Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Rae, how brilliant for you, I am really pleased! One less worry, enjoy your celebration!

Amy lou, big hugs for you and I hope you are feling better soon. Those bloody injections cause more problems than the chemo for some people! This cancer lark is such a rollercoaster. I feel like I am just coming out of a really emotional week and think some of it was my hormones. I didn’t have a period when I should have done and that has just added to the stress of everything else. Be kind to your self, you will come out the other end soon. xxx

Dulcie, it would be great for us all to meet up when all this is over for everyone. I think Biggleswade might be a bit small and quiet for our big group!!! It would certainly be something to look forward to and I guess would fall in July / August. Am I right to think that you will be the last of the March ladies to start and finish chemo? Help with costs seems to vary as to where you have your treatment, some areas are more generous than others!!

Carolyn, the buff I brought was from buffwear.com and there is a video instruction on there to show you many ways to wear it. I got one which blocks UV rays as I will be bald for the summer. They dont really add height to your head, but you can always put a band round them. They are very comfy though and I have been out in mine. I think you can also buy them in outdoorsy type shops and you can get cheper alternatives. Glad you are feeling better today. Your blood is really behaving itself, considering you sdont have the dreaded injections!! What was your WBC out of interest yesterday? Mine was 3, which I thought was low but they were happy to go ahead.

Better go and do some tidying up!
Joan xxx

Whoo hoo Rae, brilliant news!

Twinky, i too am watching Bargain Hunt, whilst pretending to be working! Tuna & mayo sandwich for me though.

Sorry some ladies are having a tough time with SE’s and blood counts, I have no idea what mine were like but obviously ok as chemo went ahead.

Socks, Hope things are going ok for you today and you’ve been able to go ahead with treatment.

Joan, we all have our meltdowns and people do their best but sometimes you just need to do it and there’s no specific reason - apart from all of it.

Had no sleep on Wednesday night after chemo but did manage a bit last night so feel much better for that. My daughter has a cold and a sore throat and my husband’s panicking about it as she slept in our bed last night and he thinks that’s too big a risk, but we all live together, can hardly be avoided can it. When I took my sleep cap off this morning she told me i looked like an alien - not sure if that’s an improvement on looking like a man or not!

I’ll catch up with all the posts later, love the idea of a meet up somewhere later, what a lovely thing to look forward to.

Take care all

Love Lydia x

P.S Appointment has just turned up for LGFB, 24th April, well chuffed!

P.P.S my aunt came round yesterday whilst I was wearing my wig and she didn’t even notice until I pointed it out to her, she said she forgot I’d got not hair and it looked just like my own - result!

Hi Ladies

Hope everyone is feeling tip top  I’m definitely less sick this time around - although my vein does feel very bruised down my arm today ! When to the gym and got a new plan to keep my strength up - ended up doing a step class which I haven’t done for more years than I care to remember - there was a woman there who looked in her 70’s and she really showed me up! Lol
Oh well it was good fun
Beryl - yeah my Bcn said that tingling in fingers and numbness was a s/e of tax - so when I said on like carpel tunnel she said exactly! I had it so bad earlier last year that my thumb and first two fingers were numb and painful - I couldn’t sleep and I was constantly rubbing them - it’s horrible and I don’t want those feelings again  I may be more prone to it now I’ve had the surgery I don’t know x as it affects the nerves !
I must admit it was quite nice not having to dry my hair today and everyone at the gym thought it was great ! Taking. Racquel to my partners for the weekend tho in case he takes me out for a nice meal or something - tho I’m not particularly hungry - when I get with him I wanna eat ,
Raechi- I Know how that feels ! They didn’t even tell me the results until I called them! It’s scary thinking the worst - hurrah x

Amylou - my cat hasn’t left me alone since I was diagnosed! She normally sleeps with my daughter but she now either cries to get on my bed or pushes the door til she gets in - driving me nuts !
Franoli - hugs to you x
Lost the plot now - yes I am a young grandma at 48 - he is now 9 months old and of course living with me and my daughter who will be 20 in June. It was not planned and I was not happy bunny - but she was adamant and she has always wanted children and now works as a nursery nurse - just got a part time job so she can do her NVQ level 3 - she tried for uni to be a mid wife but tho she got lots of interviews it’s just too competitive - seems it was for the best tho and sometimes life takes turns that you don’t expect but happen for a reason.
I do find it tiring having him here but it keeps me on my toes and he is a lovely smiley child x

If I don’t post again - have a lovely weekend everyone - the sun is shining here in Cov and I’m having my nails repainted in half hour - pampering me  xx

And why am I sideways??? Doh !

Hi

Thanks for that Joan, I’ll check now. Sorry no idea what White blood count was didn’t ask, but nurse said all ok, sister in law said she saw a figure of 5 or 6 but no idea, I’ll make sure I ask next time.

Fab news Rae, you must definitely celebrate and try to join us for celebration coffee, although I know it’s early I’m the last one and appointment should be 9 30 so fingers crossed we get seen in time.

Glad alls well Twinky, same here also eating some juicy red grapes which my niece thought were delicious as from m&s and kept raiding them yesterday. I get through packets of grapes love em.

Agree with you Lydia we have to try to live a normal a life as possible, and with small children colds and sore throats are par for the course. My OH keeps migrating to spare room when he has so called symptoms of man flu, but I don’t mind gives me the super king bed all to myself. Lucky you that’s close for your LGFB, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, think I probably won’t get mine until the end of May.

Know what you mean about hair Ceej it’s joy not to have to wash and style hair such a time saver. the sideways angle gives an interesting look, I’m useless at techno stuff hence I can’t manage to get a picture from phone to computer to profile here. I’ll have to ask my daughter how to do it.

Love and hugs to all sounds as if everyone is doing well.

Back in from town and checking messages before a lie down, feeling a bit pooped.

RACHIE - FANTASTIC NEWS I’M/WE ARE SO PLEASED. YOU GO AND HAVE A WELL EARNT CELEBRATION!

Will catch up later with everyone. Time for a snooze.

Bye for now.

Hi All,

Thought I’d catch up with posts and been sitting here for hours - Still in my PJs ! Arm getting better and Day 10 from Fec2, all is well.

Amylou / Wolsty - I know what you mean about relying on parents and the hurt etc. My poor mum should of been having her knee replacement operation and had to cancel it to be there for me and I worry sick about her health and the stress she’s under. I couldn’t cope without her though and that worries me as well as if “it” ever came back and she wasn’t around I’d be lost ;-(

Ceej / PATCHIT - Re “BOYS”, I’ve always believed that they have 7 year cycles. Age 7 my son changed overnight, then when he hit “teenage” at 13 I waited and nothing happened - still lovely and talked. But literally on his 14th birthday he became a teenager, “grunts” and all, now I’ve adjusted to this quieter lazier boy and am waiting for him to be reborn at age 21 ! I’ve been told it happens  so you don’t have long to wait.

Waitingtoo / Patchit / Wolsty / Carolyn - Congrats on No 3 !! Think how far you have come now

Pargayan / Jackie / Wintersocks / GeorgieB / Chascat / Ceej - Congrats on No2 sessions. Hope you all have minor SEs and the Emend works for those that have it. Loving all the short hair pics !

Pargayan - Sorry to hear about your Hubby, but was is a TIA?

Kittyqueen / Bettie - Congrats and getting your lovely new wigs.

Jackie / Caren - I also found after FEC2 that I had a HUGE appetite AFTER finishing Steroids. Even though I felt so sick I still wanted to stuff food in my mouth even though it was pretty tasteless. I put back on weight I’d lost with FEC1. Normal again now. No issues with toenails yet though.

Smilesnic - One day, One Hour, One Moment at a Time - couldn’t of said it better myself

Mollie43 - No wonder you weren’t feeling ready for next session. Glad you have antibiotics and it’s been delayed.

Franoli - Sorry to hear your Bloods so low you couldn’t have portacath op. Hope the rash improves. I’m also self employed and broke so each mortgage payment is a huge obstacle at moment.

Ali68 - Welcome aboard and sorry to hear you had such bad reactions to TAX. Are you able to say what actually happened as I am paranoid I am going to have same issues as I was allergic to the WBC injections they give you and TAX has a higher rate of allergic reactions that the injections had ;-( Did your unit help with the reactions.

BERYIS - No I am still having to have FEC100 and then 3 TAX, all without the injections, but I am seeing the ONC next time to change Anti Sick so hope he doesn’t suggest any other injections !

What a LOVELY message from your daughter - it made me cry and you both look so lovely in the picture.

PARSNIP - Sorry to hear about your cystitis. Probably too much info for this site but I’ve also had problems with the “Bits below” and am covering myself in baby bum cream - which is helping.

I didn’t know about Adjuvant site and have spent hours on it now but if I am doing it right then I have reasons to be cheerful - which has been a huge relief. Sorry you aren’t getting similar results BUT in 5 years time (after Tamoxifen) there could well be another drug or research that completely changes those figures - so stay positive, keep well and perhaps try alternatives after all this - like eating 8 “Bitter” Apricot Kernels a day. I have done that from day I was diagnosed !. They have had fantastic press and can’t do any harm.

Raechi - YAY ! Scans clear, excellent news. Now you can focus on getting through chemo.

Dulcie - I am so sorry they found nodules but if they haven’t said cancer then stay positive. Do they do more tests to check or wait to see if still there after chemo ?

Jayjay40 - Welcome aboard and sorry to hear about your terrible SE’s. That was a large tumor but now it’s gone and this awful chemo is to kill any tiny little strays and reduce risk of ever having to go through this again. I’ve just had 2nd FEC so will be on similar time scale to you.

Love and Virtual Hugs to all. Going to get dressed now (almost not worth it) and make a chicken casserole as chicken boasts WBC apparently and I have a pack of red grapes I might stick in the juicer as well. Anything to avoid infections.

Angie xx

so pleased for ur news Rachei!

I didnt post yesterday was totally wiped out with 2nd FEC, and this morning too but now feel i am picking up this afternoon.

I have a very sore arm right up to the elbow joint where the chemo went in and it did hurt more as it was put in, has anyone else had this? Does it last long?

Emend has kept sickness at bay so far, but I have to say this seond lot has been harsher with me than the first was. Hope that after weekend all will be well again.

MY head is cold!!

love to you all, sorry I cant be personal with messages, fuzzy headed

Yes Gabbylamb - sore vein here too after Fec2 on wed! Feeling bruised but otherwise there must be something wrong with me as I feel better this time than with the first dose hmmmm!
Xx

Just a quick one as feeling poop again. just found a site to look up exactly what each of our chemotherapies actually does. really interesting. ones made from mustard gas another is from yew tree bark! I’ll put web page on shortly found it interesting to see what each one does x x

Gabby, have you tried ibuprofen gel on your arm? Also a warm compress might help (hottlie bottlie wrapped round you r arm, but make sure its not too hot!).

Angelhearts, good to hear from you again. Pj’s sound great! I also was taken off the injections due to my reaction, but they reduced my chemo to FEC75 and wouldnt give me the FEC100 without the injections. Your blood count must have recovered by itself for them to give you your second dose. That’s great! I will be the same as you over the SE’s for the TAX. I will need to speak to my onc about it before my TAX next time. I think they might have reduced the amount for the TAX as well as the FEc though as I have to have 4 TAX to compensate for the reduced dose I am now on. (Just how many TAX and FEC can you get into one sentence?!) Whats the adjuvant site?

I have had some great news re my son today, well potentially great and I am tryiong REALLY HARD not to get my hopes up too much. He has a viewing of a flat on Tuesday! Gooodness! I would hang the flags out and run down the street naked if he got it! Don’t I sound awful! Sorry, he has just been such hard work and an awful lot to cope with. We want him to leave home really, but would much prefer it if he did it in a way we could still support him and keep an eye on him.

Enjoy your casserole!

Joan xx

lol Patchit. I can understand how you feel re: son, thankfully mine seems to have gone through her worst faze! But dont run round naked, its sooooooooo cold! wait til the better weather and wear a Lady Godiva wig!

Thank you all for your info re sore arm

Thank you Gabby! Glad your son is better for you now. I know they do grow up eventually! Well, hope anywaY!!

Perhaps we should do a sons post! Ours is difficult as well. Still seems to think the world revolves round him. Even now is always on the cadge for money. I rang the hospital re the breathlessness who told me to go to the dr who checked me out and said it may be panic but since it happened day 3 and 4 last time it’s probably a side effect. Oh well hope it gets better over the weekend. My poor husband panicked and came home from work - but it’s reassuring to have him here.
Hope we all have a good nights sleep - mine was rubbish last night! Love Georgie xxxx

mines a daughter! I dont think they are any easier Georgie

Hi Everyone
Well saw Oncologist today for review and explained about awful nausea and he has perscribed Emend for next session so am really pleased, also picked up my free parking pass.
Dulcie- I got a voucher for £90 for wig and can add to it as that will only cover cost of acrylic one and would prefer human hair one. apart form that and parking permit no other financial help.Hope you manage to speak to someone about your ailments and effect from chemo. I have an underactive Thyroid and take medication,no SEs from that at least from 1st session.
Rae- delighted to hear your good news about scan and when I meet up with my young colleague will tell her about your kind offer.
Beryl- Pleased to see you had a good day.
mollie- sorry to hear your chemo delayed, that is my fearalso but at least you know they are been careful.
Bettie- i had a couple of days where i felt breathless but appears to have gone onw, hope you feel better.
Patchit- Great to hear your son will be getting his own place, fingers crossed for him and you!
Got to have bloods done Tues for 2nd on Weds so hopefully ok as feeling really well.
sorry dont respond to everyone as so many of us now but thinking of everyone.
Best wishes
Mary xxx

Thank you so much ladies for the good wishes. I tell you the support on here is truly awesome. Even in my darkest moods i can come on here and someone always lends and ear and says the right thing.

I want to thank you ALL so much…i dont think i could do this without you.

I’m back to Norfolk / Suffolk this weekend - we are looking for a holiday cottage to buy. Somewhere nice for me to escape to

Big hugs to all, and if i am not back on have a fab weekend.

Rae
x

Raechi- Well that is such good news, and a great relief to you. Think it may be a bit wet and chilly here in Norfolk this weekend, are you looking for a cottage by the sea or inland?
Gabbylamb- my arm was more sore this time after 2nd FEC lasted for about 3 days then settled, wasn’t sure if this was because chemo went in in 1 hour, which was quicker than last time, also had a large bruise under thumb where cannula went in!!
Amylou- hope your flu like sympyoms have settled and you are starting to feel better. Mustard gas and yew tree bark unusual ingredients!!!
Patchit- hopefully all will go well with you son viewing the flat on Tues, a bit chilly to streak naked though I think.
Peanut - at least you have the meds sorted for your next visit.
GeorgieB - I looked in my book and breathlessness can definitely be a SE of FEC.
Had a visit forom my god daughter who is 21 she looked through selection of my hats and scarves and thought they were “COOL” so I take that as a compliment!!!
Love Jane
