I don’t often post on these forums But would like to congratulate the ladies on what they have achieved. Asda had already taken action to drop KP by the time I found out about this or I would have posted sooner. I must admit I am at a complete loss to understand why anyone in their right mind would think that KP was in any way an appropriate celebrity to be associated with a breast cancer charity.
I asked my 20-year-old daughter if she could think of a celebrity who would be the most inappropriate and she came up with KP. needless to say she could not believe it when I told her that that is who was actually being used.
I also had lunch today and the five other people I was with were absolutely horrified even the three men amongst them couldn’t understand why she’d been chosen.
Have now managed to watch the link - really well done Debs and Sharon - you put your points across brilliantly.
I am so pleased that KP has been dropped, have never heard of anyone so inappropriate being used for such a thing, also hate the Tickled Pink title, it’s quite sickening.
Hi Lenny,
the ITN was a satelite link up and no you have no idea what they will ask so you may prepare but if they don’t ask the question you hoped for it is just tough luck. I think that is what makes most people nervous about appearing on camera.
Love Debsxxx
So proud of you Debs. Saw you on Breakfast - taped the whole programme! Thought you,Sharon and Katie were excellent. Nice to see you in your home surroundings too and to picture you there. Thought you looked fab. You are amazing - hope it’s not all too tiring for you. So glad Asda have dropped KP but can’t believe how inappropriate the choice of her was in the first place!
Anyway let’s hope this provides a great opportunity for us to tell it like it is and make some changes in how BC is perceived and understood.

I just dont know why we need to dress cancer up into something its not. This is hard on all of us, our family and friends.
Why can people not understand about cancer and see real people with real problems. There is hope and there is sadness and in between there is all that no one wants. So lets hear about a campaign that celebrates the fighting of the disease and the success stories built on the backs of the people that went before us.
We choose us so let ASDA and PR, Charities, choose us.
***** I HAVE NOT BEEN OFFENDED BY ANY COMMENTS ON THIS SITE.
Dx
Some organisations do choose ‘real sufferers’ i recently took part in an article for Holland and Barret published in this months magazine ‘Healthy’ about BC and its affect on relationships. Unfortunately i wasn’t very well the week they wanted to send a photographer round so they used one of me looking V bald , but hey ho if it helps and i suppose thats what i looked like during my treatment.
A Big thank you Debs and Sharon for all your hard work and for puting across so well how we feel about KP and BCC and Asda. Debs and Sharon it was lovely to “meet” you and see you both on TV. We get to know your Posts on this site but lovely to put a face to the name. You both are lovely looking women, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. I do not know why BCC needed to put the comment about the terms and conditions. I cannot see what they mean unless it is that we have stated we are disappointed with the BCC representative and what she DIDN’T say. BCC obviously do not want us slagging them off! I would love to see a proper post from BCC telling us they apologise for their part in the campaign and to me their ONLY concern seems to be the amount of money they rake in. How about how WE FEEL. As a BC sufferer for 20 years I am really disappointed it their reply and as for a telling off…it is just not on. Scottishlass/Val
Hello
just wanted to reiterate thanks to Debs and Sharon - I hadn’t seen any of the coverage today, my OH told me when he came in from work. He also passes his congrats about how well we have been represented. I had just received a response from ASDA to my complaint, which just defended their position by saying the bc charities involved were happy with KPs involvement. Still difficult to work out how anyone could think it was acceptable to use such a shoddy representative. What you have reflected Debs and Sharon is that there are some things that money just can’t buy - like dignity, integrity and respect. So from me (and Will, my OH)a big THANK YOU for your work today
best wishes
Monica
ps - the comment about T’s & C’s also left me bemused
xx
I’ve just seen the iplayer clip and also wanted to thanks Debs and Sharon, well done for taking part and doing such a good job. I do so agree with the comments on the inappropriate use of ‘tickled pink’ as a campaign slogan, well said!
(I guess we must spare a thought for the men that get diagnosed with BC and have to put up will all the ‘pinkness’ every
October.)
well done to you both for standing up for all of us,
i was also offended by Asda using Katie, they really couldn’t have thought about it much.
i was dx 4 years ago in pink October so couldn’t avoid the pinkness!
the tickled pink name also winds me up, cancer is not cute and fluffy as the tickled pink name makes you think.
Hi Everyone. Just got back from holiday yesterday, so only just seen all this!! Wanted to add my 2penneth.
I have nothing against KP, she is only doing what she does to make money and it’s what she does and the public pay for it then all power to her. I am also sorry to hear someone close to her has this crappy disease.
However, I also don’t think she is appropriate either for this, or any breast cancer related campaign, and she certainly doesn’t represent me and how my life is turning out, nor by the passion and expressionsin this thread, any of you either.
Have read all through the thread, watched the videos, and I would like to say… WAY TO GO EVERYONE. Just goes to show what can be achieved when the media want to listen and people shout loud enough and you all did that so well.
An enormous well done to Debs & Sharon on representing us so eloquently and telling it like it is, wow, everyone has really done a great job on getting the honest truth out there on this one and you all changed the world by your actions.
OK, time to ‘fess up’, it was me on 5 Live (if anyone caught it - bit last minute arranged!) on at 7.40 this morning, speaking with Diana Jupp. It was also me (no laughing please) on the ‘red sofa’ with Diana at 8.20. Flipping early start for these but I don’t care, it was so well worth it and I’ve got energy for this, it deserves it!
I really wanted to say a huge thanks to Debs (for starting the thread), Debbie for the strength and courage in contacting and taking the whole BBC1 thing forward (which is why I was approached to speak in the first place) and, of course, Sharon. Thanks also to Sarah Stewart (BBC producer) who did a hell of a lot of ‘running around’ on Thurs/Fri to ensure these interviews took place.
I hope I didn’t appear too ‘over positive’. I didn’t want to use BBC time to ‘rant about KP’ as that’s been done to death now (and I don’t want us perceived as a bunch of bitter women becaus then people stop listening to us) and it was time to ‘celebrate’ the chance for change and focus on moving that forward and tv time is precious time to promote this. I know there have been some negative reactions to Diana’s responses but after having spoken with her for a good hour or so (and I’m the biggest cynic on the planet - well, nearly!), I truly believe there is a reason to be hopeful for the way BC campaigns are marketed in the future. During the interviews, there was no time to rehearse or prepare (you have to answer fast and immediate - not as easy as it seems and you can’t control what will be asked). Also, due to the position she holds in BCC, Diana can’t be seen to slate BCC (would be like ‘shooting yourself in the foot’) or KP (if she slates BCC and people start to perceive this as a ‘bad’ charity, then they won’t donate - not the best outcome). If this b*start disease is every going to be beaten, we need all the funds we can get!). I truly believe that Diana IS p*ssed off about the KP/ASDA situation (and has apologised about the offence caused but is limited to what she can realistically ‘put out on air’ about this), and wants to ‘turn the page’ as much as we do. So, we’ve been given the chance to actually become involved. How many charities do that? … let’s not waste it! We hate pink … OK so let’s take the opportunity to bury it and change the ‘colour’. This is ‘our’ charity too.
Everyone should be so proud here. Voices were heard, action was taken and an outcome achieved - we should all savour today … and indeed the last couple of weeks.
OMG, this is far too long, I’m tired. Night night! With much love and respect to all. Cathy xx
PS: I can’t find the 8.20 slot where I was speaking with Diana which is a shame as some good points were made and I’d like to watch it back - thanks for the kind comments received from those who saw it xx
WELL DONE DEBS!! How fantastic of you to take action even though you haven’t been feeling good. Thank you SO much for putting the point across that we and our loved ones are NOT TICKLED PINK! Who on this earth could possibly think that is an appropriate phrase? It was lovely to see you the TV Debs and you looked fab. My husband and I watched the broadcast together this morning and we were thrilled that someone had spoken out for us. Thank you!
Hi Cathy…hey well done you. It was good to hear, see, you got in the I’m ok for NOW bit…when asked how you were doing after diagnosis! I thought reporter Sian seemed very understanding.
I’m a bit cynical about whether things will really, really change re TICKLED PINK…some of us and many of them are now dead (no longer tickled pink, good friends, never forgotten) have been bringing up why the ridiculous, inappropriate, insensitive campaign name for literally years now…only with the Katie Price aspect coming to light has there been this coverage. We have never been listened to before and have only ever been told the campaign raises a lot of money etc. Money that is well used I’m sure but I can’t for the life of me understand why a leading cancer charity has gone along with this name for so, so long. K Price will no doubt be given a lesser role, she and her range may well be dropped altogether I don’t know. But will the Tickled Pink name be dropped? I would like, love to eat my cynical hat and hope, think it might but I’ll be very surprised, if I’m around next Autumn, if it has been.
I don’t wish to sound downbeat but this has been the way it’s happened before…I really hope change is in the air.
It’s a campaign name, that’s all, it seems so unimportant in the scheme of things but it sends out such a powerful message and like Debs said so eloquenty her family, my family, we ourselves and many thousands of others like us are not tickled pink we are going to die.
But well done everyone…I saw Debs on ITV via the ITN website.
If anyone hasn’t been following her thread on Secondaries Debs looked great on TV but she has had a very, very tough time lately.
Debs is a STAR…you spoke for so many of us and I know you were speaking for those lost on these forums. Love to you…xx
I understand the cynicism totally which is why I feel so passionately that now we’ve been given the ‘chance’ to change things (which is what we want), now’s the time to step up and see/help make it happen.
Lots of love to all. (I’m really off to kip now, up since 5.30am!) xx
PS: I got in the 'I’m ok FOR NOW bit because it’s all too easy for people to say ‘all clear’, ‘all clear’ when you can never guarantee this and I’ll (thanks to many on here) never be complacent.
Thought you all seemed very professional and said it good and clear without coming across as resentful (which previous posters have been accused of).
When I started this thread it was because of her comments especially while shooting a BC campaign, it was a smack in the face, not just to us but our relatives and friends. Her job in general doesn’t suit BC patients especially with our non optional and unwanted scars.
I just heard another BC friend died a couple of days ago (3rd this year), another young mum leaving kids still at primary school age, she never got to get her recon finished due to secondary cancer.
I’m fully aware we need funds and in order to do that we need awareness campaigns, but that awareness needs to be tasteful, appropiate to us, the charities, the public and in some cases who we leave behind.
Forgot to watch this this morning so have just managed to catch up on BBC iplayer, you did yourself and us proud, I couldn’t agree more when you said ‘husband kids and grandkids weren’t tickled pink when you told them i told them i had cancer’.
It’s also so much Sh***ier when it happens again.
I didn’t like Diana Judds interview, you and Sharon came across and put your points across very well.
So glad Katie Price got dropped, it’s not what we need seeing someone with really enhanced boobs for cosmetic reasons when our reasons are through no choice of our own, I loved my boobs but not now!!
