Hi all,
Just wanted to let anyone in London know about the Haven, a charity set up for women with breast cancer, offering various treatments free.
I have had a couple of sessions, acupuncture and EFT (sort of tapping), Emotional Freedom Techniques.
Anyway, loved it.
Anyone got any wig recommendations? I think I want to research getting one made as my head is big and the one I have just doesn’t feel like it fits very well? I haven’t lost all my hair but would say it’s 50% thinner and I assume will come off very soon?!
Xxx
Just realised I’ve started to shed too ktk but it’s not from my head!!! Didn’t realise I might lose the hair from other parts of my body first. Very strange!!
Hi Embolorry I’ve got an initial appointment at Haven booked for the week after next. Looking forward to seeing what they have on offer. X
@cdc1811 I told you the wrong thing re having a picc line. You can lift things just not do things like tennis. Soz. x
Cdc, I also lost hair in other places first, quite a shock whilst having a bath!!!
Re the Haven, if you know what you would like treatment wise, you can have them. I didn’t mind and so after that initial consultation, I was advised to have certain ones.
Hello Kip, yes im there on 23rd 1.30 apt that day which is a pain as prefer the morning ones but obviously have to share them around. I guess i dont have to have them tablets/injections yet as on weekly chemo? Up hospital tomoz to see consultant but not sure wot she can tell me yet as only had 3 chemo. She shud have results of my MUGA though, fingers crossed my heart is ok to take the chemo? Have u done your injection yet?
Seems my head hair is now following that on other parts of my body and heading down the plug hole. Can anyone advise how quickly I can expect it to all be gone from the initial signs of shredding? Wondering if it’s time for me to shave it all off.
Hi cdc,re shedding hair, mine starting coming out on about 11 little strands but not noticeable then by day 13 it was gett8ng quite thin but ok ish, day 14 it was falling out in clumps if I touched it and looked awful but more upsetting than anything so I had no 1 shave that day, I still have bristles funnily enough just the grey ones left. Does your head feel sore, mind got really sore before shave but was better after it had come off. I found it quite upsetting going bald which surprised me but after couple of days I was ok again, just had to get on and deal with it, now wandering house bald, not ventur3 out bald tho, wearing wig hats bandanas etc and it’s ok. You’ll know when is right to shave it’s when you can’t stand the shedding anymore I think. As for hair elsewhere it’s thinning down below but legs, under arms eye lashes and eye brows still there. A lady at chemo said once she started T chemo her eyebrows went but her hair on head started to regrow!
Embolorry , my wig are from a local wig supplier in Ipswich Frobishers not sure if they are national but they fitted it and adjusted it to my size and it’s quite comfy.
i did my first injection las6 night and it was fine, bit nerve wracking but no SEs yet! Feeling little nauseas today but otherwise ok, watching football last night cleared the chemo head!
love Kip
Hi Kip Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s so helpful. It’s not sore as such but coming out a few strands at a time when I touch it. I’m Day 15. I was hoping to keep hold of it for a bit longer on the AC-T regime. Oh well. I have a few scarves/hats but definitely need more. I find my wig so itchy! Maybe I’ll try and persevere but I’m allergic to quite a few materials topically so not sure it will be possible. Can only wear certain fabrics. The lovely wig/bra lady also said I’d know when it’s the right time to shave it. Not quite there yet but probably by the end of the week.
Well done for doing your first injection! Hope you are still SE free and the nausea is subsiding.
I’m off for a physio appointment. MRI is on Saturday 14th. Just hope I’m not feeling too grim from second Cycle of chemo next Tuesday!!
Have a good day everyone xx
No I don’t Kip. I’m fine with bamboo fibres so might be worth a try. Thanks!
My hair started to shred on Sunday a bit. Monday more came out if I ran my fingers through, but yesterday it was coming out more! I had a shower this morning and lost loads so decided to shave it all off. I had already decided not to go down the wig route and I do quite like my Sinead O’Connor look. I have a couple of ‘shaped’ scarves, and have just gone out wearing it but I would go out ‘naked’. I’m even considering going to the prom bald.
If you found my fishing pics on FB then you can see what I look like now!!
Love to all Kxx
Saw my oncologist today who agreed to halve my steroids as, being diabetic, they’re counterproductive. They push my blood sugars so high I end up feeling knackered from that. He wouldn’t cut back my injections though because apparently my bloods are only just on the right side of acceptable so he has instead prescribed me coco Damon for when/if I get the pain the week after.
Coco Damon? Matt’s sister?
That should be Co-codamol.
Just been down our village pub as my skittles team was playing. Braved the Sinead O’Connor lookkand was fine. I have also had brilliant feedback from friends and acquaintances from my FB posts of the big shave. It is nice to have that positive reinforcement and the knowledge that I don’t have to bother with scarves if I don’t want too. At least I know I have the option.
CDC go for the shave. It is better than shedding hair everywhere and I have found it very liberating. Just looking forward to session two next Wednesday. Not!!! Night all Kxx
Glad to hear things are good for you reddi. I was surprised my hair lasted as long as it did, and had even started to hope it might last until round 2!! However I have found shaving it all off, aided and abetted by son, daughter and husband, surprisingly liberating. I actually like myself bald so think I will stick with it. I have a couple of beanies and scarves for when it gets colder!!
Skittles is a bit like 10 pin bowling, but with 9 pins and no technology! You bowl 3 hand sized rubber balls down the alley to hit the pins. Then a teenaged boy picks them up! Six people on a team, eight ends. One team against another in a league. Good fun and nice and sociable. I only play in the summer league.
Busy day today: dentist, opticians, drive out to prom venue to help set up and then prom this evening. I’ll go for the start and maybe the meal, but I won’t last all night!! Haven’t decided what to wear yet. What goes with bald…?!
Wow ladies, glad to hear all it going well. KTK glad you are rocking the bald head, it is liberating isn’t it, although I haven’t braved going out yet, but love wandering around at home hairless… I think its one thing we can take control off in this situation and that means a lot. CDC I am sure you’ll rock the look too. I must have had a mad chemo on line shop the last week as I keep getting deliveries or hats and scarves, definately look on ebay… I got 2 banandas for £2.99! A turban style one, a lovely one with daisies on and I think there may be another one on the way… love to online shop!!
Chemo day 4 today and all going well, very minimal nauseau feeling today, haven’th had any anti-sickness today! Last day of steroids though, so could have the weepy day again soon but as expecting it now I’ll now whats what. Have managed 2 jabs too whihc have been ok, no SEs from those as yet. So all in all round 2 going ok.
Another thought… my OH remembered that we had taken out “critical illness” cover alongside our mortgage some years ago and has looked into what that covers, and ours does cover “breast cancer”, we have made a claim and it has paid out, so if you have a mortgage or life cover out there, might be worth taking a look, you are all probably much more on the ball than us and know all this but we tend to put paperwork away and forget about it. Anything we can get whilst dealing with this crap has to be worth it!!
Have a good day all…
Kip xx
Morning ladies. Glad to hear everyone continues to do well. I’m on day 15 now and still remarkably side effect free. My body hair is starting to shed but my head hair remains intact. Will deffo go with the cold cap again, it’s worth it at the mo.
Bloods and PICC flush and dress, plus oncologist and BCN on Monday then it all starts again on Wednesday.
Good to hear all your news - I am reading and cheering even if I’m not posting loads!

Hi all,
Wow, hearing all your ‘bald’ bold stories, I am inspired and in awe of you! My hair is still hanging on (which is weird), and every morning I assume today will be the big shed day, when I will have emergency trip to get shaved, but hasn’t arrived. It will probably happen tomorrow morning now I’ve written that.
Anyway I had a routine physio appointment this morning (for cording after my surgery), and whilst I was there I asked about my right arm which has been sore (other side from the surgery but one that gets chemo). Anyway a doplar scan later and a bit of waiting, I get told I have a blood clot in my arm from the chemo / canular. Now have to have extra scans as well as MRI (for abnormalities on my hip, unrelated) next week and then a PICC line fitted before the next cycle of chemo. Urgh, it feels like it doesn’t stop!
Anyway any advice for having the picc line???
Sleep well all,
Em
Xx
Hi Em. Don’t worry about the Picc line. The procedure is very easy and painless and then you can forget about it! I have some lovely funky covers, which some people think I am wearing just as a fashion statement!
Prom was brilliant. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow. Night night xx
Hi
I too have found the picc line to be an absolute godsend, makes such a difference to the blood testing and chemo. No struggling to find a vein and insert needles. Anything that makes this process a little easier is a win.
