Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi again thank you for the input…but does she sit at a desk to start with…with her paper work …or do you go into an examination room…
Plus i haven’t had any surgery yet…so i’m not sure if she would push me toward surgery…or my prognosis…which ain’t good…my age…part of it…

Hi Dulcie

My Onch (male) he sat at his desk. Before second session I saw his Registrar and he sat at his desk. Both times they have an examination couch/bed in their appointment room. Becuause I’ve already had WLE and lymp biopsy they examined me and listened to my chest etc and the Registrar asked me how I’d been after first session and s/e’s to see if they needed to change anything. In my case the meds had worked. Hopefully, will be the same this time around.

Bye for now.

Beryl XX

Thank you Beryl xx i got this thing about desks…maybe its my age…it just feels more proffesional like to me! Than somebody swinging their legs whilst sitting on a bed…
I hope you are ok Beryl…i didnt read threads again…
.
I should have gone to a ‘collectors fair’ they are on most Sundays…we get in for FREE by the time we get there…its all packing up! mostly rubbish any way…the dog enjoys it too!
We meet one very elderly lady who has a regular stall…she was a beauty queen in about…1940’ish…she showed us some of her pics…in her bathing costume…what a cracker she was!
So off out later for a carvery…i haven’t had a Sunday dinner for along time!

Bye for now.
Dulcie xx

Hi Dulcie,

When I saw the oncologist and the consultant surgeon, they both sat at desks with my chair beside their desks so it wasn’t so formal, if you see what I mean. Both times they allowed my daughter and husband to come in with me and encouraged them to ask questions. My daughter took notes as we knew we wouldn’t remember anything. They allowed us plenty of time and were very friendly and helpful. The consultant surgeon squeezed my knee at the end of our talk (it was a lady!) and they all shook hands. They didn’t rush us at all and I didn’t feel there was any question which would have been too stupid. Both times there was an examination area with a curtain in each room so they could look at my breast.

My breast care nurse was there both times and I was given contact details for them. We didn’t get shown round the unit that day but went to have a look when I was there for another appointment and again, the staff at the chemo suite could not have been more helpful or pleasant and fitted us in right away. There should be a pre-treatment assessment, apparently, but they got my chemo underway before they had time to do this so you may be offered a chance to go and look around anyway.

Apart from the consultant surgeon I saw initially, I have found everyone to be very human and warm. They have answered questions and I haven’t felt like they were holding anything back. I’m having chemo before surgery and radiotherapy so clearly there is no point in me asking lots of questions about reconstruction now but I am confident there will be time to do that when the time comes. They haven’t rushed me over anything and my oncologist returned a call I made to him last week asking for test results within about an hour and didn’t delegate it to someone I didn’t know. They also refer to themselves by their first names which makes asking questions a bit easier, I think.

Evening ladies.

Had my second dose Thursday and must say its seeming to be alot better this time round.
Im not tearful this time, it took me the best part of 2 weeks after the first dose to go a day without. I have a chilly neck though lol.

Both my clinical and surgeon oncologists are fantastic. after my operation in February the results didn’t come back great. Personally i didn’t want to know my odds. at the age of 29 with a baby and a 7 year old i wasn’t interested. however i did ask what they would do if they were honestly in my position. the reply i got once once chemotherapy has finished they would opt for both breast to be taken off with full lymph clearance which is what im going for.

It took 2 weeks from that meeting to see the clinical oncologist. again a very lovely person, i repeated myself again in saying i wasn’t interested in odds although he did seem pretty desperate to splutter something out so he said chemotherapy has a 50% chance of working which i guess really is what my odds are. We spoke about med after chemotherapy, the cancer doesn’t respond to hormones but he’s going to give them to me anyway just incase there is a 1% chance they will work.

I’ve always asked for them both to be straight and honest with me and believe that they have been. we’ve also had laughs together which is good.

Sending love and cuddles to you all.
Happy Easter x x x

Evening All,

Dulcie… both the consultant surgeon and oncologist I have seen had desks and chairs beside them. I’m a stick my head in the sand when it comes to odds. I only know my lump was 9mm grade 3and they both kept telling me it was a tiny cancer but is HER2+ hence I have to have 4xfec 4x tax start herceptin at beginning of tax…then 19 rads and herceptin for a year…I did manage to stutter ‘how long’…at one point and both said ‘potentially curable’ but I dunno…but will focus on that anyway.
Reet off to look at prams for cats :)))))))))))))))))))))

Have agood evening everyone xxx

Hello everyone!

Just back from E’burgh, what a fab city. I was very impressed. some beautiful flats near where we stayed. Couldn’t resist staring when lights were on. All very tasteful.

Hello to:

Mollie43, My, what a tough time you are having, You have been quite poorly. I do hope you are feeling a little better and able to get out of hospital soon. Do you think it is unlikely they will be able to go ahead with your next chemo? so soon after this.

GeorgieB, Yes I was wondering whether we look like chemo ladies with our scarves and I expect we do. I wore mine the other day, as a practice as hair is coming out now and I felt very chemoie. Well, so what if people stare?

Beryl: I had a ver tasty curry in E’burgh, you don’t fancy it. I really do. It’s funny isn’t it? a bit like being pregnant.

Kittyqueen: love a roast too, did you have to cook it? surely you didn’t have to wash up?

Franoli: I had very bad heartburn/indigestion too. My GP gave me something beginning with L. She said I could double the dose if i wanted to and I did. and it really did the trick. Let me know if you want the name. I think other ladies have it too.

Megsmum: When I saw the oncologist, i cried none-stop. She asked to examine me, and said no! I just felt too distraught, because of all the scans an stuff I had had for 2 weeks, I will have to apologise when I see her next.I think they understand our reactions,

Amylou: I do hope you have enough people to help with your little ones when you need it?

Please, I have a question. My scalp is really tender. and the hair is falling out, I am in 2 minds whether to shave it tonight whilst I am at my partners. But am concerned the clippers on it will be really sore?

Also, what can I do with my massive appetite?

I am having 2nd chemo on Fri coming over. Is there a massive difference in se? mine have been fairly minimal, and I am hoping to expect the same. Do you think that is overly optimistic?

Thank-you all

Ws

Evening marvellous Marchies!

Sorry I have not posted for a couple of days. I have tried to keep up with you all on my mobile, but couldnt face posting on that!

Firstly, thank you for all the lovely comments you left for me after my problems with my son. I really appreciate your caring kind posts. In the end, we decided to still go ahead with our weekend in Derby. Had a lovely time, but I am really tired now! We just locked the house up and left Friday lunchtime. My son was released from the police station on Friday morning. He came back to the house but couldnt get in, so somehow he talked his girlfriend and her mum into letting him stay there till we got back today! We had lots of texts over the weekend and picked him up this afternoon when we got home. He is now on a ‘final warning’ from us to change his ways or move out. Time will tell!

Socks, I found my 2nd treat easier to cope with than the first but that was probabaly because I am not having the injections any more. Glad you enjoyed Edinburgh! We went a couple of years ago and I would definately go again. Yes, I think the scarves and hats do give us a certain ‘look’, but it doesnt really bother me personally.

Mollie43, hope you are doing better again now and get home soon.

Dulcie, will be thinking of you on Tuesday and I hope they have a treatment plan worked out for you.

I had a prescription for my wig, but had to pay just over £60. I am in Hertforshire and know not all places are the same.

Sorry I can’t respond personally to everyone, 3 days worth of posts would be too much for my brain!

Have a good night ladies, and good luck for your treat tomorrow Jane (think its you, but cant scroll back that far and post at the same time!!).

Sweet dreams
Joan xx

Good evening lovely ladies, I havent been able to keep up with all your posts as I was invited away to sunny Wales by my bro and sister in law on the last minute on friday! It came just at the right time, the ‘hair problem’ was going into overdrive and falling out at such a rate I wasnt coping. It was everywhere, all over my clothes, all over the floor, all over the car, literally everywhere. Mt scalp was very very sore and irritated and by the time I woke up on Saturday morning in their caravan I had clumps of matted hair all over the pillow, and dangling from my head! My lovely sister in law came with me to a local hairdresser and she shaved my hair very closely. It wasnt actually as traumatic as I expected as I was so much more comfortable without it, and I managed a fetching scarf arrangement for my first outing into town. Cant tell you how much I am glad that that episode is over and my lovely family saw me through it. I dont think anything now can be as huge a chasm to cross, and its only upwards now!

I will catch up on all your posts soon, and wish you all lots of good sleep, no stress, no SE’s and definately NO hair problems!!

love Gabby

Hi March marvels
Can anyone advise ? My head is sooo sore/tender today im day 12 from first fec my hair seems to be thinning im losing strands every time I touch it, this seems quick as a lot of ladies dont seem to be losing theirs until 2nd fec or just after, did you find once you had taken the plunge and shaved it off your heads were less tender/sore, dont know wether to try and hold onto it for as long as poss or bite the bullett and have it shaved

Hugs Janice x

Hi Janice

My hair was coming out around day 18-19 after my first FEC and I had no 1 done then. It was much better after it was gone, my scalp was not as tender and I felt better not shedding hair all over the place!

Hope that helps!
Joan x

Evening ladies,
Had a lovely afternoon eating cake and choccie eggs.
To weary to reply to individual posts.
Glad that those that went away had a lovely time.
Lottie my hair was coming out big time and scalp was sore before 2nd chemo so got hubby to shave it off,it was such a relief once over the shock as scalp now more comfy and I massage it with Aloe vera 99%gel. I now wear scarves and hats all the time even indoors as head gets a little chilly!!!
Night All
Jane

Evening ladies

Socks, glad you had a nice weekend. I had a massive appetite too for the first couple of weeks after FEC1 but it settled back to normal week three, I haven’t even had any chocolate today, just didn’t fancy it. My hair started falling out day 14 and by day 16 was really tender, my husband shaved it on day 18 (Friday), and I now have a lot of bald patches x

Joan, hope the stress of the last few days has calmed down and that your son realises he’s on his own if he messes up again, glad you managed some time away x

Gabby, I had my hair shaved on Friday too and bawled all evening but glad it’s done now as I don’t have to fear it anymore.

Went out for tea last night and wore my wig, was itchy and hot at first but settled down after about half an hour and felt ok. Done the easter egg hunt this morning and then my husband went to Mallory Park to watch the bike racing, me and Tabitha went out for lunch to my aunts, decided not to wear my wig (otherwise known as David Hasslehoff or The Hoff for short!), she took a good look at me in my hat and it was almost like she was sizing me up, but she didn’t say anything. My cousin and her husband didn’t mention it either but just after we’d finished dinner my daughter got all excited and tried to pull my hat off, thank goodness I managed to stop her, I just don’t want anyone seeing me with no hair, later on she tried saying again “mummy, show them your really short hair”, my aunt had a bit of a heart to heart with her at that point. Then tonight when I got out of the bath she walked in the bathroom, laughed and said I looked like a man, well that was it, I was bawling again, she sloped downstairs to daddy to tell him mummy was crying - again. Later when she went to bed she put her arms around me and said “sorry I said you look like a man”, she’s only 4, she shouldn’t have to deal with this stress and so far i’ve managed to hide it from her but the hair loss changes everything.

Lady garden is hanging on and i’ve had to shave my legs, was starting to resemble a gibbon!

Love to all

lydia x

lottie mine started on monday ( day 12) and by this friday (day 16) it was uncontrolably dropping everywhere and my head was so sore. It all happened very quickly I think, but I am so glad now its gone and over! and i NEVER thought id say that!

Thanks ladies,
I will give it a few days and see how it goes but scalp is so tender at mo cant imagine putting a shaver near it :frowning: once it starts moulting at an alarming rate it will have to go

Take care all

Janice x

Lottie, i wd say to get it clippered rather than shaving it.
Lydia, really feel 4 u and yr daughter. Big hug hon, sure she is just copin in her own way. Children are very resiliant and see things in a very factual way. Xx

Evening ladies

Had a lovely day with daughter today, son working so couldn’t make it. Lovely roast dinner then a chocolate Jaffa cake cheesecake desert courtesy of Sunday Brunch tv programme.

Shame the weather is poor, doesn’t look like it’ll improve tomorrow either.

Regarding indigestion I contacted doctor( luckily mine work 12 hours 7 days a week) I asked for the Lanzaprone but she’s given me something slightly milder, as she said that one can be very powerful. Also managed to get sone Difflam for the mouth, I like this dealing with doctors by phone rather than waiting in stuffy infected waiting rooms.

Glad to hear some of you had good weekends away, and se for rest aren’t too bad. Weird with hair mine now looks like it’s growing, but I’ll see what happens this week after dose 3.

Hoping you all have a restful night, last night I had weird dreams, but as sone of you know from experiences that’s happening quite a lot these days. In fact I woke up about 3 times last night imagining people leaning over me, and cried out woke up OH who then promptly turned round and in panic threw his arms out which clobbered me right in the head leaving a Mark and bruise on my forehead. Oh dear poor man felt so guilty thus morning.

Hope all enjoy another Bank Holiday tomorrow.

Love to all

Morning ladies,
Wet and horrid here in Norfolk, so won’t be venturing far today, will send hubby to supermarket later- he’ll love that!!
Will ask a question, last night the area under my mastectomy scar felt a little tight, on checking it resembled something like the Michellin man, it wasn’t hot and red , I didn’t have a temp but slight swelling went down to base of ribs, is this due to chemo? , it’s back to normal this morning, but will keep an eye on it, anyone else had similar?
Jane

Morning ladies,
Well finally home after 5 days in hospital.I had an infection in my bloodstream not nice at all, antibiotics via iv four times a day and another lot twice a day in my picc, 2 injections in my tummy each night as well.

The oncology ward i was on were fantastic the staff brilliant couldn’t have asked for more.I am supposed to be having my second session thursday but not sure if this will happen see the oncologist wedensday.

Iwould say to anyone if you feel even slightlty unwell take your temp and if it’s 38c or more take action, i left mine 12 hours and it had really taken hold strongly, so don’t be brave just contact someone however silly you feel.
Hope everyone is enjoying easter and not eating to many eggs debbie xx
