Just diagnosed and wanting to talk to people who understand

Last one today, feels like Christmas morning!!!May even have 2 tea cakes instead of one at the hospital with my free cup of tea to celebrate !!

Yay Jill! I can’t wait for Nikki to have that feeling x

She will get there Barry but it’s a long job, marathon rather than a sprint.Seems ironic doesn’t it that you could be excited to have your last cancer treatment!!

Congratulations Jill you should have as many tea cakes you fancy along with sprouts vodka chocolate and maybe a bit of champagne. Big big hugs xxxxxxxxx

It sure is weird in this world Jill. This year has flown by, so hopefully treatment will too x

Go for it Jill, last rads, fantastic??I’ll find out on Thursday if it’s surgery or rads but I’m thinking I may decline the rads. My poor boob is not recovering well from the last surgery so not sure how it will tolerate 3 weeks of it. I’m due another mammogram in Jan (can’t believe it’s all been going on for 9 months) so may consider a wait and see approach til then, if margins are clear. If not, it will be surgery for sure. Barry, think how far Nikki has come since she first had the op. It will take time for her body to heal after ANC etc, it’s no small op and everyone’s body reacts differently to surgery. I only had the sentinel nodes removed and it was quite a time before my mobility came back properly. If she is going to be put on hormone therapy it will be because her BC IS ER+, which is actually good news as far as it can ever be with BC. It means that depriving it of oestrogen via medication should be very effective at preventing a recurrence. If you are pre menopausal like Nikki, they will prescribe Tamoxifen so you don’t go in to early menopause. You still produce oestrogen but the receptors in the breast are blocked and cannot absorb it. If like me you are post menopausal and can do without oestrogen, then you are prescribed Anastraxole or Letrazole, which stops any oestrogen production left in your body. Sometimes they will prescribe Tamoxifen for post menopausal women if there are concerns over their bone density. Having no oestrogen in your body can affect bone density so Anastrazole is not good for people with known problems in that area. Everyone on Anastrazole should have a bone density or DXA scan as they call it from time to time. Mine has shown signs of early problems in my hip so I’ve been put on Vitamin D 3 interestingly. This is the vitamin we were talking about, which has shown to be low in a lot of ladies with BC and helps the body absorb calcium. Expect I’ll have another scan in a few months to check things.

Happy days Jill, look at how far you have come, the active treatment is soon to be over. Celebrate ???eat cake, drink vodka, party xxxx I’ve got a while to wait but I will get there too xxxx

Thanks fluffs, that maybe why my onc did not tell me what medication they were going to put me on. I have not had menopause yet but am 40 sonit could start I suppose it’s a wait and see thing xx

Did they mention Herceptin Ange?

Great explanation there I didn’t know half of that I don’t think I ask the right questions right I’m off for yet another bleeping scan! They don’t have one in Bristol so having a day out in Cheltenham with my mother in law scan and a nice lunch somewhere might as well make the most of it while we are there  xxxxxx

Thanks for clarification Fluffs. Nikki is slowly recovering from the op. A few weeks ago she couldn’t do anything herself, now have to warn her to be careful eg washing up. I’ve been reading more on bc and it seems that dairy and refined sugar aren’t good for estrogen levels, ergo intake should be cut out/reduced at least to give yourself the best chance. Cutting out completely would be tough, but a treat once in a while should be way forward. All easy for the bloke who has low estrogen levels in his body to say.

Enjoy your day trip Sarah.

Enjoy your day out Sarah  yes Jill I will have herceptin for a year. Will have the first 3 with 2 nd part of chemo - FecT but she did mention a trial which means 6 months but to be honest think I want whole hog so I know it won’t come back xxx

I’m confused now missmore…going to ask about it. Jill yipeeeee yes get two tea cakes! And wave your bra in the air! X

Oops pressed post before I’d written anything.Well that’s me done, feels unreal as it has dominated my life for the last 4 months !!Have to go back to the real world eek!!!

Good News Jill. What happens for you now? x

10 years of Tamoxifen and yearly mammograms and I guess the unease in the back of your mind that it might come back.

Hi Jill, it will be strange. When r u going back to work?? Personal question - why are u on tamoxifen for 10 years? Did they tell you why? Just wondering as my inc did not give me any lengths of time and most people seem to be 5 years. Yippeeee blast time over !!! You have done the active treatment xxxx

Nikki’s nurse said that new research says 10 years is more beneficial but didn’t say it was being prescribed to people for that long.
