May chemo starter

Hello, I’m a long time lurker and a first time poster. I’m starting my first chemo session on Friday. I’m having a PICC inserted in the morning and my treatment starts in the afternoon. I’ve read some comments on the forum which have been reassuring but I’m I’m worried about the side effects and the impact it will have on my body. People around me have been lovely and supportive but it’s the times that I’m alone that I overthink It. I’m trying to be positive and take it in my stride but it’s proving difficult. I’m going for a visit to the Cancer Centre where I’ll be having my treatment today, I’m hoping that will reassure me a little.

Hi. I was very worried about the side effects too especially when you read the list of possible effects. I thought I’d be in bed vomitting but it wasn’t as bad as what I thought. I’ve still been able to do a few things. Each person is different so just take it easy following your first session. And then see how it goes. Good luck.

Be kind to yourself and take it one day at a time. The road is not easy but is possible.

Good luck

As others have mentioned, it affects people differently. Remember to take your anti-sickness tablets, just do whatever the nurses recommend. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Having a Picc-Line is the best way too. It is a long journey, but you’ll get there. Keep telling yourself there is a light at the end of the tunnel !! Sending you best wishes.

Thank you everyone for your replies and kind words. I’ve had a look round the cancer centre this afternoon and seen where my treatment will happen and met some of the nurses. Onwards and upwards :muscle:t4:

I am going for my second chemo on Friday. A fortnight ago I had the first and was terrified, especially when I researched the side effects. Happily my sole side effect was tiredness and a lack of energy. This disappeared after about 4 days. Maybe it was the anti nausea meds or maybe it was because I’m a tough old bird. Go with the flow, be positive and look after yourself.

Hello, my chemo has been postponed until next week as my gynae consultant had concerns about the lining of my womb. I had a coil fitted yesterday which will hopefully help. It’s all a bit stressful especially as I geared myself up for yesterday’s chemo session. All being well I’ll start next week. Thanks to everyone that commented and offered advice and reassurance, it is very much appreciated.

Hello, following some setbacks finally had my PICC line inserted on Friday (a wonderful local charity called Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer left me a “Hug In A Bag” before my treatment started and it was such a nice surprise - thanks to them) The line took about 40 minutes to place & then I had my first chemo session. It took about 1 1/2 hours, I was having EC treatment. All went well. I’ve felt tired and nauseous and have taken anti sickness tablets which seem to be making a difference.
Im just taking it day by day.

I’m not sure if this is related, It was very sunny here yesterday and I got sun burnt!! I’m South Asian and it’s the first time ever in my 55 years? I’ve got my hat and sunscreen on today & that seemed to have helped.
