ANd WHY am I planning to bake a cake for my onc for that day - he couldn’t eat the one I took to my last onc appt as it was a fasting time for him…

big hugs sal x
Well, that’s the planning over today, tiny tattoos in place and rads start on the 13th (at least it’s not a Friday). Am braced for the daily commute, although the hospital’s only a couple of miles from work and I’ve bagged the last slot of the day.
The only way I can think of to vary the journey is to mix up the means of transport, i.e if it’s Monday I’ll go by bus, Tuesday a skateboard (I’m kidding), Wednesday a Harley Davidson (I’m not kidding).
Really feel for those who travel miles daily to get their treatment.
Sal, I’m going to try and get to the gym this week, too, and fully expect the same results. Don’t know how rads are going to affect any attempts at fitness. So we’ll see.
Hi All
went for xrays yesterday and had my tattoos done. start rads next wednesday, 12th nov. thought tattoos would hurt, but they didnt. now we can get started, 4 1/2 weeks worth. over in time for christmas.
keep you updated.

Hey Ladies,
Sorry not been about, just come on and read and then log off, actually rarely on the PC at all these days. I know what you mean Sal about running around, I don’t know how I ever worked full time.
Good luck for today Td and good luck to everyone else.
Today will be my 4th nuke and it isn’t going to bad. The place is bunged though, there are 8 booths and they are full constantly. Got told off yesterday for moving.
They were lining me up for the machine when I realised my fly was undone, so after the machine did the first blast I thought I’d sneak quickly and do it up but they have cameras outside and they had to realign me all over again. Felt like a naughty child but they laughed when I told them it was to fix my fly cause they hadn’t noticed, so I won’t be moving again.
I’ve started to volunteer at my local CRUK office so was up yesterday and amde some thank you certificates, was nice to feel like I am back in a the real world again.
My lymphodoema has flaired up really badly, it is very painful when I try to fully straighten my arm and the exercises and sleeve don’t seem to be working. I saw the physio yesterday and had to get a bigger sleeve but it was just a sore to get on as the smaller one. Ah well will keep moving it and exercising to see if it helps.
I don’t know about you but my whole body has swollen really badly and if I try the slightest bit of activity I get very out of breath and tired, not good.
Anyway must go deliver daughter to mum’s and then hit the road, only 40 mins to the hospital and have been driving myself, just so I can shop if I want LOL.
Lisa do you think you mite have a build up of fluid …see doc or onc and see if you need some water tablets…I am as i think i might have some water retention …i cant bend my legs without it hurting as if skin is going to split…
with the rads i’v been drivig hour there and back …its ok at the mo just hope i can keep doing it as i dont like to rely on other people …and O/H is back at work even tho he would come every time i like to so with my Aunty but she dont drive but she is good company…
hey Sal and all swollen ones, the other thing that is useful is fennel tea for getting rid of some fluid. Not as good as Medication though! Also, Massage can be great if the practitioner knows what they’fe doing…
Hi all, have now had number 6 of 30 and didnt realise that there would be a bit of swelling so glad its not just me. Had to wait an hour today and found that stressful needing to get back for my boys. Has a WLE and boob getting a bit tender but thats all so far. Booked in to see the nurse each week as well on Mondays.
Just following Lisa about (you can’t escape Lisa!).Last chemo due tomorrow and rads planning appointment next Friday. Looking for tips. Will make sure flys not undone, wear plenty of cream and will ear something comfy.Anything else
Tricia

Thought I would join you all here as I know quite a few of you. Well two rads down - machine broke first day and have had my appt moved to 5pm today due to machine maintenance. Not looking forward to driving to city at rush hour. Ive decided to go early and have my tea there. I could do with a tent outside!
Tagging on here, I started rads on Monday, having finished Epi-CMF on 7 Oct, will have 15 rads over 3 weeks. They’re putting a ‘bolus’ pad over the breast on alternate days to concentrate the rays differently, didn’t fully understand why. I had a skin-sparing mastectomy and immediate DIEP recon in March, 3/27 nodes positive, ER+ so have a prescription for Tamoxifen but dread it so am leaving that until rads are finished.
I’m using E45 cream 2-3 times daily as recommended by my chemo nurse, left bra off today and more comfortable without though I’ve been wearing sports bras since the operation. I think the pink scar where the nipple was removed (and skin from my tummy used to fill the gap) looks red tonight, but it isn’t really sore yet.
Kept waiting 30-40 minutes and have been in a different booth each day this week, funny each team has said, “See you tomorrow”, I guess it’s habit. The rooms seem terribly cold, glad to have a gown that poppers open from the shoulders so not too much is exposed.
Review meeting after tomorrow’s session, I don’t really have any questions for them. At least I’m only 12 miles from the hospital, though it still takes 50 minutes to get there for 09.30. Next two weeks are later morning appts so the journey should be quicker. And I got a weekly parking concession for £3, instead of £3 per visit, a great relief.
Good luck to all of you, as they said it’s another security measure and has to be worth it.
I started rads last Tues. Im glad you highlighted about the ‘bolus’ pad as only on Friday the radiographer explained to me that the rectangular square pad that theyve been tapping over my scar is because my oncologist has asked for a higher dose to be given there. I have this every day. The oncologist did warn me before I started that the wound will probably open up by the end. Have you been told this too or do you think they are just giving me the worst scenario? Ive given up wearing my bra too and need to get some more cotton camisoles as I find these them comfortable.
Couldnt believe that you have to pay to park at your hospital. Terrible. I have to travel to the city hospital but in the oncology suite they waive the car parking fee so I havent had to pay any charges since starting the chemo. I would of thought this should of been the norm for all cancer pts.
Two down, thirteen to go… wondered about fluid retention, glad it’s not just me, thanks for tips.
Apparently article in Sunday papers (I think the ST but not sure) about the wondrous properties of aqueous cream. Grab it while you can, girls, it’ll soon be flying off those clinical oncology shelves!
Agree parking should be free. There are 4 short-stay spaces for radiotherapy patients at hospital, and 3 linacs going full blast so parking can be a bit tricky. Not an issue for me (on skateboard, helicopter, Harley, camel etc… oh, all right, I mostly cycle) but for those travelling some distance and having to negotiate congestion zone it must be an extra stress.
