Agh that’s interesting so I could end up being on it for 10 Years?? Happy days x
Latest research says double the benefit over 10 years than 5.
Not 100% if that is now being applied by all hospitals it is at mine.
Going back to work in 3 or 4 weeks.Onc said side effects/ fatigue peaks 2 weeks after the end of radiation therapy treatment so should give myself at least 3 weeks before considering work.
Hope you have some good things planned and lots of rest and chocolate,Twiglets and vodka x it will be interesting to see if my hospital is doing the 5 or 10 ? I will let you know when I get there. (Seems a long way off at mo) xx
Yep I’m on letrozole for 10 years too because recent teseach says it’s better. I think it will be the norm for the whole country soon x
Hi everyone,
Hope you don’t mind me joining you. I’m not exactly “just diagnosed” as that was 21st July and since then I’ve had a mastectomy of the right breast and an immediate reconstruction with implant and strattice mesh which so far I am very pleased with. I’ve been lurking on this, and other, threads these last few weeks which have given me a lot of comfort but I’ve only just plucked up the courage to actually join in and was not sure where to put my query below.
Saw my surgeon this morning and had dressing removed (shower tonight, hooray) and he has now passed me on to Oncology. Next step chemo.
My normal breast cancer nurse was away today and I completely forgot to ask in her absence if she will travel with me to the next stage. Is this the normal way things work and she is assigned to me throughout? I hope so as she has been fantastic so far.
Thanks everyone and happy Friday.
Hi Peggy, welcome glad you had the courage to post, I’m not exactly just diagnosed myself !!I think your breast care nurse is there for your throughout and after your treatment if you want to access her support.
Hi Peggy, nice to meet you. I can call my bc nurse any time oeven though my radiation treatment was at another hospital and I was introduced to another oncologist there too so hopefully you can do the same. I was diagnosed in April so have come to the end of my treatment too but like to be around for others as they were for me. Sending love Lorna x
Ah yes, think I may face 10 years on the lovely Anastrazole, hot flushes and all. Have just bought some Egyptian cotton sheets and a duvet cover off Amazon and they are much more comfortable at night, compared to the poly cotton ones. There is still not much research on long term use of Anastraxole, which was called Arimidex before it came off licence. However, more oncs are recommending that Tamoxifen be given for 3 years and then Anastrazole for 2 years. Not sure if this would apply to pre menopausal ladies or not. There is so much variety around the UK in the way these drugs are prescribed so no wonder we are all confused. Even my GP said she was confused over the whole thing, not very comforting! Feeling a bit down today as I had rather an emotional ?call from my sister in South Africa. We miss each other a lot but I’ll see her at Xmas when she comes over. Lately, all I seem to see on the tele are adverts about cancer or am I just more aware of them? Get lots of emails about funeral plans too, lol and recently one from a private clinic offering breast reductions. Felt tempted to reply and say they were too late, BC had taken care of some of that! I resisted the urge. ?
Hi Peggycat, welcome. I think your breast nurse is with you throughout treatment. Mine offered to come with me to my oncology appointment if I wanted extra support. They are really worth their weight in gold if you get a good one xxx so ladies is that why she did not say what hormone treatment I would be in as it could be a combination?? Xx
Fluffs you’re not the only one who notices the cancer adverts!
Hi Peggycat, sorry you are in this club x
Barry
You too then Barry. A lot of rather saintly looking women with short hair! Miaow??They don’t look anything like me on a bad day!
Thank you all for your lovely (and speedy) welcome. I feel somewhat reassured by your responses and hope that I can be of some help and assistance in the future. x
Welcome from me too Peggycat. This forum has been a lifesaver and always cheers me up on a bad day.
Lol fuffs. We all have days like that and as far as the adverts…sick of the sight of them! We will get there…still waiting for my anti depressants to kick in! x
Anti depressants would have been good today. Nikki and I had a good cry together. Better out than in as they say #we’llbeatthis x
Yep advert , after advert…I am ignoring them. It could be that we are more aware because it’s happening to us. Xx
Oh bless you both…such a strain on emotions Barry. You will both be stronger at the other end. If you can get through this you can get through anything. Crying Isis good, releasing all the tention. Give nikki my love x
It was a massive release of tears of fears. We will get through this no matter what but you’re right about getting through anything after this. Will do Lorna xx
