What alot has been going on since my trip to the cinema (hospice on Thursday…keep up :o) I went to see Majestic Hotel with Judi Dench which was really good film to see for an afternoons entertainment. Now I know where all the pensioners go LOL Jenny said she thought I was the youngest one there…
Glad u have stopped lurking Gel, welcome :o) we are all here to help one another out, so don’t be shy. It is a constant reminder to me of how lovely people can be and certainly helps when/if i am on a down day, which to be honest I am not generally, can’t afford to be really as I’m out so often. My quiet week has just been totally booked out again, Lunch tomorrow and just now I have had a call from the lady I gardened for 8 yrs to come out to the poshest restaurant on Wednesday :o) :o) :o) so really looking forward to that. It overwhelmes me totally, being told you will be dead in a few weeks and 2 months on living the life of true lady that lunches. Its hard sometimes, I do worry about being stuck in seats etc but that is all really. I hate to rely on people, even now it irks me not to be independant and its a hard lesson to learn.
Glad everyone has had a good day, I will not mention the weather REV, promise, if it sends you to do housework it must be pretty grim…LOL
Its katherine house I am going to Cackles, its about 4 miles up the road for me, so close enough. I am looking forward to it really, just a bit like you all describe, I guess. So if they grab me and lock me in, I think I will have enough UMPH to escape…just :o)
Off to eat my Tea now, nicely cooked by my XOH, I was totally exhausted by my visit to the pictures as I had to climb lots of stairs.
Clare I really can’t keep up with you! Another good day. Keep them coming!! I’m looking forward to seeing that film on Wednesday.
I have heard nothing but good things about Katherine House. Grab whatever they have got on offer and enjoy being pampered.
You are taking “ladies who lunch” to a brand new level. You’ll have to give these Oxon eating places marks out of 10 so I’ll know where to go for some good food. A bit of what you fancy does you good as they say. Lots more good days coming your way now that nasty cold bug is behind you.
Make sure you get some zzz time in to recharge your batteries. :)x
Nice to see some of the lurkers coming out & joining in! Welcome…come on the rest of you…come & say hello to us!
Another good day for you Clare…go girl! Makes my day seem very dull (mended the bed & cooked a very large pot of chilli). My friend Cheryl enjoyed visiting the local hospice for some pampering & socialising before her time came so enjoy your visit…I’ll come break you out if they detain you against your will!
Off to the hospital tomorrow morning for my portacath insertion. The surgeon rang me today to check that I am ready & was asking if I wanted to be knocked out or just sedated. I checked with ChoccieMuffin who showed me her port last week & have decided to take the cowards option of being unconscious whilst they poke around in the veins in my neck & chest! No breakfast for me then
Will try & have an early night I think. Really enjoying having hubby up here with me this week. I get very lonely when he’s away.
Revcat…hope the sun shines for you too…but bet it only does when you’re working…lol!
Alto…ooh…muffins…making my mouth water! I’ve got an urge to do some baking now I don’t have any work (I did ask but they said no to me working during chemo). Must rummage in my cooking cupboard and see if there’s anything within the use by date!
Ok, I’ve got to confess, I’m another stalker who’s been reading this thread since it started. It is inspirational and it is the first thread I look for when I come on here. I am amazed how much you still get upto Clare and I’ve enjoyed following you. Long may it last. I have lots of claredrops in my garden as well.
I will continue reading this thread with interest. I must confess, I am an avid reader of bench lands as well…
I appear sometimes, does that make me a part time lurker? I confess that I have also been here and reading since the start and love hearing how much Clare and everyone else has been up to, I was just a bit shy about butting into the thread.
Makes me feel like a regular couch potato hearing how much you are out and about Clare, long may it last.
Alto, all this talk of baking cakes has me drooling at the memory of your Lemon Drizzle cake xx
Welcome weme and you too beachwalker, I wondered if you were still lurking on the thread and now I know! Glad you’ve joined in the thread now and hoping we’re still ok for Wednesday lunch.
Blimey Clare, I love to be a lady who lunches but you beat me hands down! So glad you are having really nice days though and that sleep seems to be getting a bit better too.I’m sure you will find the hospice very welcoming and calming and hope you get some lovely treatments from them too so that you can re-energise for all your outings.
Twinky, I had my port put in last Monday. Wasn’t given the option of being knocked out and in fact wasn’t even sedated as they couldn’t get a vein to give me tranq! Not the most pleasant experience fully awake and with it, but been through worse. Quite bruised and a bit sore now but otherwise everything ok. If I can get through it awake you’ll be fine asleep. We will be glad to have had it done when we go for treatments though, don’t worry it is quite a routine procedure for the medics.
Rev, despite having had a nice weekend the weather here in Sussex today was dull and grey so you are not alone! Hoping to see some sunshine later this week.I like bright days but not hot ones so spring usually suits me better than summer However, now I have solar panels I am delighted to see the smallest sign of sunshine!
Hope all the contributors and the lurkers here have a good week, most places are meant to be mild most of the week so hopefully we can forget all thoughts of housework and get out and enjoy ourselves.xx
Revcat, i believe that Scotland is going to get the best of the weather tomorrow, whilst it is going to be dull and gloomy here! my long day at work so I don’t really mind. Clare, your social life is wonderful - how great to have such a marvellous circle of friends, some from years ago. I am ashamed to say that I am not good at keeping up with friends …must try harder! Have a lovely rest of the week everyone, especially you Clare when you visit the hospice on Thursday. xx
Well, Gel and Weme have come out of the wood work now - a big welcome oh and Mary Grace has joined us - bet there’s loads more of us lurkers out there having a daily peak to gain some inspiration from you lovely ladies. Come out and say hello?
See what you’ve started Clare? I can only thank you from the tip of my tingling toes to the top of my baldy head! If I’m feeling down about all this rubbish then you can soon cheer me up. Just felt a little guilty taking advantage and not thanking anyone so bit the bullet and ‘logged in’. Anyone know how long it takes after docetaxel for the tingling/painful feeling in fingers and toes to fade? Its driving me bonkers and often prevents shut eye. At least my nails are getting better.
Clare, what a busy week, enjoy, enjoy. Hope the visit to the hospice goes well as I’m sure it will. When I was primary diagnosed a visit was suggested but I declined - bit worried and had every intention of making a full recovery - then came secondaries and I’m still reluctant. I know, I know, its just me. I’m still in denial! My sister works at Hospice in the Weald and I’m happy to visit there but only as a staff visitor and it is a lovely place so I should know better!
Am off to the docs tomorrow for another sick note and feel a little guilty. I do feel up to work, well almost, but my family and friends have persuaded me to take a little more time off to enjoy feeling fitter, get a little stronger and wait for side effects to reduce further. Plus we plan a couple of hols since last years summer hol was cancelled as my chemo couldn’t wait. Hope I don’t blush too much.
Well time for my ovaltine then bed for me.
Hope you all have a lovely snooze and a good day tomorrow
Donna
Clare don’t worry we will help with the break out if you do not like it. A few bald noisey ladies who hold no fear of the medical profession any more can soon spring you. If we laugh too much they will get rid of us anyway! ( All said by the coward who was such a whimp she didn’t dare disturb the lymphoedema nurse to redo the tape that the cardiologist took off. ) to be fair our lymphoedema nurse is a physio and one look would send anybody running!!!
Twinky I have a really good big sledge hammer in the garage if you would like it wielded tomorrow. Take every knock out drop on offer. There is nothing wrong with being signed up to the Whimps Charter. I wish it was about when I had my Hickman.
Hugs to all
Cackles
Had a snoozy evening, although just watched a whole programme of grand designs, which was inspiring, it kept me awake.
Glad the lurkers are coming out of the woodwork, its such a great support for us all. Twinky I will think of you tomorrow (the no breakfast bit) sure the portacath will go like a breeze :o) I hope it does and by the sound of it you won’t know till its over anyway, best place to be!!!
I am very lucky Moser, I know to have such lovely friends, they must be suckers for punishment LOL. To think I would never had known all this if I had popped my clogs over christmas, what a waste. I do value them all and I just hope that I could have been able to be that kind to any of them if they were in my situation. I must admit I did put myself around a bit, I would never not talk to anyone and there is only 1 person in our village that I have fallen out with but that was over her suggesting a rather large lady friend of mine at garden club, should not be the one to eat cake but it was ok for her and everyone else too. I just saw red!!! she never even knew the lady well. So I took her aside and had a very patronising talk with her and she hasn’t spoken to me since LOL. Not sure she will be in the Q to take me to lunch :o)
Hope the sun shines on you tomorrow REV and i will not discuss such ‘english’ things again if it drives you to housework.
I’m not sure I’d be your ideal spokes person on the eateries of oxon Janipi as I tend to grade them on, whether they have low or high chairs and will I get up the steps LOL. All the places so far have been up to standard in both food and chairs :o) I will just ring ahead to Otters in Deddington (wednesday) to see if they have chairs with arms and I will bring my cushions.
Sleep well all, am hoping to have a lovely sleep like last night, as I hope you all do. Fingers crossed
I’m sorry but having read everyone’s posts over the weekend I just have this vision of Clare being trapped in the hospice revolving doors and beginning to get anxious…
so when she begins to call I can hear women from all over the UK attempting to rescue her and release her from the whirling doors!!!
It has a very happy ending of course and Clare is duly rescued but in fact Clare actually wants another whirl through the doors and waves off all her rescuers for another ‘play’…
Sorry for such rambling (after a couple of beers!) but I know we’d all be there to help Clare extend this fabulous playtime.
Like others have stated your vivid tales of ‘lunching’ help us be there with you. Sorry but we’re stalking you in more ways than you think!!!
Lovely that this thread is so upbeat with all its sightings of Claredrops and our need for advice from the expert. We want our Claredrops to multiply and grow and fill our lives with that delightful icy-white beauty for many years to come…
Hoping Clare that you’re snoozing easily with echoing snores from the Claredrop clan. Goodnight all.
Well my friend, I for one think you deserve all the treats you’ve had and those that are yet to come, you too deserve the lovely friends you have. The villager who no longer speaks to you doesn’t know what good company she’s missing, silly bat!
Your lunch date on Wednesday sounds good, I’m sure you’ll have fantastic food and a great afternoon.
Good luck for tomorrow Twinky, and your first chemo on Wednesday.
I’ve received my appointment for the results of my op, it’s Tuesday next week. So not too long a wait, but the waiting is torture.
Lurkers, it’s so good to see you here for Clare, the more the merrier. This is the friendliest thread and compelling reading, we all like to hear of Clare’s exploits!
Hope you are tucked up in your super bed Clare. Enjoy your lunch tomorrow, catch up with you later.
Hi everyone and especially Clare - you do make me laugh with your expressions, and make me smile with your joie de vivre (get me!). I’m just hoping this gets made into a film, called of course, Clare’s Surreal World I’ve decided I’d like Angelina Jolie to play my part, not because I look anything like her but after a hard days filming what could be better than going back to Brad Pitt?
Have a fab day, all the ladies what lunch, and all the rest of us what don’t .
Nicky xxx
All the lurkers are declaring themselves, really shows how inspiring you are Clare!
Have a good day, use your spoons and have a few ZZZZZZZZZZ when you can fit them in!!! xx
Clare what are you doing talking to the Rev about the weather. Now she has got the backing from above and it is dull here because it is only a few miles from you!!! Do I have to do the housework?
Just off for blood tests pre trial. I must find more coins for the car park before I go. There is nothing worse than finding a rare place, it is pay and display and you only have copper in the bulging purse.
Enjoy your day
Cackles
Who can we get to play Clare? (Since Clare would be executive producer - with her rise-and-fall-go- everywhere-bed!) Obviously would have to be someone who could convey a real character with a great sense of humour. What about the ex-OH Clare? George Clooney?
Well cackles, I am trying not to speak about certain things with the rev, I know she has a little divine intervention, but even she can’t organise the w…r to that extent.
Hope they find a suitable vein in which to take blood. I for one wouldn’t mind finding a few coppers in my bag, they say they are getting younger…suits me fine :o)
Hmmmmm a film :o) now that would be good, George Clooney, I suppose will do, but do I have to fall out with him??? shame to waste an opportunity.
My sister would have to have someone beautiful and skinny, as is her ambition, she’s blonde so I’m sure we can think of a suitable candidate.
Who will you have to play you Laurie??? gotta have a GSOH as everytime I see your pic it makes me smile…
We will have to sort out a cast to start the proceedings…
Just waiting for my walkies man for the doggie then I shall attempt another shower to be ready for my poker man at 12 o’clock. I must tell you all about him later, he is the kindest heart I have met in a very long time, we have been playing for about 5 years and I helped him through the horrific break up of his 28 year old marriage. He also has been a loyal friend over the years too. We skype and play at the same time, so chat to him most evenings when we play.
Opps here comes the walkies man
Hope everyone has a good day…minimal housework too.
Thinking of you Twinky…Go girl !!! Hugs for hubby too :o)
Cackles… if only I had that much influence! But if I had I wouldn’t waste it changing the weather.
Clare’s Surreal World… great film title. So would I have to be played by Dawn French (vicar of Dibley)? Don’t look anything like her - saw her back in 2005 at the Make Poverty History rally of women clergy in London… 200+ women in dog collars, plus a few women rabbis, singing hymns at the end of Downing St and tieing (sp?) white ribbons to the railings. That was pretty surreal! Good role model on the chocolate diet… not!
Have a great day Clare and everyone else lurking or posting.
