July 2023 Chemo Starters

Hi @NikiR

Lovely to hear from you  Gosh it never ends does it, glad your GP is moving on it, I’m dreading being back under the care of mine, it’s impossible to get through on the phone nevermind get an appointment.

Hot flashes suck!!! I did try auricular acupuncture, I did 3 sessions, but they were during work hours and it was getting too difficult to schedule time off. I’m going to see if I can find an acupuncturist who’ll do evening appointments. I’ll let you know if I succeed and if it makes a difference to the hot flashes. I’m on a 3 week break from Tamoxifen and they have calmed down a bit, but it’s that or other medication that’s gonna cause them anyway, so I need to find a solution outside of the medical professionals

It’d be nice if the weather cooled down a bit! I best get back to work before I forget what I’m doing :joy: Take care xx

Hi @Hawketower

How are you doing? You must be coming to the end of your treatment now, I hope it’s all going well.

Things have settled down a bit for me, I’m feeling me like my old self again, still have my aches and pains but nothing too bad. I’m back in school now and finding it hard to keep up but not getting stressed about it, it’s going to take a while to get back to where I was.

Time seems to be flying at the moment, I can’t believe we are at the end of September already.

Have you found anything to help with the hot flashes? I’m on Venlafaxin, it seems to be helping, I’m not getting them as often or as badly.

Best wishes
Niki

Hi Niki

Lovely to hear from you :slightly_smiling_face: I’m ok thanks, knackered but should finish chemo on 24 October so I’m counting down the days.

I’ve had 6 weekly acupuncture treatments, after the first two I didn’t feel like anything was happening, but I switched practitioner and I do now think that the severity and frequency of the hot flashes has reduced. Unfortunately the cost is a bit high to keep doing it regularly, so I got my GP to try me on Citralopram to see how that goes. I’ve got a few weeks left on that before he rings to see how it’s been. Good to hear the V is working for you. My God how many tablets and stuff do we need to be on though! I had a pharmacist query “4 different kinds of laxatives??!!!” during my medication review the other day, I got very snotty with her, I’m over all the questioning and probing by randoms!

Eurgh, best get back to work, take care xx

Hi @Hawketower,

Last one done!
How did it go?
I really hope you’re doing okay and it’s not been too hard on you.

Sending you lots of love and best wishes
Niki

Thanks Niki  So relieved it’s over. Went for a celebratory dinner with family then was in bed by 9 :joy:
Had a bad night due to steroids and sick/headache today but at least this is the last time to suffer chemo side effects
On Tamoxifen now for 10 years, annual mammograms etc.
how are you feeling? Xx

I’m so pleased for you, it’s been such a long journey for you.

It’s great you were able to celebrate, it is definitely well deserved! Just a few more days of side effects and it will all be behind you.

Have you started the Tamoxifen already or does that come after the chemo ends?

I’m doing really well, still get tired and have a few aches and pains but now have a full head of curls hair, makes a nice change from the straight hair I’ve always had

Take care x

Hi :slightly_smiling_face:

I started the Tamoxifen in March so it’ll be interesting to see what side effects remain / lessen / appear once this chemo is out of me.

I’m about ready to hibernate and come back out in Spring. If only eh!

Take care xx
