Katie Price / Tickled Pink Campaign

Hi All

Emailed Asda on Sunday and have finally had a reply copied below. Have also Emailed The Mirror News Desk to see if they will pick up on this. Just an unbelievably bad choice to represent sufferers of BC.

Love to all
Mel xx

Thank you for your message.

Dont know if this will help.

When I clicked on the link I just got the page up about contacting ASDA, but can’t find a link to a contact form to do this.

Click on the “I shop in store” and it brings up a page you can fill in.
Have just done this and sent my reply off to them.

Hi all …you have described all my feelings …this woman is a self obsessed trollop she is never out of the press good or bad …I may have had reCONl know it will never replace the real thing ,my husband has never seen me naked since BC in 2007 ,and a KP lingerie set is never gonna give me back what I have lost and make me feel sexy, the sight of her over inflated false breasts make me heave ,but hey dont the men just love em …I offered to let my boss have my prothesis to fondle cos he loves them much cos I cant really see the difference its all silicone !!! but i was met with what you moaning about you have had a boob job !!!..the woman is a bimbo and it is not about BC it is about her ,her profile and bloody awful TV Show …which appeals to the chav element of the nation and no one else !!!

Hi everyone,
well I rang my very good contact and they have been in touch, if anyof you live in the London area please p.m. me urgently.
Love Debsxxx

I agree with all of you - no I do not want this woman as a representative, and no Mr. PR man I am very concerned re ‘her choice to help in this campaign’ - being in the field of PR you know how much this kind of publicity is worth to anyone.

I think you clearly chose KP to represent ASDA not to represent breast cancer, and now I wonder if your response to this might be to find another charity to support, one more in line with your obvious opinion of your shoppers. (not a high opinion is it).

I’m sure there are many charities who would welcome your support, but I cannot think of one who would care to be represented in this way.

Given the statistics, some of your PR staff must have been affected by BC- why don’t you listen to them. They would surely have told you that a woman who has had cosmetic boob jobs, and lets face it not a great reputation, would not be the woman to front this campaign. As her friend as been affected I’m sure she would have been happy to have given her donation anyway.

You have got this so terribly wrong, and caused terrible offence and hurt - unforgiveable really and totally thoughtless.

If any of you are on Twitter you can message by using @asda - we need to bombard them for them to pick it up - am also doing @schofe for philip schofield.

This is important - this is feelings and this is us!

Asda are in this for their profits dont forget - while you are supporting cb buy buying their bras you are also going to be shopping and adding to their profits - good marketing ploy but as usual not the right attitude.

Good luck everyone.

Hey All

I’ve just got this back in response to my complaint logged thru the website -

I’m so sorry you feel so strongly against Katie Price being involved. She is just one of many celebrities who have offered their time for free to help raise awareness of the campaign, including Martine McCutcheon, Donna Air and Jessica
Taylor. We do approach lots of people but they are unfortunately unable to offer their time, as much they would like to.
Thanks to the continued support of customers, Asda colleagues and a host of celebrities the Asda Tickled Pink campaign has raised over £20million for Breast Cancer Campaign and for Breast Cancer Care. Both charities support our decision to use Katie as part of the campaign. Katie is donating her time for free in addition to £30, 000 of her money through sales of her products in store and we are extremely grateful for her
contribution. We know Katie doesn’t appeal to everyone, but as a close family friend is suffering with breast cancer, she really wanted to be able to show her support.
Once again we are sorry you feel so strongly about this but there are lots of customers who do relate to Katie and who are donating to the charity because of
her involvement.
Thank you for contacting ASDA.
Kind Regards

…Hmmm…I’d link to think that Breast Cancer Care DON’T support Asda in using Jordan! …Do you BCC???

Hazelx

I used to teach the teens that ‘shops are not your friends’ and think that the response from asda proves it - of course Jordan (is the one that poses) doesnt mind doing it as she is selling her merchandise in their stores - you think she will say no - part of the deal is to sell her stuff so what is 30k??? How many asda stores around the country??? They are there to sell and make profit and how they do it is not always in an honest and dignified or thoughtful way.

Shops are not our friends so Tickled Pink could change their rep but then would not the rep step down and not get a mention of her other merchandise in store???

People are not going to go and just buy a bra and walk out - they will look around the store and maybe change from Tesco or other. The knew what they were doing when they grabbed Peter Andre (its good for him) as if you go to buy the CD and he will sign it again while your at Asda you may as well look around and buy something. If 3,000 turn up for a signing maybe even a third to buy something else its still profit at £1 per person min.

Anyhoo people I am with you and may not be as ill as some of you but I am with you all the way.

That’s really interesting Hayz… and like you I’d like to know BCC’s thoughts on this.
BCC have you supported Asda’s decision to use Katie Price in their campaign?
For Debsincorwall, Hi Debs, the PM system went a little crazy and I think I accidentally sent you 3 PM’s! Sorry!..the last one I sent is probably the full message…Belinda…x

They still dont get it do they, its nothing to do with her having friends with cancer of giving her time for free, she could have done that without the pouting, overt sexual poses etc etc more befitting to a lads mag shoot… why cant they understand that´s what has got everyone so hot under the collar??? She could have shown her support in a much more subtle way and maybe people would have warmed to her slightly more. ASDA service team why are you being so deliberately obtuse with your standard response?

How my heart has sunk to learn that Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign have supported the decision to use Katie Price as part of this campaign.

You see you cannot criticise KP for offering her time or her money - but organisations who are supposed to know about bc, what it does to us, how it often means that our bodies our often mutilated sometimes at least, and ultimately it means an early death for many, how on earth could BCC support this.

Is there any real empathy is this organisation, because I would understand this if it were the actions of the ignorant, but BCC you have no business being ignorant. Tell me also why you have not used some influencing skills to get ASDA to change the name from ‘tickled pink’ - i mean honestly do you think it’s inappropriate.

I feel we’ve been stabbed in the back by our own organisations.

Hi all,

Just to let you all know we have noted all your comments on this thread and the BCC Press Office have been informed who will hopefully clarify the situation tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Jo, Facilitator

Hi

My message to Asda has come back for the third time, mail box full. I do not think that it is full of compliments on their campaign.

I feel that the people at Asda and BCC dont get it, they think we should be grateful that they are raising money on our behalf. Well sorry I dont want my breast cancer to be thought of as ‘Pink and fluffy’ and most of the women I speak to agree with me.

I do feel that where ever we can, we need to rock this boat real hard until someone gets the message!!!

Linda

Hi Celeste, for me you have hit the nail on the head with your posting. The other year BCC chose to call their October campaign ‘‘In the Pink.’’ So Asda (unfortunately) don’t have the monopoly on inappropriate campaign names. Love Belinda…x
