June 2024 chemo starters

@alig1961 it’s all the more shocking for me to see my Mum in the mirror because for my whole life I looked like my dad! The story goes that when I popped out the midwife picked me up and said Oh she looks exactly like her father :rofl:

Hi All
@donna_51 it takes at least 48 hours to grow the cultures, so I’m stuck here for a while longer. However, I had a good chat with the onc nurse today and she thinks there may not be an infection and that my body has just reacted to the injections and the docetaxol. The doctors have to treat as an infection because my white blood count was so high, but in reality it could just be the injections that triggered it. I didn’t help myself by not taking paracetamol when I felt rough and my temperature was normal. So note to self, take paracetamol as soon as I start to hurt. Fingers crossed I’ll master this chemo thing by session 6 :joy:
I’m typing this as the fire alarms are ringing out throughout the hospital. No one can find the fire though. It’s mad.

What a nightmare @alig1961. I really hope you get home soon and your remaining chemo sessions come with slightly less drama! You must be exhausted from it all.xx

@donna_51 i hope you too make it through those final sessions without any more delays so you can get back to planning fun stuff.xx

@pat i hope you enjoyed your afternoon and have a lovely goody bag. I’ve booked for 15 Oct. This should be a couple of weeks after my final session so really hope I’ve not jinxed it and end up with a delay, especially after last week’s issues!:crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:

Hi all! @alig1961 - infections that cant be found and now fires that can’t be located. I wonder if you are living in a parallel universe  Your chat with the Onc nurse sounds very helpful. Hopefully it is as she suggested but right that you are being treated for an infection just in case.

@wjs I really enjoyed my makeup session. More than i expected in fact. We were given a fabulous goodie bag which contains everything that you could want, especially for someone like me who doesnt own a stick of makeup. It has also cheered me up  Oh tea and cake as well :yum:

I knew you’d get tea and cake. When I went I purposefully let everyone choose which cake they wanted first. They all opted for carrot so only got a small piece each. I then opted for coffee and got a huge piece.
So glad you enjoyed it @pat xx

Hope you’re feeling a bit better :two_hearts:

I went for my LGFB in person session this morning and came away with an amazing bag of products, and a full face of make up (which after months of not wearing any made me keep laughing at myself in the mirror, so I guess that’s a good thing?!)
We didn’t get offered any tea or cake, just water…so I feel like you won there @pat

@alig1961 sorry that you’re stuck there, will keep fingers crossed you’re home tomorrow.

I’m back in the chair for session 3/12 Paclitaxol tomorrow, soooo many sessions to go!

@alig1961 nightmare by the sounds of things. Fingers crossed you get sorted quickly and home. I’m sure it’s been tough as you realise the things you normally do you can’t do - it’s bloody frustrating.

Glad @pat and @wjs had fun at the LGFG events. Sounds like they went well even without cake! I shall look forward to mine next week.

Out of curiosity has anyone had a 30 min consultation with Daniel Field (hair and skin products). It knocked me for 6 today and felt very down after - my husband tried to talk some sense into me tonight - I did realise that they are selling their products - because I didn’t cold cap - I was told it’s more likely my hair will be thinner or won’t grow back. My onc said that there was always risks going on Doxetacal anyway - my judgement was challenged in the first 2 minutes of the call. Confidence just smashed in seconds. Note to self. Stick with the specialists. Need sleep……

@collywobbles … how scary to hear that!!! What a load of old blx though … yes, there’s risk in all of this and yes, a v small amount of women have different hair when it comes back but for the vast majority of women hair eventually all comes back and settles back to normal. I wish people would think about what they say before they say it - we are vulnerable to what we hear. I would tell Daniel F to shove his products up his arse!!! I totally get why you feel down… it’s hard to hear that after going through all this hell, that we’ll be damaged in some way forever… but we won’t, we’ll come out of this stronger and bloody brilliant xxx

@alig1961 smart move… but risky… what if all the cakes had GONE!!!
@ljlj …water!!! What were they thinking!!! Good luck tomorrow… I’m in for bloods again tomorrow but I’m convinced that like my first EC that it will be another week or so. My body clearly can’t seem to cope with anything new and needs time to get used to it… probably a metaphor for me as a person really, I’m not great with change.

We’re off to Thorpe Park today … I thought I might as well go and terrify myself on the big rides with my family. To be honest, it will be nice to think about something else for the day and a 80mph, 70m high ride should do it !!!

Happy Tuesday everyone xxx

I knew what I was doing @donna_51 id seen the cakes before hand and counted the number of ladies there. :joy:
@collywobbles please try not to worry about hair re-growth (easier said than done). Donna is right, the vast majority get their hair back as it was. My friend who had BC last year and had the same treatment as us is completely back to normal. Why don’t you book onto the LGFB hair and scalp course. I think it only runs virtually once a month and they had to cancel it last month. I’m on it in Sept, it’s the 10th.
These companies that prey on our vulnerabilities need dealing with.
Got 2 hours sleep last night. Hospital nights are long and lonely.

Fingers crossed @donna_51 for your bloods. Enjoy your day at Thorpe park. I’m more of a hold the bags type person. Xx

Just thought I’d remind everyone about the LGFG nail course. It’s virtual and you also get a goodie bag through the post. Worth doing for the freebies. Xx

@collywobbles I’m so sorry you had such an awful experience with Daniel Field. As others have said re the hair growth, it’s a very small risk but obviously it’s hard not to worry about it. I’m using the Weleda Hair Tonic. Supposed to be good. No idea if it will help but it’s all natural stuff and smells lovely! Might be worth a look?

Good luck with the bloods @donna_51 and have a lovely day out.

Thanks for the info re the LGFB nail course. Don’t forget about the Little lifts if not applied yet - lovely goodie bag too!

I bought the DF products ahead of cold capping, including their skin care range. It felt like something I could try, an element of control in a world where I felt like I was losing control…
I haven’t retained a lot of hair, and the smell of the original product was so intense that it made me feel sick (I should say that they did change my product for a fragrance free one which someone on here suggested), however I haven’t had great success with them so question if they work and so I think I’ve decided I’m not going to restock when I run out.
I’m booked on the LGFB hair growth session next Tuesday too that @alig1961 has mentioned, definitely try to join that as I’m sure they will have good suggestions of trusted products that can help-and no affiliations with any Company.
I think in 99% of people hair regrows, so the odds are in your favour- I hope you can forget the call yesterday as you don’t need that negativity in your life now or ever.

@donna_51 I hope you have the best day, brilliant to escape and forget about things for the day!

I also had a DF consultation pre chemo and hated it, felt like they scare mongered me into £175 worth of goods. The smell of the products also made me heave (coupled with the EC nausea, it wasn’t good) and I ditched the cold cap after 2 sessions. Personally I think they prey on vulnerable people. @collywobbles try to not worry. The science says your hair is more likely than not to grow back xxx

@donna_51 I hope you’ve had a wonderful day. Like @alig1961 I would rather be holding the bags. NOTHING would induce me to go on the big rides. Good luck with the blood test. I will have everything crossed.

@collywobbles I am absolutely furious on your behalf. It’s disgraceful and a ploy to get money out of vulnerable people. If and when you ever feel strong enough maybe a complaint would be in order.

Hi all
My friend whose little girks suffers from hair loss / alopecia recommended this set (i think it was recommended to her by a specialist but dont quote me on it) but she swears by it for the weeks her littke girl isnt on steriod shampoo.

Im applying to my fuzzy / bald head - i like the smell - not too strong.

Hi All
Can I have your help please? I don’t want to try and go back through all of the 900 messages to find something.
Some of you said that you hated the CSF injections. On EC I never had an issue with them but I really do think that it’s these injections that are causing me issues now whilst on docetaxel. Can you tell me why you didn’t like them and how they affected you?
Thank you everyone.
X

@alig1961 do you mean the injections to boost the white blood cells Filgastrim? If so it’s hard to say what effects are the injections and what is the chemo. I think about a couple of days or so in I get back ache/sore back then it’s just mild sore joints. Nothing too bad as yet. I’m not sure if they give me an off stomach or if that’s the chemo but after the last injection this time my stomach seemed to settle down. I hate having to do them but fingers crossed I’ve not had to have a delay again since having them. I’ve never felt as rough as I did last week on EC though. I hope you manage to figure it out and really hope next time is better.x
