Just diagnosed with Breast Cancer

have a nice day, Lisa…keep being positive and try not to cry. Remember we are all in good hands and we will all get through this.
In a few months time we will be in a better position and we will get used to it, like anything else…you learn to live with it…xx

Yes we will hun…you have a good day too…xxx

lets keep smiling…thats all we can do.xx

As you have both said - you will learn how to live with this and get through the treatments. Once you are presented with “the plan” life gets a little easier because “something” is being done. I had a meeting with my Oncologist and she said she is “done” with me and doesn’t want to see me again. Which is great news! I will need a bone density scan because I am taking letrazole but I consider that to be another positive because they are still keeping a close eye on me. You will come through this! I feel like a different person now, more confident and I don’t worry about the small stuff any more.

One step at a time - and my mantra that got me through this? “THIS TOO WILL PASS”

Hiya Supertrouper,

Does treatment plan mean the next step after being dx and that they know the lump is cancerous? I was referred to the clinic weds, was in there for 6 hours anyway after having all the usual tests they were able to dx me on the same day.
The surgeon said that i will have to have a partial mx…rads and chemo. Is that what you mean by treatment plan? I dont have a clue what type of breast cancer ive got.Although i dont really want to know as long as they treat it, thats all im bothered about and the fact that they know what they are doing…
They also to me it was localised which i also found a bit confusing. And why are they calling it a partial MX and not a lumpectomy? he said id loose the bottom of my breast because thats where my lup is.i guess i need to ring the clinic but im dont want to be discussing it in front of the kids.

Hiya - I was told I had cancer the same day that I attended the breast clinic after being referred by my GP. I had 4 core biopsies done 3 days later (It was a bank holiday weekend!) I also had a SNB (sentinel node biopsy) Once the results came back and they knew what type and grade of cancer they were dealing with - then I got the treatment plan. My plan was neoadjuvant chemotherapy (which means before the main treatment which was a mastectomy) I had 4 x EC and 4 X TAX - three weeks apart. Then a full mastectomy and full axillary clearance (all lymph nodes removed at the same time) My op was 4 days before Christmas 2011. Then in February I had 15 radiotherapy treatments. My cancer type was invasive lobular, grade 3 stage 3a and it was in 10 out of 11 lymph nodes in my armpit.

Localised breast cancer is good - it means that the cancer should be early stage and not spread to surrounding tissue. Partial mastectomy is where they remove not just the lump but the surrounding tissue. Did they explain why they want you to have chemotherapy? Have you been appointed a breast care nurse? She is the person to ring if you have any questions about what is going on.

I

Hiya,

I think i have to have chemo just as a precaution. I shall ask that question.I will speak to my nurse but its being difficult at the moment because my kids are at home and i don’t really want to discuss it in front of them.
I am going to write down a list of questions because obviously i was in shock mode when they told me plus i was on my own. However i did manage to take some of it in…if that makes any sense…with me it goes in one ear and out of the other…lol.
I was just amazed on how quickly they diagnosed me in that one day, although i was in there 6hrs, thinking it would be 10 mins…lol then soon as i had all the tests etc the next step discussing my op then rads and chemo…im just glad i havent had to wait like some people.
It is a fast track clinic so i think each clinic is different so some cant tell you a diagnosis straight away.
I was relieved that i knew what it was…i know its bad news but at the end of the day its at its early stages.

Karen where are you , you are lucky to find out straight away, I have been waiting 1 month, it wi be on weds, it is good that we have found our lumps now, like you said what would have happened at 50, are you on Facebook hun would like to add you on also Iam thinking of starting up a Facebook page for breast cancer hugs Hun xxxxxx
