March 2026 chemo starters

I think I had my first shedding today. I rinsed my hair in the bath this morning and then sprayed some leave in conditioner. Ive been very gentle with my hair and because its short I can do very little with it. Today though I combed it once it dried a bit and had a small flurry of hairs fell infront of my face :sob: only a few but I guess its the start. My scalp is very sensitive. I don’t understand why my scalp is sensitive but other hairy areas aren’t??? Such a weird and horrible side effect

Without getting into too much detail :joy: I’ve had a bit of sensitivity in a few other ā€œhairyā€ areas. And my scalp can be itchy. But the weirdest thing for me is that my underarm hair hasn’t fallen out, it’s just stopped growing! I can’t remember last time I shaved it but there’s just no growth. Just stubble. Hair legs I have seen fall out when I rub with towel. Arm hair is patchy. But the underarm is just weird! Am almost half way through now and desperately hoping I hold onto my eyelashes and eyebrows - so far so good :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:. @foxgem you might just be having a bit of thinning rather than actual loss. Let’s hope so

Yep armpit hair has stopped growing and the same with the leg hair

No wonder we are all so cold with this lack of hair !!

How is everyone doing ? I’m 3 ec down and starting doce next week

Bracing myself for it :frowning: was meant to be this week but delayed a week due to bank holiday

Feels like at times it’s never going to end , and feel like I have lost part of myself

But I feel like a will be a stronger version of myself at the end of this :folded_hands:t2:

Hey @bird25 how did you find the 3 x EC? I did my 1st of 3 EC 2 weeks ago and then move on to 3 docetaxel after that!

My 1st round wasn’t too awful I’m just very tired and can’t even imagine how tired I’ll feel after another 2 :joy:

How are you feeling about starting doce? Xx

Oh nooo! Is it sensitive all over? I’ve had a patch of really tender/sensitive Scalp and was sure I was going to shed loads a few days ago!

Hopefully just abit of thinning and that will be it  I don’t think any of us can prepare ourselves enough, sending lots of love xxxxx

Hey ,First one was horrendous, bad nausea and fatigue - just felt so rough for the 3 weeks ,2nd one was ok, - well a bit better than the first one ,though I lost about 80% of my hair in the shower with that one  even though I was expecting it at some stage , I don’t think anything prepares you for it , 3rd one I found the nausea really bad and they ended up putting me on more anti sickness

I’m bracing myself for the docetaxal, due to what I’ve read on here , but we are just gonna see how it goes with how the ec went x

The tingling in the scalp is apparently the hair follicles releasing themselves, think it was a nurse told me that

It’s strange how each cycle can be so different isn’t it! I’ve heard people say round 2 can be hard on hair, did you cold cap?

Hopefully docetaxel won’t be too bad for you, are you having 3 of those too? Xx

No we don’t have the facilities for that over here , they don’t do it and said about the length of time etc it takes

I was for 3 ec 3 docetaxal

Will do my best to get through the next ones , we can only do what we can

And I’m just going on what he says x

Yeah its pretty sensitive all over but mostly the back of my head. And it feels itchy all the time :sob:

I know there will be hairloss but when you cold cap you think please if I go through that let me keep some. It does worry me how sensitive my scalp is. I cant imagine brushing my hair right now if it was long! Ive done everything I can though, cut it short, cold cap. If I still lose most of it then there was probably nothing I could do

I couldn’t bring myself to cut mine , so it was long when it came out  think I was almost in denial in a way

I’m always really cold now :see_no_evil_monkey: x

You seem to be really knowledgeable about foods etc , I seem to be craving lots of different things

I still have treats/takeaway but in moderation

Any recommendations on fruit and veg ? Been doing oranges , berries , potatoes, mixed veg

Protein etc

Any ideas on smoothies ? X

If you struggle with nausea through this then you have to just eat what you can. If that’s bland food then so be it. I think the first real important thing to get enough of would be fibre to stop constipation.

If you have a blender, fruit smoothies are so easy to make and really easy to drink if you cant eat much. I have a ninja nutribullet that makes things very easy. I could put 1 small bananas, 1 kiwi (skin left on) frozen blueberries and mango. The prefect high fibre smoothie. You can add chai/ground flax seeds for more. Honey for some sweetness.

Also a handful of walnuts/almonds each day are great for fibre and protein. I eat these everyday sometimes with some dried cranberries or pitted dates/prunes.

The next thing after fibre to get enough of would be protein. Lean meats like chicken, turkey. Salmon (I had tinned salmon today with loads of vinegar, very old school) and lots and lots of anything green and colourful. Brocoli, green beans, cucumber, peppers, carrots. If you dont like eating vegetables cooked just wash them and chomp on them raw. You can dip them in a garlic dip or hummus. Anyway you can eat it then do that. You could even blend food up into soups if that makes it easier to eat.

I drink a protein shake called Huel black edition. They are pricey but they are easy to drink and full of protein.

I’m a real foodie at the moment haha. I’m determined to get through this with good food and lots of walking  time will tell how well it goes

Week 1 after chemo was mostly protein drinks, fruit smoothies and small dinners of meat and vegetables. I kept my portions very small. But week 2 I’m back to eating as much good stuff as I can
