May 2017 chemo starters

Forgot to say I tried Provitamil Oat Drink this morning. Used it to made porridge, tasted lovely. Will have to try it on other cereal and in coffee. :coffee:

RECOMMENDATION… for all ladies, who suffer with sore mouth/tongue following treatment - I’ve just discovered (in my freezer and forgot all about it … stupid chemo brain) - Mango Sorbet from Tesco (other brands are probably available!) - I had it this evening after my curry but I do so, so wish I’d remembered it was there last week - it would have worked a treat!

Wolfee - I had a nightmare in the very first letter I received from the breast surgeon on diagnosis - he’d put left breast in the heading - I quickly got that rectified!  On my recent re-visit to him to discuss surgery - I clearly made sure he knew which one it was - but he reassured me they check, double check and triple check on the day of the op - but if you get it wrong - there’s not a lot of come back!  For goodness sake ladies - let’s all make sure we get it correct!

My lump is on the left side and I’m left handed. Is this just co-incidence?

I was referred to surgeon in July to discuss surgery and have heard nothing. Spoke to BCN last week and she said that I should have heard by now and would chase and get back to me but she hasn’t. She said it was because so many people have been off on holiday!!

Have had a lovely weekend, daughter’s birthday today and had meal out with family who then all came back to me for tea and cake. I enjoyed every mouthful as tongue/tastebuds has completely recovered. The worst thing now is knowing that I’ve still got to have more chemo.

Appt with oncologist and bloods tomorrow so keeping everything crossed I’m  not sure I can eat any more papaya and pomegranate.

Mai -  I can’t believe how insensitive some people are! Out walking this morning I bumped into someone I hadn’t seen for a while and ended up explaining I had bc she then  proceeded to tell me about her friend who had bc and got her 10 year all clear and then 3 weeks later found it had come back and she now has secondaries! Oh thanks for that, it’s cheered me up no end!!! Why would you tell that story to someone who’s just told you they have bc.

Thanks for the supplement advice, I will have to look into this. I hope to get back to running eventually, am currently walking my old running routes.

Jay - thanks for the sorbet tip, will have to get some in. Hope you enjoyed the curry, had a curry last week and just couldn’t taste it and tongue was so sore I gave up trying to eat it. Hubby kept telling me how nice it was!

treehouse - when’s your next blood test?

I have had lemon sorbet throughout chemo and ice lollies also work but not for long.

Re surgery. In the morning the surgeon marks up your boob when you are 100% awake. You go to have the radioactive marker put in to the boob being removed and the technician checks against your notes which one it is. Then they check on Day case that you are correctly marked up. The when you arrive in theatre on the trolley before they put the cannula in, the surgeon meets you in the anaesthetic room and asks you to open your gown to double check the markings are there. So you have at least 4 opportunities to make sure they have the correct boob.

BTW I put my gown on back to front, was so used to having to have it open at the front for ultra sound, mammo, Mri. You actually put it on so it does up at the back but don’t do it up as they take it off you when you are asleep.

Asda have 4 for 4 pounds offer on Provitamil Oat drink 1 litre. Can’t say I can tell exactly how it tastes as tastes buds are a bit iffy.  Just had it in coffee tonight as well and it is ok.

Then the lady working sticking the shelf said 2 me oh are you having chemo I said yes I’m looking at what takes my fancy sorry I’ve been standing here so long she said that’s fine my friend was the same she ended up eating dark chocolate with peanut butter on it but didnt do her any good she died she was about your age she has breast cancer what cancer do u have!!!

Lyposomal VIT c is absorbed better to boost immune system.

Good luck wolfee, go and ring that bell!!!

Good luck everyone else this week. Hope all bloods are back up and ready to go for everyone else.

Xx

Some people are really insensitive and a bit naive about cancer. We didn’t ask to have it, we just got it. What we have to remember is that everybody’s cancer is different. There isn’t “one shoe fits all” type of tumour and treatment. We have all learned so much about breast cancer since we were diagnosed and we are making changes to our life styles. Everyone seems to want to tell us about someone who had it and how bad it was. They never remember the people who had it, survived and lived a long life. It is always doom and gloom and it shouldn’t be that way!

Good luck everyone on treatment this week and gentle hugs to those with side effects or just feeling a little low!

So I had a little rant on Facebook after hearing people’s ’ experience with thoughtless comment and this was my mothers response ???(remember she is cancer warrior extraudinair)
"I know it’s difficult for people, who have not known anyone close battling cancer, to say something sensible. Whether it’s ignorance or embarrassment I don’t know, but most kind people say something positive. But there are those who do not think before they speak they just open their mouth and let the **bleep** fly. To those I repeat my beautiful daughters words “shut the f…k up” ?
Sorry about our language but I love  my mum . She is the positive story I hang on to every day. She has battled and won 4 times. I asked if she is still worried and she said sometimes but I can do it again!!!
What a woman!!!
So proud of her.

Go treehouse mum! Well said x

Lotas biscoff :heart:A dam good biscuit a personal fav of mine also.

Treehouse I’m loving your mum, her attitude and her language xxxx (4 times gosh now if anyone has the right 2 comment than it’s her) xxx

And she always has a packet of those biscuits ( we call them granny biscuits in this house)
I don’t see her story as negative or scary.
At 74 she is a success story and had tamoxifen 30 years ago.
Life goes on and she is showing me how to do it with style.
