Is anyone else sick of adverts on telly

Hi all
I am so sick of the cancer advert on television is anyone else or is it just me having a grumble
I am sorry in advance
But they mostly seem to be followed by dating over 50
I mean how crass is that
Thanks for reading

I have had to come off social media as every third post was about cancer or wigs!!

Yes, I felt the same when I was diagnosed 5 years ago. It all felt very raw and insensitive - but of course they couldn’t possibly have known at the time. I had to turn them off and distance see myself. Worse was a colleague turned up wearing daffodil broach for St. David’s Day which was the last straw for me! I bought him a leek broach instead- which he was delighted with! Hang on there and do what you need to do to keep your own sanity.

Hi Thalia. Your post made me laugh, I had been thinking exactly the same thing, since I was diagnosed, everywhere I look seems to be adverts about cancer. I’ve decided it’s because the adverts didn’t register before because I was not personally affected, but now it’s at the forefront of my mind, every reference to cancer sparks an alert.

Hi, the cancer adverts I could just about cope with. It was the funeral adverts Thea really got to me.:grimacing:

OMG I know what you mean, it’s because it’s on our minds all the time & we don’t need reminding do we? I think I’m gradually starting to put the fear to the back of my mind & tell myself there is no point in worrying constantly, the cancer may not come back, if it does I’ll cope with it then, no point in living my life in misery & fear. All the best.

I totally agree with you. I’m also at that stage now but going through chemo last year and every advert in the afternoon was about funerals.:joy:

@thalia Yes so true, they seem to be on all the time.

I also think that TV programmes or films need a warning if someone is diagnosed with cancer as it can also be a trigger. The number of things we have watched and gone ‘not again’. They warm about violence, s@x, etc why not cancer.

It’s everywhere isn’t it, trying to ‘move forward’ and there are constant reminders.

Yes - when I was going through the diagnosis and treatment myself I hated the constant reminders . I remember when I was studying for a degree a lecturer said that there is a particular fault in our culture ( he actually described it as mad and not in a good way) in that stories and images of hardship and suffering are often juxtaposed with very trivial stuff . Most of the time we don’t pay much attention but when it affects us personally we become sensitive to it. Xx

I find them hard too!
The worse for me was the bloody waiting room in breast clinic waiting for results… they were coming on tele then with a lot of anxious faces sat around… :see_no_evil:

I agree and I’m sick of those ads with neat little flat scars and flowery tattoos, that’s not my experience, my scars are very ugly with puckered skin and hollows, just awful I can never let anyone see me without clothes again or at least my bra and a prothesis on.
My breast surgeon has offered a tidy up op but I opted for a double mastectomy to not have to go through 2 ops and here we are !!! Going flat is not what I got and potentially I may never get those neat flat scars they show !!

Me too, and who makes these adverts? The cancer ones are monotonous, and who would sit in a bath, or crawl about in a loft and discuss planning a cremation, I ask you, crazy.

Hi thalia.
I felt the same when going through treatment, everyway i turned, it was cancer related. Everyother add on F/B seemed to be cancer related. When i was going for treatment, soon as we turned on the radio in the car, cancer advert !! It’s always there, but seems more noticeable to us guys.

I can relate . About 10 years ago a young girl knocked on my door wanting to sign me up for monthly donations to cancer research . She was bright optimistic and bubbly all of about 20 years old and without an ounce of sensitivity or empathy / intuition . She took my silence for wonder and went on about the improvement in survival rates for childhood cancer which is of course amazing but unfortunately a friend of mine had died from metastatic brain cancer of unknown origin the previous day and her being there at that time felt like the worst joke. Part of me wanted to give her a huge pile of money and the rest of me wanted to scream and cry - so I shut the door on her .

I was so angry , I couldn’t believe that they could send someone like that out to do that job.
