Ooops - please ignore, deleted what I originally posted, wasn’t reading properly d’oh! I’m ER pos too…oh well. Sounded good for a brief moment there.
Hi everyone
Well I’m confused! Just looked on Ladycare Magnet website and it seems to indicate that LM is suitable for use for those of us on tamoxifen. I’m ER+ to. Hmmmmmm, does anyone know for definate if it’s a yes/no for tamox users … I’d really love to run out and buy one tomorrow - perhaps check with pharmacist (I’m afraid I trust them more than my useless Dr!!)
Lots of love. Cathy x
Before I bought mine I emailed the company giving them my details - ER pos - and a doctor emailed me back and said it was safe to use. My onc knows I’m using it and she’s interested to see if it actually helps.
Thank you cass, sounds like it may be OK afterall (I’m ER+ too) - I’ll have a quick word with pharmacist and BCN and post back what they say but it’s sounding positive if you’ve been advised it’s OK.
Thanks again. All the best. Cathy x
Hi everyone, me again!
I’ve just spoken to Ladycare advisor and he says magnet is ‘totally safe’ to use. I did reiterate that I was ER+ and taking tamoxifen but he was adamant that this would not be a problem. Can’t speak to Onc Dept at the mo and BCN didn’t know about any adverse risk.
Thanks again Cass, I really want to get one of these, just super-careful as paranoid about ER+ stuff!
Lots of love to all. Cathy x
Cathy,
Totally agree with you about wanting to be extra-careful. I don’t think the magnet increases the hormone levels, it’s more to balance what’s already there. I am getting on well with it but if info emerges to say it shouldn’t be used in hormone pos bc, then it’ll have to go.
I double-checked the email response I received from the company months ago and it def states that it is suitable for use in horm pos bc women. I’d be very interested to hear what your onc says.
Take care,
Pat x
Hi Pat
My BCN Tracy (superstar!) has phoned me back (despite being very busy - thanks Tracy), to say that the Onc she asked said she thought ladymagnet would be safe so I reckon I’m going to give it a go!! I can’t find anything to confirm that ER+ patients shouldn’t use this and I’ve had a good look.
Thanks again Pat. Love to everyone. Cathy x
hi all, help!! had ovaries out on mon, dont know what or how its all going to hit me!!! also dont know if i can take anything all i was told was i could not have tamoxifen, any advice please??zsazsa
Ah the see-saw of decision making.
Might just go online and order mine now then…
Order placed.
Hello,
We just thought it might be helpful to chip into the discussion here. The 2009 guidelines issued by NICE (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence) do not recommend the use of magnets to help with menopausal symptoms after breast cancer. This is not because of evidence that shows that they are dangerous- only that there isn’t any reliable evidence to say they are effective. If you’d like to have a look at the guidance, I include a link to this below. The reference to the magnetic devices is on page 16.:
nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG80QuickRefGuide.pdf
If you’d like to read Breast Cancer Care’s booklet about things that can be tried to help with menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, I also include a direct link to this below:
breastcancercare.org.uk/upload/pdf/Menopausal_symptoms_factsheet_BCC18.pdf
We also run information sessions about menopausal symptoms that are held at various locations throughout the UK so I include a final link to the section of our website where these are discussed:
breastcancercare.org.uk/server.php?show=nav.522&PHPSESSID=1f6406ebeccce7d8a1069a1c1cec069a
If you would like to discuss any of this further you are welcome to phone our helpline and speak with one of our nurses or trained helpliners - the freephone number is 0808 800 6000 Monday - Friday 9am-5pm Saturday 9am -2pm.
Kind regards
Nursing Team
Hi Louise, thanks for posting that.
That, to me, translates as ‘there’s no risk’ in using these magnets, just no ‘clinically proven’ benefits??
I’m going to try one of these (had surgery for ER+ HG DCIS). If there were any risks, I assume NICE guidelines would have noted this. I spoke to pharmacist at Boots who double checked that there shouldn’t be any risk and, apparently, these are being ‘cleared from the shelves as soon as they arrive’, so, although I’m not a gullible fool(?!), there could be something in it and for £20, if there’s something that can help with SE’s from taxom, then I’m ‘in’. Guess this is a ‘decide for yourself’ situation …
Lots of love to all. Cathy xx
Arrived - 1st day of using today.
Keep you updated
Sleeping like a baby already…
Wow that sounds good - decent sleep has escaped me for a long time!! Think I’ll be getting one of these.
hi everyone,
I’ve recently started using this as well and there is an improvement in my hot flushes. I feel one building up and then it just fades away, they are definately not lasting as long as they used to. I’m also taking catnip (yes catnip) tea which is supposed to reduce fever so I don’t know if it’s a combination of the two that’s helping.

Hi Louise from the nursing team.
I just read your post about attending meetings on How to Manage Your Menopausal Symptoms. The info says it is for managing menopausal symptoms arising from your treatment. I am not taking hormone therapy due to bad side effects but I am experiencing menopausal symptoms due to the natural menopause. Before my diagnosis of bc I was taking supplements with soy isoflavones and eating a diet high in phyto oestrogens and this helped my symptoms. I have stopped doing this because I am not sure if it is bad for me - my bc was oestrogen positive. I would like advice on managing the symptoms I have even though they are not as a result of my treatment. Would one of these sessions be suitable for me?
Thanks
Maude
Hi Maude,
If you would like to give the helpline a ring after the weekend they should be able to tell you if one of the sessions would benefit you. Lines open again on Monday at 9am til 5pm (M-F) and Sat 9-2
