Just back from radio 1 !! No side affects so far but I am being super vigilant now to see if anything happens today/this week/any time!! I have been given some Flamigel (honestly, who names these medications??!!!) on prescription to use x 3 per day. Fingers crossed it’s all low level stuff but I’ll keep you updated. Will definite be honest!!!
No issues with the actual radio - I was determined to be postive so it was all ok. Was quite quick once they’d faffed around with lining it all up properly. The worst bit, physically. was your arms being up above your head and feeling the pins and needles kicking in but knowing you can’t move + being so exposed lying flat on your back… no dignity in any of this!!!
Just been for my first radiotherapy too. Was a bit nervous this morning but it was fine. They gave me a screen to look at so you can see when you have your breath hold right. Thought this might make me more anxious but actually helped having something to focus on and didn’t really seem like I was holding it for that long. Didn’t feel anything. Although I’m sure it may get a bit sore as I get into my 15 sessions. Will see how we go but so far ok. Obviously though as soon as was in position and couldn’t move I got an itchy nose
Hope everyone else who is starting this week gets on ok.xx
@wjs and @donna_51 Well done both of you! How long do you actually lie there with your arms up? ie how long does the radio take once they’ve got you positioned?
@pat - it’s not long and I’m sure you can move in between each breathe hold if needs be. I didn’t as I wanted to get out asap. About 10 minutes (ish!). Well done @wjs it feels like we’re jumping over another, smaller hurdle, but closer to the final finish line, yay xx
Radiotherapy number 1 completed also.
My boob feels very hot compared to the other one. As I’m a right boob person I don’t have to hold my breath. Unfortunately it took them ages to get me in the right position so I had my arms up for nearly 20 minutes. 8 more to go. I’m moisturising at least 3 times a day.
Xx
@alig1961 I’m a right boober too but had to hold mine. Strange how different hospitals do different things.
@donna_51 i think a lady I spoke to uses that cream you got. We don’t get it prescribed, she got hers off Amazon. She’s not had any blisters or soreness and she’s half way through so sounds good stuff!
@pat the radio only actually takes a few minutes. They say around 20 mins altogether, most of that time is getting you into position. Luckily they got me into position quite quickly then if you can stay still it will be over fairly quick if they don’t then have to reposition you.
Glad everyone got on ok. I went into work after, just felt a little tingly for a short while this afternoon but nothing much. Got my MooGoo cream from my Little lifts box but might check out the cream Donna has.
The cream Donna has spoken about looks good but it’s bloody expensive. No wonder most of us don’t have it prescribed. @donna_51 did they tell you how often to use the cream and how much to use? Is it in place of moisturiser or to be used if soreness starts?
They said to use 3 times a day until the tube runs out rather than wait til I get any symptoms. My ‘breast’ feels a bit tingly too but the whole area feels odd anyway so I can cope with that.
Well done ladies @donna_51@alig1961 and @wjs on completing first radiotherapy session and pleased it wasn’t such a horrible experience! I remember my dad having it when he had lung cancer and he said it was more the inconvenience of having to go everyday for only a few minutes than any actual pain or side effects. The closest hospital that does it to us is Leeds so about a 40min each way trip, depending on the time of the day of the appointment! But after reading your posts I will be saving my moo goo cream I think.
I was scrolling through instagram tonight and saw this … not sure if any of you are on Instagram but thought could be useful xx
@charlie22 Well my lovely hubby will do the driving and at least he won’t have to sit around for ages waiting for me. I’m wondering if an afternoon appointment might be best so we could have a little trip first as the hospital is in a lovely part of North Wales!
Well done @donna_51@wjs and @alig1961 - another first hurdle completed - proud of you how much you’ve achieved It can’t be easy lying so still especially with a bit of anxiety kicking in whilst you are in strange positions! I wish you good luck with the creams so you don’t get sore.
Thanks for the link @charlie22 - I will check it out.
I hope you don’t mind me replying to this @pat but I have noticed that the later the appointment the greater the delay. My friend had a 2 hour delay when she had an afternoon appointment but only small delays in a morning. When I’ve gone for my chemo there has always been a board up to state the radiotherapy delay times. It may be something to consider. Your hospital may be a lot better than mine. Xxx
