomy but had I had full MX then i defo would have had recon, preferbly at the same time like you!

Lost nail number 5 today!

Is anyone else suffering with dizzyness? I’m a bit concerned as my dizzy spells seem to be getting worse and yesterday I couldn’t stop falling asleep. I haven’t been that bad since chemo! I think it might be tomoxifen, will call BCN at some stage! Hope it doesn’t spoil my girls day out in Bicester on Thursday, I’m in desperate need of some retail therapy!!

Did anyone see that really brave girl on phillip and Fern this morning, she was modelling MX swim wear, and she looked fab!

Gail, did you get e mail i sent as one bounced back at me today, just wondered if you got everyones details i sent on Sunday?

Jo XX

Jo,
that was the biggest part for me too the nipple (how odd!) apart from the hair of course.
Dizzy spells yes lots of them too !! Victoria had to catch me several times lol.
Also shaky legs BCN said the worst SE from tax is the weakness in the legs, so asked her if being wobbly was normal and she said yes.
But like she said everyone is different and might get different SE from me and I might not get some (well too late now Ive done it!) and I seem to have had every SE possible!!!.

Done lots of washing today cleaned the house spotless as BCN was coming.

Ive only got 1 nail left on one hand now and thats coming off so don’t feel alone!.
read on the home page that they have identified a gene responsible for making IBC spread much faster so Shelly might want to read it?
anyway take care love caron x

JO
sorry yes I saw her she did look fab !! and I thought it was good about the false boob that had the groove in it so the water can drain out (if you have been swimming) anybody want more info check thismorning site and on to swimwear and link to eloise.co.uk/ they specialise in MX etc .

love caron

ps I do find when anyone of us ask’s a question we do seem to put our own thing and then not answer, as we forget I think, we will all have to try and make the point of answering.

How longs it take to have the pre planning (for surgery) thanks x

Caron
What do you mean pre planning? I don’t think I had any.
Jo X

Dear all,

Just thought I’d write up an account of my special extended week-end when Caron stayed and we had our tea at the Grosvenor…

On Thursday, our first evening we went to Covent Garden, first for an evening meal - we chose an Indian place, which was not very good in terms of food, though expensive ( I was expecting this to be the case as the restaurants in the theatre district have a captive market and can rely almost entirely on passing trade). And after the lukewarm, and a rather insipid chicken Korma we went on to see a performance of Susan Hill’s A Woman in Black at the Fortune theatre. This remains a favourite play of mine – and I was pleased Caron liked it too. We paid for good seats in the stalls – but there was a tallish couple in front of us (middle-aged boss obviously taking his PA out for the night etc) so Caron had to crane her neck above them – as they spent most of the time in a cinch!) But getting back to the play… if you haven’t seen it and love a good old fashioned ghost story set in the 1920s with a spooky house etc, then this is the play for you. And we loved the ride home afterwards in a black cab: we felt like princesses and thought that London looked lovely at night…

Once home Caron initiated me in the modern age of technology: I learned all about Professor Leyton and his brain training, and the DS Nintendo. Caron brought hers down from sunny Grimsby to show me – along with one of her special strawberry Nesquik cakes filled with cream and jam and covered with white chocolate. We disciplined ourselves of course, not wanting to add too many more ‘chemo pounds’. But the cake was ‘oh so nice’ with a late night cup of tea – before we went to sleep dreaming of the day…

Friday morning, and I was up early to ensure Caron had a special breakfast: waffles with maple syrup and blueberries, inspired by the kind of fare served in New England B&Bs. OH looked on rather enviously while he munched away on his usual bowl of cornflakes, eyeing up Caron’s tray as I took it upstairs. Still enthused by thoughts of our previous evening, we couldn’t wait to launch Friday. And in effort to cater for Caron’s interest in anything to do with murder, blood and gore I thought I’d take her to the London Dungeons. In the event however, we ended up going around The London Bridge Experience by mistake, which I have to say, looked the same from the outside in terms of signage etc and was almost directly opposite the London Dungeons. In fact, it wasn’t until after we’d gone through the exit and I’d commented to the ‘greeter’ outside about how the place had changed beyond all recognition from my last visit about four years ago - did we learn from him, that it was actually a different attraction altogether. With a real sense of glee in his voice he said that the ‘London Bridge Experience’ had recently beaten the London Dungeons in terms of scare factor in a review of city attractions. However I disagreed that overall it was a better attraction. Whereas the dungeons are at least informative about the history of crime and punishment in London, the London Bridge Experience lacked any real substance and seemed to play on cheap thrills, actually very cheap thrills with actors dressed up as strange ghoulish figures jumping out at visitors, under strobe lighting. We ended up leaving less than halfway through the visit, as not only was the place quite boring but it was also potentially dangerous. At times the corridors were in pitch darkness and there were obstructions along the path that were easy to bump into, including models of decapitated heads suspended on threads from the ceiling, as well as uneven floors, and a step that had no proper illumination. I think there were some real issues with health and safety there.

After lunch in a pub near the railway arches of Borough Market we spent the afternoon on an open-top bus tour of the City. This was enjoyable, and I must say that it was quite fun for me to feel like a tourist for once in the town where I live! And it was good for Caron as it meant she could see the sights without taking an arduous walk around the city. After the bus tour we went to an Italian / French restaurant opposite London Bridge Station – Caron and OH opted for steak and chips whilst I chose pasta in a tomato and basil sauce (the boring option!). The evening saw us all eating more of Caron’s special cake – and we went on to watch Lakeview Terrace (a good thriller with Samuel L Jackson) on Movies on Demand. More cake of course in the evening (spotted this duplication Caron - but leaving it in as a reminder!).

On Saturday following our scaled-down full English (including ‘London Rich’ sausages we’d bought the day before at a delicatessen located in the vaults of London Bridge Station) we went on a river trip from Westminster Pier to Tower Bridge. It was lovely weather and the boat stopped opposite the Tower of London, in time for us to see the 21 gun salute to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday. Caron was most taken with the ‘fly past’ overhead, and it was at that point I discovered that she was interested in old aircraft and that she used to enjoy going to air shows with her father. We really wanted to stay on the boat as far as Greenwich and had applied our sun block at the ready - but we’d have been late for our get together at the Grosvenor hotel (unthinkable of course), so we’re saving the second part of the trip for next time!

On Sunday morning, complete with Caron’s bright pink suitcase we went off by taxi to the Dennis Severs house, the time capsule house, near Liverpool Street Station. Once owned by a family of Flemish weavers, the house includes the letters and curios of a bygone age, and is meant to elicit the feeling of the family still being in residence: you can almost hear their voices in the next room, and the remains of their supper is still on the dining room table. There is the scent of clove studded orange pomanders in the bedrooms and of cinnamon sticks in the kitchen. The house was fascinating, but once again there were some awkward stairs and uneven floors to negotiate amid the atmospheric gloom. Following a drink in the pub opposite the Severs house it was time to go back to Kings Cross and the train journey back to Peterborough – where we said good bye.

I had a magical weekend, but it has taken me this long to recover, and I cannot wait for us all to meet again – in the Autumn – what do you think??. Now of course it is back to plain clothes and porridge, but at least I’m going on holiday next week – to where I do not know…. but I shall let you know once I’ve been there!

In the meantime I am thinking of…

Gail and her uncanny resemblance to Jennifer Saunders (including her wit), sparkly hair band, and the kindness expressed by her silver hearts for us all

Andie whose hair is longer than she thinks, is slimmer than she thinks, and is a gifted card maker – as her cards have the capacity to cheer up the start of the worst day on taxotere (and soon to be invited to tea)

Caron with her ruffles and frills, wonderful made up words… pippas for slippers, mashbo for mashed potato, sandshoes for thank you etc, who writes such animated posts about fish and her family, and who has given more ideas about what to serve for dinner than any recipe book I own (hope your legs reduce in swelling soon)…

Jo who looks as if she’s stepped straight out of Breakfast at Tiffany’s: cool, sophisticated and elegant. The scarf looked far more fashion accessory than anything else.

Kathy with her wonderful curly hair that most people would envy and may even ask their hairdressers’ to copy, and who has the capacity to stay bright and happy despite the dramatic changes in her personal circumstances.

Shelley who shows no bounds in her bravery: you looked great in your photos.

Love Bright x

Jo sorry probably said it wrong you know when they get you ready for surgery weigh you blood pressure check etc…

Victoria
you write wonderful you really do.
professor leyton is a different game to brain training but I can see how you got mixed up as your not familiar with it.

I also brought Victoria into modern age by showing her the ipod and how many songs it can hold (it can also hold photo’s & games)
Also wanted to point out on Friday don’t let Victoria fool you we never had 2 pieces of my cake (I think Victoria is getting too excited thinking about my cake!).
And also it wasn’t the Queens official birthday it was her unofficial one as her birthday is later in the year when it is colder so she wanted a birthday in the warmer months ( I thought you being a cockney (or nearly lol) would know that.

But we did have a fabulous time and it’s just what the DR ordered after 6 months of chemo !!!
love caron xx (again)

Quite right Caron, I’ve just gone back to correct a few typos in the post - but left the mistakes. You have a beady eye. I should also add that I am most impressed with the MX and reconstruction your surgeon has planned for you.

Bright x

Hello ladies,
I’ve been having counteless probs with my PC. Just keeps losing internet. Posted to you all the other day and then lost it…sigh!!!

I’m OK, but very very tired. Having a restful day today as have to take kai to town tomorrow to buy Daddy’s birthday and father’s day stuff! Also off to see my dancing buddies tonight. We have a big show every year which I am missing this year and it’s the dress rehearsal tonight. Will be good to see them, but I will be sad I’m not jingle jangling along with them.

Kathy - Ouward bound?? Are they mad? The nearest I could get was the shopping sprint I did in Oxford street last weekend. Lifted, pushed, queued…so tiring! Did help my self esteem though!! Loved your hair by the way.

Jo - have continued to experiment with head scarves as was inspired by you looking all chic. I look like a cross between Frank Spencer and a 1950s housewife. It’s not a good look. is the ring yours yet?? I am really tired at the moment and not sure whether that’s Tam or rads or both! I have been more prone to dizzy stuff since I started all the treatment. Sometimes I think it’s the drugs etc (not that kind!!) and sometimes I think it might be my blood pressure dropping. Make sure you are drinking (not wine)and eating lots!

Bright - you should write for publication!! You are so eloquent! I think meeting again in Autumn would be a great idea.

Caron - They told me the planning meeting would be between 1-3 hours. I think it was less. I saw a nurse who did all my checks (blood pressure, heart, etc)and then an anaesthetic nurse who covered that side of things. It was straightforward and OK.

Thanks for the info about swimwear. Need to order some for my 2 week hol in Fuerteventura at end of July!!! How lucky am I!!! Steve says he will be looking after monster lots so I can rest! RESULT!

Much love all and to “Super-Shell”,

Gxxxx

PS…
Jo - I haven’t had an email. Maybe I wrote it down incorrectly? Can’t pm you at the mo as can’t get into my account on here!! Will try again later.
Gx

Hello everyone!!
well BCN rang me this morning (only been waiting 2 days!)she says she has spoke to onc about my legs/feet and he says I should be having water tablets, she says they are very strong so should start weeing lots, I said I did notice I have not been weeing much.
She then said “OHHH have you had a blood test lately”?
So now I am thinking why did she say that? cos she was deffo responding to what I said.
Anyway I have got the pills now (only 1 a day)

Steve is a hero as he took chloe uptown anyway he heard this flapping and a swan was coming in to land (only it must have been a really stupid swan !)
It landed (sort of!) and flew into the bridge and got it’s head sruck in the bridge so it was getting strangled ppl were walking past so Steve grabbed the swan released it and ppl came out the nearest pub and everybody clapped !!
See Gail ive got one too ! lol
very tiredf tonight i took Bettt out for a walk !
first time we only went round the block but i enjoyed it really
much.
right i write tomoz love caron xx

Oh - I just wish my OH was a hero too. Quite amazing Caron about the swan, and just to think Steve was walking past at just the right timr to rescue the bird. I love swans. There is a garden with a lake near where my parents live which is open to visitors for a few days a year. Most of the time the gates are closed: they are wrought iron and they have as a motif in their centre two swans facing one another, and which form the shape of a heart. I have visited the place once on a hot summer day in a year which I cannot recall because there is no significant event to which to link it. But I do remember it as a special time, especially seeing the water birds and taking tear on the lawn.

Having gone to work for the last three days I am feeling so tired. So I am off to sleep too.

Hope everyone is okay.

Love Bright x

Ps I think I may be starting to get the hot flushes now, not very nice. Strangely I also have times in the day when I also feel really cold.

Bright, Flushes are exactly that I’m afraid, freezing cold one minute, roasting the next! Get yourself a cardy,it’ll be off and on all day but you do get used to it!

Caron, wot a hero Steve is, i’d be terrified of swans!

Sweet of you girls with lovely messages about my headscarves, but still really wish I could go without but alas have bought 3 more scarves yesterday!

Well, went to the Doc’s about my dizzy spells and really wished I hadn’t! My GP thinks might be a side effect of tomoxifen so thinks dose might need to be tweeked but has refered back to Marsden. Spoke to BCN yesterday who told me straight, I’ll probably need a brain scan! Well I didn’t see that one coming, you could have knocked me down with a feather!!! She said I’ll speak to ONC and see what he says, then she phoned back 20 minutes later and told me I have an appointment with Onc at 0930 on Monday morning! So now I’m really really worried! That’s a bit quick don’t you think?

Tried to cheer myself up after this news, and as I was in Bicester on a girly shopping day, I shopped like I’m never going to be able to shop again!!! Shopped my sox off in fact till 7pm last night! Think I’m going to spend day in bed today to recover, but hope I sleep or all I’ll do is fret!

Hope everyone else ok
Jo XX

Oh dear, Jo - we panic if we have a long wait, and we panic if we get a quick appointment! Do hope everything turns out OK for you.

Jo
I know it’s hard not to worry but it is probably the tamoxifen, they are probably being on the safe side, and they have to get you in quick (just in case) but I very much doubt it would have jumped from your bust/ nodes straight to your brain.
How big was your tumor? and how many nodes did you have?
Try not to worry (easier said than done i know!)

I have very EXCITING NEWS TODAY!!! I have 3 lashes on my left eye and more than 6 on the right!!!

My flippers have gone right down already!!
and I can nearly sit on my legs now so it must have been the water like I thought it was.

Steve said, he should write the queen a letter about her swan that he saved,he said he should get a knighthood!!! lol

Right I will write later love Caronx
