May 2024 chemo starters

Much better thank you. Virtually back to normal physically, (mentally I’m an absolute minefield but thats a whole different story!)
I would look out for the steroid crash about 36 - 48 hours after your last dose, try and get some support or plan a few films so you can chill, once I got through that, as long as i eat regularly, everything was better xx

Glad you’re feeling better @tori123 hope the sun is shining where you are and you can enjoy it. Good tip about the steroids, will look out for that!

The mental/emotional side of all this is just as hard isn’t it? Every day is another challenge. I can’t imagine how hard it is for all of you with young children, just to keep going.

@shahz4169 will be thinking of you on Monday, hope all goes well. I’m currently drinking like a fish in preparation for my first EC at 1.30pm! xx

Well the nausea I was dreading seems to have stayed away so that’s a win! I absolutely expected to feel or be sick, but it was a lovely sunny day yesterday and I drank 3 litres before I went to the unit - I think that was the key.

Woke up suddenly in the night and checked my temperature because I was a bit sweaty - it was 35.6. So I called the emergency response line who looked at my records and asked me to redo it in 30 mins - it is now back to 36. Low, but it’s been 36 since I left hospital so that is a good sign. Bit of a panic!

Other than that, just feel heavy headed and a bit slow. Let’s see what tomorrow brings but I’m hoping for the best xx

Glad you got on ok. I was the same, sweaty and temp a bit low. No nausea. I was tired for a few days and had a nap in the arvo. I feel 100% now, a week on. I definitely didn’t drink enough but will fix that for round 2! Xx

I’m glad you didn’t suffer too much. I hope it’s the same for me x

Thank you :two_hearts: today is what I expected - feel like I’m dragging myself around, and really don’t want to eat or drink but I know it’s important.

The dogs are a bit confused why they are not my first priority today! but the sun’s out so they are in the garden.

Do feel a bit nauseous but it’s manageable.
Good to know it doesn’t last xx

Hi @specialk2 hope you’re feeling okay after your first EC. It’s all a bit of a whirlwind whilst things get started!

I’m 4 days in now and feeling almost normal again apart from a lot slower/more chilled! but I’m taking that as a good thing.

The weather this week has really helped to keep my spirits up and the dogs still need walking so they get me out and about. I’ve taken a chunk of sick leave whilst I get to grips with what the side effects means and when I can work, got a few appointments this week and I think I need to get my PICC line adjusted because it’s making me cough, they said it might be a little long and irritating things.

Hope everyone is doing okay - I’m feeling more confident with everything now one cycle is done! Look after yourselves xx

Hi @hopefulheart @beth1 day7 today and starting to feel kinda normal again not so fuzzy, but still getting really tired if I do to much, so just chilling with a jigsaw puzzle :joy:.
Had picc flushed & dressing changed yesterday so that is all good :+1:

Has anyone else cold capped? I didn’t find it to bad after the first 10 minutes, hopefully it works, but have a contingency plan in place, my wig should arrive this week, and looking at scarves
Take care everyone xx

Good luck for the 16th @rosa1 , the first one wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be , drink plenty of fluid’s, let us know how you get on xx

Hi @specialk2, glad you’re starting to feel normal again, I was the same about day 7.

I’m cold capping, I’ve got 3 cheapish wigs just incase, although I only like one of them, a couple of scarves and a cap. I really hope it works. The chemo nurse was optimistic for me but I’m trying to manage my expectations and mentally preparing for the shedding which I think will start next week.

Are you doing anything else to try and save your hair? I’m trying to reduce how often I wash it but failing miserably!

Thank you @specialk2 hope it goes ok too. I try and drink water but as soon as I have a small glass I need the toilet. How much did you drink before the chemo?

Love a jigsaw!
I’m not cold capping and the odd little chunk of strands has come out today - day 12. I’m going to shave it off when it escalates.
Glad you’re feeling kinda normal! Xx

@tori123 My hair was shoulder length but had it chopped into a short layered bob a week before treatment which has been a god send, as have managed to wash it just twice a week so far which is amazing for me normally it would be every day …
I’ve also bought a silk pillowcase, and a silk head cap to sleep in to minimise any friction, it actually quite nice. xx

Oooh might look for a silk cap, bit late for a chop i think (don’t want to waste my money if it all falls out a week later!)

I didn’t think about getting a hair net for sleeping in but maybe I should get one too.

Where did you get the silk hair cap from?
