ld flap

hi ladies, got my date for ld flap 15th nov,im very scared can anybody tell me what to expect x

Hi Drabble
glad you have a date for recon. You will be fine!! I had an ld flap & implant in nov last year and really happy with how it looks and feels. Make sure you do the physio exercises after the op as they get you back up
and fit again more quickly. Also get some front zipping sports bras for post surgery for ease of getting on/off…m&s have a good one.
Seems like a long time away, bit it will feel so different when you wake up with a bump on your chest.

Cat xx

thanks cat, wish it would hurry up so i can get it over with,im 45 and i had a mascectony 2 years ago, been reading on here and its put me off abit xxxxx

Hi Drabble. I also had ld flap last November and am very pleased with the results. Was in hospital for 6 days and had no complications at all. It was uncomfortable for a few weeks and even now my back aches when I’ve done too much, but I have full movement in my arm and that is down to doing the exercises - it really is worth doing them! The pain was not too bad had morphine for a couple of days. Get yourself a v-pillow for when you are in bed or resting on the sofa. I was really glad I had it done and don’t regret it at all … Just got one more tax to go and a reduction and uplift then I’m done! Good luck!!!

Hi drabble,

Wish you all the best when time comes. Just had masectomy and ld flap and four weeks on recovering well and very pleased with results. Absolutely no regrets at all. In all surgery took 5 hours and apart from some build up with fluid had no other complications and was out of hospital on day four. Looking forward to final nipple reconstruction later in year then all finished!

Hi drabble, good luck with surgery next month. i had ld flap in july last year and spent 5 days in hospital. I didnt have any real pain just discomfort from the drains. Eight months on and I still smile to myself when getting dressed as i look completely normal in a. Bra. I have no regrets since having the opeeration and hope you feel the same. Good luck. Xx

thankyou so much, just cant wait till its over with, gonna love looking great in nice tops x

Hi, spooky coincidence, I actually did have my recon on 15th novemeber, and my surgeons name was Mr.Drabble! Xx

Hi Drabble, Have missed your posts on here. Perhaps you have been on different threads frm me?
Remind me please…Is an ID flap the same as an LD flap? If so I had an LD flap done in 1989 and the results still look good. I think it was in the early days of this kind of surgery but the team of Plastic Surgeons at my superb hospital did a really good job. Happy to show it if anyone uncertain about it. Love Val

hi sarah very spooky how did your recon go,hi val i was talking to you on facebook, yes im having the LD flap, cant wait to get it over with much love dawn x

HI scottishlass. I’m glad you posted that comment here. I had LD flap last November and haven’t met anyone that has had one so long ago! I am really happy with it now and it’s great to think it’s going to look good years later.
Thanks
Rachelx

Hi Drabble, Have you had your operation. If so how are you doing?

Hi Rachel (pinkrose), Yes my reconstructed breast still looks good.
Anyone else had a reconstruction that has lasted so long?

Hope all is well with everyone, love Val

Hi
I had a ld flap operation two and a half weeks ago. I’m so happy with the results but in the last couple of days have had intermittent sharp back pains. Feels like muscle spasms. Maybe I’ve overdone it. Good news is that I have good arm movement. Good to read about other good experiences here. Good luck Drabble!

Hi

I’ve just been diagnosed and have to have a mastectomy. I’m getting married at the end of May but have been told I can put it off until after then. Hoping to delay it until after a holiday too! i’m due to meet the surgeon next week and discuss what sort of immediate reconstruction can be done. So far it’s been recommended that I have an LD flap. I’m writing up lots of questions to ask. One of them which perhaps I can ask some of you about, is how helpful is it to do lots of exercise beforehand? I’m really worried about scarring on my back, almost as much as I am about losing the breast.

I’m an E cup, but only a small back so really worried that they’ll need lots of skin to make a breast…perhaps I should get the other breast reduced so they don’t need to build such a large one? Any thoughts?

I can’t tell you how helpful it is to read your experiences. You feel very alone even with a wonderful partner and friends. Although actually most of them aren’t going to be told til after the wedding - i don’t want any long faces. Thanks so much for posting.
Alison

Hi Alison

Congratulations on your wedding! Sorry you’ve found yourself here. I had an LD flap immediate recon last November and am very pleased with the results. I was an E cup and will have to have my right breast reduced and uplifted to match my new breast later this year (my surgeon didn’t want to do both at the same time, he said it was best to wait until the new breast has settled and the swelling has gone). I had the flap and an implant which now makes me around a D cup which I’m really pleased about. The scar on my back is fading fast and is about 6 in long. The surgeon made sure the scar sits under my bra strap so I can’t see it at all. it’s very neat. They don’t take skin from your back, just the muscle underneath, so I think having a small back won’t be a problem - but don’t quote me on that! I didn’t have time to do any exercises before the surgery, but it is very important to do them afterwards.

It’s a great idea to write down all your questions. Have a fantastic wedding day, feel free to PM me if you feel you need any more personal experiences regarding your LD flap.

Rachel.
