March 2026 chemo starters

Wonderful news  absolutely no gardening but a nice stroll in the garden might do you good. Maybe with company though for you to lean on

That is really good news @wibbles . So pleased it all went safely and you are back home watching Gardeners World. You must be so relieved.

Sending love, hugs and continued strength.:heart::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::bouquet::bouquet::bouquet::flexed_biceps:

So pleased to hear your update @wibbles

Hey @foxgem

Something you said on another post regarding saving nipples during implant surgery peaked my interest, but I didn’t want to hijack the thread.

You mentioned getting chills due to menopause. I’ve been yo-yoing between hot flushes and sudden chills and I was a little concerned I might be ill, although my temperature is always fine and I genuinely don’t feel like there’s anything more to be concerned about than expected chemo side effects.

I’ve discussed my hot flushes with my oncologist, who has confirmed this will likely be due to “chemopause”, but I’ve only noticed the chills since I last saw her, maybe because the insane heat has now died down.

As I spend a lot of the night rolling around throwing off covers then pulling them back on again on a loop, any insight as to whether this is a thing would be greatly appreciated! Does this sound similar to your experience?

@mssteel not sure it helps but having been through natural menopause before cancer I’d say flipping between being drenched with sweat and then chilly is quite normal. Whatever normal means :joy:. It’s horrid but hopefully you won’t have it every night. I am 3 years post menopause and I still get night sweats from time to time. Just yet another gift of being female.

So pleased it went well @wibbles and hopefully minimal trauma for you. Try to get out in the fresh air if you can but don’t overdo it and rest lots

Stay strong with your decision @foxgem. I told my onco on Tuesday I wasn’t having Letrozole and to be honest I don’t think she could have cared less. No trying to persuade. Just signed me off till my next zolendric acid in January. It’s your body and you must be in control of what you decide to put into it. You’ve given so much already.

On a lighter note I also am growing hair like there’s no tomorrow- hands, feet, face :flushed_face:. But better than being bald! My brows and lashes are much darker than before which I’m pleased with. Embrace the hairy girl!!

Thanks @sam1204. It really doesn’t seem like anything serious so I didn’t want to phone the helpline and risk getting that person who wants me to leg it to A&E, but there’s always that “what if” niggle so it’s good to get others’ experience. There’s tons about the heat online but I can’t seem to find much on the chills. Appreciate the input!

I thought the same at first that maybe I had an infection somewhere but its been a while now and so I’m going to assume there’s no infection  I haven’t taken my temperature at all because ive not had any ill pains. Also I was getting the chill pre implants so I’m not worried about infection from that.

The chills can come out of nowhere like the hot flushes but they are also easily set off like the hot flushes. For example I was sitting on the sofa and the fan to the right of me slightly caught my ankle and the chills came haha. I actually prefer them to the hot flushes, they are shorter in length and just come and go. Not every day but often enough for me to notice them.

I am trying not to give myself a hard time about it. Like Sam said its just another part of being a women. We have suffered periods once a month for most our lives, this is just another thing we deal with. That’s what makes women so strong

According to chatgpt (my new chef/therapist) the drop in estrogen causes the hypothalamus part of our brain that regulates body temperature to be overly sensitive

What a coincidence, you have the same chef/therapist as a lady in my chemo unit  This makes a lot of sense. I think infection can be safely ruled out and I’ll just roll with the hot/cold thing like all the other punches that come along with this. Thanks @foxgem!

Hi, I’m ok ish. Waiting for scan results on the bowel cancer. There’s a chance it’s spread

Surgery & very likely chemo coming for me. Long way to go still…..

Hope you get your results soon @2kittens , the waiting must be hell.

Thinking of you and hoping the chemotheraphy for breast cancer has helped keep the other in check for you.

We already know the bowel cancer has grown & is outside the bowel, I’m waiting to find out if it’s spread.

:frowning: Kittens, may this weekend be gentle on you as you wait.

My DH is an idiot. He hid the real possibility he has either broken or badly torn a tendon in his index finger two weeks ago from me. Only found out when I accidentally squeezed his hand whilst out today. Refused to go to GP as I was due surgery and did the man thing. Dd said Gp on seeing said none moving pinky after I grassed him to her today. Gp not happy with said none moving pinky today so he will be at A&E tomorrow at the same regional hospital l was in for my SMX on Weds. I will be doing post op physio so l can dink him round the head for leaving Ìt so long. He could have popped to A&E whilst I was in theatre and recovery for a few hours as DD would have stayed with me.

If l can do chemotheraphy and all even with deep hospital based trauma surely a man can get an injured digit checked out before Ìt gets to the point it needs a specilist hand team to take a good look.

(You were all right, post breast surgery even with lymph node clearance is so much easier on the body than chemo so my feisty side is starting to resurface a bit. anaesthetist was lovely and used an iv anaesthetic to avoid using an uber traumatic mask and came and checked on me repeatedly in recovery.)

Hope DH finger heals properly. He was probably so worried about you, that he didnt want to say anything. Shows how much he cares.:heart::heart:
