Hi, I saw the BBC news this morning and I’ve just sent this to Asda in response. I know they have withdrawn Katie but I fail to understand why they think a model with FAKE boobs that were added as a means of making money was a good advertisement for Breast Cancer. I do not think that responding that she ‘knows’ someone with breast cancer or that she ‘makes money’ for the campaign makes her an appropriate choice. It is annoying enough that high street stores use models for mastectomy bras instead of us real cancer vixens. Now we have Asda thinking it is ok to select someone who enhanced herself for profit to front a campaign for people like me!!
I will never shop at Asda again and I do not think that simply removing her from the public front of the campaign is enough. Her clothing range should also be taken out of the stores if they really want to prove to us they care as so far from this forum, and the fact their email boxes are still full they are demonstrating that they clearly do not…
Asda you keep saying,
We should be breast aware,
You tell us of your charities,
Say you have some thoughts to share.
And yet your tickled pink campaign,
Seems to have a nasty side,
To all us cancer vixens,
Who wear their scars with pride.
You seem to think that perfect,
Is the only way to be,
So you used a glamour model,
As the face that we will see.
Now she has said some awful things,
You’ve took her off the site,
But can I make a small suggestion,
If I may and if I might?
To show us that you really care,
Don’t just remove her name,
Remove her clothing from your store
And hang your head in shame!
Next time you need some model,
To sell you’re tickled pink,
Try to act more wisely,
Yes, have a little think.
Don’t choose some ‘glamour’ model,
Whose assets are quite fake,
Because she choose to be like that,
So money she could make!
How about instead you choose,
Models who really know,
Use us cancer ladies,
To demonstrate and show!
We may not be quite perfect,
But we are woman who can say,
We have battled very bravely,
Yes we have fought to stay.
Please prove to me you’ve noticed,
For my faith in you is shattered,
Tell me how you plan to change
That my poem to you has mattered.
I was a loyal customer,
But for now I’ll shop elsewhere,
Until you find a way to show,
To me you really care….
A very angry cancer vixen
ps I’m happy to put my money where my mouth is and model for breast cancer campaigns and I’m pretty sure lots of other woman are so Asda and BCC use us !!!
