That’s brilliant news Pam - you must be feeling really good.

Thanks ladies…The last 8 weeks has been a blur …I’m now awaiting appt with oncologist for Oncotype testing to see whether chemo is necessary …we’re staying private for that as it will be quicker…at least I can now look forward …yesterday surprised me and the hubby as i was only expecting my stitches out.

Emily T - are you having one lumpectomy or two … why not just choose to watch anyway? ??? xxx

Strudel - ??? I’m with you, why cook if you don’t have to … ive definitely got out of EVERYTHING this year as op is only 3 days before … I shall sit patiently with my bell ?? xx

Hello All.  Been back to see the surgeon today, one week post op.  She wanted to check the wound as apparently when she opened me up I had a big haematoma from the guide wire - the radiologist had two goes to get it in the right place, then the wire wouldn’t come out, so he had a third go!! She was really pleased and to my surprise removed the dressing and the steristrips too. It feels really odd and I’m walking round holding my boob because it feels like the wound will open up.  I only have one long wound as my tumour was fairly close to the lymph nodes she removed, but because it’s horizontal the weight of my breast feels like it’s pulling on the wound. Feeling a bit brighter, but did cry when the surgeon asked me how I was feeling emotionally - I was just about to say ‘a bit fragile’, but before I could open my mouth my husband told her how bad I’d been over the last 48 hours!  She was so lovely, gave me a hug, and said all these feelings are completely normal at this stage, with all the anxiety about results etc.  I again brought up the issues that had been raised regarding a suspicious area in my other breast, and she said that she absolutely trusts the opinion of the radiographer that assessed the MRI scan, and I must try not to worry!  I will have a follow up MRI in 6 months.  I also asked about the oncotype testing, and she said it’s not always appropriate and we will talk more next week.  Are you having this done privately Pam?

Jane - huge big hugs. There was me having a temper tantrum and you are not having a good time & you still comforted me, how are you today?

Pam - it’s good to hear that you are up and pottering, that’s what I am hoping for in a couple of weeks - I am also having a SNB.

My Christmas dinner is always cooked by hubby and I normally do all the pots, so the kids are going to do them for me - I love Christmas, it’s my favourite time of the year.

Good morning all!

Strudel - I have an appt this Friday, 16th.   Surgeon was hoping they’d have been back last Friday, but said the pathologist wanted to double check some results, so unsure what that means at the moment.  She has said that if the results are back earlier she will ring me.

Good morning ladies … everybody sounds ok
Silver - what time do you go in on Tuesday? Do you have the blue dye injected on the same day or the day before?
Jane - hope your recovery is going well, how are you feeling?
Emily T (don’t know why I keep putting the T … lol) did you have a lovely day yesterday with your sister?
Also Emily T, I was having brain fog cos I know you are waiting for results so don’t know why I asked one lumpectomy or two …
Strudel - how are you? Are you ok? xx
Silver - do you have a spare pair of tough pants? ??
Sarah
xxxxx

Sallyann - my tough pants are huge and elasticated, there’s plenty of room in here for you and anyone else.

It must seem like forever till your operation - I’ll be able to tell you all about it and you will be even stronger than you are now.  We will be part of the one boob, blue flat chest club.

I’m going to give you an image now - my boobs are 44 F, they hang to my knees nearly, can you imagine how weird one on its own is going to look.

I hope you are o.k.?

P.s. I have to be at the hospital for 7am on Tuesday. My pre-op is tomorrow at 10am. I think they inject the blue dye on Tuesday.

Hahahahahahaha silver - I love your descriptions!! I chose mastectomy cos not enough boob for lumpectomy … lol … couldn’t imagine what it would look like (thinking a very flat Yorkshire pud)
Seriously, another lump was found on MRI behind original lump so just thought “whip it off”
Yes, it still seems forever till “the date” … I go in the day before for the blue dye and my pre op was about 10 days ago … hahaha
I am feeling better now as had loads of family to visit … sons and mum and dad
Hubby cooking a lovely Sunday roast so I’m feeling good
Hope everybody else has enjoyed their Sunday

Hello Sarah (sallyann43) - thanks for asking about me - I’m ok. More sore now the dressings off and lots of sharp pains, think it must be nerve endings moving.  Just anxiously waiting for biopsy results this Friday. Had a lovely day as oh has taken his parents down to visit our daughter in London and to go to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.  I didn’t feel up to going so my son came to babysit me for a few hours!  It’s his birthday tomorrow so we went out for lunch, just to a local carvery, but it was nice having mother/ son time as it doesn’t happen often.  Can’t believe my little boy is 27 tomorrow!  He’d been teaching at one of the Birmingham hospitals so was able to call in on his way back to Liverpool.

Strudel, how are you feeling - have you got a date for your biopsy results. I wish they had been able to test the lymph nodes during surgery like they’re doing your’s Emily, at least then you don’t have to have another operation, if they find any stray cells.

Not put our tree up as we always waited until after our son’s birthday - not that it matters now he lives away from home!  Just managed a short walk with the dog - still struggling to reach down to pick poo up and hold dog in one hand.

just made a cup of tea, so might try and wrap some gifts up, or might have a nap!!!

hope you have all had a good Sunday, so pleased the tough pants are back - as you say, it really helps that we’re all in this together.  We’ll have to have a virtual party when we’re all up to it!! ??

A positive start to Monday!

Well, a bit of a miracle happened last night, went to bed really anxious as noticed a small bump at the end of my wound, and had previous issues with dissolving stitches, I then struggled getting off to sleep which usually isn’t an issue.  My usual sleep pattern since diagnosis has been that I fall asleep easily, then wake between 1 and 2.00 am and can’t get back off to sleep…

Last night i slept from about 1.00 am until 7.00 am - that’s 6 whole hours.  Do I feel better for it?  Not at the moment!

Good morning ladies,
I am currently sitting in the reception at the hospital as I am an hour early for my pre-op. I’m never sure how heavy the traffic will be.

I’m going to people watch for a while.

You slept well Jane, I bet it’s made you feel heavy headed & a bit sluggish.

Hope everything goes ok today Emma.

Strudel- how’s your armpit today? (I don’t think I’ve ever asked a lady that question before).

Thanks Ladybowler- I’m pretty sure that is what they said they were doing to me - will get it confirmed today.

Emily & Sarah - hope you are both ok?

Mysti - how are you, are you ok?

Love how we talk about tits and pits when we’ve never even met ???

Silver - report back in after your pre op
I was thinking to myself last night, we haven’t heard from mysti for a few days … how are you mysti?

Oh and my life is full of Em’s … daughter Emma … daughter in law Emma and now two new Ems … haha
xxxxxx

Hi Ladies,

Pre-op sorted, my blood pressure was high, which worried me because I thought they may not do the operation tomorrow, but she said they would do it anyway, because of the type of op I’m having and they would put my blood pressure down to anxiety, had my blood taken and heart checked - everything o.k.

I went to see the Lymphodema Nurse, who measured my arms - just incase I swell!

Then I sat in a lovely room and the Physio Nurse and then my BCN came to visit.

All my questions were answered and as I hadn’t really got passed the ‘I have cancer’ stage, I didn’t know what would happen when I had the mastectomy, so this was all really encouraging.

I can have a bath - mustn’t soak it but it doesn’t matter if it gets dribbled on.

If all goes to plan, I can drive in 2 weeks.

My drains should be out in 3-4 days - maximum of 7 (although it is rarely this long).

It is compulsory, for husband, partner or any member of the family to take you our for dinner (and can be done with the drains in, if you are up to it)

I’ve already got my appointment for next week for the result of the SNB - although the nurse assured me that at the moment they have no reason to think that there is anything there, unless they find microscopic cells, which they will then remove in another operation. She told me that if they thought there was anything there, they would be taking all my nodes out tomorrow.

I will be fitted with a soft false boob, when I come home on Wednesday (although one look at me and we agreed that I might need one and half) and I will get sorted for a synthetic one next Thursday.

I feel like I have just been in a whirlwind - but a lot more confident now.

I hope all you lovely ladies are o.k. today?

Wow silver what hospital are you at, they sound so on the ball it’s unbelievable!

I’m at work but can’t concentrate so I came on here. Enjoyed a laugh at the tots and pits ?

Wow silver - I’m glad I know you ?? none of that happened at my pre op so thanks for the info!! I was in, waited and out in 15 minutes … bonkers! xxx
