Finally, managed the big event, what a relief (sorry about that). Lovely evening here or it looks like it. Actually had my dinner to tonight which was salmon with mash, carrot, brocoli and some cheese sauce. All very bland but that’s all I fancy at the moment. Love spicy food like curry and chilli but don’t know when I’ll ever have one. Perhaps I’ll be brave during my next good week in a couple of weeks time. Had a quiet day at home because of energy level but plan to get out tomorrow even if it is just for a short walk for some fresh air.
Megsmum - I don’t think my mother would have known what a Mexican or Brazilian is other that a nationality! Hope you had a laugh and gave her a hug!
Jackie - It doesn’t matter about personal messages so long as you come on and join in whenever you feel like it. It is hard to keep up with everyone and when they are having treatment etc. We all know that we are thinking of each other no matter what. Hope your Pic line has settled down and everything will be OK for Thursday. Glad you like your wig and that you have encouraging comments. I think I need to try wearing mine around the house to get used to it, or my scalp anyway.
Georgie - Will have to remember prunes before chemo because my husband always has these with his cerial for breakfast. They will probably do the trick - thanks.
Mary (Peanut) Hope you’ve had a good day with your daughters up there in Blackpool and that you managed to keep up.
For all those that I haven’t mentioned - If you’ve managed to get out and enjoy yourselves then well done. If you didn’t then there’s always tomorrow to look forward to and hopefully some good weather will help.
Everyone take care and best wishes - here’s to a good night sleep for all.
Sorry Shelly (Franoli) - Good news about your CT and bone scans and it sounds about par for the course day 8 when I looked back in my diary. Think my enery levels started to climb back after about day 10ish. Don’t be too hard on yourself, although that’s easier said than done.
Hi to everyone hope you all have had a good day. Finding get very tired about 7.00 in the evening struggle to keep my eyes open. Hubby not moaning he gets to watch what he wants on tv instead of corrie etc love them.
Evening Ladies, hope you’ve all had a reasonable day.
Day 3 post chemo today and have a bit more energy and less nausea.
Is it normal to gain weight when having chemo. I have gained about 3 or 4 pounds in the last few days despite eating really healthily.
Evening all,
Back from a rather cold break away, learnt my lesson not doing that again soon. Feel worse coming back than I did going! Little boy had fun though which is the main thing. Last injection tonight which means I have six nights break before they start again, oh I’ll be so pleased not to have to do those by the end of it. Now I have four days free before the whole cycle starts again, never seems quite long enough, clearly a fortnight is just about long enough to recover for the next cycle but not to actually feel much better. Nearly halfway though than change drugs.
Hello to all the newcomers that have joined us in the last week. I haven’t really had chance to catch up on all the posts but I noticed someone with a young daughter talking about hairloss. I’ve had a lot of discussions and worries with my son on this topic (he’s four) so if you want to talk about it some more then do message me. Mine’s all gone now and he’s handling it very well (to the point of telling me not to wear the wig which i only bought because he wanted me to still have my hair!) and so I’m relieved and pleased at that.
Sleep well everyone
Hi Jane xx we went the other way…lol Chester and we got our piccy taken in Debenham’s …the buggy caused quite a ‘stir’ and my little doggy friend ‘posed’ for it rather well!
Night xx
Dulcie
Dulcie… Think I’m going to get a buggy for the Bengals…they’d love it lolol
Perstering Pixie…Big Hi to you. It is true that the thought of the chemo is worse than the actual. For me it was so much better than the op I was absolutely petrified of having an anaesthetic as I’d never been in hospital or had one in my life, but that was ok in the end too. xxx
BerylS…Hope you’re feeling better. I too want a curry or a chilli but I intend to make a thai chicken curry this week which will be a bit milder for me…so will let you know how it goes xx
Wolsty…The wig looks fab xxx I’d just realised I’d een emailing the wrong address to get the appointment for mine grrrrr!!! Chemo brain.
Megsmum…Hmmmm a Mexican eh??? Lmao!!!
Franoli…Good news about your scans xxx
Bettie… I lost a few punds in the few days after chemo but have put it back on now…thinks its all the beans :)))))
Fitter…I deifinately ahve more energy in the mornings and afternoons, I’m usually in bed by 8-8.30 and sleep well till 6ishxxx
Patchit…Hope you’re ok and managed to get away for the weekendx
Ceej… would love the details of the dye please if I have anything left to dye lololol
Hugs to everyone else xxx
Easter Sunday…the OH is off on a walk for his son’s 3oth birthday. Wish I was going too but it’s an all dayer and I don’t thnk I’d mamange but I might meet them for a drink at half time but the weather is very misty and damp at the minute. Got a lovely roast to look forward to later…lamb and I fancy new potatoes and mint sauce with it.
morning all
Very dull here in Blackpool today, town very busy which is good and our new trams are up and running apart from slight glitch with sand on tracks!! Why that one didnt come up before dont know!!Prom - beach- sand Hmm! let me see, yes there will be sand on the tracks!!
PPixie - Welcome fears subside fairly quickly once you start as you learn what to expect for future sessions.
GeorgieB - Talking about dogs knowing owners ill, when I went to my daughters before I was diagnosed her little daschund used to jump on my knee and sniff constantly at my left side where it turned out tumour was, I was always moving her off saying what a nuisance she was as she never used to do that. Weird isnt it!!
Jackie7698 - Dont worry about remembering everything people say as there are so many of us, just keep posting, I have to make notes about who and what to remember!!
Dulcie - Love the doogie buggy, told my daughter and she wants one for her 2 daschunds particularly as the male one is so lazy we have to drag him out on a walk and end up carrying him home!!
Wolsty - great wig, going for mine next week although hair very much intact at the moment but only had first session so not holding out too much hope with cold cap.
Shelley - Sorry to hear you are so down, have to say you are pretty normal as I have my moments also, its all very well people saying be strong but not easy so you do what you have to.
Beryl - good to hear you sorted, Im still a little the other way so have taken one more dose of Imodium and will see how that goes.
Bettie - I lost 6LBs after first cheom but appetite back with a vengence so more then likely all back on again but I am not going to worry till all treatments finish.
Fitter - I am up very early in the morning about 6am then I go back to bed about 8am for a couple of hours and find that helps me to get through to about 9.30 in the evening.
Wintersocks - Hope Edinburgh ok!!
No plans for today as daughter meeting with her in laws, could join them but the F-I-L is hard work at the best of times so going to catch up on some TV and read the 2nd book of the ‘Hunger Games’ trilogy.
Best wishes to everyone I havent mentioned as thinking of you all.
Mary P xxxxxxxxxx
Good night sleep (sleeping tab) and up 6.20. Head feeling much cleaer today and stomach behaving itself, thank goodness. Supposed to be a brighter day today here on the east coast so will be going out to get some fresh air and a nice walk along the sea front.
Sounds like everyone who’s posted had a reasonable to good day yesterday and let’s hope it continues.
Normally I find that I drop a few pounds because of appetite during the first few days of chemo but we are taking steroids as well for a few days which won’t help the weight sitution. Mind you I’m not sure if everyone takes steroids pre-post chemo. I know with my first they gave me steroids in with my drip/meds. When I went back post chemo check-up (prior to 2nd session) my weight was about the same. That was probably a miracle because my appetite did pick up but vitually no exercise as such.
Parsnip - Sorry to hear that you had a cold break away but at least you managed one and that’s saying something. I will be glad when I finally give myself the last injection. They are such a pain but my blood tests were good after last lot so it helps to spur me on. How many do you have to give yourself? For me it’s 8 but I’m on a 3 week cycle for chemo, having 4 sessions in all. Keep telling myself that I’m half way through. Third session is due 24 April, fingers crossed etc., that nothing gets delayed. Pleased to hear that your little boy is dealing/handling your hair loss really well and it must help you to get through it to.
I will say bye for now and go and get cleaned up. Will message later.
Happy Easter to everyone. Very dull here but dry so thats good.
Going out for lunch today so really looking forward to that. Just pleased it has fallen right as chemo left me with vile taste in the mouth and all drinks and food just tasted awful. Lasted for over a week but gone now so will be able to enjoy lunch today. Think i must be lucky though as some poor folk seem to have it all the time.
berylS That sounds like a good idea might try that.
peanut1955. Not so bad getting up early when we have nice days quite like that
Morning ladies
Happy Easter to all.
Feel much better this morning, and constipation has gone!!!
Got an invite to go to my sister in laws family for afternoon tea so will look forward to that as taste buds improving.
I tend to eat less just after chemo despite steriods, but during 2nd week appetite picks up.
I to find I get tired early evening and tend to go to bed at around 9.00.
Have a lovely day
Jane
Good morning ladies and Happy Easter. I am in awe with some of you and the way you respond to each individual post! How do you do it?
I am day 9 post chemo and still have such a sore tongue, headache and indigestion. Is the indigestion a side effect of chemo? I’ve read so much stuff but haven’t retained it all by any means. Any thoughts? I don’t have a temperature.
I’ve got my wig catalogue and assumed I would see someone when I go for chemo so I could order one. Is that what normally happens?
I am blaming all this lack of knowledge on chemo fog but my family laugh when I say this and say I’ve always been like this!
This afternoon I intend to snooze on the sofa. No Easter eggs for me but we’ll just have a quiet day and relax.
Hope you all have a lovely Easter Sunday, whatever you are doing.
Afternoon ladies xx
Hi KittyQueen i know someone that takes her ‘Ragdoll’ cats around in enclosed pram! So go for it!

Just had to have clumps of hair cut out! It must have been the dry shampoo but some of my hair like melted together and OH had to cut it out - I now have a very strange hair style! Good job I’d already booked in on Thursday to go bit shorter still !
If I cried about this what am I going to be like?? Ha ha
Happy chocolate eating xxxx
Dulcie when i saw the onc 1st time i was a wreck and just cried, couldnt beleive i was needing chemo :-(. I managed to briefly discus regime but that was it. We then went to chemo unit and met staff who showed us round and took bloods etc.
2 nd time i was more composed and managed to talk about Se,s and survival rates etc. he added meds for sore mouth and chatted. I,m sure each place will differ but dont worry if you cant remember everything i came away with written info and contact no.s for chemo unit x
Good luck xx
Hi Dulcie - I took a friend with me to oncologist and she made notes for me. The doc gave me survival rates and regime for chemo and told me it was up to me whether to have chemo or not! With the survival rates he gave me I opted for the chemo to which he said yes that is what I would advise! Would have been useful if he said that to begin with!I didnt get to see the chemo unit till I went for first session but nurse took good hour to talk me through everything and again I took my friend. dont be frightened to say hang on a min I dont understand this or that. They gave me helpline no to ring to ask questions when I got home if I didnt want to wait till next appt. Good luck, thinking of you.
Shelley - I got a voucher in the post for £90 with a list of places I could go to. the voucher only covers synthetic wig but I can put it towards human hair wig. It may be different in your area.
Ceej - Enjoy your choclate, I am just going to bite the head of my choc bunny!! So enjoy xx
Best wishes everyone
Mary P xx
Didn’t go out for a walk because it started pouring with rain and it’s cold outside.
In answer to some earlier questions - Mostly agree with what Mary (Peanut) has said other than my Onch said he would talk stats but tended to find that this was all patients focused on and not the treatment. I didn’t want to talk stats either and just tried to take everything in that was said. Onch’ examined my surgery scar to make sure healing OK and lymp area etc. Hubby took notes and when we finally finished he then handed me over to one of the chemo nurses who went through the precedure with me filled in questionaire and showed me around the chemo suite. Nothing was rushed and don’t you let them rush you. It’s your time and you have probably had to wait for someone else to do the same.
They gave me a wig brochure and I could have see the lady at the hospital when she goes there. Chemo nurse recomm’ that I phone the co. up and make an appointment for a one to one. I did that and travelled over to the town to see them. Quite a selection to chose from and I didn’t have to pay for it. Frankie, my wig, cost £160 because of the one to one but all I had to do was sign a form. My appointment was for an hour and I purchased some other bits whilst I was there. The company I went to was called Hair World (wigs4u) and they are based at Wisbech, Cambs. They said if I was still undergoing treatment and suffering hair loss in 6 months time then I would be able to get another wig free.
Ceej - If you lose your hair then you will cry and I think it’s safe to say that we all have and will. Now that mine has been taken down to a no.1, and I’ve said this before, I can focus on something else. It takes some getting used to but seeing it fall out was far worse for me. Haven’t been out yet and I don’t have to go to work either so don’t have that hurdle to go over. Please try not to fret too much about it because it’s something we have no control over.
Well have had a lovely sunday lunch out feeling very tired now.
So pleased i have booked hairdresser for Wed hair just getting all over the place its horrible. when i have a shower all over the face hate it.
Ceej you poor thing wonder why the dry shampoo would do that.
Will be 2nd lot of chemo on Wed go tomorrow for blood tests etc. Not seen my onc yet do you know if i will see him tomorrow do you normally see them before chemo. Have had bone scans and ct scans etc and had all the results but not seen the actual onc. Just reading most people do seem to have seen them. Must say all the people i have met have been fantastic. Treatment etc at Warwick hospital have been so good
