How many kids ! It will be great fun. Soon they will be sulky teenagers costing us lots of money with little reward.
Fantastic news on the no disease in the boob thing. Wonderful.
I would get the reduction done ASAP its awful having one huge boob swinging around. I have often wondered what happens to our boobs ? I think they examine it all by histology, but what then ? A friend of mine used to get skin from mastectomies for his studies for his PhD (all with permissin etc).
Havent got my MRI appointment yet - will leave it to end of week before phoning. Hate following things up.
Little boy was banned from nursery for 48 hrs due to diahrea (spelt how) but he is fine. OH stayed at home to look after him as I cant on my own. They are having a fine time together and its nice in a way for them to have time w/o the baby.
Sorry not been here for a while…party, party, party! It went really well. There were 41 of the little darlings in the end. All but one were behaved impeccably - he was a biter, thumper & a spitter - bless him!! No to party bags…Been there, done that, never again. All ends up in the bin. No, I made cookies on sticks for them all to decorate & popped them in pretty cello bags with a ribbon to take home. I also did cone shaped cello bags filled with a selection of sweets again tied with a ribbon. Looked pretty & doubt much ended up in the bin.
Daughter was off school on her birthday. She has an ear infection & still not managed to shift the tonsilitis but it was nice having her home for her birthday.
How did it go with the genetecist by the way? Could they tell you much? Don’t think you’ve said.
Have got child free day today so can catch up with things. Everything in the house has gone to pot a bit since the op. Got health visitor coming in a bit to listen to my woes.
Let me know all your news. Did you sort out MRI appt?
Hi Alison
Sounds like you did a great job. Catherine is only 1 so we can get away with grandma and grandad as rent a party.
Hope you had a good chat to the health visitor etc. Youll catch up on house stuff eventually - Xmas has a lot to answer for. Havent found homes for all the toys yet.
Have been very achy since new year. My back is much better, but other aches have been awful, theycan come anytime anywhere and you could cry. Everone says its the drugs doing heir job, wish it would hurry up. Have MRI next week, in meantie had another ultrasound which was clear so that cheered me up. Genetecist hasnt coe up with reults yet !
Isnt the weather awful ? Hope it picks up soon. Centre Parcs for us 2nd week in Feb !
Know what you mean about the health visitors - we took Catherine for her 6-7 month check and I mentioned my OH was with me as I couldnt pick her up too good etc. Then explained why. She was so embarrassed that she hadnt known, and a lovely person. Think the problem is also that with 2nd baby you dont get so involved with health visitors etc from the beginning and if you give out the OK signals they leave you alone. She did mention helping in anyway etc. But at the time, at the end of chemo and surgery I thought I wouldnt need any help etc. But now I wish I had taken her up in some way, my OH is exhausted by looking after us all. On the other hand we turn to the nursery and book thme in extra as its a home from home. We can be all too independent though. The home start sounds good - if I was at home with Catherine and Tommy I would welcome something like that.
Pain has subsided a lot today and I feel the zometa is working on my back. Feel the pain is more like a side effect. Next infusion on Friday and I want to go even less that I did to chemo.
I am going to hire a mobility scooter thing for centre parcs - how else will I get about ? After I realised I could do this, I am really looking forward to it. We are going to Nottingham one. Have been once before and it was good fun. My brother and his kids will be there so they will al have a mad time and I can relax, also OH may be too.
Which charity was it again ? Your weekend sounds great, make sure you get a lie in. How will you get there, train ? Wonder what St pancras is like now.
Hope your aches and pains settle down, sounds like you overdid it to me, but you have to sometimes.
Hope it all went ok on Friday & that your side effects are not too bad. Did you get your MRI last week? Is that just a check up scan or are they looking at anything in particular?
Had appt with plastic surgeon last week. I’ll be having LD flap with Becker implant - apparently I don’t have enough fat on my stomach for the tummy tuck option - well that was news to me! After the steroids make me eat for the planet I beg to differ. Anyhow, I go back in April to give the go ahead & then it’s 5-6 month wait. They do the reduction on the megaboob a few weeks later to give the new one a chance to settle so they can match up better.
I want to go on holiday & spend some time with my boy before going through all that lot so am in no rush really, although I find the idea of getting through the summer with a prosthesis daunting.
I went commando at the school for the first time this week. I decided to go up there with my friend for security in case anyone said anything - no one did! Still haven’t. Either they know/have guessed about my treatment (I haven’t told any of them I’ve got BC) or they think my hair is so ridiculously short they think it better not to mention it. I’ve only had a couple of long stares but to be honest I’m a bit miffed. I went up there with all my defensive responses to their questions & I haven’t had to bat off any. I was at least hoping to get the chance to explain WHY I have such ridiculously short hair!!!
Hope you have had a decent weekend - at least the sun’s come out again.
Know what you mean its almost annoying when people dont react to your hair. Mine is back to normal now, just short.
Sounds like a good plan with the plastic surgeon, give yourself plenty of time between operations. I had my ovaries removed on Monday and am stiff and sore, although its nothing compared to the mastectomy its reminded me what a crap time it was. So spend some good time bfore the next op.
Had results from MRI of left breast, all clear, this morning. So relieved. It was done as I was convinced I had lumps and breast pain. But now I believe all is OK.
Little oy being taken to grandmas for a few days so me and OH can have some peace with just the 1 baby ! He has gone as good as gold. He also had a sleep over at a friends house which was a good hurdlr to get over. Now we know he can go there anytime its needed.
Sunny and rainy tiday think I`ll stay indoors in the warm.
Not sure whether you mentioned oopherectomy before, but glad you’ve got it all over & done with. At least now you know the evil oestrogen is now at bay! Hope you are recovering well & are not too sore.
I had a dream the other night that my boob had grown back…it was one of those where I had to check whether it had when I woke up. Made me a bit sad for the first time about losing the old girl, but am back to reality now.
We had a really productive weekend for the first time in months. I’m now starting to feel like getting things done. We’ve ordered some new stuff for the downstairs loo, got a new vacuum (the old one was only any good at blowing dust OUT) & have booked a holiday We go to the Canaries the first week in March. Just looking forward to some sunshine & getting away from these 4 walls for a few days.
Hope you’ve had a good time with the baby & no doubt your boy was spoilt rotten at Grandma’s!
Take it easy mate & have a great holday next week if I don’t “speak” to you before then.
Hi Alison
So glad to hear your getting into getting things done mode. Holiday sounds fantastic.
We had a good time at centre parcs, I really enjoed the 1st day but had to bow out of the second. Kids and all had a great time.
Had some bad news after my oophrectomy, the surgeon saw some strange cells on my liver while he was in there - am waiting on ct scan results to see whats what. But also the marker in my blood went way up instead of down so they decided to start chemo again as herceptin alone isnt working. Started this on Friday 8th, hence centre parcs was very tiring. Then ended up in hospital from Tusday until today as neutropenic and bladder infection. Now homw though and feeling alot better.
Chemo is taxotare with Xeloda. Here we go again. But its different to before as although Ive been through it this week I can feel its making my liver better and underneath I feel better. Fingers Xed CT scan shows not many cells etc.
Tommy spoiled again at grandmas and still there, baby girl is in high demand by many babysitters, she just gorgeous.
So sorry to hear your news. I’m amazed at how you are coping with it all. I take it from your message that you will still have the herceptin as well as the chemo? How many chemo sessions do you need to have?
Let me know how you are doing this week. When do you expect the CT results?
Please feel free to rant/growl/cry in my direction if it helps.
Glad you’ve got plenty of babysitting offers.
Am taking my boy swimming today for the first time since dx, am v excited - just hope my swimming boob doesn’t float awat though!
Thanks for message - hope you enjoyed the swimming and boob stayed in place. I wear my normal heavy one in the water, its fine. But then you have to transfer it in the changing rooms. Its never easy !
CT scan was as good news as we could expect - it is there, on the outside (seen by surgeon and regged edge on scan) and I have 3 small areas that in a normal person could be cysts - in me they are assumig not. The important thing is to get the chemo in me.
I was anemic aswell it turns out so had some blood on Friday which is really beginning to make me feel better. So I am not knocked too bad they`ll reduce the dose of taxotare and hold off the xeloda for this time. Am still on herceptin and zometa.
Jane
Sorry I’ve not been in touch - have been on holiday. We went to Gran Canaria which was fantastic. Just to get away all of us together to relax was priceless. It’s the first break we’ve had since dx so was rather overdue. We go to London next weekend for my treat - can’t wait, just hope the weather stays mild as don’t fancy sightseeing in the rain!!
So how are you doing? How did number 2 go? Have you managed to keep your hair this time? How are you, OH & son coping - I know your daughter is maybe too young to understand. I guess it’s coming up to her birthday soon - I hope you all have a great time whatever you decide to do.
You would have laughed at me coming down the kamakazee ride at the water park on holiday - trying the hold my nose & keep the boob in place at the same time was a sight to behold. Didn’t care if I lost my knickers but that boob was going nowhere. Have had my proper prosthesis fitted now (at last!) which matches up so much better to my good boob - I hardly notice it really.
Hope you are not feeling too bad & the ginger diet is doing the trick for the nausea.
Well got to pick daughter up from yet another party…not sure if she’s sick of them yet but I’m sure sick of taking her!
Take it easy & please let me know how you are getting on
Alison
xx
Hi Alison
Thanks for the message - I am not on here so much these days so was delighted to see the message.
Glad you had a good holiday - the weather has been annoying me, still so cold.
I have been really well since the last chemo, I didnt even need the anti-sickness tablets ! My back is still a tiny bit achy, but fantastic compared to before Xmas.
A good summary is that I can enjoy my life. I have been chatting to work about doing a few hrs a few times a week, but no official return. We are waiting on HR. I have asked for this as to me it would be good to be there again. Last chemo I was on maternity leave and looked after the baby. Now she`s in the nursery and very settled so I need something else to do - but not too much !
Baby isnt a baby anymore, she`s walking, and in the toddler room at nursery.
Little boy will be 4 in May, we had a letter from the school about settling in sessions in May and June. He wants a fireman party - so OH is looking into making a fire engine cake, he`s had 1 go but realised his sponge wasnt thick enough.
I know what you mean about the boob - managed to keep mine at centre parcs and little boy didnt mention it or try to look at it once.
He did on the other hand ask to wear mummies pretend hair in the cafe on Sunday (we`d let him try it on at home last week). I said no my head would be cold - he could wear it when we got home. He didnt persue it - not sure if anybody heard, hope it gave them a laugh if they did. It made me laugh.
How was London ? We are such country folk now in Ashby. Hope you enjoyed it.
We are trying to get tickets to see Lazy Town at De Monford hall next weekend - live it up.
I have been doing really well, had a blood top up on Tuesday and have been great since. Only real problem is me hair, wig is getting on my nerves. But if thats all Ive got to worry about shows you how good it all is.
Baby girl is walking really well - so I can enjoy pottering with her its great now you get that hr in the evening.
OH back to work next week, dont know if I`ll be glad of the peace and quiet or a bit lonely. Am planning to go to my mums for a few days.
How are you doing? Sorry I’ve not been on here much lately but have been so busy with the kids the time has just flown.
London was fantastic. A real treat, out of this world. Just a pity it was so cold it was snowing most of the time. The food at Claridges was wonderful - would definately recommend it.
Hope you got the Lazytown tickets - we went to see Playouse Disney the other week - it was ok but not a patch on Princesses no Ice that we saw last year.
I’m training for the Race for Life - have raised over £600 so far so hope I manage it. I have recently damaged a ligament in my knee though so that has put me back a bit. I am NO runner so not sure if I’ll be able to get to the required standard in time.
Hope you are enjoying the weather.
These Tamoxifen hot flushes are a nightmare now it’s warming up a bit…
Glad to hear you are well and enjoying life - not sure about the running. I have been on the cycling machine at the gym and am knackered afterwards.
Weather has been great, I am wearing scarf more than wig tho` as its too hot.
No longer on tamaxifen - due to ovaries out. But steroids from chemo making me hot. Chemo (taxotere) working really well - obvious signs like I feel well, not nausea from liver or tax. Lung function almost normal and Ca15.3 in blood down by 1/3. Just had 5/7. Scans at end to see if I`ll go onto Xeloda.
Hopefully get to caravan and beach for th BH.
I dont come on here so much anymore either - not much time as you say !
We did go see lazy town - fantastic.
My back is unbelievably good - I dont do much house work, but I never did ! Now I just dont feel guilty and have increased hrs of cleaner.
Good luck with run if I dont catch up with you before then
Glad to hear that you are doing so well - sorry it’s been so long me getting on here.
Good that your back feels better - isn’t housework a pain in the rear though? Never goes away esp with 2 little ones around. How are your by the way? My boy is just into everything, like a human dynamo - stuck a bead down his ear this morning, thought I’d have to be down A&E but luckily it slid out - think it was all the wax in there!!. Thankfully my daughter is 5 and half now so is beginning to show some signs of maturity so doesn’t need constant watching.
I expect your chemo’s nearly finished now. Thank heavens for that eh! Will they scan you again soon to check on the little blighters?
Think the scarf’s the best option in this heat - I remember my wig itching like crazy in the summer. They have their place but…
LOvely to hear from you havent been on for months.
I have finally finished my chemotherapy - 10 sessions. My OH and me both lost our mothers this summer. So its been exhausting
BUT, my scans are all good and I am in stable remmision. Will just have maintenance therapy of herceptin armidex and zometa. And monitor markers etc regularly !
So we booked a family holiday for half term. Majorca, kids friendly resort etc. Cant wait.
How are you getting on - any plans for reconstruction.
Hope your family is well. Tommy started school so thats been good fun and I am enjoying taking and picking him up Mom - Wed. Then OH takes over and I can have a lie in Thurs and Friday.
SO good to hear from you - and great news about your health too.
Fantastic that the chemo’s finished & doing it’s job. I couldn’t be happier for you.
How awful for you to lose your mum too through all of this. I am so sorry. As ever though your strength is an inspiration.
I’m good thanks. My reconstruction is scheduled for 22nd October & then when the implant reaches a size that I’m happy with I’ll have the other side reduced to match it. I’m hoping to have a nice little pair that I can easily fit into clothes rather than the great big bangers I’ve always been used to!
I go back to oncology in November for a check up - got all fingers crossed that all is OK.
Great that you have booked to go away - no-one deserves it more than you honey. I hope you all have a fantastic time. We went to Rome in July & had a ball. Everything’s starting to feel a bit more normal these days which is priceless.
Will let you know how the op goes - be sure to let me know how your holiday went when you get a chance.
How was the op ? Really interested to know how the implant goes as think I might go for that too.
Things are starting to feel a bit more normal as you say. Have to go in a minute to school to pick up. This morning felt good as it was first day out at school without my hat. Bit cold mind. Hair is thin but there, even more grey. I wil be glad when Nov has been and gone as I feel at the moment like I am just a the same place tghis Oct that I was last Oct. Starting to get better - hope I do a bit better this time.
Family wedding a the weekend, little girl is a flower girl. Think I am more nervous than was for my own wedding
Hope the wedding went well. Bet your little girl made you very proud.
Glad Nov has now arrived for you - I know what you mean, last Oct wasn’t much fun here either.
Well I’m almost 2 weeks post op now. I was apparently in theatre for 7 hours so it was quite a big deal. Was pretty spaced out for a few days and the pain following wasn’t too bad. The old morphine pump did it’s job. Couldn’t wait to get out of hospital though as couldn’t take another day of the food.
Since I’ve been out everything has been healing nicely & had to have a seroma drained yesterday. The only thing is I am getting terrible pain in my chest when lying down & pretty much can’t move in bed due to the ensuing pain. Will have to ask my BCN about it I reckon. But other than that there has been no real pain, just very tight across the back & chest.
Still got the prospect of having my other swinging boob raised to the sky & reduced but the thought of another general anasthetic is rather daunting right now. Will wait on that one but the massively differing cup sizes is proving to be a bra nightmare. Not helped of course by the seroma fluid (building up again I think) pain in my arm within a bra on (I had that after my WLE too but eventually settled down). So much more comfy braless but it’s not for general public viewing.
