June 2025 chemo starters

I have watery eyes some days.

I slept with a head covering when I had a pixie cut and was still shedding.

Now I’ve cut it short #3 guard. I sleep bare head.

I’ve ordered moogoo? For my scalp But it hasn’t arrived yet so not tried it.

PAC #1 tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes with side effects. They said I will still need filigrastin injections (boo) as I’m on a 2 week dose dense regime. And higher dose of steroids.

Good news. Spoke to oncologist on Friday and she said as long as I feel ok there’s by reason not to use the gym in week 2. Looking forward to doing more normal exercise again.

I still find it hard to tell new people what I’m going through. Just rang the dentist to cancel my upcoming appointments and got really choked up saying I’m going through chemotherapy at the moment. Surprised me because I can talk quite freely about it with those who already know. Then the dental receptionist said good luck for the future and that made me tearful.
Hope everyone has a pleasant day whatever you are doing today x

@twinks77 I know what you mean about telling people. It’s like dropping a bombshell and watching them process it. I avoid it too if I can.

Hi all, I hope you’re all doing well today. I’m out the other end of cycle 2, it followed broadly the same as cycle 1 in being about 8 days of side effects, then a Lazarus style recovery.

I’m used to my buzz cut now and enjoy the freedom from worry about shedding. My husband has an appointment with his barber later (the one who did the pixie for me) and she’s kindly said I can go with him to get a tidy up from the home cut on Saturday.

Have a good day everyone xx

Hey all, How is everyone? I’m on day 6 of EC 3 and the tiredness has really started to take over. I also can’t seem to motivate myself to do anything productive which I feel guilty about. The veins in my hand and arm are really starting to ache too, anyone have this? Arghhh…

Hey @rfmeh hope you are doing okay. EC 3 was the one that got me, the fatigue was difficult. You definitely shouldn’t feel guilty, you have to listen to your body & give it what it needs

I struggled with my veins with EC 3 & requested a PICC line. I couldn’t get it in before EC 4 so we had to go in the hand & it wasn’t fun. I’ve just had it put in yesterday for my first docetaxel tomorrow & feel so relieved that I won’t have to sit through multiple attempts to get a vein. Would definitely recommend speaking with your team to get a PICC / port if you can

I had a port done after my 1st EC. I am now on my 3rd EC today so 6 weeks since and my hand still hurts and is bruised from when they did the 1st one. Best thing i did not pleasant to have done but definitely worth it for me as not great witb needles.

Just finished my last EC and heading for IKEA. I felt very anxious this morning but it passed when I was plugged in and infusing. Hang on in there!

Hi all, hope you’re ok. Just reading threads on vein issues - had my third EC on Friday - veins playing up here by now so crossing everything for round 4. When pre chemo bloods were drawn on Weds the phlebotomist went through the vein and caused a small haemotoma. Chemo nurses had minor issues with finding vein on Friday - in my hand on second attempt. I’ve been putting compression socks on that arm since Sunday as it’s been a little bit painful above where they pulled pre chemo bloods. Never a dull moment - we’ve constantly got something to be worrying about. Good luck to all moving onto next steps.

Oh my goodness. Another thing to stress about. I asked for a port on NHS but they said no although did offer a PICC line. I ended up using my corporate medical insurance and lo and behold a port was offered straight away.

Well sat here in a small but busy coffee shop. (ikea was heaving). And I have to admit that nobody has looked twice at my baldy head

Ive been much more fatigued after my 3rd EC. Day 8 today and just can’t motivate myself for anything.
Eating like mad (all the wrong things!)
I have also had pain in my vein. It has corded from my first EC that I had through a cannula. Used a port for the 2nd and 3rd EC.
Ive been advised to keep it stretched out and massage regularly. Also put hot and cold pads on.

That exactly the treatment I had - finished June 25th. Barring the first infusion I lived a relatively normal life through it all. The anti-nausea meds are great once you get the “hang of it”

I spoke with the team last week about possibly getting a picc line but they said that they avoid offering this because of the lack of funding. They may try my surgery arm instead. @rach49 does the compression help with the veins? I havent tried this.

I’m really surprised by this. I assumed everyone either had a port or pic line.

I was told picc line was advised as the EC is harsh and can damage smaller veins.

From the sounds of things I’m very glad I was offered the picc line.

Interesting that they have mentioned using your surgery side. I was told I couldn’t have anything going in on that side & could only have bloods taken on it. I suppose every team is different.

After 6 attempts to get a suitable vein on EC 3 I knew I wasn’t going to cope with my hand anymore. Hopefully you get a solution you are happy with.
