Cycle 3 today. I’m really looking forward to the cold cap and not being a sweaty mess as I have been since the hot wwater has hit. I have my chair right by the open window so I get the best of both worlds. Got the next episode of The Rain ready on Netflix to watch to pass the time. We’ve had major IT problems at work this week so a day away from that will be most welcome.
Sally hope all goes well today- thinking of you. Sat by window sounds like the best place. Enjoy your Netflix- I watched Miranda on Tuesday - even managed to laugh during the 1st 15 mins of cold cap! I was thinking yesterday how you were not wanting to cold cap at first - so pleased it’s working well for you. Take care xx
Don’t get mewrong, there is some shedding but it’s not noticeable. My daughter reckons I’m being dramatic (collecting itinerary a bag to keep track) as she loses more hair every time she washes hers than I have in total. Before chemo and I had my hair cut short I used to have to constantly rinse the hair off my hands as I washed it because so much came out then so she may be right.
Good luck with the next session Sally, enjoy the cool breeze… must be chemo heads all round coz I read your intial post as “hot weather” and didn’t realise the typo until you corrected “hot water”… ha ha… my eyes are a blur!
Embolorry - I am sure the PICC will be fine, everyone says its ok, I haven’t got one yet but have a massive bruise from this last chemo, she took it from the vein which runs down from my thumb… said it was her favourite vein, not so such my hand thinks so… perhaps I’l follow suit with a PICC sometime?
My SEs seem to be going well this time round again, just a little nauseaus , not so much of a foggy head and apart from that not much at all… fingers crossed as its the first day post steroids and thats when I got the down day and the sore mouth…hopefully not today as its my sons Prom tonight and this 16th on Sunday. I still have my bristles on my head, wondering if they will go this time round, and that bloomin leg/underarm hair grrrrr.
I was given another tip yesterday from a fellow breast cancer lady… she said to go on Ellies Friends website as they have lots of information etc and a section called “freebies”… well that caught my attention. Apparently you can select various freebies (some are regional so may not be avaialble to everyone) and you get entered into a raffle process and she has won quite a few things, days out etc, hotel for the night. might be a nice thing to try. She also passed on to definately use “Difflam” for sore, dry mouths, has to be pescription though, and to try to use “Simple” products on your skin, and head if bald, she tried Johnsons baby products but the nurses told her not to. Also drink carrot and apple juice (mixed together if you can) to help boost bloods! Not tried that yet either, might give it a go, anythings worth a try I guess.
Anyway ladies, glad to hear we are all progressing onwards with relatively few problems, apart from those awful mouth ulcers CDC, hope those clear up soon.
Hello Em, dont worry about picc line, best thing you can have done for chemo. I had to have MUGA on Monday and that involved injections and after 5 attempts to get a vein to work they finally found one. I cant go through that every week for my chemo as too traumatic!! I got some plastic sleeves off amazon to cover my picc line up for showering. I am sheding my hair too so know it will be soon before it all disappears. Julie x
@Kip Do you know why the nurse suggested avoiding Johnson’s baby shampoo? Is it because it is not fragrance free? I had seen elsewhere suggestion that it was a good choice, and have been using it thus far, but will be on the watch for scalp health once the hair falls.
@cdc We’re practically neighbours, but London standards – I am in Harringay Green Lanes, somewhat equidistant from Manor House, Turnpike Lane, and Seven Sisters.
Home from chemo, feet up watching Football. All ok and in this heat the cold cap was bliss. I think I need to take a suitcase to bring all the drugs and injections home. Good news was that my blood results are much improved and were even better than before my first chemo.
Regards the Johnsons stuff, I personally wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole. I used baby lotion to cleanse my face when younger and it burnt me and made my face very sore. That’s why I never used their products on my kids when they were babies.
Oh no! @cdc I am so sorry to hear this. I hope the antivirals work and your WBC has rebounded enough by Tuesday – and if not, know they will clear you asap, and from what I know, delays often creep in. Take very good care of yourself.
Hi ladies. Not been on as had a bad few days with tiredness and arm pains. Going to take a quick trip to a&e just to make sure the tender forearm isn’t a dvt. Any of you had tender fore arm on chemo arm? Not on canula site but nearly elbow on inside of arm? Feels light been lifting weights ?️ repeatedly and can’t put arm straight without it pulling xx
@Sally Welcome home. A cold cap suddenly does sound attractive. Kinda makes me wish I had got one.
@cdc I am on the Gardens (east) side of Green Lanes, but it is a short jaunt up to the high street. We should definitely meet up – I’ll see what the DM set up is here when I am off the phone. I am freelance so here most days (when I am not at various medical engagements).
Getting treatment at North Midds. I am also in the natural catchment for Whittington, but I find North Midds more manageable and friendly. And their A&E handled my PE last summer, and thus all my anticoag history is easily accessed there.
@various Johnson’s has such a bad wrap! And rightly so. But I was doused in the stuff as a wee American tot of the early 1970s, so I haven’t had problems thus far. Once the hair goes, I will probably switch to something aqueous for my scalp.
Cdc I am a cold sore sufferer anyway and have been all my life. The sun is terrible for bringing them on and so is stress and hormones. Mine have gotten so bad at times that I have to take the shingles strength of aciclovor as they travel up the nerves on my face towards my eyes. Be very careful not to touch and spread to other parts especially eyes and downstairs. Use separate towels and pat dry, air dry or baby wipes to clean area. They can make you feel like crap so hope yours heals soon. Numark cold sore cream work on me and I use it with the tablets. Xx
Wig day today! Got one and it’s lovely but…reality setting in now that I’m going to be loosing mine. Mini meltdown happened but surprisingly feel a lot better for it xx
Oh gosh Lisa- hope you are ok. How did you get on at A&E? So kind of you to respond regarding the cold sores when you are having a tough time. Thanks. Will definitely be following your tips and I’m also going to try the unmarked cream. Xx
@LisaMarie It may be nothing but do have it checked out if you haven’t already. They can do a quick D dimer test to see if there is sign of clotting proteins and do a better job of assessing swelling and heat.
I’d had a weeklong calf cramp the day I got my cancer Dx in early May, and my nurse had me go to A&E for the test, as I had a pulmonary embolism last summer and there is increased risk of DVT from cancer; there’s also a rosk associated with chemotherapies. Better to be safe, I say.
Hi Lisa,
Sounds like my issue yesterday, a blood clot caused by chemo. Get it checked out.
Mine is fine but I need to get it scanned again next week and need a PICC line as the veins are ‘collapsing’.
Don’t rub it, as that can move the clot.
The other thing it could be ‘cording’ caused by chemo - I have that too. Cording on both arms!
Anyway hope you are okay,
Love to all,
Em

Just waiting for a bus to station as I’m going to work to catch up. Feeling completely fine after cycle 3 yesterday. Only drawback is I’m wearing shorts and a vest cos it’s so hot and don’t need to look smartish on a Saturday. Haven’t bothered shaving my legs cos I thought itd be gone by now. As I as moisturising them I noticed that the hair has very much not gone! Between that and the hat to keep the sun off my head that my husband says makes me look like a cricket umpire, I look like a bit of a tramp. Oh well, I’ll hide downstairs at work with the air con on 18 and be happy.
Great that you are feeling so well Sally. Gives me hope for next week ?. Have a good day at work, but don’t overdo it.
My prom went well on Thursday. I wore a bright stripy dress (more of a summer frock than ball gown, but anything goes these days!!) and a big floppy hat. The meet and greet was lovely. The kids looked amazing. We had the usual range of posh and sports cars, four tractors and even a helicopter!!!
I took my hat off for the meal and then did a tour of the tables and spoke to all the kids. It was a bit like a wedding!!
It was great to see the kids, and I had some lovely reactions from them and many of the parents who were dropping off. It was nice to see some of my colleagues too.
I managed to stay until 10pm when the disco was in full swing. However, after two late nights I was exhausted yesterday and went to bed at 8pm!!
Enjoy the weather (in the shade) and the footy!! Kxxx
