Katie Price / Tickled Pink Campaign

I agree BC is too often trivialised. People out there need to know how serious BC is and that too many people are still dying from this dreadful disease. They need to know that BC is not a month just for buying pink fluffy stuff once a year, to raise money for a tacklesly named campain fronted by a totaly inappropriate page 3 pin up. WELL DONE DEBS, SHARON AND CATHY, you were all brilliant and did a great job of getting the point across and thank you for representing all BC sufferers.
I felt the BCC rep skirted round most of the questions presented to her and looked very uncomfortable. Might i add, where was the rep from Asda?

Luv to u all, Pauline xxx

I think the point was made very well - thank you Debs, Sharon and Cathy. I dont see why real cancer sufferers cannot be used for these campaigns as they are a real identification point as everyone knows someone affected by cancer.

Well done to the team of BC men and woman.
Dx

Well done Debs and Cathy who I watched at 8.20am but wasn’t up early enough for the other interview, sorry.

Thought you both spoke very well but the bcc spokesperson didn’t.

Well done all of you, particularly Debs for starting it and Cathy for speaking on TV so well. I have been following this thread since it started but didn’t feel up to responding as my disdain and dislike for KP’s moneygrabbing and self-promotion tactics might be overwhelming the discussion.

I thought Cathy was particularly good but I was very disappointed that ASDA were noticeable by their absence - it is their product and photoshoot after all. And BCC were also very disappointing - the rep never answering the questions directly, skirting around the issue and not really saying anything meaningful. Shame she couldn’t actually say that BCC thought it was inappropriate to use KP as we hope they really think. I think they should admit that was the case.

I think the last point at the very end of stopping using these endless so-called ‘Celebrities’ - to promote things was the best point. I am sick of having these plastic enhanced women shoved down my throat. Get some real women who know what they are talking about out there. I personally look towards Kylie far more as my role model and would think someone like her was far more appropriate.

Again, well done for starting such a good debate and for getting a great bit of publicity for all of us who also don’t think there is anything pink and fluffy or ticklish about this awful BC.

Helen

Well said rachel and your OH, 16K is just false eyelash money to KP. Hardly hard work either, don’t see her standing in the rain on a cold wet saturday morning, running a car boot sale. Ordanary people work very hard and raise thousands and thousands every day for BC but they dont need to appear in the media day after day to tell everyone about it. They do it because they love and care about people who have been affected by BC.
Hopefully she may feel the need to donate some of her own money now to help put this right, but again we will all probably have to read about it in the papers though.

Luv Pauline xxx

Well done for getting the media’s attention on this. I hope it will provide the impetus to look at the whole pink October brand in a more thoughtful and appropriate way.

Hi, I saw the BBC news this morning and I’ve just sent this to Asda in response. I know they have withdrawn Katie but I fail to understand why they think a model with FAKE boobs that were added as a means of making money was a good advertisement for Breast Cancer. I do not think that responding that she ‘knows’ someone with breast cancer or that she ‘makes money’ for the campaign makes her an appropriate choice. It is annoying enough that high street stores use models for mastectomy bras instead of us real cancer vixens. Now we have Asda thinking it is ok to select someone who enhanced herself for profit to front a campaign for people like me!!
I will never shop at Asda again and I do not think that simply removing her from the public front of the campaign is enough. Her clothing range should also be taken out of the stores if they really want to prove to us they care as so far from this forum, and the fact their email boxes are still full they are demonstrating that they clearly do not…

Asda you keep saying,
We should be breast aware,
You tell us of your charities,
Say you have some thoughts to share.

And yet your tickled pink campaign,
Seems to have a nasty side,
To all us cancer vixens,
Who wear their scars with pride.

You seem to think that perfect,
Is the only way to be,
So you used a glamour model,
As the face that we will see.

Now she has said some awful things,
You’ve took her off the site,
But can I make a small suggestion,
If I may and if I might?

To show us that you really care,
Don’t just remove her name,
Remove her clothing from your store
And hang your head in shame!

Next time you need some model,
To sell you’re tickled pink,
Try to act more wisely,
Yes, have a little think.

Don’t choose some ‘glamour’ model,
Whose assets are quite fake,
Because she choose to be like that,
So money she could make!

How about instead you choose,
Models who really know,
Use us cancer ladies,
To demonstrate and show!

We may not be quite perfect,
But we are woman who can say,
We have battled very bravely,
Yes we have fought to stay.

Please prove to me you’ve noticed,
For my faith in you is shattered,
Tell me how you plan to change
That my poem to you has mattered.

I was a loyal customer,
But for now I’ll shop elsewhere,
Until you find a way to show,
To me you really care….

A very angry cancer vixen

ps I’m happy to put my money where my mouth is and model for breast cancer campaigns and I’m pretty sure lots of other woman are so Asda and BCC use us !!!

Well done Debs,Cathy and Sharon.Debs you looked stunning, although I had a smile on my face remembering poogate!
You all did a fantastic job putting our point across.I am so proud to be associated with you!
Thank you so much for speaking out on our behalf
I have no gripes with what KP does for a living. Her career will continue as long as people will continue to buy the magazines and papers in which she features.Personally I prefer celebrities who deserve their status.
BUT Asda was so wrong to use KP.In fact, its impossible to think of anyone less appropriate!
Sharon made a good point about KP making money from this.Yes she donates £1 from each sale…but how much does she get?
£16,000 is nothing to her ,especially when you see what people on here have raised.
THANK YOU!
Dot

Hello everyone,

Radio Shropshire are running a discussion on Asda, Tickled Pink and Katie Price this morning. I e mailed a comment and was asked to speak on the programme - which I did.

Other are ringing in now to put their views - fantastic!

Janeyb

Hi All

I’ve been following the debate but not posted and missed the programme as I had to be at work by 8. Just wanted to say well done to everyone. Hopefully it will bring about changes in future.

Also yes, there are other ways of raising money while making people aware of cancer and without surrounding it in pink fluffiness. I think that over the years the pinkness has taken away the real message of why money is being raised.

I took part in Relay for Life this year (incidentally Sharon was taking part in the same event)which raises money for Cancer Research UK. Our event raised over £118,000 - just by oridinary people. However the event doesn’t shy away from telling the truth about cancer. At the opening ceremony I spoke about my experiences with breast cancer over the past year. Cancer survivors take part in a lap of honour - survivors defined as anyone who has had or who has cancer. There were also various ‘activities’ held during the 24 hour relay which promoted cancer awareness.

Once again well done to all you who have campaigned and spoken on TV and radio today - you’re all brilliant.

Lynn

Great job Debs, Sharon and Cathy. Thank you. Thought BCC rep was terrible and where was the ASDA rep? Speaks volumes really!
I never did get a reply to my e-mail, won’t hold my breath.

Well done to all involved.

xxxx

Well done ladies! Very proud that you have taken this so far and stood up to this huge company! Didn’t sleep well so missed the alarm to get up and see it! Will try and find on i player. Are you on again anywhere!?

Thanks,
xxx

I didn’t want naughtyniki’s poem to pass without comment - niki that was so good - I can’t find other words LOL. Thank you.

Also several have remarked on the BCC rep’s comments and I just wondered if you all realise that they brought out the big guns for the interview. Diana Jupp is Director of Services I believe, not just someone sent on to take the rap. Someone said the remarks were typical of a politician. I just wish that she had been able to say that BCC had made an error of judgement. Even though ASDA have been completely crass in using KP Surely agreement to using her has to have come from BCC.

For those who havent seen our ‘girls’ BBC News24 seem to be running it at intervals, although without the BCC response when I saw it just now.

Dawn

Hi,

I’m a relatively new member here and not very computer ‘savvy’ but I think I have found a link to view the BBC new broadcast clip.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8278538.stm

Hope this works - if not, I’ll give it another try.

Well done to everybody!

Well done to you all. Debs, I loved how you dropped Tickled Pink into it and wish the presenters had picked up on that in the studio interview.

Too bad Asda couldn’t send a rep as I felt that BCC had to tread carefully so as not to dump their corporate sponsor in it. Having worked for charities and corporate sponsors I know that it’s really hard to say “No, we don’t like that” to the hand that feeds you, but I have little sympathy for BCC as they have been hearing the discontent about Pink October/Tickled Pink for a very long time now and disregarded it. Having now seen one of their major sponsors faced with negative publicity, perhaps they will have more gumption to stand up for the women they purport to represent when the next marketing genius proposes another incongruous idea.

Well done Debs and thanks.

Thanks AlexG the link works.

Mx

well done and thank you debbie sharon and cathy worth getting up early for Hope to see it on the main news. Pity Asda didnt send a representative
Hilary

yes dawn i loved that poem too!

just wanted to say thank u to Debs n Sharon BRAVO (no pun intended)

i have to say tho’ as i have been thinking about this a lot … it would be interesting to see - if asda dont drop her product as well as her face from the campaign - if the sales from KP’s lingerie drop because of this issue (although i doubt that many non BC ladies would agree with us) but for the fact that she has got more of a hate fan base now that a loving one!

and as for Dainne Jupp - i am sorry but your anweres were that of a politician, not answered directly or honestly. You avoided the questions and would not admit that you were behind Asda in the decision to accept KP as an advocate for your charity; SHAME ON YOU WOMAN!

I saw the 8.20 broadcast and was cheering Debs on as she said about Tickled Pink. Thank You for speaking out and may I say how great you looked. Perhaps they will use BC persons now and the public can get a better idea of how c*** this disease is and how it b*****s up your life. It really is not pink and fluffy. Thank you once again. WELL DONE. Marion.

Haven’t seen the broadcast but heard you on the radio. Well done and thanks for taking this up, you speak for many of us unfortunate to get this disease. I saw the ridiculous kp on her reality show and was really offended by her “scarred t*ts” comment. I’m having chemo and will have surgery in Noevember - and I just know I’m not going to be “tickled pink” by my “enhanced” body.

Asda - you have got it sooooo wrong. kp is just thick - I don’t even think she wrote the response, supposedly from her, posted on here - far too articulate. She doesn’t give a monkeys. And whilst I would not wish BC on anyone - how would she ever feel a lump in those ridiculous bazookers of hers? Think on kp.
