Yes I was wondering about the flu jab too, am planning to ask onc about it when I see them next Wednesday. Will let you know what they say.
Thanks Tatyana for the advice re the salt wash for mouth yeah, I thought with flu colds season approaching should be be given the jabs also our close family don’t want to get that whilst having chemo!
Angela agree with you regarding steroids ugh! No sleep last night bound to catch up on me!
Still lying in bed! Going to get up and have some food and a drink don’t know about you ladies but I’m finding water drinking a chore it tastes vile
Mishy18
Lots of love to you and your family.xx
My chemo nurse told me to book in for the flu jab…so it’s all booked in for Saturday.xx
Yes water does taste vile, all my life I thought it didn’t have any taste at all, who knew! I’ve tried adding lemon, lime, all kinds of squash etc but it’s really hard to get the stuff down. Gone off coffee, never liked tea anyway. ginger tea is ok but there’s a limit to how much of that you can drink. bizarrely, I’m drinking loads of weak unsweetened cocoa. But I can’t eat chocolate.
If anyone can suggest a drink I haven’t tried, I’ll try anything!
Afternoon everyone.
I found days 3 to 5 worse this time around. However, my mouth still resembles a hedgehogs bum. I’m the same with water. I’ve always loved it and now can’t stand it. I know it’s not very good for you, but cans of sanpellecrino, limonata are absolutely delicious at all he minute. Mmm. You can buy it from most
Supermarkets.
I was also wondering about the flu jab. I’m going to ask at my oncology appointment next Friday.
Just a note re the flu jab rang onc was told to have it as close to next chemo so bloods normal have mine booked in for 28th next chemo is 2nd October so that’s OK onc okay with that so yeah best time to have it is week 3 x
Angela I’m on day 3 knackered hoping I will recover after this week as funeral next Wed and don’t want any unwanted se getting in the way x
Mishy I think you should be okay by next Wednesday. I’ve been fine this week apart from the not so nice mouth and bloated feeling. Nothing that’s stopped me getting on as normal. Hope it’s the same for you. Xx
Good to know re flu jab, thanks for the heads up ladies.
Today is day 6 of the new regime and I optimistically thought I’d gotten lucky. A 15 minute walk to the GP for another sick note and prescription this morning left me needing to get a bus home followed by a three hour nap. On the plus side, I haven’t needed an anti nausea pill yet today so swings and roundabouts.
FeelTheFear have you tried the blood orange Sanpellegrino? ? Might actually have to send the husband out for some. Water, squash just doesn’t taste right, feels like I’ve got a greasy layer of film in my mouth that no amount of teeth cleaning or mouthwash can shift.
San Pellegrino is a great idea, I’m off to the supermarket tomorrow! I had a sparkling lime drink in a cafe yesterday, delicious and not too sweet, made by Innocent and hideously expensive so I won’t be living on that, but I think San P probably has a very similar sort of taste.
Mint tea sounds nice in principle but I’ve had to add it to the ever increasing list of things I’ve gone off. Temporarily, I hope!
I had my first ‘T’ a week ago, & have been so low today, achy twitchy legs, knees & hips & tummy pains since started injections. I’ve joined the forum to see if others of you experienced similar symptoms & you have made me feel so much better already, so thank you.
Kimi, you’re very welcome, hang on in there! I had achey fluey feeling and was very low after my first T, the worst was days 5-9, now it’s day 14 and I feel absolutely fine except for a slightly birdcagey mouth. It will pass!
Good luck anyone who has treatment today. At least it’s not raining (yet)…
Morning kimi. I had my first T last Tuesday. After a rocky start (fainted), I’m starting to feel myself again. Tummy still feels a bit achey, as do the tops of my legs. My mouth feels much better today though. I’m off to get my nails done soon, so I must be on the mend. T has definitely been worse for me than fec though, but if all I have to handle is a week of yuk then I’m happy with that. Fingers crossed.
Miss a, I haven’t tried the blood orange San P. It sounds lovely. Added to tomorrow’s shop list.
I hope you are all having a good day. It was great to see halloween things on sale yesterday. It made me think, well it’s just around the corner and by the time it arrives my chemo will be over. I’m feeling optimistic. ?
Hope you’re doing a bit better today Kimi.
Lemon Fanta has been my life saver today and a bit cheaper than San Pellegrino! A lot of stuff doesn’t taste right but sour things do. I’m slightly obsessed with passion fruits and M&S percy pig phizzy tails at the moment. Whatever gets you through eh.
Hello Lovely Ladies. Thank you for all the tips, after a busy weekend of birthdays for both my grown up children & a friend, I shall be off to buy some limes & cranberry juice & give those a try. My Consultant told me some patients find the horrid taste in mouth isn’t so bad with ‘T’, well not in my case, thinks it’s lasted longer as well. I’m starting to feel more like myself, although tummy aches/pains still there & headache now. Whatever the weather today, a walk in the fresh air I think. Hopefully a week of feeling more myself, then prepare for ‘T’ No.2, oh joy!!! I hope you are all doing well & have a good week.
Good morning kimi. It’s good to hear you’re feeling better. I feel great now. SE’s have all gone. I didn’t have any mouth problems on fec, but the T really battered it. It’s only just back to normal, although food still tastes slightly bland. I’m using a lot of seasoning.
It looks like I might get some sunshine this afternoon, I hope everyone else is as lucky. My disabled adult son had gone away with my mam for a few days, so after a spot of gardening, I think a stroll to our local for a glass of wine or two and a Sunday lunch might be in order. X
Morning ladies to has been quite kind in terms of tummy troubles mouth so so the pain through the night in my body are awful keeping me awake feet hands back neck and ribs stabbing and throbbing so broken sleep I’m finding I’m craving starchy savoury food gone right off sweet stuff it all tastes vile apart from bananas and apple hot mill with manuka honey is also nice ebelps relax
I’ve changed to Tax this cycle and have to say it is far worse than FEC. Really bad bone, muscle and joint pain, head pains, awful heartburn and indigestion. Worst of all is a really sore mouth and difficulty with eating, everything turns to sawdust in my mouth and everything including water tastes vile. Had a sore mouth with FEC but not as bad as this. And my fingers and feet hurt. Not like Tax ?
Yeah Carole the pains are horrible I’m finding that the hardest yes fec is harsh in terms of sickness but the pain side is not something I expected! When my onc said achy pains and tingling in hands and feet think he played it down a bit but I’m looking at it as only two more of the bloody awful things to go x can’t wait I swear to see the back of this lot and get back to having my normal life with my family x
Fingers crossed it does not rain oh I’m finding hot milk with a teaspoon of manuka honey is helping my mouth and throat may just be a coincidence but seriously be doing the job x give it a go Carole x
I didn’t get sickness with FEC so coped with side effects ok. This is just one thing after another, it’s wearing me out. I’m just hoping for some mouth relief before next chemo. I’m day 10. Oncologist definitely played down side effects. As you say the only good thing is there’s only two more to go x
