July 2024 chemo starters

Hi everyone.

@caz1970 1 more for us both :crossed_fingers:t2:

Congrats @alisona1 on finishing - glad to feel progressively better - I’m excited to finish but now getting an anxious about all the further treatment.

I’m starting zoladex next week - has anyone also started on tamoxifen? My onco says I need to start on this in 4/6 weeks time and then go to an AI when they know I am in defo menopause! Think I already am with the night sweats!

Xxx

I’ve started Zolodex & now have had 2

I was originally meant to go onto Tamoxifen but now an AI & haven’t a clue why :woman_shrugging:t2:

I’m find this part of the treatment v vague !

How do they check meno status? Xx

Hi everyone
I have my last chemo in 10 days time. Its great reading about PICC lines coming out!! Im looking forward to losing mine.
Ive got surgery on 7 January @booklover1 but it’s a mascetomy and implant. The surgeon said she’d replace the implant if i have radiotherapy and it gets damaged but I’d have to live with it for a year or so.
@caz1970 good luck with your surgery- are you triple negative too?
I can’t believe how quickly we’re moving on after chemo- will some of you be finished soon or on tablets for a while? I’m predicted to complete treatment in July or August (immunotherapy) but itonly every 6 weeks so nothing compared to chemo!!
Xx

Hi @cf640,

Yes I am triple negative! I also will have radiotherapy and immunotherapy after surgery so probs mid 2025 before I have completed all treatment, but will be so pleased to get chemo done and surgery early in Jan xx

I was just asked when my last period was, I did years ago as I had a mirena coil at the time. I was 54 at diagnosis so given an AI, Letrozole.

From my understanding it usually depends on whether your ovaries are producing oestrogen or not, i.e menopausal or not.

I would chat to your breast care nurse or given the wonderful BCN nurses a call on 0808 800 6000 M- F 9-4 Sat 9-1 to ask why the change from Tamoxifen to Aromatase Inhibitors.

I’ve added these links

Hi @caz1970
This chemo is so long and arduous. I was asked if I’m worried about surgery by friends and the BCN but i can’t think beyond finishing chemo at the moment.
I liked @pipspops celebration with sparklers. I think I’ll probably go to bed early though!!
Triple negative isnt brilliant, is it? I belong to the facebook group but i find it a bit depressing so I’m trying to limit my reading time!

Not long now until your last chemo. Good to get the PICC line out too. I had my surgery and implant before chemo but have also been told that radiotherapy might affect the implant and it might need changed but the radio can affect body for up to 12 months so they would wait that long before doing it.
I finished my chemo 2 weeks ago and I’m starting my Letrozole tomorrow which I’ll need to take for 10 years. There seems to be more medication that keeps getting added. He’s already told me I would need to also take Abemacaclib (I think for 2 years although not sure what it’s for!) but on my last visit he told me I need to go to dentist and get any work I need done as he wants me to take a bone agent to strengthen the bones that the Letrozole will weaken but it can cause damage to the jaw bone! I’m already taking calcium and Vitamin D to help with that.

I am also on the TNBC Facebook page, I tend to hide it for a few days as also find it depressing! It has certainly been a long journey, I started on 2nd July and last dose is 3rd Dec, feeling pretty washed out by it all now :unamused:.

I have read they are looking into a new vaccination for TNBC so hope for the future :crossed_fingers: xx

@angieb1 i’ll be having abemaciclib too for 2 years, it’s immunotherapy. I’m starting it after radiotherapy and alongside hormone therapy and bone strengthening treatment x

I had a blood test to see whether I had gone through the menopause or not x

Last chemo tomorrow and really hope they remove the picc line once it’s done x

@ldm Your treatments sounds the same as mine. Good luck tomorrow for your last chemo. I’m sure they’ll take PICC line out but ask when you get there so they’re aware. It doesn’t take long.
It’s a good feeling to be finished the chemo. I feel like I can start to get back to some sort of normality now even though there’s radiotherapy to go through. The chemo wiped me out over the last few months and it’s so good to be done with it. xx

Good luck with your last chemos @caz1970 @kerrylou1 @ldm and @cf640 and congratulations @angieb1 for finishing yours :two_hearts: :two_hearts:. When we all started in July the chemo part of the treatment seemed to be endless stretch over the horizon but we are getting through. I love the sound of running around the garden with sparklers @pipspops that made me smile so much!
Its made me think what to do on my last one. There is not a bell at my hospital but there is a colourful statue of a cow I normally have a walk pastwhen waiting for chemo to be approved so I might give her a pat  :cow2:

Good luck with the surgery @kerrylou1 and @cf640, mine is on the 9th. Also triple negative so will be continuing with immunotherapy afterwards and maybe chemo tablets depending on pathology results. I have been told radiotherapy over 5 days.

I am feeling much better so will blitz Christmas shopping online this week :joy:
before next chemo.

Have booked a local gardens “glow” event :sparkles:for me & husband really looking forward to goingx

Happy Monday everyone xx

Thank you

I had bloods in May confirming I was pre meno (49 and still getting regular periods at that point m) and my last period was after cycle 1 in July due to chemo

So confused on how they know when I’m really meno vs forced meno

I really don’t want these injections every 28 days for 4 ish years

Morning everyone. @pipspops thanks for the image in my head of you running down the garden waving sparklers Brilliant! @caz1970 @kerrylou1 @alisona1 @ldm @cf640 good luck finishing your chemo. @angieb1 nice one finishing i had to visit dentist to check all was well before starting ibandronate for 3 years but i think ill start these after finishing radio. Im also on calci D tablets prescribed a few years ago when l was diagnosed rhumatiod arthritis. I used to be so focused on being triple negative and reading so much I was getting too down so ive managed in my head to drop the tn part and just concentrate on getting through the treatment. It seems to be working for me as i feel more positive and im trying not to dwell on things i can’t do anything about. Maybe it will all catch up with me but im ok for now. Hi @idcand49 and @naughty_boob @booklover1 yes give that cow a pat id milk it given half the chance  Sorry if ive missed anyone but thinking of you all. Happy Monday

So last chemo is done, I decided in the end not to ring the bell (which was the opposite of what I was planning) as feel I still have so much treatment to go through. It was incredibly emotional finishing and as I left the unit my husband was there to meet me (as expected), but the icing on the cake was my son and daughter had unexpectedly joined him - obviously the tears flowed.
Major bummer was they wouldn’t take the picc line out as my oncologist hadnt documented that they could - tbh not actually sure my oncologist even knows I have one so will be chasing this tomorrow.
Lots of good wishes to everyone else finishing this week and massive love to those who have a little longer to go through the chemo journey xx

Ah congrats @ldm  so pleased for you. Me soon!

I had an appointment last week with the onco and she said I could have my pic line out after my chemo this Thursday but I have also booked a further appointment with the local IV team (where I get my pic line cleaned each week) just in case the nurses mess around on Thursday!

It will all be a distant memory soon.

Don’t know how everyone else feeling but starting to feel anxious about the next loads of treatment . Radio tablets injections etc xx

Really great news on the finish and the surprise family finish for you :partying_face:

(Gutted for you on the PICC line, but crossing my fingers it’s a very temporary hold up and you’ll be free soon x)

@kerrylou1 thank you and good luck for Thursday.

I’m also starting to feel anxious about the next lot of treatment - have been panicking about the holding the breath for the radiotherapy. I managed it in the planning scan so not really sure why I’m becoming a bit obsessed about it now!

Also starting reading more into the final 3 things after radio and possible side effects, kind of wish I’d left this reading for a few weeks so I could just concentrate on sorting out my emotions post chemo and starting radio xx
