Do you treat your thyroid at the same time? Are you taking synthetic thyroid hormone? If yes, was any close time relation between BC diagnosis and beginning of the thyroid treatment? In my case BC was diagnosed within 4 months after taking Letrox. I had Mirena 11 years.
I am so glad I have found this thread. I was pushed the merina coil by my previous GP for heavy periods. I actually wanted to be referred to a gynaecologist for further investigations but was told no and they would just give me the coil.
It expelled after 6 months and I was relieved as my womb had started becoming quite visibly big and inflamed, my periods never really got any better either.
I was sent for ultrasound as GP said it had expelled due to fibroids. It wasnât - I was told adenomyosis and again asked for a gynaecologist referral and told no again as they would just want me to try the coil again. So in it went and eventually expelled after 9 months of my period flow increasing to the point I couldnât leave my bathroom let alone my house on some days and losing huge clots.
I ended up moving out of the area and got a new GP. A month before it was scheduled to come out the second one expelled. My womb has never really recovered since. I did see a gynaecologist eventually (a male) who was more interested in giving me a third mirena coil despite my concerns over it now having caused my hyperplasia. There is also evidence of endometriosis and cysts (which I expected due to my history). He had zero empathy and drew on a piece of paper how to I should be having a period. Insulting to say the least.
2 weeks after my follow up with him (Dec 2025) I found a lump in my left breast. Mammograms were done and although the left was a cyst, they found cancer in my right breast which wasnât palpable.
This turned out to be hormonal PR and ER positive HER2 neg breast cancer. My strong belief is that in the short period of time I had the mirena coil in is that it almost certainly caused my cancer and further issues with my womb. Prior to this going in I was fit healthy, very active and in shape. The coil slowly took all of that and then cancer developed.
